    For me the most disgusting fact that I learned from the series was just how many times he could have been stopped. The police negligence and willingness to give a white man another chance over protecting the people of color in the community. He had a criminal record by the time he was tried for sexual assault and was just let back out into the world. The consequence? He killed more people including the brother of his previous assault victim. Holy shit!!!!! I don't even want to imagine the pain that family went through. The same man put them through hell twice and was stopped far too late.

      Ehhhh not really. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a demented monster for sure but if you’re talking about something who’s truly evil, then Ted Bundy is your guy. The dude got his rocks off by torturing, raping and killing women for his own sick pleasure. On the opposite of the spectrum, you have Ed Gein who suffered a severe case of schizophrenia and psychosis to where he was incoherent and legitimately wasn’t aware of what he was doing. Dahmer is somewhere in the middle.
      Again, I cannot stress this enough that yes he was a monster who killed and resorted to cannibalism but never actually harmed his victims. For the most part, his killing were quick and painless. He actually resented the thought of torture and making people suffer. I doubt he has any remorse for what he did but when it come to being “truly evil” Dahmer is actually on the lower end of the spectrum.

      His father made very little off the book. He wrote it only as a warning for other families. Lionel Dahmer (Jeffs Dad) wrote to Judge William Gardner asking for the judge to keep Jeffrey in prison after he was convicted of second-degree sexual assault in 1989 of Koneraks brother. The letter said;
      "I have reservations regarding Jeff’s chances when he hits the streets. I have experienced an extremely frustrating time trying to urge initiation of some type of treatment," the letter read, per Today. "I sincerely hope that you might intervene in some way to help my son, who I love very much and for whom I want a better life. I do feel, though, that this may be our last chance to initiate something lasting and that you can hold the key."
      Lionel's plea was not implemented and
      the result was that Jeff was sentenced to spend a year at a work release camp and was then given five years of probation after his release in 1990. He was actually on probation when he committed the majority of his crimes.

    They also hinted in the new show that he probably strangled a new tenet in his apartment. In the show it shows them talking and then noises coming from apartment.
    In real life this dude was strangled in his apartment dead.... I think a floor above Jeff's or below. Jeffrey was questioned then, and after his capture and said he didn't do it.
    If he can admit to killing a kid and drilling a hole in their head, he woulda admitted to strangling the man but he said he didn't... So this guy was strangled in the same apartment complex as Dahmer. That's the extra drawback when a killer makes his way into bad neighborhoods.
    I currently have a serial killer in my town, Stockton CA. It took a min to realize it was a serial because he's shooting people. But there's shootings ALL THE TIME in Stockton so they had no idea. Serial killer in a bad neighborhood. Scary.

      Wow. Is this for real? By far one of the most thought provoking comments I have seen in a while. We humans are like rodents. When colonies get overpopulated, individual rats will go insane and chew off their own fingers first and then go on to attack each other to the death. Hamster moms will eat their own offspring up when feeling stressed in captivity. I think this thing with people who lose (or gain it) and start offing their own kind will become more and more common as the years go by. There was this guy in my condo who would feed stray dogs and take them home... he didn't kill them right away, bit they always vanished after being with him for some months... he then tried to kill a teen he was friends with, but the kid managed to escape and told on him. He didn't have the balls to face his own shit and made a run for it. Nobody knows where he is to this day.

      I am an English language consultant in my country, Colombia, and there was this child serial killer named Luis Garavito who would entice little children into tall grass lots, sugar cane fields or the local woods and he would get drunk while talking to them. After he felt himself tipsy, he would strangle them, do sexual things to the bodies and then dismembered some of them. He killed over 130 kids. Since he would often set fire to the area of the crime, he once got caught in one of those fires and got badly burned (sloppy drunk). He seeked hospital attention and that's how they finally got him.

He did have a hard life. This isn't the pain olympics for serial killer upbringing. The fear of loneliness will lead to weird things. Some people will have more extreme responses than others. He was also a gay man in a time where you got made fun of, beat, and/or killed for being gay. I'm not a serial killer apologist, but I've done my research on this man. Was he physically abused? No. But was he emotionally neglected? 100%. Also, witnessing a parents suicide/suicide attempt as a young child has been proven to mentally mess a kid up, and that sticks with them into adulthood.

      Incredible isn't it? What's worse is Jeff was out after 12 months prison and was on 5 years probation for the sexual assault on 13-year-old Keison Sinthasomphone, the brother of Dahmer’s victim Konerak Sinthasomphone, who was the 14-year-old victim you see on the Netflix series. Also Jeffrey Dahmers father wrote to Judge Gardner asking for help for Jeff's mental health hoping the Judge would put him in a Psych Hospital instead of probation but he did not. If the system was better most of the victims would not have died instead Jeff may have gotten help and support he needed.
