Just test drove both before buying the Picanto GT line S, the Picanto just felt so much more nippy, the I10n felt fat and more stable, so much more kit in the Gt line than the I10n feels very much like Hyundai got cheap on the interior, I was hoping for more with the I10n but tbh I was very much underwhelmed with it, in the end getting the GT line S was an easy choice....
I really liked your video, your captures and edition are great I already have a Picanto GT Line and I continue loving it, thanks for doing this video, it helps a lot even talking about german versions.
I drive a 2018 Picanto with the standard 4cyl 1.2L motor and a 4 speed auto. It's a great handling and practical car, but is underpowered on normal 91 octane fuel. I use 98 octane now and it's much better but it's still not what I would consider as sporty. It's a small city car basically. It is quite economical but having only 4 speed auto instead of 5, the motor revs too fast at 110km/hr, the maximum legal speed here in Australia and economy takes a hit. You can see this on the display where you get an option for an instantaneous L/100km reading. It's much happier at 100km/hr. I would like to swap it for the three cylinder turbo with manual gear change. Most of the shortcomings of the standard Picanto would be overcome imho. It has a bit more power but a big gain in torque, and then there's the manual gear change. My recommendation if you are going for a Picanto: go for the three cylinder manual, it will be so much more fun!
Thanks for your review of the Kia Picanto and Hyundai i10. Unfortunately we don't get the Hyundai i10 in Australia. From the owners of an extremely reliable 2004 Hundai Getz. [we use the Getz mainly for shopping as second car.] Melbourne Australia. (2023)
I have the GT line s picanto and love it.I do prefer the interior of the i10 but the gen before the new pics to looks better.Fun car to drive and in the UK the GT line s comes with sun roof and wireless charging and heated steering wheel. The new version dosent have the sun roof which is a shame.
Very comprehensive review and you wouldn't make a mistake by choosing either of these cars. Here in the UK the Picanto is quite a bit cheaper than the i10 so that may tip the balance for many potential buyers, especially as the Kia has a more youthful, sporty image. A beef here - why do ALL reviewers and motoring journalists refer to the cars' head RESTRAINTS as head RESTS? You don't rest your head on them - they are there to RESTRAIN and protect your head against whiplash in the unfortunate event of a collision.
I've bought a 21 plate (2021) Kia Picanto GT-Line S "Bumblebee" (special edition last run of the pre-facelift model which is a 1.0l turbo but uprated to the 118bhp like the Rio; it's good for 0 - 62 in 8.4 seconds, so a warm hatch as opposed to a hot hatch). Great fun to drive, sporty, direct and stable
Got the 1.2 kia picanto 2021 4 cylinder GT line with 8" android auto/carplay (comes fully packed including Xenon headlights start stop ISG keyless entry etc) and looks awesome.
I can’t decide! I love the petite size and practicality of the picanto , but I prefer the look and the properties the the the Hyundai has - would you say it’s worth the extra money to buy the Hyundai?
Hi thoroughly enjoyed the review, I'm curious to know if there's a great deal of difference in driving the N-Line and the 1.2 i10? I've short listed this car but wondered if going for the turbo has any real advantage over the 1.2, although I do like the look of the N-Line.
Many thanks for watching the video. I also drove the 1.2 version and there is a huge difference, indeed. The turbo engine is by far quicker and does offer a more agile and dynamic feeling. If you are not only driving in urban areas, it might be worth it in my opinion.
@@asiaautoambassador9810 I had a turbo charger on my Q5.TFSi. I will not buy a car with turbo again, well only if it comes with a compressor is acceptable. Having said this, buying a car with a turbo is a money pit. 1.2 AMT is acceptable and much enjoyable.
There is huge difference, driving with 1.2 is like driving underwater in comparison to 1.0 Turbo. Of course 1.2 is going to be more immune to passing time and less breakable in general.
We have a 2018 Picanto GT line-S with the TGdi engine and it's good fun to drive. It's fairly brisk but not really a GT, although it is half a second faster to 62 mph than the Hyundai. If only Kia had kept the more powerful tune of this engine which develops 118 bhp in the RIO. The interior is very nicely finished and feels like a more expensive car. The lack of a delay wipe at the rear is a major annoyance though.
Why do reviewers always review the Picanto GT/Line/X with 16" wheeels and vinyl seats? Its tacky and gaudi and has bad reflections from the non black trim inserts. The 3 spec is the best one. The i10 is very dull compared to the Picanto. Notice that both the Picanto and i10 have spare wheel wells but come with a pump and a can of goo! Get the space saver wheel with jack kit for £85 on ebay.
I wish more superminis would take the Yaris (GR Sport) route and add bigger car tech. There also needs to be an auto option! Hyundai i10N Performance 😎
I drive the latest version of the Twingo GT but Renault no longer sell it here in the UK so I am considering buying either a Picanto GT or Hyundai N-line in about a year's time. I agree with you that the Hyundai seems the better option although they are very closely matched.
@Del Boy Thank you for this and I hope you enjoy the new car. I think I will opt for the Picanto when the time comes to change for the reasons you give. However, I am disappointed with Renault for pulling out of the city car market as I have been buying new cars from them for 28 years and am reluctant to leave the brand.
@@briangriffiths114 GT line S for me was so much better, the I10n was such a let down for me, interior for me is night and day difference between the 2 for me the I10n feeling very cheap and all plastic, plus who puts old heating dials in a top of the range car,
@@Slobberdog57 Thank you for this, Kevin. Since I made my original comment, the Hyundai i-10 has had a poor result for the NCAP crash test (only 3 stars) due to a submarining issue with the driver's seatbelt which has put me off it. My Twingo GT has a very low mileage so I may keep it for a fifth year and hope the GT Line S is still available after that.

Purchased a Picanto GT line 2021 with D type steering wheel instead after visiting the kia showroom and seeing and examining Picanto GT line model variant myself.. I agree that i10 is more spacious for rear passengers (probably by no more than 2.5cm) but GT line is a like a Picasso painting. 7 years warranty for Kia vs 5 years for Hyundai. In my mind Kia Wins. It is good to hear experts opinion but why dont you take decision and give a winner ??? I will not mention that it also depends on the factory and problems with labour (protests) or factory location and its history of quality cars or not. Korea vs Turkey. Perception can be a decisive factor :). but Design and Technology as offered in a particular model variant (package with more options and design choices) as offered in a a localized market can help one decide and make a choice. ok I lost knee space for the rear passengers, and I have to learn to live by this shortcoming. But wait, according to KIA Picanto specs for GT line it is 2670 in length same as Hyundai i10 (this is is contrary to what I have listened in other videos reviews). Confused?? I am getting a facelift model with most problems rectified..1.2 engine 4 cylinder and transmission is same for both models (i10 and picanto). My two cents. CThe clear winner for 1.2 variant auto is Picanto GT line.
Confusing AF as to what car is what! The GT line in Australia is the 4 cylinder and the GT is the 3 cylinder turbo. Even my dealer appeared confused when I ordered last week. If I wait five months and a 4 cylinder turns up they’ll get a whole world of embarrassment 🤣
@@asiaautoambassador9810 On looking more closely at UK i10 car interiors it does look as if Climate control is standard but the specs given are very poor at stating this fact
4 stars for Picanto vs 3 stars for i10, but Hyundai in 2021 is including more standard safety features I believe but is lucking the design and GT line package of Picanto and external looks. My GT-line came with emergency brake assist only (no lane assist or adaptive cruse control).
I had my test drive in Picanto GT 2022 with automatic gearbox last week, and it was awful 😖 filling , like you drive manual gearbox car.
