I was a mechanic at a Chevrolet dealer's garage during the time this car came out. All of us in the shop got to check in new cars and prep them for sell. The IROC's paid more because there was more to getting them ready. At 7:29 minutes the man talking says he doesn't know why the passenger side doesn't have plastic on it. The drivers side has plastic on it to protect it from getting dirt or grease on the interior panel between the factory and the dealer. The passenger side didn't require any plastic. I got to check in a 1987 Buick GNX also. The best part was taking those cars for a test drive to make sure everything was working as it should.

That's every car enthusiast's dream. This is the first case I've come across where the vehicle still has the factory wrapper, writtings, price tag, etc. This trailer find is just amazing, my question is, how did it end up in the trailer and so as the plymouth?
A friend of mine bought one just like this in 1984. I remember going to the dealership with him to pick it up. It was also a 5 speed. It was a great car. But he could never beat me in my 1975 Hurst Trans Am :) What a great find. Thanks
Imagine a Camaro selling loaded for that price today. Dealers couldn't keep them on the lot long enough lol. And that's the problem today's cars are far from reach for the average worker.
Honestly if I'd of owned it I would have cleaned it up and got it back mint and then drove it every single day thereafter.I hate guys who buy cars for their low miles just so they can stare at them all day everyday.Cars are meant to be driven,I understand how you would feel quilty putting miles on a car with so little on it but I'd feel even more quilty for not letting it soak up those miles like it was intended to do.
Alvaro Lopez don't get me wrong I understand the mindset these people have but its just not something I could do personally. For me a car is meant to be driven, that tachometer was put in that car to go up and not sit still. I purchased a Toyota Chaser from Japan awhile back with only 34,000km on the clock. So many people were telling me not to drive it because of the low miles and its unbelievable clean condition.I just laughed and said"care and attention is all this car needs to remain flawless and that's exactly what I'll give it" Well it just clicked over to 250,000km's the other day and it still runs perfect and looks better than it ever did before!People tend to forget that a mint car can always be a mint car if only you are willing to keep it that way, keeping a car mint doesn't require parking it in a heated garage all day and never driving it. There's nothing sadder to me than seeing a car not driven.
You all are wrong! A "barn - find" in this condition is far more VALUABLE, than a same make / model / year car restored! Like, 2 -3 TIMES MORE valuable.
Robert Schreiber pipe the fuck down will ya,we're not talking about value here we're talking about how it's a shame to not drive a car simply because it has low miles.A car is meant to be driven it's that simple,if you want something pretty to look at then buy a fucking painting.

@David Mc I know that blue is definitely big on road runners and S Birds, it may have been available on the GTX too, but it definitely has the roadrunner trunk stripe
Great in the snow, hung out with some guys that always showed up when it snowed. We had a huge parking lot to play in, and the cops didn't care! I had a second gen, but the IROC was just a crazy donut and drift car in snow!
Well now wait a second, if this car has been untouched and it's still in pristine, ''new'' condition... Why does it not have factory wheels? Something seems fishy. I come from a big Chevrolet family, I had some of my kin take a look, and they all agree. We know a lot about Chevrolet and reading the comments you do as well. It makes me proud seeing so many fellow Chevrolet brothers and sisters on UA-cam. My grandfather owned Novas, my dad owned these, and of course me being the new, younger generation took a liking to... the Corvette. I love Corvette's so much I even made a song about one. Could you please take a listen and help a young kid out? If you liked the song come back and like this comment so everyone knows it was worth the short listen!
here is your answer! " My buddy Jason at Katech turned me on to this incredible find. A brand new 1985 Camaro IROC was purchased right off the delivery truck from the factory and put into storage for 24 years. The wheels were to be swapped with with aftermarket but the owner never got around to it. Ah... If I didn't already have 2 vettes, a supercharged SS Silverado, a chopper and my restored '89..."
