Can u pls guide me how much should I feed my dove and how many times she’s about 6 weeks old but still not very good in eating by herself. I mean she tries but is slow
I’m just learning and watching everyone’s videos before I get my birds this fall. Thanks. I’m interested in the soaking vs no soaking and nutrition uptake and palatability for the birds too.
I only feed pellets(stag developer/grower) once a day every afternoon. All they can eat. When the pigeons are not interested anymore i remove the feeds. This is my method because they don't eat every morning they just waste my time lol. So i only see them every afternoon.
When I pick up a sick bird, mainly I will soak about 10 to 15 whole corn seeds, and the same amount of peas, carrot pieces, parrot maintenance pellet [for weight], and roll each one into their beak. On sick birds that are not eating, or starving sharp keel pigeons, I feed them about 50 to 100 seeds each time, twice a day. They will pick up weight in no time. Just so they can maintain a healthy weight while they take in meds and fight off their illness.
I feed my homers once a day after i release them in the evenings, same time and i let them eat all they want. They do well during the day and fly 30-45 minutes in the evenings, eat all they want and get to do it again the next day 👍🕊
Yep so do i feed my racers twice aday morning and evening morning is only abit of food to get them till the evening then all the can eat at the evening for 10 mins
Hi' That does seem to be too much to me, But there again it all depends on what type of mix you are feeding" if it's a high protein or low protein, With a heavy mix i would give half that amount, Also depends on what type of racing" if you are sprint or long distance,👍
Give it twice a day. I give half tbsp in the morning and 1 tbsp in afternoon. If your pigoen got fat than reduce it. Like one day give it twice and next day one tbsp.
Great short video 👍 I’m only a beginner still learning and I feed once a day in the afternoon at the same time. I obviously oversees my birds big time going of this video.

Currently counting down the 8 weeks as off now untill i can let them out for there first time... Ive been told to feed them once a day ony at one ounce(28g)per bird Only I hear you say you feed the twice a day morning and night?

Apparently what they like to do here in the UK)She’s just started taking seeds by hand, but I’m finding conflicting suggestions as to wether I need to soak the seeds first, or not. What do you recommend? Thanks for your help in this. 😊🌸
Hi I’m no expert but I heard that you don’t need to soak the seeds before feeding it to the pigeon because once you give them water along with it then the water will soak the seeds in their crop making it easier to digest
I feed once per day in the evening , one medicine cup per bird..... No food wasted ......My birds fly good & they healthy....... You may run a different program so its really up to the owner.....My best tip is dont leave no food around regardless how much you feed...... You will make fat birds & may draw mice...
All good except that’s a desert spoon you are using, not a table spoon. Table spoon is bigger. Don’t starve your birds. Do you get grumpy when you don’t have enough food. I guess pigeons are no different.
@Jake Palma yes, probably closer to 30grams per bird, but that’s twice a day - once in the morning and again in the arvo. So if your going to feed once a day give them 60grams each in one hit. Adjust as need be, if they eat it all give a bit extra next time and visa versa.
Really appreciate your video. Obviously you have some followers and lots of knowledge. I need guidance please. I am desperate for help. I have about 600 pigeons. I began rescuing them well over 10 years ago. When I saw how cruel people were to them how misunderstood and intelligent they were and what Amazing Pets they made, every time I would see one in distress I would bring it home and Doctor it or feed it and put it in an Avery where it could come or go. One thing I learned early on is they never go. I did this for so long and 2 years ago when I was up to almost 300 pigeons which was manageable for me, I ended up being hospitalized multiple times over about 6 or 7 months. I hired someone to take care of my birds. I pull eggs every other Saturday so we keep zero population. I paid this person extra to pull eggs and even though I confirmed with him that it was done when I was able to get out of bed and get back out to my Avery about three and a half months later, I saw that I had probably 500 birds. As we know they want to be parents, they're great parents they lay two eggs at a time and they all hatch. That is what happened. I was livid he was fired but I was left with more birds than I could manage but I just figured it out. Over this last year, I have hoped that some of them would leave and find new homes but all they do is leave and come back with neighbors. That's how I am up to about 600. I can't stop rescuing but that is a very small amount of pigeons these days as I seem to have made a big enough and loud enough impression on people that they watch for such things. Many people now know how to feed babies for short time and turn them loose or to set a broken leg or two as some still do bring them to me. During covid my husband's business struggled but we kept working. A year ago he had to lay me off and I was sure that I could find work but I've never been old before. I couldn't find work that would allow me to schedule to take care of my birds and do a job that brought in money. So I applied for unemployment and someone had stolen my identity and I wasn't able to get unemployment. I have been fighting 10 months to do everything that is needed get all the original copies of everything and get my application and again. Until then we've been living on my husband's income which has reduced drastically. My feed for my pigeons is up to $900. I have pulled out more things to sell and sell everything that I can but I will run out of that Source before too long. I have never been one to ask for help but I cannot not help these birds. The new ones that come in I tell people I can fix them or help them but they have to take the bird back and about half the time that works it is a horrible catch 22. I need some guidance, or I need some help, I need some ideas. I used to feed scratch and I read on all the sites that scratch was really bad for pigeons it was garbage and it would kill them or make them sick at best. I had a lot of birds with puffy crops, once it seemed to starve to death when there was food out, different respiratory ailments and then I switched to game bird feed Which is less expensive than pigeon food but very similar and everybody rallied and became very healthy. People come to see my birds and ask me if I'm sure they're pigeons because they're so big lol. I love my birds and I want to take good care of them so when money got tight I started researching less expensive feeds that were good for pigeons. I began checking scratch grains and found there is one brand that is clean, has more grains and is washed in an oil and I have been feeding that now for 4 years and I have not had a bird with issues from us. It is amazing feed and $10 less than the game bird food for 50 lb. So I have done that on my own now I give them 2/3 good scratch and 1/3 game bird food. They are all doing very well. Maybe somebody could tell me how to save money on Feed and still have them healthy and happy. Maybe someone could tell me how to find homes for some of my birds. I do keep my cage open and they do fly but they come back with neighbors lol. Everybody in the neighborhood has figured out how to block all roosting areas and so you know where they come. What does the person do when they have tried so hard to help and they love these words so much and they know they were doing the right thing and then they get old and then they have no money. People say I should have never put myself in this position but I went from earning $100,000 a year to not having a job. I went from 2 or 300 Birds when I got sick to ending up with now 600 because of the situation. Is there anybody out there that could maybe Mentor me or give me some ideas and what to do. I would be so grateful. I don't mind putting my phone number or email out there as I am an open book and always available for animals but I don't know if you would want me to do that on your site. If you could just please advise if you have any pointers or guidance I would so greatly appreciate it. I will keep monitoring your site for all the new and wonderful things I can learn. And I will tell you with this many birds and this many years I have learned so many things that I could relay to others to help them care for their birds. Things that were never touched on when I was Finding information some things I have still never seen and some things I have been told to never do but with minor alterations it works. I would love to be able to help people take better care of their birds and learn as I have. I don't have a lot of years left to relay all this information I have worked so hard to learn. Can you give me some ideas as to what to do please
