At that time there wasn't a band in the world that wanted to follow them .. Absolute 🔥

Following Skynyrd was a bad choice for just about any band out there . Only the Who had the energy in their early days to survive following them ,and it must have been a bit nerve wrecking for even a band as mighty as they were . ( Just check out video of the Who playing at Woodstock 69' . They were on fire there ) Once Steve and Artimus were gigging with the Boys ,they were a monster power rock monster , untoppable live & no band including the Stones would ever dare follow them after Knebworth incident . In 1977 Skynyrd would have demolished Led Zeppelin live in concert . There . I said it . I hope I don't get fl@gged for it !!!!!!

One of the GREATEST opening concert songs of all time!! Ronnie was king, but Steve Gaines, for the one year he was with the band (prior to Ronnie, Steve and Cassie getting killed in the plane crash) added so much to Allen and Gary's amazing guitar riffs. Steve would have taken Skynyrd to unimaginable heights!! Will always be my favorite band of all time. Thanks for sharing!!

Ed King would have too if Ronnie didn't threaten to kill him. Ed hand a BIG hand in created the skynryd sound.

Indeed, Ed had some interesting background prior to Skynyrd. Thanks for pointing that out to give credit where credit is due.

Ronnie was as tough as they come. He not only walked the walk, he paved the road. You can see why Skynyrd is my #1 band of all-time, (followed closely by ZZ Top and Pink Floyd).

He did, but it is not how it is played. Ed King was much better, maybe because he wrote the song.

    Steve Gaines was headed for
    Super Stardom. He took them
to another level. I bought Street
Survivors the first week it was
    released., With the original press
cover with the fire around them.
So sad! Will always be one of my
favorite albums. It should be a top
10 album of all time. I played it till
    I wore it out.

This is what a band sounds like when they practiced everyday all day for 15 years at this point.

It's true about Ronnie Van Zant's violent nature., In fact, in later interviews both guitarist Ed King and drummer Artimus Pyle said Ronnie was very abusive to the band members, especially when he was drinking. Although Artimis said Ronnie didn't mess with him because he had joined the band later on and he wasn't someone that Ronnie had known a long time like the others. In addition, Artimus was also just out of the Marines and still pretty fit, so Ronnie pretty much knew not to mess with him. But Ed King, said Ronnie's abusiveness, particularly when they were on the road, was 'the' reason he left the band. There's also the story that in the early days when Ronnie was forming the band he and one of the other guys went to find to Allen Collins to talk him into joining the band and Allen got on his bike and ran away to hide in a tree because he figured Ronnie had come over there to beat him up. Similar story with Bob Burns. And Billy Powell the keyboard player said one time he disagreed with Ronnie on how a song was being done and instead of discussing it, Ronnie just hauled off and punched him out. Billy never argued with Ronnie about any of the music arrangements after that. Honestly, you can tell from some of the photos and videos that Ronnie was someone who could get pissed off pretty easily and was a bully. I personally can see it in his eyes in some of those photos but I've been around guys like that growing up so I kind of can spot the type. And my old man was one of those hot tempered abusive types, so I know them when I see them. But the band all respected Ronnie as their leader and as a talented songwriter, which he definitely was.

Ronnie VanZant never wrote down any of the lyrics to any of his songs he kept them all in his head saying " if you have to write it down to remember it then it ain't worth remembering " which is remarkable considering all the drugs and alcohol he consumed 😳✌♥️

MCA. He’s working for the late Adam Yauch, rapper from the Beastie Boys.
No, not really, but that would’ve been interesting.

I get a kick out of your videos.
What I'd really like to stand out is this is REAL LIVE MUSIC. .There aren't overdubs, synthesizers, drum clicks or backing tracks
What's mind-blowing is the guitar players are not using an arsenal of effect pedals. . I know Allen Collins used a Wah-Wah pedal but other than that, maybe a distortion box plugged into amps with reverb.
And it's worth noting that Steve Gaines who is playing the Fender Stratocaster had only been in the band a few months at the time of this recording. Steve was Ed King's replacement and by an amazing coincidence they shared the exact same birthday, September 14th 1949. 😢 Unfortunately Steve Gaines died in the same plane crash that killed Ronnie Van Zant in October of 1977. The crash happened three days after the release of Street Survivors.
