Taka(Alucard) actually told a story about that, where they let a few One Piece Cosplayers sit in the front roll. When the reveal happened, apparently a Franky Cosplayer stood up and yelled “EVEN BETTER!”
Yeah, I was at Youmacon for the TFS After Dark panel that year. That shit was absolutely wild. Everyone was dying from laughter!!!
Another thing as well, Taka wanted to make this series b/c some people said no one could inject comedy into such a dark series, or that a YT Abridged version of it couldn't be done (plus his own insecurities and impostor syndrome that he felt at the time about him being the only original TFS member to not have "their own" series), and the only way he could convince Lani to say yes to doing this episode was by pulling this fake out prank on their audience & fanbase.
34:38 this scene is just Alucard flexing. He's drinking wine (the blood of christ) in broad daylight travelling over open water. The Police Girl has to travel in her coffin because that's supposed to be the only way a vampire can cross open water but Alucard's so powerful he's basically immune to most of the vampire weaknesses.

Fun fact: Alucard's Twitter account is real. They would post to it in character around the release of an episode (these were released yearly). And it still occasionally gets posts even after the show ended.

One of the things so few realize when they mention carrier pigeons... they only fly back to their place of origin where they were born and raised. Which means Alucard managed to get INTO the Vatican undetected, hatch a number of pigeons before taking them elsewhere so they can fly back with said letters...

I really hope they watch the original as well at some point; genuinely great show that really knows how to put you on the edge of your seat. The abridged version is funny, but it seems to be the only thing people know about Hellsing these days.

@@locusxe1411 i half agree. It's a nice introduction as it's like an appetizer, but at least a third of any comments or conversations regarding the main series ended up being about the abridged, and not that deep either more often than not.
I don't need someone to remind me that I like the abridged series and its humor by making whatever reference they can think of.

A joke that slips by most watchers is that Alucard's mission in Japan that he left .1% undone is the beginning of High School of the Dead. So his laziness directly caused a zombie plague that played the backdrop to an ecchi anime.
Also, the Brazilian police getting impaled on flag poles is a great clue to Alucard's original identity. Vlad Dracula is still impaling alot of people.
An ecchi anime and a manga that will literally NEVER be finished because one of the authors died and his brother didn't wish to continue it after.

The MC ends up with both the busty sword chick and the childhood friend, them deciding that in a post-apocalyptic world the whole polygamy law doesn't apply anymore. The otaku and the nerdy chick also hook up and basically adopt the little girl. And they create a fortified encampment out in the middle of nowhere where they're rarely attacked by the zombies and where they and a few other people who find them and are accepted into their little community set up and start new lives.
Not only did Alucard have a twitter account he celebrated when the pope at the time abdicated his position.
Alucard celebrating ratzinger's departure is absolutely brilliantly in character.
Hellsing was the most famous Edgy anime of the time. It is really this bloody and violent. They just removed all the breaks with the language and added some amazing lines.

I'm a huge hellsing fan and it all started here. The basic plot is, in an utopic universe where Abraham van hellsing once tamed Dracula and put him in his service he founded the hellsing organization and aided Britain in ww1 and 2 with Alucard, the tamed Dracula. The remnants of the nazis (who experimented with the supernatural) return and start ww3 by bitting the British up against the Vatican who aided the nazis in ww2. The artificial vampires of the nazi army create ghouls (zombies) while the paladins of the Vatican are headed by Alexander anderson. Nuff said so far, enjoy

Technically in hellsing I believe natural vampires create ghouls when they drain the blood of people of the same sex or non virgins of the opposite sec but make vampires when they drain virgins of the opposite sex. However artificial vampires just create ghouls no matter what

Another thing to note, this OVA anime had a crazy release date. In 2006, we got the first 2 episodes with 6 months apart, and then 7 months for the 3rd, 15 months later for ep 4. Episodes 5 through 8 came out on the same day 4 years later. Followed by another 2 years for the last 2 episodes. This series animation only gets better and better
Iirc thats because 3 different studios worked on it and that it was a monsterous undertaking with how much effort was put into the scripting and animation
Episode 3 has some of my favorite lines from Alucard. Obviously I memorized his latest letter to the pope, but "cheeky dickwaffle" is just fantastic.
I actually used another line of his in D&D not too long ago. We were fighting an adult red dragon, and I was the only one not hit by a breath attack.

No they cut aloota fat out of the Original Hellsing Ultimate cause it's a 10 epsiode series, each episode is only an hour long but if feels like you spend 3 hours watching each episode lol
So bit of context; they tended to premiere these at Youmacon.
So the first one, everyone genuinely thought they were going to abridge One Piece until that hard cut to Hellsing.
And they released an episode only once a year on Halloween

Hellsing is an AMAZING series, one of my favorites. It's only 10 episodes, but each one is 45 minutes. There's two versions of it though, one that came out before the manga was finished that diverted from the manga's plot for obvious reason, and the canon accurate one, Hellsing Ultimate, that's the one you want to watch that this is based off of.

