  • This video is a COMPLETELY UNBIASED REVIEW of the 2022 ‪@ForestRiverInc‬ R-Pod 190 travel trailer. This floor plan has a large rear U-shaped dinette and a front bed with a dry bath. We loved the space in the large dinette, the large windows providing so much natural light with the light decor choices and the dry bath is always a hit. We didn't like that you couldn't access the bathroom and bed with the slide in and it was a little light on cargo carrying capacity.
    The R-Pod 190 is a great little travel trailer for the RV Sometimer. A full-timer could easily make it work. A snowbird would probably find it too small and a weekender/vacationer would love it. It is best suited to a couple or solo traveller with room for occasional guests. It could be used by a family but we think other R-pods have better family floor plans.

    I always enjoy your videos and this one in particular as I own a 2018 RPod 190.
    Things I like about the new version over my 2018:
    New design front window (for light and air circulation); larger rear window, dinette table legs (more leg room), brighter interior colour, big round sink, exterior spray port, factory battery cut off (although its location is susceptible to road spray - especially when off road), square side windows (vs trapezoid shaped in previous models), shelf above bed, water return feature in shower, and mirrored pantry door)
    Things I prefer about my model:
    Smaller 3-way fridge allows for microwave to be atop the fridge which then yields 2 drawers below stove; solid exterior door (won't show the dirt as much).
    Overall the trailer has been great. It's definitely not big but we love features like the dry bath (which we use for storage between showers), separation between bed / dinette for when one of us sleeps in / stays up late or if we have the occasional friend needing a bed, ease of towing (we have a Tacoma), decent storage space, black tank flush, and small footprint.
    It would be nice to have a slightly higher cargo carrying capacity (robust axle) and there are a few small items of cheap materials used, but overall it has been great. We mostly dry camp at provincial sites and have 2x 6V batteries that keep us going for days with solar to extend trips, and the rare times we are at a full hook up site we have enjoyed using the bigger TV, the air conditioner, and switching hot water and fridge to electricity for a change.

      It is so great to hear you are loving your R-pod. We love hearing from owners. Your experience is so valuable. We hear you that nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement (like the axle) which would change the CCC too. We also agree with you about the 6V batteries they are so helpful and we have been doing really well with them in provincial parks on Penelope. Hope you are planning for the 2022 season. Let us know where you plan to go. Thanks for watching

      Interesting that you say so. We were advised not too long ago that we should change it. We really felt unsure about that as we think folks identify us with that music so we decided to keep it. We think it is kind of fun and suits us, so thanks for the feedback and everything else you do for us.

    We had a R-pod 180 a few years ago. Spent 30 straight days in it with 2 little dogs, which was fun. However I grew to hate the bed. Making it is a bear. Only 1 side has a place for c-pap or water. If you could have the option of switching out recliners with trays, for older campers. Eating large should be reserved for outside. We traded it for a Mallard M260 with a King bed.

    R pod msrp too high for what you get. Actually seriously considering one when we bought but then went with another Forest River trailer that was basically the same cost but way bigger. Thanks for your informative video...love the Canadian perspective.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  2 роки тому +2

      Glad you liked it and fair enough it does have a higher price tag but depending on what you chose that was bigger and the same price we are guessing there was probably some give and take on construction. Generally to go bigger you are going much heavier meaning a different tow vehicle and so on. Not a bad thing if that suits your wants, needs and priorities. For many folks they are trying to stay under a certain weight. Sounds like you are happy with your choice which is fantastic but using a larger tow vehicle is an added cost as well. It's all about getting the right RV for you. Thanks for watching

    I've mentioned the "Cracker Barrel factor" in some FB posts and people get all defiant and insist they can put out their slides anywhere, whenever, they want.
    These trailers are great for getting into the National Parks!!

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  2 роки тому +5

      You can put out your slide anywhere with the click of a button, the question is SHOULD YOU? Is it the kind and respectful thing to do for the business or the people around you. We would say No it's not. A parking space at a business is not big enough for that and contrary to many folks opinions their actions are not all about them. What's wrong with taking into consideration how one's actions will affect others. Ok that's our rant on that topic now, on to better things, yes you are right these would be fantastic to fit easily into a National Park with everything you need. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for hanging out with us.

