I just have to say, beyond being funny, McKay is an incredibly deep character. David Hewlett absolutely crushes it with his performances. Enzyme McKay, Morphine McKay, Grace Under Pressure McKay, The Shrine McKay, etc. Hewlett has got to be one of the most underrated actors ever!
I came to the SG shows just a few years ago. Not sure how I missed them when they first aired. I started watching Atlantis just for Rodney! David Hewlett was truly amazing. The character could've ended up being just comic relief or insufferable with his arrogance. But DH made him a fully rounded character. If you didn't end up loving him (like I did) you could at least admit he had some good qualities.
I discovered this show in 2021 and he is by far my most favourite character of all the crew, i guess is never too late to watch a great show and i feel very lucky to get to know better and better this amazing fictional character with every new episode i watch, love him so much ❤️
Literally how I feel about McKay. Although I've known about him since SG1. He really grew in Atlantis though and showed how he's more than just the arrogant asshole we all love. Every time I hear his voice or he's on the screen, I'm endlessly happy about it! I re-watched this show for the first time in nearly a decade and I still love him just as much. I'm so glad to see this show is making new fans. It's so good and deserves more attention!

you are correct, it is NEVER too late to watch Stargate: Atlantis. it's my personal favorite. and from what it seems, people are bucking for a new Stargate series soon :)

@@theriveracis5172 In defense of Rodney, that's actually not his fault at all. You can see that his fingers were not on the magazine eject at all. Equipment malfunction, and a pretty horrendous one at that.
Still, in most instances of using a shield or armor you still feel the impact as the bullet gets stopped. If he didn't feel the bullet impact on the shield, he must have hypothesized there was a shock absorbtion property to it.
(a lot of) enzyme rodney and arrow stuck in his glutenous maximus/ morphine rodney is the best. Have you seen ... a pretty girl and a caveman? XD Love the guy.

Mckay was right about the "Advanced" though it's not about being advanced. its a genetic marker people can have. Daniel Jackson who's ascended multiple times didn't have it.
I'd like this "annoying but this loveable nerd" trope to grow up. I like McKay, but how good would it be see a Rodney character become a calmer, more focused warrior as Sheppard settles into his Mensa-capable intelligence. Sheppard solves the science, McKay fights the bad alien weirdies for the first time? That's an episode I want to see.

I love how Shepard cringes in sympathy when Rodny gets hit at the end but Elizabeth doesn't even blink. She even looks like she's smiling.

Teyla eventually came and killed the wraith for him. But he does have his heroic moments!
If his magazine was full, he'd still fail, as he ejected the magazine. Loaded mag doesn't mean anything if it's on the ground.

I just realized Rodney must have realized the inertia dampening properties of the shield when Shepherd shot him and he didn't get thrown back by it
