As I understand it, this is originally a song that John recorded as a solo. It was ingeniously adapted into a duet with his precious friend Olivia for this concert. Masterful.
Getting close to 3 months since we lost Olivia and it is still surreal. Her love & light and talent still shine so brightly. Now John has been in his own cancer battle. Two great friends who were pure magic together. The whole concert is wonderful. I was so lucky to see her on her last concert tour in 2017. Still beautiful, in great voice and ever full of grace & gratitude. We lost such a special soul.
🥰This is from 🫶The Main Event 💜that toured Australia.🇦🇺Check his interaction 👍with Anthony Warlow 🫶in the song Grenada.🥰His stage presence is adsorbing, 🤞and his antics are hilarious.💜💗💕💜💗💕💜💗💕💜💗💕
Their voices complement each other in this performance. The chemistry between these two is legendary, they were great friends for such a long time. RIP Olivia
Farnsie and ONJ have been best of friends for ever....its hard to not watch this and get emotional knowing ONJ is sadly no longer with us...but this song with them together is simply stunning..they are both national treasures and loved so much !!
What a beautiful number from these two, and with Olivia now gone and John possibly unable to perform again , videos like this are all we will have to make do with. In closing, God bless them both. 😇😇
This was from an amazing concert called the Main Event with 3 of the best singers and Australian performers I have ever seen. John Olivia and Anthony Warlow. John was supporting both Olivia and Anthony who where recovering from cancer at the time. Olivia had said in an interview that she thought her career was over until John asked her to join him for this concert. Another great performance from that concert is John and Anthony singing a comical version of Grenada which shows not only an operatic ability on his his voice but also his funny side.
Ikr!!! Brings me to tears every time I hear livvy & John sing this together now that livvy is gone.. It's a very emotional song, he actually released this bk in 1981 as a solo but as a duo singing it makes it more phenomenal.. John & livvy have always been great friends, coz John is married..❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰
They never dated or anything...... but just like most Australian artists they truly loved each other and supported each other.... we are a small country (population wise) so that support is absolutely needed and warranted xx
The funny thing is it was written by Graham Goble as was a lot of the stuff on that album and after Glenn Shorrock left LRB (Little River Band) shortly afterward Graham brought John in as the replacement lead singer.
John and Olivia were very close friends. They both grew up in Melbourne and ran into each other at gigs. You have to react to John singing 'Burn For You' which he recorded about how his beloved wife, Jill, had problems with his performance absences.
They both around the same age and done theatre and plays Seeing you said it sounded like angel's Your next song from him should be singing angel's with Lisa Edwards his back up singer live If you haven't done it yet You'll see John real personality Cheers lady's 🇦🇺
Yeah, that one gets me too, ladies, and I'm a grumpy old Aussie bloke. They worked beautifully together and their lifelong friendship shone through in this performance. There are a few to choose from in this concert, including with Australian tenor Anthony Warlow. He and John do a comedic version of Granada which is another highlight. Nice review.
Thank you for your reaction. Both John and Olivia are experienced "Singer-Actors" having performed in musical theatre, so their stage presence is phenomenal. This performance will go down in history as one of the best duet stage songs of all time.
If you like this one I think you would love John singing Angels with his back up singer Lisa Edwards. It's a masterclass in vocals and shows his quirky personality and stage presence.
Best reaction for this song ladies. Well done. John and Olivia were great friends for 55 years, since they were teenagers. In fact John was one of the last people she spoke to before she died. I think it might have even been the last phone call she ever took in fact. They did love each other, deeply, as far as I know, just friends.
That was a lovely, heart-felt reaction. I enjoyed watching it. You might like to try their duet ""Dare to Dream"" at the Sydney 2000 Olympics Opening Ceremony. It was magical.
That kiss at the end was clear evidence of the strong affection they had for each other. This affection will be continued when they are both together again on the other side. RIP Olivia, we will always love you.
