I've had my booths for about 4 years and have had a good deal of success with furniture and large items, but I've always struggled with the smalls. I just learned more in 26 minutes than I've picked up on my own in 4 years. THANK YOU!!!
That's amazing to hear! I am so glad they video was helpful :)
I’m a new subscriber and I’m so grateful for finding this channel. The information you provided put everything together for me. I’ve been unsuccessful in my flea market booth and was thinking of giving up but a piece of me knows I can turn this around to be a success. I’m going to get motivated, go through my ton of boxes and set my booth up for success. Thank you for sharing.
Backstory: I’m a veteran and through my therapist we came up with this flea market idea to prevent me from isolating and to get me socializing. I really enjoy being a reseller.
Wow! First off, thank you for your service! Second, I am humbled to be able to serve you on your journey! So excited for you to see what you can make of your business in this new year 😊
This is great! Congratulations on finding something new that you enjoy and will bring you out of your comfort zone allowing for some healthy socialization! I can absolutely relate. Since covid shutdown and quarantine I have had such a difficult time reintroducing myself into social situations. I shop, shop, and shop some more. I resell online, but I've been horrible at keeping up. I know that I crave the interaction because I will talk to anyone at a thrift store or yard sale! I will start setting up my very first booth on Wednesday to be ready for customers on Friday! I'm excited but nervous! Seeing your comment is very encouraging! I hope it's working well for you! I can't begin to imagine life in the military or the effects it has on so many service members like yourself! We do not appreciate you all nearly enough, and we certainly do not take responsibility for so many who need a little, or even a lot, of help figuring things out once their service has ended. Thanks for what you sacrificed, and I hope you are successful in all of your endeavors, especially the ones that bring you joy! Isolation can get really ugly! I should remind myself of this much more often, but there's far too much magic in the world to hide away from it!
Spot on about young ppl seeing something and wanting it without searching for antiques per se. Sage advice!
Opening my first booth Feb 1st 2024 and wanted to say thank you for so much absorbable material to help me to be more successful! I’ve been on a waitlist for a while, now that it’s coming to fruition I’m re binging your channel 💛🤘🗝️
I liked how you not only explained what we needed to do, when setting up our displays. You also showed us how to do it by the different pictures you showed us.
🌺 I wish the manager where I have my booth would watch this video. She always tells me to take out greeery, flowers, and things that she calls fillers. She says she only wants antique items. But there are so many booths that don’t have any antique’s in them. They are filled with things like (the black & white quotes). It drives me crazy because I like to make my booth look fun, & stage my items the way I would display in my own home. Thank You for another great video 😁
I would respectfully disagree with your mall
Owner :)
Within my shop what worked for me was "merchandising by color." Customers viewing multiple items had interests in cataleptic vignettes and additional purchases. I also had one vocal point, merchandised with "fluffy accents" to soften visually. I designed my products utilizing vintage soft good finds, jewelry, bridal dresses and embellishments. Holiday seasons were displayed in front of two windows of a Victorian home, vintage furniture displays were white, including a faux fireplace. My Christmas tree handmade elegant ornaments on display through the year . . . sold many off season especially during my "Christmas in July". I've been designing/selling since 1957 and still do. Enjoy your inspiring videos and tips, thank you.
Great tips! Thank you for sharing!
Roberta do you have a UA-cam page or an Instagram page? I’m so amazed that you’ve been in this business as long as you have.
This video is INVALUABLE. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You're very welcome!
Invaluable advice, and so appreciated by this brand new booth owner! I adore your channel & your down to earth approach. I've really learned so much and want to thank you, Melanie for sharing your time and knowledge so that others might share in your successes! 🤞
I’m so glad it was helpful 😊👍🏻
With your new series of bringing people on to talk about their booths I would love to see other types of booths I know antiques is the focus of the channel and I love it but I think it would be cool to see others who do paintings or jewelry and other creative things to see how they decorate their booths!!
Thanks for the idea!
Very helpful and I am binge watching today
I love the second display with the clock as the focal point and the third with the pops of color.
I liked that one too :)
I really like the idea of mixing old and new items.
So well taught! You're right on point!
Spring pink and green is beautiful!
Very useful tips and good reminders for those of us that have had a booth for a few years. I'm always looking for ways to update my booths. Now to find a way to get others in our mall to update on a regular basis. Our owners are very helpful to new vendors but not pushy or demanding with the old faithful vendors that have been there for years.
Great examples!
Thank you so much for sharing your talents with all of us ❤
Great advice! Thank you.
Great tips as always. Thank you so much!!😁

Just starting a booth on Saturday. This video will help me. Thanks! 😊
Good luck!!
Very interesting and informative - I’m heading over to my stall in the UK tomorrow to start our Xmas display and will be taking note of what you’ve suggested, Thank you Melanie
You’re so welcome!
Great tips! I rent a bookshelf in an antique mall and I definitely have not been putting all these principles in place. I xant wait to go back to re-organize it now😁
Yay Maria!
Such great tips. I love your displays. I think I need more stuff - time to go thrifting. 😉
I think that's probably my issue, as well. I'm a minimalist at home, so I think I've been leaning that way in my booth, too.
Great tips
Glad it was helpful!
Great info
Glad it was helpful!
Just came across your channel and so enjoyed your presentation. Hit the subscribed button and look forward to watching your channel.
Awesome, thanks!
Very smart lady...
Thank you Mary!
Thanks for sharing your tips on how to display items in an interesting way - that was awesome - yes, cluttering is not the way to display your items you want to sell - presentation is a draw card of interest to customers looking to buy even plants or books along with an eye-catching item is a sale. Not that I would ever have a booth, who knows,0 but it was interesting all the same.