Jeff Hanshew the original wheels was sold to help start the build. The car was bought with the sole purpose of making a streetrod www.thirdgen.org type in the search 4.3 mile iroc
do you know why? because the guy who bought it he bought it for to get the rims and leave the car there he didnt want the car he wanted the rims he switched them with those :P
How is the finder of this Z not acting like a fan-man ("fan girl"). This automobile is absolutely a beautiful find. Still wrapped, 4 miles! Hot dam I would have been ecstatic ear to ear smile. I would keep it as is and that would be my ride or die babe. Till the end. Awesome find to whomever found this.
If you notice the car was very low in the back of a trailer so I'm quite sure all 4 tires were flat so they replaced them with 4 tires so they can move the vehicle out the truck.
@@Scott-px6mi How is anyone going to fit in there to remove and replace the wheels? There's no room. They drug it out with a winch, anyhow. They could do that even if it had flat tires.
Wow, all the hateful comments and downing of this amazing find. For those who claim 'a modern Kia could outrun it', I have to be one old enough to remember when these were the 'style', and I hate to break it to you kids, but one of the first things many did was pull that 275-hp 305 and drop in 400+ 'replacements' with a Borg-Warner T10. These cars were low 15's stock, the 5-speeds could get into the high 14's, and I don't know a Kia yet that can do this for $16k and with a clean-up 30 years later, turn $27k at a Meccam's Auction with a minimal clean-up investment. FYI, the 64-1/2 Mustangs were almost all 6-cylinder 'economy' cars, too - they were (and are) STILL an investment. Go play with your 'good-for-one-year' iPhone version whatever.
a borg warner 4 speed huh, i love you jackoffs that talk about cars after you read a few magazines, where did you get that trans, and very few used the 400 because it was junk, i should stay away from these comments, i know 8 yr old kids that know more than most of the morons wannabes
Dude the Kia Optima does the 1/4 mile in 14.9 The cadenza does it in 14.1 The fucking forte does it on 15.4! The Sedona freaking van does it in 15.5 And the Kia stinger does ot in 13.2. You sir have to he rather embaressed.
1st time i EVER heard one of that gen open the door and it NOT squeak & not rattle when the door shut bc of the weight of the door opening and closing. The inside is the best I've ever seen inside one of them except when it was replaced. Awesome gem!!
I had exact same one in collage white and gold with gold wheels .. Loved that car favorite thing was there was a light bulb in the engine bay you unscrew it and it had 5 feet of extra wire so you can use it anywhere on that engine
@victorgonzalez97 my guess is a rich guy with a lot of property didn't want wifey to know, the car didn't get delivered due to a mistake in bill of laden or thieves
@victorgonzalez97 okay! My stepdad had ordered an Iroc in 88. But when he came from overseas they didn't have the blinds on the back window he ordered. Wound up with a Cougar. It was okay. The Iroc, he'd probably STILL have. My Monte is like the one in the Str8 outta Compton movie. Thanks for the kind words.
Wrong! Chevy shipped these with steelies because customers had the option to choose a la carte wheel options that the dealer would install before handing it over to customer.
Ronin_69 Those rims and tires were put on before storing. There’s zero chance those wheels came on that car from the factory. No sense letting the car sit on the original rubber.
I've always been curious - how do you sell something from a "barn find?" Is the barn property yours? If not, how do you claim it? What if the original owner is dead?
if you buy the property say from a deceased estate and it has a shed/barn on it and the seller (relatives/bank/government) do not clear out what is in there, its legally yours since it is considered "abandoned property". If its something with traceable tags like a car, probably best run the vin through to the police to make sure its not stolen before you try and sell it.
depending on the state if a car sits on your land for long enough u can file for a title registered owner then has like 90 days to remove it or its yours
MultiMe1990 okay, so what happens if it's NOT on your land? for example, there's an abandoned house near my gf's house. sitting in the front lawn is a red trans am that is unlocked. it's in pretty rough shape. if i wanted to claim it, how would i do it?
