Have two, P03R koa limited (2013) and an OM-50 I have had for close to 20 years. Great instruments, been tempted by Martin and others, don’t really see the need to change, they just sound better every year and the OM is starting to visually age beautifully. Try them if you get the chance 😎
true, but Larrivee guitars are amazing I have a D02 (that was the lowest price available at the time) and stands up to any Martin D18 (that costs twice as much)
17.40 - That jam is just lovely. It's got Norman Blake, Doc Watson all over it. Just lush. Chapeau chaps, chapeau. It's watching stuff like that that makes me want to keep trying to get better at playing.
yay, i have an OMO3Z brilliant guitar. i have 11 guitars at the moment, the larrivee is right up there with the best. it is without a doubt the best build quality of any guitar, i have a 66 gibson j45 that looks like a glue bomb went off inside, the larrivee looks like it had a whole crew of quality control guys working 24/7 - the top is FLAT, the finish (satin) is almost erotic in places, and the inside is only beaten by lame horse (they inlay the insides of their guitars). while i'm here, as you turn the guitar in the light, the light and dark stripes swap over the colours shift.
Larivvees from Vancouver and now cali. i love mine great guitar he is a master and many people who worked in the vancouver factory have gone on to become luthiers and build their own small run handmade guitars... Larivees are truly amazing - and many can be found used for under $800. treat yourself resale might not be as quick as martin or gibson... but you wont want to sell it. note - they are not brash and loud - you gotta hit it hard to get a punchy rhythm track
Great video guys. Please try to include what type of strings are on the demo guitars when you do the vids. I have a Larrivee D-03 and it makes a difference what strings you use, although they really are beautiful guitars.
I've got the OM3Z, lovely guitar, decided I also needed a Martin, so bought a new OM21, but after four months the Martin is shortly going up for sale, just prefer the Larrivee, not a big acoustic player but the Larivee is giving me the desire to play more.
Yeah - Larrivée Guitars. Great quality, great playing guitars. They do pretty good electrics as well. And "pluckin' along to someone singin' in the background" just made my day :-)
I’m a very proud owner of the LV-O3R for 12 years now. I wouldn’t trade it for anything yet. Only little problem is the 9V battery case is installed inside the body making it cumbersome when replacing it. I guess Larrivee have addressed this now.
Maybe its me but I think due to the size of the guitar that Pete's sounds richer..maybe a bit brighter. Cool beans guys thanks. The strumming sound is my favorite.
Played a dreadnought-shaped Larrivee once (don't remember the model name) which had a cedar top. I'm more into Gibson-type guitars personally, but I actually rather enjoyed it, having never tried on of their guitars before - had a very punchy, woody tone to it. Preferred it to the Martin D-28 they they had in the shop costing about x2 as much! Was pleasantly surprised by it.
OK, this is obviously another excellent inclusion for a Parlor Guitar shoot-out with the Gretsch Roots, Martin and others. Should be nice to see how they stand up to these :D
Realistically how many nylon stringed guitars do they sell to non beginners? As good as these videos are and for all their entertainment value they are still adverts. If somebody wants a nylon stringed guitar they know and don't need anyone to sell it too them.
Larrivée are the best value guitars at the moment. I have never played a bad one although sometimes they need a tweak to get action right. I would probably tweak action on any guitar. Larrivée only make solid body guitars and the ebony fretboards are so far in front of any other options. Once you go ebony nothing else is right.
I've tried Martin's, Gibson Hummingbirds, Songwriter Deluxe, L-00 etc., I've tried Maton's and Taylor guitars, i've owned a Lakewood guitar, but nothing compares to a Larrivee in my taste, especially the L-series with the custom Larrivee bodyshape.
@@brettgarlick5252 The OM is like most OMs while the L is sort of a mix between an OM and a Dread. But the main importance is that both the OM and L are excellent guitars. I adore both shapes and series. My advice would be to go try them out if you can.
I have one o3 it is a very nice guitar it has a sound that sets it apart from other guitar it’s easy to play and very lite my only complaint that I have with it is the dots on the fretboard they are to small and made out of brass in a live performance with lights going off and on it is hard to see the markers on the neck because there brass and don’t show up well under certain lighting I feel if they were bigger and made with a white aura or something that shows up in different light settings would push it to another level other than that it sounds beautiful and looks great to mine does not have a pick guard this is the way it came I think it would do better with one because some times when I play it I can hear the sounds from my fingers hitting the front of the face of the guitar I believe I will have a pick guard put on the face of my guitar and hope that fixes the problem I em very glad I bought it and very satisfied with everything else to me it sounds as good as a Martin without the weight I recommend people to try one although they can be pricey I em a avid player and would not think twice walking into a recording studio with this instrument thank you very much for building such renowned guitar I put it up against Gibson Graach fender and Martin
About ten years ago I had a Larrivee P-03 but with mahogany back and sides. I never really bonded with it though, and it never sounded as good as the one in this vid. Something to do with the player maybe.....?
If Denmark is such a happy place (which I certainly agree it is, and agree with Pete's rationale), then why the heck did Pete ever leave? I rather wish I could go there.
Getting a Martin these days is like buying a Rolex. Damn good guitars like Rolex is a damn great watch but a good chunk of the price is the fact that people will instantly recognize is and think something of the person that has it. This isn't a criticism of Martin, but there are a couple of guitar makers that are right up there w/ them now. That being said, I will always own a Martin because due to the name recognition they really are investment pieces. Larrivee makes a guitar just as good IMO, but even a lot of really good guitar players will have never heard of the brand. That's either a good thing or a bad thing depending on perspective. Just like a Patek Phillipe watches are beautiful, but you have to know a certain segment will look at it and think "why didn't he get a Rolex?" hah I feel it's the same w/ the non name quality guitar brands. (Bad example for a few reasons, I know, but you get the idea) One thing that has always bothered me about Larrivee is the logo kind of sucks. I really like a plain logo, but Martin looks great because it actually fits the brand perfectly. Larivee really could step it up there. I know it's not the biggest thing in the world, but when you're spending a pretty penny on a guitar I want it to look really nice. For me that starts w/ the logo. I wish they'd step that up.
Larrivee is the most under-rated acoustic guitar company ever.
Absolutely the best bang for the buck instruments out there.
Apart from Yairi
5 years later, does this opinion still stand?
@@bjornegan6421 Yes. They're still great guitars.