      @@DoesSizeMatter In this particular unit, the wheel and fender extend outside of the body, so I wonder if a person might take a little advantage of that fact by extending the slide out only to the outer point of the fender, perhaps for quick access in a parking lot. But I've never dealt with an RV with a slide-out, so I'm not particularly familiar with the etiquette. And, it may very well be that that limited extension might not allow for a access to the bathroom, anyway.

      I would not want to have to undo the locking bars on my slide at every rest stop. Love the 190 floorplan but no access to the fridge or toilet with the slide in would be a definite deal breaker for me.

    Good Honest details. My general comment will be how the Cargo Capacity for most if these trailers are so low? I do realize to get a better CCC it will cost money but to me it will be change comparing the high Dollar value of a Trailer now a days.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  2 роки тому +1

      We hear you. Cargo Carrying Capacity is very important and you will find that most single axle chassis do have less especially depending on the size of the house that is on it. If you are looking for high CCC you will need to plan for a double axle and a larger tow vehicle. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching

    Thank you for the tour of the R pod. I did not see the control panels because they are placed too high on the wall. the stove should have hood vent and electric above burners not a good plan.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  Рік тому

      You will notice in many smaller trailers of this price point there may not be a hood vent and although it may not be ideal the electric outlet above the burners is high and passes safety requirements. Tiny kitchens like this are difficult to fit all of the things into but if your wants, needs and priorities allow you to go with a bigger kitchen in a more expensive RV you will find these features differently. Hope that helps

    You showed everything! Well done. However this unit is made with the cheapest and lightest material that would completely fall apart in no time. I watched a video where the people got rid of it in 6 months. I have a Toyota 4Runner that can’t tow heavy trailers so I studied this one but unfortunately it would be a mistake. Back to higher quality unit’s that cost more money but still towable. Re: NuCamp and a couple others. 😎

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  2 роки тому +2

      Glad you liked the review. Although we can't agree with you that R-pod is using the cheapest materials as they do use Azdel which is a huge upgrade to traditional luan (which is still the industry standard). Yes they do use light weight aluminum framing and lamination which is how all manufactures are building their light weight trailers. One video expressing some negative opinions, although important to hear, we have found in our research is not enough to express a general trend in comparison to the many more happy owners so we never include a few opinions but look for far more reaching consistent trends that show bigger manufacturing issues. There are always pros and cons when choosing an RV and we find that people often have regrets when they had not clearly defined what their wants needs and priorities are before making their purchase. To compare the R-pod and Nucamp directly would be a mistake as they are very different trailers offering different things at different price points. When buying an RV what seems like the better purchase to you is based on what your specific wants needs and priorities are but your's may not be the same as someone else's so maybe the nucamp is better for you, and that's fantastic cause we think it is a cool trailer for what it has to offer as well, but the R-pod could be an equally fantastic purchase choice for someone else. So to make a blanket statement to all that the R-pod is a poor choice when only coming from your perspective really is a disservice to other buyers. Hope you understand what we are saying and we truly hope your love your tab choice cause we agree they are cool too. Thanks for watching

      @@DoesSizeMatter what a great articulate response to my comment. 🤙 as in your video you’re a most professional salesperson and know how to overcome objections with good points. The exterior material of the RPod is good stuff for sure. The price point is the same @$40k for both the R Pod and NuCamp from what I’ve checked.
      Now for me there won’t be a TT because my 4Runner just won’t pull anything that would be comfortable including the two aforementioned units. So I’ll be looking at other RV’s (class C) to purchase and make my home. No doubt those will have quality issues as well but it is what it is.
      Finally I would like to say that you made some valid points to my comment and I totally agree with your response and maybe shouldn’t even have made such a comment. Thanks for your reply and I with you all the best. 😎

      Depending on your specific wants, needs and priorities a 12V fridge may be necessary but certainly isn't for everyone. A good solar system would be needed for that too and as with all RVs, none come with a standard good solar system so no matter what you choose you will probably need to upgrade the solar some. Good luck finding the right one for you, hopefully some of our other videos can help you with that.

    I read about some of these lightweight campers... one lost the floor and water tank 60 miles into the first trip, fell out and was dragging. Another model lost the roof on the first trip. It peeled off going down the road. Both by forest river. The courts should streamline the method to sue if you get a unit built like that!