Never heard this song before. Great duet. I'm enjoying discovering John Farnham's music. During her career, Olivia had many great duet partners. I've always loved Olivia Newton -john's music. I grew up with her music.I was very saddened this past August when I heard the news of Olivia's passing after a long battle with cancer. She was such a great singer with a sweet, angelic, voice. She started out as a country singer and made the transition to rock. She started to make that transition in the movie Grease. Grease is my all-time favorite movie/musical. I must have seen the movie at least 50 times which starred Olivia Newton-john and John Travolta. One of the the major highlights from the movie is Olivia singing "Hopelessly Devoted You. It is one her signature songs and I'd love for you to react to it. Other great Olivia Newton-John songs to react to are "Physical", "I honestly Love You", "Have You Never Been Mellow", "Magic", Xanadu, Her duet with John Travolta "You're The One That I Want" her duet with Cliff Richard "Suddenly" and her duet with Andy Gibb "I Can't Help It".
I always get tears when I see this video of John and Olivia, about 5 years ago, my cousin asked me to accompany her in a performance of this song, both of us were crying so hard, we were barely able to finish it. Thanks for playing it.
You spoke of Angels, maybe react to John singing "Angels" with his back up singer, Lisa Edwards. Beautiful. Another worth a look is "Amazing Grace", with 2 of his other backing singers, Venetta Fields and Lindsay Field, no relation. Bring tissues. There are some must do reactions, Vanessa Amarosi opening the Sydney Olympics live with "Heroes Live Forever", around 800 (OK I exaggerated a tiny bit) octaves! Others have tried that song, no-one gets near. Follow that up IMMEDIATELY with Vanessa singing pure soul, "Natural Woman" with Dave Stewart (ex Eurythmics) to show her astonishing range. 2 absolute knock-out songs.
The voices, the friendship and the loss. Many people can identify with the lost love idea, being true to commitments already made but still treasuring the feeling. A great reaction to a fabulous performance.
Oh my musical theater love is firing on all cylinders. They were just lovely together (RIP Olivia). You are right, the blend was magnificent. I have heard John do this with Little River Band, and on his own. Besides their talent, some of the chemistry is from their friendship. It seems like they could easily adapt to each other and share vulnerability.
They certainly bring a tear to the eye of this old grumpy Aussie , another song you need to hear is John's rendition of GETHSEMANE from the rock opera JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR ,make sure you have your tissues handy .
Loved watching your reactions ladies to such a beautiful song performed so brilliantly by two very special performers... Thank you! :) I'm a guy and I was a sook, (with tears in my eyes), listening to this performance also. :)
A gorgeous song and Stunning performance by both ❤️. So sad that the wonderful Olivia is no longer with us 😢 pls pls can you add Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa singing Stone Cold to your list if you haven’t already. It’s incredible. 😊
The Main Event concert was amazing with Olivia, John and Anthony Warlow. Olivia and John have been friends for decades and really enjoy singing together. You should listen to John and Anthony singing Granada, it’s operatic and funny! Great reaction ladies, thank you. RIP Olivia, get well soon John!
Olivia was so great! Maybe you could do her song, 'Sam". It was my favorite song by her when I was in high school. It's the one that made us fall in love with her. My favorite is her live performance in 1976. The one with her wearing the pretty blue dress. She looks and sounds so lovely in that performance. The video titled "Sam A Special Olivia Newton John"
Yes!! Me too. She sings that song soooooooooooo sweet! It gets me everytime! All of us boys in school imagined our name was Sam and that she was singing directly to us, lol.
What a lovely reaction ladies. We Aussies feel the same way. The song that followed this in "The Main Event" concert was John & Olivia performing "You're the one that I want" from Grease, the clip is on you tube. Here you see the other side of John we Aussies also love, the comedian or as we lovingly term "the larrikin". You must also listen to the song John is best known for, his signature anthem "You're the voice" the version with the MSO is the best. Best Wishes
Farnham has done some brilliant duets. With Ray Charles (Imagine), Anthony Warlow, Laura Branigan (I Want To Know What Love Is), and the incredible When Something Is Wrong With My Baby with Jimmy Barnes. Barnes himself has done some amazing duets such as You're The Best with Tina Turner and his most recent recording, Soothe Me with Sam Moore.