Larrivee is hands down my favorite acoustic guitar maker
I have a 2004 D-05 and it is certainly a wonderful guitar. :-)
Yeah me too . I have owned Gibson's and Martins but my 2 Larrivees are my only Forever guitars. Im going to check out another on boxing day too 😃
Yep. They are grossly underrated. Wish they would've reviewed an L series.
Love how effortlessly these guys play..I could listen for hours..
I love the musical chemistry between these guys!
Just bought a Larrivee L-03 and am in complete love with it.
Do you still have it? I have the rosewood model on the way
@@SteveMiller-yw7kv I actually have 2 now.
Nice!
I think Mick and Pete can make any guitar sound amazing tbh
true, but Larrivee guitars are amazing I have a D02 (that was the lowest price available at the time) and stands up to any Martin D18 (that costs twice as much)
Larrivee are Amazing guitars though.
Just ordered an OM 40 Legacy to go with my D40 Legacy. Larrivee makes an amazing guitar.
@16:30 - I love it. Pete didn't want to interrupt such a beautiful sound for fear of being rude to Jean Larrivee! :)
I love your videos guys, really refreshing, new faces and playing, laid back, informative, funny, awesome gear, perfect! keep it up! :)
The best intros to Andertons videos are from Mick and Pete.
These two guitars pair so perfectly my god
Always bring a smile to my face , Thanks Guys !!
Another great video, and yes - that OM really does sound lovely on all sorts of playing!
Great video, great playing, great guitars. What more could I ask for. Thanks!
Is it just me or can they make any guitar sound amazing!!
maybe but Larrivee is far from "any guitar". Even Tommy Emmanuel has been converted to it
So when is Pete & Mick's tour starting?
17.40 - That jam is just lovely. It's got Norman Blake, Doc Watson all over it. Just lush. Chapeau chaps, chapeau. It's watching stuff like that that makes me want to keep trying to get better at playing.
The playing in this video was great! These guitars sound so good!
Just bought a 1997 LJ 09 Larrivee,,,,,,,fabulous sound and player. Up there with the big boys all day long. All for less than 2K.
Beautiful and simple headstocks. What a great looking guitars

That's heartening to hear, as a Larrivee owner who has been looking at silly expensive Martin's!

do either of you guys have any solo videos while you're playing? I'd love to listen to either of you play.
You guys need a little bonfire to accompany these acoustic videos ;)
omggg i would love love love love love to strum on that . sooo professional like soft
Definitely need to buy it Pete! What's summer without a sexy new acoustic guitar?! Buy, buy, buy

If you want a European guitar that is "right up in there" *giggle* check out Furch and Stonebridge (same company)
my Furch is horrible, so id play it first instead of trusting your dealer with an order.
Will you guys be doing a Maton acoustic review anytime soon?
Just plain.......SWEET!
Beautiful guitar!
If you like French Canadian quality, you should look into Boucher Acoustics. They are stunning!

Question for Pete. Did you get that guitar?
I picked up a 2005 omv 05 series mahogany top guitar and it's now my picker.
I have a pre owned L10
Not a mark on it! Lovely guitar!
I absolutely love you guys! Larrivee LV-10 here! Lyric pickup... Stunning... sound... amazing! Sorry Gibson...
Larrivee started in British Columbia!
+GuitarPartho Began in Toronto before moving to Victoria B.C. and then California. Said to be maybe building guitars in B.C. again soon.

And resonators maybe

Larrivees = Love!
Nice vid, chaps!
I have a Taylor 814CE which is like $2000 more than the OM-03z and I don't think it sounds anywhere as good.... god damn it.
taylor sucks you in with pretty then you get bored Larrivee is the real deal..
For me .... Nothing... I said nothing! Come close to larrivée.... Those guitars have something special in them....

Guy on the left is from the pedal show right? And on right used to demo martin guitars correct?
That intro song was great.

Bright lights, big city.
Guys, it's the "They Bros" - kinda like the Koch Bros, but in terms of social situations. "They" comment on lots of things :)
next Acoustic Paradiso can you guys use a guitar slide
that parlor is as close as it gets to an Ed Sheeran custom 00
might have to get this a look
Larivees are great....not easy to find in America....
They're made in America, so they're probably easier to find there than anywhere else.
Pete was very prophetic at 7:20… Anderton’s no longer sells Larrivee. Too bad.
They should start a band.
