Fantastic looking car 🤩…. As a fellow 2003 R230 SL500 owner I agree with everything you’ve said. Maintenance is the key. I bought mine 3yrs ago with a full service history and like you I immediately had the ABC fluid and filter flushed and changed along with a gearbox service. Whilst you have to accept that the running costs will never be cheap on this type of car, when you consider the ridiculously low purchase price, (putting aside a few grand as a repair fund and keeping it topped up just in case) then you have a brilliant GT car that will turn heads wherever you go for Ford Focus money 👍
Thanks! They're wonderful cars right? Hope you're enjoying yours. That's exactly right, I knew what I was potentially getting into with these but it was just something that had to be done! So far loving it!
Great content, I have a 53 plate SL55 with 43k on the clock and absolutely love it. Looking to sort the wheels next could you share where you got yours done. I am very close to you looking at where you shoot your videos.
I have an SL350 2004, man. I would never sell it. it is so fun to drive on a sunny day, painted I china blue, apple carplay screen, E63 2023 rims, all that good stuff. Deleted muffler. Tbh SL55 would be a money pit and I am not the guy that drives fast much, just enjoy a cruise. but definitely those benz's are one of the most beautiful cars ever made, good luck fam!
@@TABonTV oh yeah 👍 today went for a cruise with the top down Was so fun These models 2001-2008 best SL’s ever made or most beautiful I should say. Like you. 🙈 #NoDiddy
Hi, Enjoyed your video a lot. I just bought an SL55 from 2006 with 43000 miles on the clock. Can you please recommend a good specialist in London area to get all those preventive things done you recommended please Thanks
Thanks! Great cars right? My best advice to you here would be to get on the FB SL groups - there's a few but such a helpful community. Sure they'd be able to advise on well located indie garages!
Nice , a few other things to replace if you want it to be 100% ..crankshaft position sensor , transmission connector bushing and conductor plate , and the coolant reservoir.. best to use OEM parts and replace the coolant with the correct blue coolant.
Thanks! The crankshaft sensor was already done in the history. Found out the gearbox inhibitor was also replaced too! Next up are engine mounts / transmission mount.
Glad to see you're tackling all the jobs to get it sorted ;) I'm looking out for an SL350 - more so no expensive ABC issues to deal with. I must say I'm tempted by an SL55 though! lol :-D Do you have a link for that gear selector part? I can't seem to find one! Many thanks
For me it was the SL55 or nothing (hopefully it behaves). Good luck in your search. If you go to that very well known online auction site try item ID 264524110815 👍🏻
Diamond I only used in summer lasted 10+ years. but those powder coated look decent if not better than diamond - diamonds getting a bit family car nowadays
Might be worth having a quick look at your BCM just to make sure there is no charring see - ua-cam.com/video/Ts9r_O8dNVM/v-deo.html The powder coated wheels look great - you reminded me to get mine sorted. Mike
Yeah, I the BCM is still good in this, the whole boot / hood area is very clean & tidy so I don't think it's ever had any leaks (🤞🏻!). Appreciate the comment.
@@TABonTV Phew...remember, that the BCM can get fried if anyone has ever attempted to jump start the car incorrectly...or has constantly let the consumer battery run down.....or has used a cheap trickle charger...it is not necessarily damp/leaks that kill it...Mike
I have had 2 off these one in brilliant silver and one in jasper blue i know these things in side out and that M113K engine i now own a mint Japanese import E55 AMG with no rust I hate rust its like cancer on a car and will come back if i could find a mint SL55 AMG i would have that with my E55..I have a little utube channel ..Mercedes AMG Man ...
Excellent! I'm such a fan of these cars! Yeah, unfortunately it's getting harder to get UK spec ones without the dreaded brown stuff (or that have been previously repaired). For me the spec and colour was what won!
. Went with his hiro Coil overs.. Just just replace these struts and have the liquid drain out of it I didn't worry about the rest of that abc system and I'll tell you something it's a little bit faster and it handles much better! .. The difference in the ride I can't remember it it's where the market really small,, Do not get the old man's mode I think you will be disappointed I drive it at the sport mode and the difference is just negligible.. Race cars require sway bars I didn't notice it in my driving time... I wonder whether the cell value will go up I doubt it?
basically a pointless video, you changed a few fluids, a latch or two and a couple of belts for 1500 £ im not sure what sort of an insight you tried to provide but i learnt, well, not much but thanks anyway

Need to sort my SL55 and SL600 out soon. Nice vid. 👍🏼👌
Now that's a fine selection of SL! Appreciate the comment.
What was the purchase price?

Is it worth buying in 2024?
10:42 Hi great looking SL55. Can you mention the name of the body shop people you used for the rust & paint? Many thanks.
Thanks. Add me on IG, and I'll hook you up there. 👍🏻

Wheels look great. It’s funny how chunky the back of the steering wheel is but I think a lot of Mercs are like that.
Yeah, good job! And yes, the wheel does look a bit silly from that angle, a bit too cone like 😂
Thanks for all the comments

Lovely color that, what is it?
