As a filmmaker, this makes me so angry. I hate when TikTokers or UA-camrs think that making a movie is just an easy little quick thing. It’s not, it is 100% not. I’m not gonna act like I know how to make a feature film. I don’t know how to at all, but I’ve been studying and creating short films for years now, and those have taken so long and so much effort and my newest short film is kind of bad! It takes time and you need to allow yourself to fail. You can’t just skip the ranks to a feature film. Sorry for going on a tangent, I’m just very passionate about filmmaking.

the way that she couldve had this made into a movie if she just approached it differently. like, studios picking up random viral stories and turning them into movies is a thing that happens, but she had to make it something worth filming! if she had just leaned into the virality and tried to push the sort of 'mythos' surrounding this car a little further, there could've been something here. like, she couldve done research into her family + the families of those women, piecing together a narrative of people helping each other! or she couldve gone on a road trip in the car (assuming she still has it), learning how to maintain it and visiting locations she can tie back into her family's story. if she managed to build the story and maintain virality for long enough, while also occasionally expressing interest in a book/movie deal, someone wouldve taken the bait. maybe not a huge studio like A24, but she wouldve gotten *something.*
instead, now nobody's gonna touch her story with a 10 foot pole. good job.

The idea that a studio like A24 would do a deal with some random chick who has never directed a film before is pretty laughable. Unless they're a nepo baby, directors as you said at the end, do low level jobs like being a assistant, work on their own independent films/short films before they have even a chance at getting a director spot. Even if you wrote the best story in the world, they'll just take the story and give it a director who has actually made movies before

@shirashiraonthewall how is that weird? Certain cars are sought after bc they're rare, exceptionally beautiful, the first to incorporate something new, etc. If it's just an old car with nothing important, why would the car community care about it? Don't get me wrong, we still appreciate any old car that's been taken care of or restored, even if it's not sought after, it just won't ever be worth much

  • @kindlyoffer1350
    @kindlyoffer1350 5 місяців тому +17

I think a movie about a car would be kinda cool. Like, the main character would actually be an inanimate car, and the whole movie would just be about exploring the lives of the people who owned the car at that time. And as soon as the car is sold or stolen, that person's story ends and the next begins. I think it would be an amazing way to show the passage of time through the lens of an object that doesn't care about you or your problems because it's JUST a car.
Nothing more to add about the obvious psychosis of this lady though. And her wife is at fault too. Just shake her and tell her to STOP!

I'm an aspiring filmmaker. I've pitched to producers (small indie ones) as a nobody because that's pretty much what I am at this point. Just to get my script read takes about a minimum of 6-8 weeks and I'm lucky they read all of it because typically if a script isn't compelling (or they aren't interested) they'll stop reading it and just never contact you again. No, I haven't gotten a movie deal or sold anything yet, but I guarantee I've gotten closer to it than this woman.

I’m a car guy, it’s all I’ve known, yeah her car has a decent backstory but let’s be honest, how are they gonna turn it into a full blown movie that’s actually gonna pull an audience? Hallmark could’ve pulled it off but movie wise that’s probably be the only company that would even try, hot wheels wouldn’t have made a book or a movie of it, but it would’ve helped give her the promotion of the story so production studios would’ve possibly seen that. Her saying her car deserves a whole movie is like me saying my Jeep deserves a movie because it was a cash for clunkers car so it was destined to a crusher till someone at the dealership bought it out of the cash for clunkers lot.

Yeah you can't copyright a life story unless it's already been written down in some form. That's why an autobiography can be written BY anybody, ABOUT anybody - and the person it's about can't do anything about it, with the exception of having it removed from publication if it contains clear and provable lies and inaccuracies.

wgae member here -- even if she registered a script with wga (which is the only service even close to what she claims), it is NOT a copyright. all you receive is a certificate of registration. she'd have to have a completed script, which doesn't track with her timeline. she couldn't even do the basic research of reading the guild's FAQ on registration lmao

4:29 had me laughing lol! I've worked with publishers and producers and they don't just reach out to some random person with an average story. It is guaranteed she'd have to do all the reaching out and almost impossible for her to even get excepted by any big companies. I love when people are confidant, but this is too much.
Anyways, i love you shira, keep being amazing :)

Hey just a general PSA You can just like write a book... No one has to give you money for you to be able to do that You can just start doing it in your free time.. It might suck but you can do it.
To have the book distributed cost money if you want people to own a physical copy of it and to pay you for it but you can just post that shit online for free... Many people who have paid to self-publish their own books by crowdfunding have done things like posted short stories or chapters of their book and then people who are interested in it and their writing style will donate.

I had seen a study stating that the personality factor that had the biggest influence on success was not intelligence or aptitude but audacity. I guess I can see the argument for it. Like Shira said if you don't ask the answer is always no, so perhaps there is some truth to the idea that the first element to finding success is to have the gall to believe you can try for something. (Of course I don't know if the study accounted for "having rich parents" lol, but I digress) I see this girl at nine minutes in and I say that with this level of entitlement and chutzpah she could actually make for a director. And maybe if she were some nepo baby she would be able to try as she is. But seeing as she is not she needs to accept that she's going to have to pair that ambition with some work, probably in the form of an education. Which is something that she seems less than willing to do. Of course it's only really half a story that she's got. It feels like it needs something more. You know like maybe she could learn something more about the lives of these ladies and come up with a through line that links her to them. Like maybe having the freedom the car granted made all of the lives of the women it touched better. You wanna attract the attention of the car manufacterer? I think that would be a much more appealing story to them and to an audience.

Ah yes, rich parents in a great life hack for success lmao. The rest of us have to work hard. Drive and being a little narcissistic and delusional is truly important though, I wouldn’t have made it this far if I wasn’t a little cocky. But you should never actually publicly share that, that’s her problem.

The irony is that if the origins story of this car is real it meant her grandfather got it two times by just being a kind person and acting nice without any interest behind it and now his grandaughter is trying to capitalize this story.
While many say “if you don't ask the answer is always no” I much prefer the saying from Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov:
“You should never ask anyone for anything. Never- and especially from those who are more powerful than yourself. They will make the offer and they will give of their own accord.”
This can be applied to this story, her grandfather never asked and got rewarded because people saw and valued his kindness. She got an offer and thought it was not good enough and started to ask to the point of harassment and without any shame a big cinematographic company.

10:12 - That part gives me the ick. It's like saying FIlm School or going to college to study film is a waste of time and that you can figure everything out from watching movies. I'm currently in college for film and that's a bunch of garbage. Only about 10% of my classes are actually watching films; the rest is learning techniques that are common in the past, present and future industry.
