Had to do this myself once, i beat 3 Stacks of Bretonnia with only Morathi and 4 beat up Shades. Thank God Leon was not in there or it would have been another Story.

More recently he's been talking about the advantages of hiding a large part of your army. Now I'm seeing several disaster battles where he emphasizes putting your heroes/lord far in front of the rest of your army so the AI focuses on them instead of bypassing them. It's like a classroom of Total War, where he provides a lesson and then provides several demonstrations of its practical uses, ending with a demonstration of its flaws leading to the next lesson.

Exactly, it didn't seem at all like a disaster battle. I would have probably being able to win this without much casualties, and I'm really far from having the skill of Legend.

Maybe a noob question, but how can I add other magic heros (or how are they called) to my stack? I seem to just be able to have gelt or karl franz and then 19 regular units. This way I don't seem to have any magic at all. What am I missing in order to do that?

You actually only have to know how the AI will behave, not much how to set up your formation. I mean I could figure out if I am blocking my artillery from shooting and sort that out quickly, but to figure out that enemy will blob on my four heroes if they are far away from the army would take a lot more time.

If they have a pregame option to toggle off minor settlement battles in 3, similar to chaos invasion difficulty in 2, will Legend play with it on or off?
So as a frontline, for Empire, is better x4 Warrior Priest, or x4 Steam Tank? In a setup like this, with all the rest being artillery and ranged units.
I'd argue that the Emperor's Wrath x4 would be even better than base STs, and make up for the fact the base ST isn't a hero and have the crowd control a hero would. Base steam tanks are good, but not *that* good. It's worth some testing however, it really depends on the player and formation as well. In this exact setup however, you wouldn't be able to put the tanks in front due to their significantly larger profile, and potentially being prone to friendly fire from the Hellstorms. The Terrain makes or breaks the Steam Tanks here.
That's not even a battle. A doomstack armor piercing distance+ explosive distance + legendary lord vs basic army foot soldier Dwarves claim the right to have at least catapults!
@LegendofTotalWar, I was wondering, as the campaign progresses and you find yourself against armies with fast movers, is it better for the warrior priests to be mounted, so they can respond faster, even though that makes them bigger targets? Cheers

just a small question- Why do you put Handgunners behind Crossbowman?... I mean Crossbows can arc their shots while Handgunners can't.
lowest value units go up front. high value in the back. arcing the shots wasn't going to be a problem because there wasn't much congestion