This is a very nice find A couple weeks ago I was working at a dealer auto auction driving the cars through the bay to get bidded on one of the cars I drove through was a 1999 Corvette fully loaded in mint condition only had 15,000 miles on it even the original tires on it looked brand spanking new just sat in the garage all that time sold for $15,000 whole sale dealers discount.
I can't remember whether it was Motor Trend or Car & Driver but I read an article about this thing, years ago. Amazing how it was just frozen in time for decades.
Had an 82,84,85 and 86......put em' all in the bone yard. Also had an 82 and two 86 Firebirds...also wound up in the bone yard. Those were some drunk and stupid days.Lucky to be alive.🙏🙌
John Branski, the answer to your question is quite simple, the dust was on the car before it was put in the container. You don't get dust in a sealed container.
XE521 well a semi trailer isnt exactly airtight, but i guess that does make sense. Especially considering the changed tires and the hand prints and such even though we didnt see anyone touch the car. I never thought about the possibility of it being dusty already
@@TheJerrydon575 how much did they pay? If thats all they paid 4 that car, they basically stole that car if it was almost never ran. What a lucky SOB!!!
T-Tops (They all leaked) manual trans and the upgraded interior! I had an 89. Loved that rattle box. Flexed like crazy, the car would literally twist when you floored it. Fun cars, would love to have one in pristine condition. 15 second car.
@@HEADBANGRR when you buy a car like this and it isnt registered ,titled or run through the dealer procedure of customer pick up,this is how they are delivered
To my knowledge this had the LB9 I think it was called. The LG4 was an earlier motor. Btw to the 305's defense when modified it reaches the same hp/L as a modified 350 so then it becomes more of a matter of more displacement.
What's the story on that B-5 blue 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner sitting in front of the Z-28? The owner mentions "take some pictures of the Roadrunner too!" The Roadrunner would be worth way more than the Z if it's in the same condition as the Z.
If im not mistaken i believe the 92 camaros were still able to do this. any other cars im not sure of but i had a 92 Camaro and it has a cable driven speedometer i think. not sure.
When that car came out i wanted one so bad it hurt . My rich Uncle bought both my girl cousins brand new Irocs we all went to the same high school i drove a old mazda pickup i found in a backyard . The day they got em both of them bitched and cried literally tears because they weren't the right color no joke . I realized at that moment rich kids suck I bought a used one years later It took me years to rebuild it , wile i worked at a sawmill all week and fought MMA in casinos on weekends . It wasn't as nice as theres but knowing how hard i worked and the pain and hard times i went thru to earn it every drive was nothing but pure happyness and pride . Just recently i had to sale my GSXR 1000 I rebuilt . It was my baby but a family member got seriously sick so i sold it . I live 30 minutes past Seattle and im trying to find a good deal on another sport bike now ive done it before ill do it again . Its awsome to see someone finding a treasure like this congrats fellas.
I had the same car.. watching this brought back all the memories.. at the dealership weekly.. the transmission smell and catalytic converter fire🔥..oh the memories......
I worked in the new car dept as a tech prepping and checking the new cars as they came from the factory at a chevy dealership in costa mesa ca the year that these first came out.... So for me to see one again after all these years with the sticker etc still on it is really a trip... When the very first few of the IROC's started coming in they all had some issue that made the check engine light be on/stay on... Its been a long time since then and I don't recall all the details exactly but as I recall it was a known issue on all of them but was deemed not a real problem. more of a malfunction in the check engine light itself. An official service bulletin had not been put out yet on how to correct it but there were people who had already bought and paid for there cars and wanted them.. So, and I don't know if this happened at all dealerships or only at the one I worked at but the order came down for me to just disconnect the check engine light and sign off on the cars and let them go... I can understand the logic there at least how it was presented to me at that time but still it was my name and word on that paperwork and I did not like at all being forced to say everything was fine with a vehicle when I knew there was some issue and was told to hide it.... Very shortly after that or perhaps at the same time myself and my dirrect boss and another coworker were all talking as another tech was prepping a new pickup when all of us heard something hit the funnel as some oil was being put in. the tech actually working on it saw it was a small nut but was not quick enough to do anything and it went into the engine... We all tried trying to see it in there and the tech who's job it was tried like heck to fish it out with a magnate but nothing worked.. the sales manager came back saying the guy who bought it and was waiting was a real prick and pitching a bitch so the call was made to just let him take it and deal with any issues in warranty if problems arose... You know, I can then and now see the logic in those calls. But my word means something to me and I just could not live with being forced to do things I thought not right so I quit that job, partly over those IROC's..... Seeing this brings that all back up... Really my only point here is i sure wonder if when they get it started if that check engine light is going to be stuck on or not..... Im not really sure what the first year was and maybe this is later so it would not apply... but a bit of inside trivia for anyone interested anyways..... I know and see all the time a 69 shelby gt350 thats been burried in a garage for over 20 years and looks all orig and flawless under all the dust... I hope I get to post a video of it one day if i ever talk the guy into pulling it out....
