2014-2016 was TRULY a golden age for pop music and pop culture as a whole
This is certainly a take
Definitely not
No but yes
I always say this was the golden age too
I love how you mentioned how 2014 was our first time ever remembering anything from that year for gen z because I was just thinking this the other day
Cheerleader is my worst nemesis. How you feel about Happy, I feel about Cheerleader. Just the tiny bit you played made my skin crawl 💀
I hated and still hate it
OMG THANK YOU i felt like the only mf who despised that song
The parody music videos were peak in this era too !!!
I must confess, I used to love watch Bart Baker mv on Music Choice. I wouldve considered it peak comedy back then 😂
Finally some "Journals" appreciation!!! I've been fighting for this album for YEARS. So underrated
Not over here it’s not!
Word!!! It went platinum on my Spotify
Yes!
beyonce creating 3 cultural phrases in one era is crazy "im feeling myself" "i woke up like this" and "world stop....carry on"
This was during my 6th grade year of school and this is my favorite era from Beyonce.
2015 had me addicted Hymm for the weekend by Coldplay and Bey😫
Eras/ albums also worth mentioning:
1. ‘X’ (multiply)- Ed Sheeran (2014)
2. “Uptown Funk”- Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars
3. ‘Glory Days’- Little Mix (2016)
4. “Work From Home”- Fifth Harmony (2016)
Oh yeah we loved uptown funk 😂😂
ughhh life was so fun in the 2010's!!
2014 was also definitely a huge year for boy bands. 1D released (in my humble opinion) their best album, and both 5SOS + The Vamps released their debut albums. Ngl I still stand by 5SOS’s b-sides from this era being some of the best in their discography
as a nostalgic little bitch, this typa content is exactly what i need & your commentary is always SO funny
I also love nostalgia 😂😂
I quite literally did not know boom clap by Charlie XCX was a soundtrack song until this year a whole decade later… that’s how strong it stood on its own.
Damn that 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack was just throwing out bops left and right. They also had Miss Ellie Goulding on the album
(dj) mustard was everywhere back then lol felt like every fun+viral song started with his intro lol
Frank ocean blonde 😊
I hate to be that 🍞, but Ed Sheeran’s X (2014) has to be mentioned. I mean this man still owns streaming, and I think I heard ‘Sing’, ‘Photograph’, and/or ‘Thinking Out Loud’ every week for the next four years at least
I went through great lengths to escape THAT man 😭😭
in 2016 i was all about and had an obsession with fetty wap 😭 i was in 6th grade
Can you do (2000s) after this series? Love your work
OMG I feel the EXACT same way about “Happy”😂😅
I was so confused and amazed when the songs on Beyonce's Self-Titled album would be two-parters. I used to wonder why the radio was playing Beyonce songs back to back, lol.
Being nostalgic over the 2010s ( which was all of my teen years)
Makes me feel so old lol 😩🥺
2014 and I was 22yo and 1989 had me in the chokehold. I liked Ariana, Nicki, Beyonce, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and even Happy by Pharell (Girl Album was also bomb), and Katy Perry. These songs are still in my playlisy and usually I play it while driving. Makes me feel at least upbeat while driving in my mundane day to day life.
Those are just pop hits. Hiphop I had Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Kanye and even Tyler the Creator before the Flowerboy album to name a few. For RnB, I was huge with Frank Ocean and The Weekend.
Oh, this video makes me feel nostalgic about my younger days where I didn't have much worries and I just wanted to chill and have fun. I feel aged, stressed and depressed now.
I don’t think people really understand how incredible 2016 was lil uzi young thug everything the music was great the fashion trends were great I could go on and in I miss it I was 13 young and turnt
Not me about to start crying bc this era of music is all I still listen too. It’s sooo nostalgic to me. I remember being in the club and just simpler days.. some songs also hold trauma bonds of me to my ex but most just make me happy to hear. 😊
TAKE ME BACK
omg, you're right, I remember most of this releases like it were yesterday when 2010-2013 i feel like was eras ago
in the 2016 segment, i was looking at anti and lemonade stare at u in the back while u was talking ab everyone else until u saved them for last😭 i was like is she not gonna talk ab the works that she literally shelved in her own house!?☠☠☠
pls 😭😭😭
That Turnt era R&B sound is called the RnBass sound. And you’re right, they all have the same producer. It was done by DJ Mustard, Mike Free, Nic Nac and J Maine. It was basically the West Coast’s contribution to R&B.