Just got my first booth! It's a shy 2'x4' blank peg board section with no power outlets. I sell tea cups and my brother sells toy cars and its a real challenge to merge them together into a cohesive space.
Your aesthetic and your generosity are greatly appreciated! I was in a new local antique mall and selected three beautiful items, but I went home empty-handed: no labels or prices! So sad...many other lovely things were buried too deep for me to retrieve, and I did not want to, once again, ask the staff to get something for me that was not priced. Question regarding fluff/filler plants: are yours real or fake? Either way, they soften things and look lovely!😊
Hi Marie! Yes, it happens to me too :( My filler plants are usually faux. I do like the freshness they add :)
Great advise! Do you price your “fluff” pieces? I ask because some say never put anything in your booth that is not priced. TIA
ETA so happy to see actual examples!
Yes! I usually do, bc often people want to buy it all to recreate the same look :)
So helpful! I get lots of compliments on my Booth vignettes, but not many sales.Maybe I need to think of a 3 shelf section like you show here, instead of several smaller vignettes on each shelf. I have had a Booth for a year and a half.
Hi Jeanne! That’s great that you have gotten compliments on our displays! There could be a few things going on as far as sales go… are you in a booth that fits your target customer? Are your prices where they should be? How is your marketing, are you connecting with customers on your social media channels? All things to consider :)
Hi Melanie, Great tips. Thank you. I’m doing a vintage market that will be in the evening. What would you recommend to use for lighting? I will have a 10 x 10 canopy as well as a 10 x 8 open air. Thanks
Hi Mary! Any sort of twinkle lights are always fun, hanging from your tent :) I imagine you may wanna find a few lamps though for some additional light
Very kind of you to share your display secrets. Thanks so much. Btw do you sell your display props like the plants and books and foliage?
Yes! I do put a price tag on everything :)
Such great tips! Where do you find greenery? I’ve been looking for a good source for greenery.
Sometimes I grab things at Hobby Lobby, but I also like Lancaster Vintage, Col House Designs, and Ragon House
When you use greenery filler in boxes cans or whatever .. is that part of what they pay or do you take out when they purchase? Hope that makes sense.
Both! Usually I price it separately, often I find people want all of it :)
Great advice. It would be nice if you showed examples of what you talk about.
Thank you! Did you reach the part of the video where we walk through all the different photos of my store shelving done in different ways? Unfortunately I don’t have that store anymore so cannot do that live, but there’s a lot of good info and examples in the photos :)
Do you have any great tips or ideas for doing a vintage market?
They’re a ton of work! But can be a great way to connect with customers face to face and build that longer term relationship :) It is still helpful to give your booth a cohesive “look”, and make sure you have a wide range of prices available. But most of all, I use them as a way to build those customer relationships :)
Any suggestions for booth with limited space? My booth is mostly pegboard and can't be more than 4 inches in depth.
Find a niche and stick with it. With that small of a space, I would pick a certain type of item and to all in, like art or vintage jewelry or other small items you can package flat and hang (maybe fabric, vintage lace, vintage papers, etc). If you can get “known” for an item you’re little space will be the place people come back to over and over again when they need more, and they’ll be able to tell their friends too.
Your displays are awesome but how do you replace the items that sell? Do you pull other things from around or store or have matching inventory stashed somewhere?
Great question! I just shift things pull items from other areas, and then regularly shopping to fill the holes :)
@@LostFoundDecor thanks! I have that problem sometimes and I almost hate selling from my awesome display! LOL!
The crowd doesn't care if that glassware is Fenton or Fostoria; they want the glasses or base to look like it came from a mid-century home. Your 5 points are perfect
Is the greenery natural or artificial? Thank you for the great video :)
Would this same technique be used for tall bookshelves with 5 shelves? You would want it all to be the same color theme, etc?
Yes!
👍😊😊😊😊
Hi! Where do you purchase your faux plants from?
Hi Lisa! Here’s a video that actually shares my favorite wholesale greenery resources. If you aren’t set up to shop wholesale, then I also have had good luck with Hobby Lobby florals

Where do you buy your greenery?
Here are my favorite wholesale suppliers :) ua-cam.com/video/hl50ml0nuSE/v-deo.html
I think you should use the term "grouping items". Make more sense than the term you are using, which is Merchandising.
What is the distance between the shelves?
I’m so sorry, I can’t tell you! These were photos from when I had my brick and mortar store, which I no longer have. I would say at least probably 18” though
Do you sell the items with the fluff in them? Do you charge for the fluff or take it out when they buy the item?
Usually I price it all separately, sometimes I do mark things NFS but that’s usually floral pieces I’ve cut off or messed with in some way (basically stuff I would never expect anyone to want to buy!)
And please please please put the price on BOTH sides of the tag!!!! If I want something and it doesn’t have a price on the tag and I can’t reach it - I continue to the next booth. If you don’t care enough to put a price on both sides I don’t care enough to purchase from you!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts as a buyer! Super helpful to know what things will turn a potential customer away
I totally agree.
Me, personally? I do not like new items mixed with old. When I see too much of it I’m out of there. But I get where you’re coming from. It just turns me off.
Every mall is different, and totally depends on the ideal customer you are trying to attract :) Thanks for your thoughts!
I have used things to fluff and they end up on the floor. Candles, greenery, paper, ornaments. 😔
Boo, I’m sorry to hear that 😩 Sometimes you do have customers that aren’t so polite!
I love your information but I'm a visual learner and need to see what your talking about while your explaining it. :-/
Such great tips. I love your displays. I think I need more stuff - time to go thrifting. 😉
Thanks Terry! (ps….it’s always time to go thrifting, right?!)