You are so nice sincere person, telling the truth is gods love people like u,hopefully u doing well and succes whatever in ur lifes,im from malaysia.a wise men lovers
Excellent question! How is that possible! The tires are wrong too. They could have changed the tires before shooting the video, but you would have to take the car out to change them right? Maybe, just maybe they could have squeezed in there to put those tires on it
I'm way more interested in the story of how and why it ended up getting put away like that. It didn't even have the dealer prep work done to it, as the front air dam is still in its packaging and the plastic wrap is everywhere, and it wasn't a rare or special enough model at the time for anyone (sane) to want to preserve like that either. And what happened to the original wheels? Still, its a great find and a piece of history.
I would pamper that car and drive it as it was found. Wouldn't mod it or change anything about it, call me boring but I just love cars out of the box in stock format. Great find friend and thank you for documenting it!
I doubt that I would even drive it. Just pull it out in the driveway, wash and polish it then cover it back up. Just a cool car to show to friends and sit in it and admire. Leave the plastic on everything too
Hey!! I like this car! It's from 1985,when I was 17 and high school! Let me relive! Those memories!! It's been 34 years now! A looking time ago!!! Now is It here 51..My GOD!
Sounds like an inside job. The car somehow never made it to the dealership? Then 23 yrs later these guys didn't just accidentally find parked trailers? Come on. Seriously?
Nope, the low output LG4 (VIN code H). Manual trans 85-up Z-28 and IROCs were all the low output carbed motors till 88 when they went to the TBI injection. I dont think the TPI was ever available with a manual, I know it wasn't up til 90 anyway...
a1veedubber You're right, the L69 had dual snorkel intakes. The LG4 was a dog, my Camaro had that engine until I found a wrecked 84 Z28 with an L69 and did a swap, it was better, but not by much. The TPI 5.0 was available with a 5 speed, but the TPI 5.7's were all automatics.
I'm confused as to why anyone would think this is fake? It has roller transport steel wheels the interior clearly shows no wear or sun damage, ofcourse it won't be flawless the car has still existed on earth since 1985
+jamison s They didn't ship with steel wheels-they shipped with the aluminum wheels with the centers in a box in the hatch area. PDI'd many new GM cars in my day.
+jamison stagaard General Motors. Actually, out here it was Jack Cooper Transport to the dealers. The point is, this car was delivered to the original dealer with the aluminum wheels. This is no way suggests this car is not legitimate-it simply had it's original wheels removed for whatever reason.
What I meant was over all these years the car could have gone through many hands, my uncle at one point bought an 80's Camaro about 5 years ago from a wealthy man who bought it new and put it in a garage. My uncle bought it from him with plastic on the seats and all and sold it within a few hours. Who's to say this hasn't been shipped to different people and gone through different hands in all these years even while in that shipping container. At some point someone thought to put crap wheels on for transport.
well it can't be that brand new if it's missing its rims those are the rims that came with from the factory they didn't come with snow tires on the back of it obviously it's been driven and stored that way
Buick Bubba I was just about to post about that. I think that's even more remarkable. If the IROC has been there that long, the Roadrunner has got to be in pretty amazing shape too.
