One of the most beautiful renderings of this piece. Quite often it is played fast, but to me it should convey tranquility and that's exactly what this rendering does.
YES! This is the only version I listen to.
It has been confirmed...Nathan Chan is a deer god...
That deer needs to eat a cheeseburger
i can play this too, i bet many others can, but no one has the amount of passion and emotion this kid has in music. keep playing
why are there deer in every freaking video of Nathan chan
Clara Chan has ADHD
one of the best versions so far! very beautiful, thanks a lot..
Simply Beautiful! Thank you Nathan for this video.
Just beautiful. Light, perfectly pace and with all the depth and emotion wanted. Thank you.
I love the sound coming from your cello when you play. Love your version on the Bach Prelude. Just perfect.
Beauuutiful, love how it’s filmed tooo
2020
beautiful, just beautiful
Beautiful!
To my untrained, inexperienced ear this has the best tempo and phrasing (if that's even the correct descriptive word...) that I've ever heard. It truly speaks directly to my heart & soul! Bravo!
Wonderful! You play it with the articulation and sensitivity that gives me goosebumps.
I was looking for a video to show my 9 year old son in how the cello looks when being played and how beautiful it sounds, found your video basically by accident and was blown away by this performance!! It was very moving and I had tears and goosebumps from the start! Thanks for sharing!! You have a bright, wonderful future ahead of yourself!!
Amazing performance!!!
great playing! easily one of the most recognizable pieces for cello, and one of the best :D
I cried. This Nathan guy is amazing. He actually has FUN with the music. AND he's amazing at cello!!!! This kid is so cool! Seriously, this is a win at life :D
just amazing.
I just discovered this man, glad i did. :)
Excellent thank you.
Love it!
Excellent interpretation!
What a beautiful blessing from god,you can see how much it moves him from inside, my son plays the piano with this same passion, thank you for sharing it on youTube😌

*jaw drops* man you send shivers down my spine. I hope you get to be a great cellist!
You're awesome! Greetings from Brazil.
Woah.. that was amazing!!!!!!!!!! Thumbs up!

Yes Nathan Chan,yes!
beautiful, bravo!
It's so beautiful! My eyes are watering, I'm not kidding.
muito bom nathan!
Beautiful
Excellent !
Absolutely beautiful. Nice tone.. I am just learning this piece myself. :)
The mic he is using is a contact microphone, it picks up the vibrations of the cello underneath it much the same as a piezo works. It does not have a cardioid sound pattern as most mics you are familiar with do therefore it will not pick up any sound that is not either EXTREMELY loud or from a source that is in direct contact with the microphone.
Pretty nice. I am playing the bach prelude myself and you gave me a few good ideas.
I am so damn proud of you
I like the actual playing...but the camera angles are weird...and a deer? really?
clara chan the girl directing the camera has adhd
Does it really matter
Bravo! You're obviously well on your way to a very elegant sense of sprezzatura, should you want it, or any sense you like. What a delightfully convincing performance. Bravo!
Outstanding
Eargasmic . :o | Completely breath taking . | Love This piece ,
Music is an amazing thing.
dude..thats beast..
Well done!!!!!
you have a wonderful dynamic! Like to hear more "cello-classics" playing by you!
excelente, profissional que sonoridade, muito bom parabens
I see emotion in your movements!!This is the difference!!
That was grate. Good job
This may be my favourite interpretation of this particular piece of music, the tempo is reminiscent of Maisky but with a longer draw, very very nice.
Preciosa melodía... alimento para los sentidos...
its very good, is beautiful, is excellent
Seriously? Thats so cool! Wow, I guess it's true, you do learn something new every day!
I love u Nathan :3 !!!!!!!!!!!!
I liked where they zoomed the camera on the animal lol ;)
Awesome
very good🎻🎻
Great!
OMG that was AMazing btw u have a really nice Cello! :)
just wonderfull! einfach himmlich! impresionante sensibilidad!
daaamn cello's sounds really classy :o
the post-modern shooting is so intense
like it!
NIIIIIICE
Good job
Well done, young man! Keep on...I love it!
;^) Crazy Frank
I love you!!!!!!
It's not a microphone. It's a damper for the Wolf Tone. It's just a way to eliminate the noisy sound (Wolf Tone) that we find in F or F sharp (more or less) of specially the 3rd string of the most of the cellos.
i like this version because it has the same bowings as i do and not some insane man with a beard playing it insanely fast and slurring an entire page into one bow! (slightly over expressive on that last part) anyways, it's a great help to those who are just starting the back suites, and you did a great job playing it!
he can remember the music
Heard this on hitman bloodmoney, now i want more of bach works.
@mrslimbeck its in the left of the bridge, glued there, you can see
Simply beautiful. Left me mystified.
@DavidCB44 I really think it was since the camera is constantly changing positions and there seems to be no recorders nearby ;)
@DavidCB44 its a mic thats taped onto the face of the cello
he may have played this prelude ,i dont think it happened at this recording video
Either they prerecorded this in a room, or added reverb to it. Either way - despite SOUNDING great and being played very well, the audio feels disconnected from the video and it just doesn't feel "real"
Beautiful both the music but the feeling was even more heightened by the choice of stage!
The next recommended is Nathan playing as a kid, how adorable
I am a big fan of him he is so cute.
Still this guy is great
I can play an array of rather 'difficult' pieces but for some reason I can not play Bach's prelude from suite one for my life! This I believe is a serious case of "You don't play the piece, the piece plays you."
Anywho, great video and of course, great performance.
That's actually a sound moderator, it evens out the sound on the cello. I have one on mine. However, they can and probably recorded it with equipment on scene.
@Cellistimothy i used to ask this kind of thing when i was starting on cello.. But a good cellist, and no doubt he is one, plays with both.. even when you are reading first sight, you are constantly using the ears, and when you are memorising a piece from score, you have to learn how to mentally sing the music you read and play.. so the ear is ALWAYS being used.
If you mean transcribing music by ear.. well, probably he didnt, thought he could
you are soo talented!! i like how you picked the outdoor to play,,its soo beautiful,,may i ask is the background located in san francisco? thnx
saw the side view of Nathan, then automatically thought, "OMG FETUS CHAN"
@samurailunchbox dude, if you listen to the Yo Yo Ma version, you can tell it's so much smoother and less scratchy
u are amazing!!!!!!
hopefully i can play as well as you someday.....im 12 :DDD
@DavidCB44 Most likely due to all those transitions from his sister's recording. (Or how it changes angles every time and such.)
@mrslimbeck i do belive it is recorded on studio and the video was made after
Bach 4 life.
I enjoy playing this on the classical guitar, but when I hear it on the cello, there is no doubt which instrument the composer had in mind.
Well there is a mic on the cello and he goes to Colombia and Juliard, so i'm sure there's no question that it is him
yeah the pick up is attached to his cello you can see it on left under the f holes
The difficulty on this piece is set on the higher side. It involves 2nd and 3rd position.
Those 17 dislikes...>:( who would dislike this?!
Song starts at 0:26
You're amazing. How much do you practice a day?
I want a mic for my classic cello