I miss it a lot.
The most iconic song to come from this was Loyal by Chris Brown, 2 On by Tinashe and Post To Be by Omarion
Take me back to 2016 😭😭
- I still can’t believe that people forgot about ‘Drop That Kitty’. I still wish that the song was available to stream because why do I need to watch the video in order to access the song?!
- ‘Let Em Know’ is such an underrated Trapsoul track
- Sorry gurl but I’m a shameless ‘Happy’ stan, I could sing the song all day🤷🏾♀️
Drop that kitty is on spotify
@@lindseydommy Thanks for the reminder, I forgot about that! However, I use Apple Music which sadly doesn’t have the song on its own, just the video version😕
Im pretty sure that “turnt trap” sound was DJ mustard, “Loyal” by Chris brown always takes me straight back to 2014
Babe wake up a new Aishah Jenmi video just dropped❗️
guuurl DROP DAT KITTY was beyond
somebody by natalie la rose finally getting its flowers 😭🙏🏼🙏🏼
I love your analysis videos! I can’t wait until you do 2017-2019 next!
Yesssss Tinashe mention ❤️❤️
I really enjoy this series. 2010s music doesn't get enough credit.
But I can't believe you would mention the fifty shades soundtrack but leave out the Ellie Goulding classic Love Me Like You Do.
I want a 2016-2019 era video
your tasteee > you're so hilarious and i'm loving the series!! hitting all the iconic tunes 😭
Rihannas best album
happy is so good if it wasnt overplayed. i heard it the other day and was dancing so hard😭
this was a moment for popular music like the girls were cooking up hits after hits nonstop almost every day!!! like there hasn't been a time like until now in 2024 were everyone is dropping music all at once
Not especially a Katy Perry fan but Darkhorse is a hella good song, my fave from her,. But Lastt Friday Night is my guilty pleasure bbbbbop.
Can’t wait for part 3
You not mentioning 'Loyal' has to be a crime (ik people dont like CB and all but that song was revolutionary imo). It literally had everybody in a chokehold in my country and don't get me started with the outfits😭 every corner you turned you were guaranteed to see someone dressed in skinny jeans, a shacket tied around their waist and a straight cap (idk what they are called but yeah, the DC ones) and a pair of Timeberlands (they got sold out so fast in stores). It was a whole cult bruh
loyal was not a revolutionary song bffr 😭😭that song is just okay.
@@archivesunset4214 did you miss the part where I said "IN MY OPINION"?
TRINI DEM GIRLS WAS MY FAVVV in middle school! 😭 I jumped up in excitement when I heard a clip in your video ❤
I love these
I started college in 2014 so all of these songs remind me of being at house party 😂😂😂 especially Rae Sremmurd & Fetty Wap
You were one of the chosen ones I fear
I love your videos
Noting was the same was constantly blasting in my 2013 Sebring 😂
never clicked faster on the notification in my life
havent watched it yet but i know its gonna be great THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK MAAM, love you!!
okay watched it and it was amazing
Journals is such an underrated album
The fact that I graduated from high school 10 years ago makes me feel so dang old!!! Like these were my songs!
Oh I loved starboy that was my favorite Weeknd album
Nah you were right by all of the party songs having the same vibe in 2014-2015. And half of them were produced by Mustard 🤣 that’s probably why.
Yas Queen 👑
omg heyy early squad
Wake up people! Mother is momming with this upload schedule lately! ✨
This was the last era where I was fully happy
you remind me of ayo edeberi specially in the way you talk. you look gorgeous and i love ur videos about music!
I love AYO!! thank you so much for this comment 💗💗
oh i’ve been WAITING for this
Iconicccc
can't forget abt blonde frank ocean beautiful
nooooo jcole not mentioned for 2014 forest hills drive 💔💔
He wasn’t mentioned but we cherish that album !
The r&b and trap section explains a LOT of the direction kpop and krnb took on 2016-onwards
WOOOOO!!!