You realize after all the safety laws in about 92 (the last year of this generation camaro) they made a 25th anniversary edition with a 350 and the z/28s deducted a bunch of weight yet added parts. They are actually mean little cars. Stock they run a 1/4 mile in late 14 seconds
I would bet $100 this car was stolen back in 1985... Car still has wax pencil factory markings on it and the car is put in the back of a trailer on some old overgrown property for 23 years.... lol.... Yup... I'd bet $100.....
WOW a whole $100!!!! You really are a player. How about we make it $10,000 seeing I bought it from the original owner with all the documentation and clear title. That would be impossible if it was stolen.
Amazing that this video is almost ten years old and people still trying to claim its fake. The car is real. Original owner sold the wheels to fund the racecar project he planned for this car. Front splitter was in the backseat. Those didn't get installed until PDI at the dealer. Yes it was possible to refuse PDI, therefore you got the car with all of the plastic inside, etc. TPI was an option on IROC in 85, rear discs were option on IROC in 85, 145 speedo wasnt until mid year 86. The car now sits in a small museum in Tennessee.
Finally someone with some common sense. Who would go through the effort of covering this vehicle in plastic from the dealer (and furthermore where would you find it?), putting the original sales sheet, and not to mention rolling the odometer, and all for the purpose of tricking some people on UA-cam. It's truly mind boggling how jaded people are from seeing so much garbage on the Internet
Thats pretty damn cool. I'd love a find like that. Driving anything that old the way it came right off the showroom floor would be awesome no matter what car. But a manual Z28 is just an awesome find. Any video's of this thing cleaned up with some new wheels?

The interior was flawless, absolutely zero rodents and the car still smelled new. . I’m the guy who personally detailed that car for months before sending it to auction where it now resides in a museum by the new owner.
I think it has the factory roller wheels. They would get replaced at the dealer maybe.
here is your answer! "
My buddy Jason at Katech turned me on to this incredible find.

This is truly an amazing thing to find a piece of history in the back of a trailer
That is one 80's camaro I would love to own.
(82-92 is third generation)
So what happen to the IROC FACTORY RIMS
And tires! Same thing I was wondering!
You didn’t see them on the flatbed? They were at the front of the flatbed by the wench.

Wrong! Chevy shipped these with steelies because customers had the option to choose a la carte wheel options that the dealer would install before handing it over to customer.
Ronin_69
Those rims and tires were put on before storing.
001Andrew100
The thing is...if the car was stollen on the way to dealer?
CapitainJack0502 it would be highly unlikely but still, tracing the vin number will show if its ever been recorded as stolen.
depending on the state if a car sits on your land for long enough u can file for a title registered owner then has like 90 days to remove it or its yours

I'm guessing that engine is the L69 305 with a whopping 190 horsepower. Still a cool car though.
190hp on this car is different than 190 in a Civc or SI. This thing is making peak torque at 3200rpm.
alexinnitro2 Oh I know, my first car was an 84 Camaro with the L69, I know these cars all too well. It was still slower than shit dude.
Nope, the low output LG4 (VIN code H). Manual trans 85-up Z-28 and IROCs were all the low output carbed motors till 88 when they went to the TBI injection. I dont think the TPI was ever available with a manual, I know it wasn't up til 90 anyway...

+jnf91 but who's them? In 30 plus years it could have been shipped around many times by different people
+jamison stagaard General Motors.

I’m the guy who personally detailed that car for months before sending it to auction where it now resides in a museum by the new owner. Was an amazing experience bringing that car back to its original factory, showroom shine. Oh the amazing memories I have of that car. Will miss it dearly.
@@RTXti-ld7dx Yo I came here from the Corvette video and I saw your comment there about this car. It's an awesome find and I am glad I watched this video and the new one where it's being detailed. There are lots of cars locked in garages or sitting in yards that we don't know about and it's amazing when they are being found.
Would anything happen to the engine for sitting for that long?