Thanks for the explanation about the "Aristocrats" joke. I've been watching Hellsing Abridged and the reaction videos to it for years, and I still never got that joke just now.
Father Anderson in the actual show serves as a foil to Alucard. In the show proper Alucard is a perfectionist who tries to keep himself contained. While Anderson is the complete opposite and embodies the "sanctioned psychopath" trope, where because hes "doing the lords work" he allowed to be as sadistic and manic as he wants as long as its towards the undead, like Alucard.
The abridged version goes the complete opposite route and has anderson just be catholic version of Alucard.
This series was how my wife and I bonded before we even started dating. She quoted it and I responded with the following quote. Our wedding was actually about two weeks ago. Our wedding dance was us going crazy to Andrew W.K.

The abridged verion only glosses over it and doesn't really explain this so I'mma explain some of the vampire lore of Hellsing (trying to not mention what information IS given in the abridged series):
The vampires in this universe all somehow originate from Dracula, who is still alive locked up deep in the soul of the vampire that goes by Alucard now and he is and always will be at the very top of the vampire hierarchy pyramid.
A new vampire is made when a vampire sucks blood from a *virgin* human, otherwise they're turned into ghouls...hence the abundance of ghouls. Plus a vampire is careful about who they turn...hence the rarity of vampires.
Vampires are nigh immortal in the sense that they can accumulate essentially the life force of as many people as they drink...it practically boils down to a reservoir of blood that every vampire magically stores inside of it which has to be all used up before it can truly be killed, otherwise they just regenerate (and Alucard/Dracula's "reservoir" is seemingly bottomless after like ~550 years of being a vampire).
A stake to the heart only paralyzes a vampire (making it the best and easierst way to kill ordinary vampires), they can jedi-mindtrick people into mindless submission, garlic repulses them, the sun quickly burns up their life force, their bodies don't age...all the traditional vampire rules apply in some way.
And Alucard specifically has mastery over all his powers that other vampires can only scratch the surface of (like turning into shadows for example, where others simply turn into mist Alucard morphs his shadows into helldogs covered in the eyes of his souls among other kinds eldritch horrors) or he has powers that other vampires simply can't do at all (Alucard can change his appearance, age and de-age his own body along with forming into the body of an accumulated soul or just flat out summoning it beside him...he's really just a conscious mass of souls that chooses to walk around as Ozzy Osbourne).
To make this abridged series, they gave a folder with the whole Helsing ultimate series, gave it internet access, and fifteen kilos of pure cocaine.
Highly recommend checking out the original show as well if you guys haven't seen it (also while the sub of it is also great I highly recommend watching the dub (it just always made more sense to me considering the characters were all British, German, French, American etc. and there was literally 1 japanese person I can recall (yumi). Also, Crispin Freeman kills it as alucard imo. But then again, that's just personal preference. If you guys do check out the original series and you choose sub, then by all means enjoy😁))

No it's DJsexadillionaire, who totally not for legal reasons is not Chris Sabat. He also totally didn't sing multiple versions of the "Cat Loves Food" Yamcha jingle in DBZA.
Fun Fact: The frenchman's last name, "Bernadotte" suggests he may be distantly related to the Swedish Royal Family. The French Bernadotte family became the royal family of Sweden in 1818 after the sudden passing of the previous crown prince of Sweden left a vacancy that needed to be filled, and it was believed Sweden would require a French marshal; so the position of crown prince was eventually offered to the French Jean Bernadotte, later known as King Charles XIV Johan of Sweden and Norway. (Though Norway is now independent and so obviously the modern royal family of Sweden is no longer the royal family of Norway.)
Hellsing Ultimate Abridged was originally posted to Takahata’s channel, roughly one a year around October, but after they all released, they moved them to the Team Four Star channel as episode bundles.

Hellsing Ultimate is... only slightly less unhinged than Abridged is. A little bit less funny, a little bit MORE violent (seriously). It's a really good show though and I highly recommend watching it if you're enjoying the Abridged version this much.
Also, I find it kind of hilarious that the Abridged Jan Valentine is actually a little bit toned down from the Ultimate one, considering how fucking ridiculous he is in Abridged it's hard to imagine, but it's true.

30:50 Yes, that is the English VA for Ainz Oal Gown in "Overlord", he also Voiced Cooler in the DBZ abridged series. A Coloured diamond of a VA if i may say. He has quite the royalty sounding voice, which fits perfectly for characters such as Ainz.
So, let me explain the zombies. In Hellsing, when a vampire bites someone that person turns into a ghoul, a living corpse under the vampire's control. The only way for a vampire to create another vampire is to bite a virgin of the opposite sex.

Hellsing is one of my all time favorite animes. It is a true master piece. You guys should really watch all of the anime and then watch the abridged. It's amazing

The creators were doing these two at the same time as DBZA. This was their "we get to do the darker jokes that don't tonally fit DBZA" as a yearly Halloween special.
Honestly I think it benefitted from the slower release because they gave themselves longer to write, Scott continuously improved his editing and picked up voice talent.

That vampire folklore is incorrect in the context of this anime, as the other guy said. To further explain, a person drained by a vampire will become a ghoul unless they are a member of the opposite sex and a virgin. This is why the vampire priest at the beginning made it a point to announce what he was going to do to Seras BEFORE he killed her...to ensure she wasn't a virgin so she'd become a ghoul rather than a vampire.

part of the context with the guns they use: the Jackal pistol Alucard uses ended up being too powerful of a gun for a normal person to be able to use. so its perfect for him and his vampire strength cus he can handle the recoil. which is why Seras has the anti-tank rifle as well. they go into more detain in the original anime but they touch on it in Hellsing Ultimate