Love fancy
Yeah I would say 2016 was the last year I still actively listened to music. Like honestly I don’t listen to music past 2016 haha
lets not forget the infamous one direction breakup & final album, Made in the A.M (2015)
jus seen u briefly mentioned it, zayn's debut was everythingggg! also 1D's best album imo, Four came out in 2014
Maybe because I'm european I didn't know many of these rap and trap songs / artists. But great video, I prefer 2000s music, can you do a video of that? Sorry for my english.
SINGIN IN DA SHOWAH😝
I kept looking at your wall thinking when were you going to mention the icon that is Glory Days
Maybe bc it deserves a video on its own 🫢
@@AishahJenmi OH 👀
Miss Robin Rihanna Fenty
Wait until you discover 2010s euro house music, that's where the summer vibes lay
*"And the biggest song to come out from that soundtrack was..."*
me: Love me lik-
*"...Earned It by The Weeknd"*
Oh- I guess LMLYD was just bigger in Europe 😭
😭😭😭
From 2013 I missed Demi Lovato's self-titled album, it was definitely her best worked era
Love bbhmm
Shake it off is that one song I’ll be so happy to never hear again. I thought it was corny the first time I heard it but by the millionth listen, I became physically violent.
Love goyk
Is it ganna be two other weeks
🫢
Incredible video as always but babe how could you forget about Sam Smith’s debut and Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do!!! Like c’mon now
I apologize friend 😭
you mean that time beyonce and bruno headlined the super bowl ft. coldplay
YOU RIGHT.
Madam the playlist
Boos were made
Hey
But what abt panda by desiigner? that also reminds me of 2016

This is instant time travel
First comment
Work Work Work Work Work rihanna 😂
“Oh my god look at her butt” was my ringtone for all of 2014-2015
the Illuminati Era of Music was Untouchable ❤️
I’ll always remember this era as three things. The Lightskin Era, the Chris Brown Era and the Pop Boy era.
The Lightskins (and Lightskin adjacents) took over R&B and Pop especially with the help of DJ Mustard’s RnBass sound (which I wish would come back so I can club and party to those songs in LA). Trey Songz, Eric Bellinger, Zendaya, Chris Brown, Ty Dolla Sign, The Weeknd, Omarion, Kid Ink, Tyga, Tinashe, Rae Sremmurd, Jeremih, August Alsina, K Camp, Jason Derulo, Bizzle (Justin Bieber), Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Iggy Azalea, PartyNextDoor, Bruno Mars, etc.
Then I call it the Chris Brown era because this is really where he peaked in fame and his music. He dropped X Files, X, Royalty, Royalty International, Before The Party, his best collaboration with Benny Benassi (Paradise) and his best lead single, Grass Ain’t Greener. He had his first daughter, finally ended his legal troubles. He was on every song, every TV show, every award show, every festival, you could not escape him. He spearheaded the RnBass sound and Lightskin era. He had one of his best tours and collections of performances. This era is his equivalent to Usher’s Confession’s era. Also we need to talk about the cultural reset that the Loyal music video caused. The flannels, timbs, skinny jeans and snapbacks combo had us in a chokehold. Hell, the main lyric is a quote used to this day.
I also call it the Pop Boy era because you had all the Pop boys at the top. The Weeknd, Chris Brown, Usher, Zayn, BTS, Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake and Ne-Yo. They were DANCING. They were all over the radio and the big events.
What I would give to go back to 2015 as an adult, I would THRIVE. Especially as someone whose favorite type of artists are black male popstars.
Musically is tictok they just rebranded and changed the name
Girlll how can you skip over Melanie Martinez and her album Crybaby?? Tumblr girlies were never the same ever since it dropped !!
She wasn’t mentioned but she was cherished in my household!
1. Mustard was the one producing most of the hit songs that year, that's why they all sound the same😂
2. 'Feeling myself' had a chokehold on everybody. I swear at one point they were selling t-shirts that had "feeling myself" (even tights) and I had them😭✋️
Yess from city trends if your from the south
So as a 33 year old, I appreciate you for reminding me of what it was like to be 23 in the club in 2014. What a time 😩😢
No offence behive
THANK YOU FOR THE HAPPY SONG PART OMG. that song annoyed me so much & made me the opposite of happy😭😒
Funny story: I bought a sweatshirt that said “I’m so fancy” in glitter and rhinestones with no idea that it was quoting the song. I just found the the irony of the statement on a sweatshirt comical. I did come to enjoy the song tho.
being 14 during 2014 >>>>>>
