This video is great inspiration, as are all of your videos! I’m a beginner sewer, and I’m making a shirt based on the shirred dress. I just want to mention for other beginners that one step skipped over in this video that I learned the hard way is that when working with elastic thread, you only use it in the bobbin, and you use regular thread up top. It was only after a lot of snapped elastic thread that I realized this, and looked it up elsewhere.
I tried something similar to this a few weeks ago and it was so simple and fun to make. For the end of the sleeves, instead of inserting an elastic, I added a few rows of shirring a few inches above the hem, and it became a really pretty, romantic sleeve.
Did you add the shirring before or after sewing the sleeve closed along the side edge?
I love that you added pockets! I have seen many dresses like this with no pockets, so it’s nice to see a tutorial that includes pockets! So cute!
Thanks! Pockets are a must 😍
almost done making mine and its looking so cute! this is actually the first dress ive ever made and im so happy with how its turning out! just waiting for my elastic thread to come in the mail and then i can finish :D
Yay that’s so great to hear! It’s such a good project for beginners 😄
Wow!!! I'm a beginner sewer and this looks like something I can actually do! 😍 Def gonna be my new project.
It’s such a great project for beginners! Have fun making it 😄🧡
Okay so here is a tip if you have an HOURGLASS or PEAR shape and you are making this dress! (Please learn from my mistakes!) If your hips are wider than your bust, when you measure the dress panels use your hip measurements rather than the bust measurements. I used my bust measurements rather than my hip measurements, shirred for at least three hours and now have a dress that doesn't fit ;_:
Super sad as I had been looking forward to this one and had some really nice fabric that is all made up into a dress I cannot wear ;_;
Big hipped people take note!
What about ladies with large bust? I worry that if I do the shirring on my bust measurements then it'll be baggy around my waist, how can I combat this?
I had this doubt about the measurements and your commment solves it. Thanks!
I just did this! I wish I had read this comment sooner before cutting into my lovely fabric 😫
this information should definitely be in the video because i wondered the same thing. thank you so much. would this make the top too big though?
@@alexist.5598 No idea I am terrible at sewing :/
I’ve been wanting to make a dress like this. I’ve just been too lazy to make my own pattern. Thank you for doing the hard part for me!
@Martin Cooper ىلؤ
I really love the *gathered* effect
Reminds me of some of my fave childhood 90s floral outfits #nostalgia
Oh this is fantastic! I’m going to make some of these for the warmer months with shorter sleeves. I love the square wide neck.
Love, love, love this dress. My daughters will love it too. I can see me making quite a few this summer. Thank you💕
Love this dress! I'll give it a go with my toddler and baby... I'm sure it would make a really cute matching Mummy and me design. Thanks for sharing
Oh how adorable! 💕
This is so cute 💖💖
@@nayanmonikeot1366 if I do get to make it I'll post it to my UA-cam channel :)
@@MyMumMakes I'll surely give it a watch😍
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I made this dress for myself out of a vintage fabric and wore it on Christmas day😊
Dearest Janelle, beautiful work as always 💖 what I like most about you is you have the exact same sewing machine and serger I have😊 As a self taught amatour myself, everything you explained about the machines are so valuable for me. Thank you so much 💖
Love your tutorials! They are so informative and so easy to follow along to! Everything is so clear and easy to understand and I really appreciate that!
OMG this is such a fun video! I absolutely love the dress and cant wait to stitch this for my sister! I'm sure she'll love it. Thanks a lot!!
Great job! This looks a lot easier than I thought it would. I used to make shirred tops and dresses for my daughter when she was little, but I bought the material pre-shirred. I'll have to give this a try. Thanks! Blessings all!!!!!
Definitely give it a try! Once you figure out the machine settings it’s soo easy! 😊
I loved the dress, the cloth, the floral print is so pretty 💖🌸
Thanks, Rosery Apparel 🌸 you make it look so easy!

OMG I bought these fabric shears years ago, they're incredible and I got a free pair of snips with them too that are still super sharp years later. I think I'd cry if I lost the little snips.
Learning so much about seeing from your channel

Love it!!!!
Thank you! 🧡
Love love love
It look awesome...
Nice dress!
This is so beautiful and so much more simple than the other tutorials I've watched for this style - makes me think I can actually do it!
Did you shirr the bust area in a spiral (continuous all the way down?) Or did you shirr lines and stop and cut the thread after each line?
Yay I’m glad you found this tutorial helpful! I sewed mine one line (cutting the thread and then starting a fresh line) at a time 😊
Is very easy, thank you 😍😍😍😍😍👍
Your channel helped me when I was brand new to sewing! 🌸Where do you get your fabric? Can you do a video about your favorite places to get fabric online? I’m having so much trouble 😣
I'm a biganer for saw l love to stich this project thankyou so much
Superb!
Tahnk you🌷🌷
Wow so nice looks my dear
Very cute.
Love the dress, this is the first time im ever doing a dress. Only problem i have is that my sleeves ended up being so massive ! Dont know what i did wrong but they are a bit ridiculous lol. Definitely going to try again another time.
Yes! This is exactly the kind of dress I'd like to make, and it looks fairly simple! Thank you for this!
Would you mind sharing how long it took you to make this (are we talking about a day or are we talking a week)? I'm pretty impatient, so I just need to make sure I don't start something that will take me more than 3 days because I know (from experience) that I am unlikely to follow through on that kind of project 😅
This video so helpful 👍🏼 i love this dress so much and i gonna make some for my lil sister. They will love it so much❤️ but i dont know which elastic thread can i use?
Thanks for the video! Do you use regular polyester thread in the top part of the machine while using the elastic thread in the bobbin?
Tôi rất thích mẫu đầm này .cám ơn bạn đã chia sẻ cách
so beutiful dress 😍😍😍😍
Thanks 👍 all is very buetyful
I’m currently making this dress and it’s super easy to make! The only issue I have is that I have a different type of sewing machine to the shirring isn’t turning out right ☹️it’s not scrunching up enough so the top is big but I can adjust it!
I love how the measurements are in both centimetres and inches!! it makes it so easy :))
Love this,
Im a beginner and just wandering
What is a normal amount of fabric to buy for a dress like this?
And also do you need special needles for the elastic?
Hey love the dress ! What's the music at the beginning it's really cool ?
This is so easy to follow and I’m currently making this dress out of some floral bedsheets hahaha, wish me luck!
Thank you for sharing your video. It was easy to follow and certainly will be making this dress.
thank you for this amazing tutorial ! what is the music used in the intro ?
Love the fabric. Where did you get it from. Thanks
can you make a video about type of fabrics to use for dresses ?
This dress is so cute! I definitely want to add this to my “to make” list! Also where did you find your pink iron?? I’ve been looking for one to match my developing pink aesthetic. 😂
I’m glad you liked the vid! The iron is by Oliso. It wasn’t cheap, but it’s amazing!
Thank you so much!
