- Gamer Tech Support: Does your XBOX have no audio on TV, and the options to adjust the HDMI audio are grayed out? I will tell you how to fix it in this video.
I looked for several days digging for an answer that actually worked before I found this obscure setting in the Xbox menu that could turn off your audio.

If you did this step, and you now have it set to HDMI, and it's not grayed out, then it's time for basic troubleshooting.
First, reboot the Xbox. Sometimes the software needs rebooted for this change to take effect.
Make sure the TV isn't muted, and the sound is turned up a little.
Make sure you are not in a party as party chat audio can do funny things.
Check audio setting on Xbox, and be sure that it's set to play sound out of the TV and not your headset. Also, check chat mixer, as it can turn audio off to hear voice.
Once you're sure it's not a setting stopping sound, it's time to check the cables. Move the HDMI cable that is coming from your Xbox into a different HDMI port on the TV, and change TV inputs to see if that fixes it.
Try using a different HDMI cable from another device, as sometimes they go bad, and on rare weird occasions I've had an HDMI cable stop working with my Xbox, but work just fine on other devices.
Finally, if you have made sure it's not a setting, have swapped cables and can confirm the TV does play sound on another device, but your still not getting sound from the Xbox, it's time to use the ultimate Tech Tool: Factory Reset. I've had a couple of occasions this was the only solution. Go into setting and choose the Factory reset. Be sure to choose to keep all saved game files, and let the xbox reset itself.
If you've done every one of these steps, and still have no audio, then I'm sad to say it sounds like the HDMI port on your Xbox is bad, and there is nothing that can be done on a basic level.
Let me know how it goes, as I'm always interested in people's tech journys.
I cannot express how thankful I am for this video. I was googling and going trough settings for an hour and a half, then found this video and it fixed my problem in less than a minute.
You're welcome gamer. I'm glad I could help. 👍
That's always the way same thing just happened to me
DUDE!!!! THANK YOU SO FREAKING MUCH!!! Been trying to find a way to fix this forever!
Your welcome man. Glad I could help.
If it plays fine out of the TV without a headset, and it's only playing audio out of one side, chances are your headset could have a bad speaker on one side.
Are you able to use your headset on another console to test it? Xbox doesn't have a Left and Right Balance. We'll at least the Xbox one doesn't.
It is all grayed out when I put my mic in my party chat on audio settings
Check your setting for Audio. There are options that turn off TV audio when you connect a headset. You have to adjust your chat mixer settings to allow game sounds to the TV when a headset is connected.
First video I’ve seen where someone actually tells you how to fix something straight away, thank you!!!
Thanks, I tried to make it as concise as possible, and saved the story for the end.
My husband and I have been trying to figure out for MONTHS why our audio on the Xbox in the living room wasn’t working. We were so close to taking it in to a repair shop and then I seen your video! Thank you. When I tell you, you helped us fix the problem in a matter of 5 second I’m serious!!! I was so shocked!! Slightly irritated that it was so simple but definitely grateful. Thank you!!!
I am a retired I.T. guy, and issues like this normally take me a few minutes to solve. This particular problem I spent over 3 months looking for a solution, as I had gotten a used Xbox for my living room that the audio worked until I did a factory reset. I wasn't even aware the Xbox could designate what audio output it used like that.
Found this fix buried on some forum, and it didn't fix the issue for someone, but it was the fix for mine. I figured it's something very easy to check, and it should be one of the first things you look for, so I made this video and have been helping hundreds of people.
I'm so glad this video was able to solve your issue, Thank you for leaving a comment and letting me know.
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!! I had no clue how to fix my son's X Box when the sound all of a sudden stopped working after a trip to his dad's house. You are seriously a lifesaver!
Glad I could help.
Man thank you so much for this. For some reason I couldn't find the fix for this anywhere else and you're the first person I find that actually addresses this issue.
It took me 3 months of searching on the internet to find this. It's such an easy fix, and shouldn't be buried in settings. That is exactly why I made this. I'm very glad you were able to fix your issue with this video.
Thank you so much!!!! I got my Xbox hdmi port a replacement and no sound has been working since then. Can’t believe the last 3 months could have been fixed from a simple settings change. You earned a subscriber bro
Thanks Omg. It took me 3 months to find this fix buried on a thread. It so easy to do not sure why it isn't covered more. Glad I could help you, and thank for the sub. I hope you enjoy my other videos.
Omg!!! You have no idea how long we have been struggling to fix this! Thank you so much for your video!! It’s fixed!!!
Glad I could Help
10 videos later, thank you so much man for actually showing and explaining how to fix the issue, literally thought something was genuinely wrong with the Xbox
You're welcome, I'm glad I could help
Dude you are the BEST!!! I was losing my mind trying to figure this out and you’re the only one that was able to fix the issue. THANK YOU!!!!
You're welcome. I'm glad I could help
I been trying to fix this for hrs !! No video on UA-cam helped until this one !! Thank you man!!
You're welcome. Glad I could be of help.
Very helpful. I searched all over UA-cam and no one covered the actual fix that was what I needed.
Thank you so much! I connected my XSS to an HDMI-ARC connection on my TV and it set the console to DVI output mode. Doing this fixed the issue and now my kids are enjoying their Christmas gift!
Andy, this is a special treat for me. I'm always happy to hear that one of my tech tips helped someone fix there issue, but to save someone's Christmas? That is truely a gift.
I haven't been in the Christmas Spirit this year, especially since I don't get to see my kids. Knowing I saved Christmas for someone else has lifted my spirits, and brought some much needed joy to my heart today.
You are very welcome, and thank you for giving me something Special today.
Buddy.... you are a life saver. Thank you so much for making this video. I just bought my nephew his first xbox and it was driving me mental that we couldn't get the sound to work. God bless you sir!
It took me 3 months to find this buried on some back page in Microsoft support. It's such an easy fix that I had to make this video.
I'm glad it was able to help you out. I've had people at Christmas say I saved their kids Christmas, and I've had people say I've saved Birthdays. It really makes my day when I hear I was able to help someone.
Thank you for leaving a comment. 👍
Thank you friend you were a massive help. Got the wee lads xbox fixed with your help and he is so happy.