This concert "The Main Event" was performed by John Farnham, Anthony Warlow and Olivia Newton John and you could react to any of the songs from this concert and you'd be blown away. You know John and Olivia, Anthony Warlow is a masterful theatre performer and known for his performance in Phantom of the Opera among others. Check out 'High Art' from this concert, cheers
Great reaction ladies, They are great performer’s even better together. The 2 reactions you have on John are great however you have just started,I can honestly say I have never seen a bad performance, John puts in a hundred percent in every performance, I believe his best is When the is over with MSO 2003 he was 53 at the time 😊
Yes magical and so very beautiful, John had a huge hit with this himself and he asked Olivia if she would do this on their tour with Anthony Warlow as well performing, and as you can see the attraction was wonderful too see. They were great friends and this performance now brings tears with the sudden loss of our beautiful Olivia "Livvy" as she was known here in Australia. Now we await John's recovery from Jaw Cancer with hopes one day we may again hear him sing it is not likely but with recovery and all the love and support we can only hope. TY Ladies for your reaction to 2 of the all time beautiful souls from Asutralia Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘❤❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶🎶
Hi again ladies, another great reaction. You've seen power ballad John and now duet John. Maybe you'd like different suggestions. As I said before, everyone has their favourites so I'm going to leave you to choose or ignore. I love seeing John's diverse personalities so there is Trio John doing Amazing Grace live with Vanetta Fields and Lindsay Field, his 2 long time backing singers. Or maybe lovestruck John singing Burn for You that he wrote for his wife Jill. There is also silly John singing Angel's with Lisa Edwards another longtime backup singer. Or maybe Broadway John singing Gethsemane from the musical Jesus's Christ Superstar. Finally there is opera John with Anthony Warlow another great Aussie singer doing Granada. I don't expect you to do all of these because it is Your Choice. They are all great and shows his diverse talents. I've had a couple of dinners with him and my best friend who was also a singer and had a TV Show with John. He is just an ordinary great guy with an extraordinary talent. No we are not friends I've just had the pleasure of a couple of private dinners with my singer friend of over 40 years. Choosing John's favourite songs is like choosing your favourite child. It can't be done.
2 great Australian singers. It's truly a beautiful song they sing and sadly Olivia Newton John just passing away and John Farnham very sing with possible throat cancer
Just perfect, magical.❤ Olivia and John were such good friends, you can see the chemistry between them. Olivia said she always wanted to sing with John. This concert was called The Main Event and it was one of the best I've ever been to. Anthony Warlow, a musical theatre legend here in Australia was the third artist featured. Do yourselves a favor and check it out, it's fantastic. Lovely reaction.
Have not even scratched the surface of Farnsey's talent. Can sing any song from any era and any genre. Has many collaborations, try John and Jimmy Barns - When Something is wrong with my baby, I want to know what love is with Laura Brannigan, Try a little tenderness with Tom Jones, Angels with Lisa Edwards and Imagine with the great Ray Charles.
Love this duet as it shows how beautifully their voices blend together. This was in a concert called “the main event”. It also starred another fantastic singer called Anthony Warlow. You should react to John and Anthony singing Granada, as you get to see how versatile John is, as he can sing any style and shows their comedic side. Great reaction❤️
This was written by Graham Goble who was a founding member and one of the primary songwriters of the Little River Band who John was the lead singer of for a few years - they are well worth a look as they had about 10 or so top 10 hits in the US in the 70's/early 80's.
Loved your genuine reaction to this beautiful performance. You two are great. Superb voices. This is John's song, recorded I think just before his career really took off again in the 80s. This performance was from The Main Event a brilliant series of concerts with John, Olivia and Anthony Warlow (Australia's Phantom). It is an absolutely stunning concert. John and Olivia were good friends and this was Olivia's return from her second bout of cancer. They sang together at the 2000 Sydney Olympic opening ceremony (Dare to Dream) and recorded a Christmas album together a few years back as well as some other live performances. John has musical theatre experience Pippin and Jesus Christ Superstar) and of course, Olivia's film experience and together they put on a rather convincing performance. Very moving. John has been married to his wife Jill for well over 40 years and you might like to listen to his tribute song to her - Burn For You.
John & Livvie had been mates for more that 55 years. Although there had never been a physical relationship between them, they comfortably performed together many times.
As I understand it, this is originally a song that John recorded as a solo. It was ingeniously adapted into a duet with his precious friend Olivia for this concert. Masterful.
100% correct… from the album Uncovered (1980).
John & Olivia…. We’re friends from way back when they Started their careers in the Late 60’s …. So the chemistry between them is easy and natural.
It's better as a duet
Getting close to 3 months since we lost Olivia and it is still surreal. Her love & light and talent still shine so brightly. Now John has been in his own cancer battle. Two great friends who were pure magic together. The whole concert is wonderful. I was so lucky to see her on her last concert tour in 2017.
