Some friends and I drove from York, Pa to Lancaster to a 2nd Chapter of Acts concert. It was great. I especially remember the resurrection song. On the way back the driver absent mindedly went a little over the speed limit while we were listening to a Christian music tape. We got pulled over by a policeman and we sat quietly waiting for him to approach the car. He leaned down to speak into the window and at that precise moment the voice on the tape said, "There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh." The officer quietly listened to the voice on the tape (which we had nothing to do with, the timing was absolutely perfect.) And after he heard this he said, now you slow down alright. And he returned to his car. We praised God and all of us knew we just witnessed a miracle.

All I can say that as a young believer in 1977 I was so helped by their music in growing and staying with Christ. Through the years it's been a treasure even today. It's still relevant.

AN AMAZING STORY ABOUT ANNIE (I know its long but bear with me):
When I was a shy, quiet & withdrawn child in the early 80's I lived a poor, miserable and lonely life in South Florida. Then one day during one of my 6th grade classes the teacher took out a book and started reading it. It was The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe from the Chronicles of Narnia. I had never heard of it before - it was before the famous BBC series and the later Disney movies of the books - and I was totally mesmerized; hearing about young King Peter made me feel brave inside, which was a big deal because there was nothing brave about me. I don't know why my teacher suddenly chose to read that book to us, but God did. She read a few pages to us every day. But wouldn't you know, one day, right when she was in the middle of the story, a school administrator told me that I had been assigned to the wrong class.
How does THAT happen?! And why just THAT class?! So, I was taken out of that class, and taken away from Narnia. Kids nowadays are bolder and probably would have spoken up about this; but I had been taught that a child has no right to an opinion, that grown-ups are always right, to never question a grown-up for any reason, and a child must be absolutely obedient, or the punishment would be harsh. I was often reminded that I could be given up for adoption or sent to juvenile detention. I wasn't suicidal, but I felt worthless, I was pretty sure that I was a mistake of nature, that I shouldn't exist, and even though God could save anybody no matter how bad they were, He wouldn't want me. So you can imagine that when a grown-up molested me, I didn't think it was my fault, but I figured that I was so worthless I deserved it.
We were too poor for my mom to buy a copy of that Narnia book for me, so I looked for it in the library and discovered that there were SEVEN books in the series, and I was on cloud nine. Those stories took me far far away from my miserable world. It was during that time I also discovered 2nd Chapter of Acts, and while I loved their songs like 'The Easter Song' and 'Love Joy Peace', it was 'The Prince's Song' that was particularly special to me because it reached me in my safe space - the fairy tale world I was hiding in.
Well, life got so hard for me I ended up running away literally to the other side of the country when I was 16, to live with a father who didn't want me and a step-mother who was so bitterly resentful of my presence that my father was forced to build a wooden shed in the back yard and made me stay in it. I didn't do anything bad, I was really a good kid, they just didn't want me even in the house, and was more scared and more lonely than ever before.
Then one day while walking around at a flea market with my father, I saw a huge stack of LP records, and right on top I saw something that made my heart nearly jump out of my chest. The record cover had a picture of a giant lion leaping through the air with two little girls on his back. I instantly knew that was Aslan the lion with Queen Lucy and Queen Susan from Narnia!
As a kid I didn't know how popular the Narnia stories were and I sort of thought of Narnia as MY secret place, but here was a record made by someone who must have thought of Narnia the same way. And when I looked to see who made the record, I was astounded to see that it was 2nd Chapter of Acts. The album was called "The Roar of Love", with each song dedicated to an event in the Narnia story. I begged my father to buy it for me, and he did, and I listened to that record over and over until I memorized it.
The day that I turned 18. I came home from school and my father ruthlessly said in simply words, "You're 18 and no longer my responsibility, get out." I wasn't even finished with high school yet. I had no idea what to do or where to go, and by the grace of God a co-worker at the Burger King I worked at let me crash on his couch till I worked things out. But while I was packing my things (I'll admit, in tears), I accidentally picked up my Roar of Love album the wrong way, and the record slid right out of the jacket, landed on its edge, and SHATTERED!
There was no such thing as the internet yet to find a replacement, and the local Tower Records store said it was already "out of print". I was absolutely devastated.
Flash forward 10 years to the 1990s. One day I walked into a Christian Family Bookstore, and just inside the front door was a stack of complementary copies of Christianity Today magazines - and on the cover was none other than ANNIE HERRING!!!!!! I grabbed a copy, ran home, and immediately wrote Annie a letter (in care of the magazine) telling her the story I just told you, above, and told her how special "Roar of Love" was to me and what had happened to my record and how heart broken I was about it. I figured, if anyone knew where I could buy a copy of that record, she would, and since I naturally assumed she herself would have a copy of it I even offered to pay just about anything if she would make a copy for me (I was willing for even a crappy cassette copy if she was willing put a recorder near her record player, I didn't care about the quality, it was all about the joy and nostalgia of hearing it again).
And ladies & gentlemen, boys and girls, and all believers in miracles - Annie Herring replied!! A little packet came in the mail from her and I ran in and sat down with my heart palpitating and just looked at it in my hands. When I opened it I wasn't sure what to expect, at the most maybe a simple home-made copy of the album. But that's not what was inside. No sir, no ma'am. What was inside was more than I could ever have hoped for or even have dreamed of - it was a brand new cassette AND a brand new CD of "Roar of Love"!!!
That act of kindness and mercy from the Lord, through Annie, healed many wounds in my heart, and taught me that the God of Mercy doesn't just answer prayer of faith, but He SEES the wounded soul and gives us the desires of our hearts - "for a bruised reed He will not break". Now I'm a 50 year old man, and I still listen to that album with humble gratefulness to a God who sees and a Christian sister who cared.