I haven’t listened to sound on my Xbox through my tv in 6 years and this is the first time hearing it. Thank you so much
That's right, I am your gaming savior, curing your gaming deafness with a few button presses. All worship. . . Lol, J/k
Wow 6 years? That seems like a miracle to get cleared up. I know it took me 3-4 months of searching, and finally finding the solution on some random web comment.
So glad I could restore your sound. Good luck gamer. 👍
I have had this problem for 3 years and could never find the cure. Thank you so much!!!
Gamer, I feel you. My best friend gave me his Xbox one to replace my dead one, and it worked fine at his house. I connected it, and it worked great, but when I factory reset it, it did this. I spent months driving myself crazy looking for a solution, and I found this buried down some dead thread, and thought this is really simple, why isn't this a suggestion other places.
So glad I could help you get this finally resolved.
Thank you, I've wasted hours of my life watching people go through everything BUT THIS, this video was a life saver for me
You're welcome.
Thanks so much I literally spent 2 hours looking for a fix and you were the only one with the answer
You're welcome, glad I could help. Happy gaming.
Very helpful, thank you! No idea how that setting was enabled. All sorted now
This enabled on mine after I factory reset a used console. Made no sense.

i found out my audio wasnt working at 9 AM. and tried everything until lunchtime and gave up, it wasnt funny at the time, but i tried again from 1:30 PM to 2:30PM and found this video....
as you can guess, it worked. I never laughed so hard at myself man, i dont even know why its funny. THANK YOU though.
Glad I could help. I'm still not sure why this happened to me after a system restore. You would think that would default all setting to working order. Some good did come ofnit though, as I am able to help others with this video.
@@ChrisUnlimitedGames i find youtube has answers to a lot of things more then google. Plus, you get a visual look at things instead of reading how to do something, which works better for me.
But everything aside, i thank you so much for this video, it showed me the most basic way to fix this problem. I know i dont need to, but i cant say enough on how much this helped man.
This is a real life saver, deserves a like and subscribe
Thanks, I always try to make decent content, and help other gamers when I can.
@@ChrisUnlimitedGames keep up the good work
Hey Chris, I tried that along with other methods and I have changed the hdmi cord twice, but for some reason it's still not working. it displays on my TV, But no sound. Sound works on my headphones, but not on my TV.
Have you tried using a different HDMI port on the TV itself?
Other idea right off head is to make sure the audio is set to output to the TV and not just to headset on the Xbox.
Thank you bro I really appreciated this video you saved me you can have my kids next credit card and ruin it I have been using this Xbox for over 2 months with no sounds and finally you saved me
I'm glad I could help, and that you have sound again. Please don't ruin your credit history for me. Tips are greatly appreciated though. 😆