So blessed by this. It was at a 2nd Chapter of Acts concert in Cleveland, OH in 1978 that I HEARD the Good News of God's love and sensed His heart through the ministry of Annie, Nellie and Matthew, as well as the Gospel invitation at the end of their concert by Annie's husband, Buck, and responded by placing my trust in Christ and yielding my life to His. That night my eyes flowed a river of tears as my broken heart began to be healed by Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Reliving that moment through this video 42 years later caused that river of tears to flow again. THANKS!

I'm not sure where this was recorded, but right after I gave my heart to the Lord, I was hired by P.T.L. in Charlotte in 1977. The production crew packed up and we went to Pennsylvania to film Jesus '77. I remember how awesome it was to be there actually working with the crew and seeing 2nd chapter of acts who's songs ministered to me so much and Phil keaggy, Chuck girrard and many others.

Such a beautiful, pure, and personal love for our Lord Jesus shines through. Was blessed to see 2nd Chapter in concert in Minneapolis. Funny story about Matthew: To stage left were two swinging double doors, like you'd see in a restaurant. After a sound check, as Matthew was exiting through those doors he boisterously jumped up and kicked open one of the doors like he was Bruce Lee. Surprised me cuz I thought Christians were all serious and never expected see a natural, free, human playfulness.

I was there! Associate Director. Had been the Director of the Barry McGuire show at TBN called, "Anyone But Jesus" where many early artist first made appearances on camera, like Keith Green and 2nd Chapter, Phil K. These old recordings were shot in LA/Burbank area as a production Barry was looking to do on his own. Historic stuff at the beginning of Christian Rock Music, to be later named "Contemporary Christian Music". The band, "Love Song" really started it all for other Christian bands and artist who came flooding out after they first appeared at Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa.

    • @JSPCREATIVE
      @JSPCREATIVE 3 роки тому

Typo: Barry's show title at TBN was "Anyone But Jesus". I was hoping you knew more and could put me on the trail. I am out of touch with Barry McGuire but I have a shortcut to get back in touch so I will play that card and see if he can and will shared any light. I know the original production house that put up the funds to shoot and edit, "Premore". I use to do some editing there also. Perhaps I can chase down some more info down the road.
Good you uys are out there.
FYI, I am currently in the middle of a major documentary on he band Love Song. Most all of the principal shooting is completed bu we have run out of Post funds. Please advise your audience to go to www.LoveSongTheBand.com and make a generious donation to see this story get completed. The Love Song website features a Doc, "Promotional Trailer" on the film.

While you are on this channel please find & watch documentaries on Keith's Life.
Here is why I say that: Keith was best friends with the group members of the 2nd Chapter of Acts.
"I would have to say, if it wasn't for the loving & giving heart of Keith Green, I probably would not have become a believer and remained "the course" even through today. I led my brother to the Lord and he and I have led nearly 25 members of our extended family to Christ. I even have two boys who have become full-time ministers of the Gospel of Christ. (Keith would be proud)
I have studied under many significant ministries, leaders, preachers, churches, in several denominations, but, sad to say, I have had to renounce many their influences from my life for many of them have fallen away from Christ Himself and His solid and simple teachings.
Keith Green was that prophet that had caused myself and many to be single-focused in my walk with Christ and to seek to be planted in quality soil in order to produce fruit."

If anyone knows anything about James (Jim) Lowe the Director, who came to Christ during this production, I would love to know.

Thank you for chiming in! Great to finally nail down what this concert was from. Do you have any idea if there are surviving copies of these concerts out there anywhere? I don't know where this one came from. I acquired it almost by chance somewhere online (I can't even remember where).

7:11 - Is that Keith Green on the other side of the piano?? I know he had a working and personal relationship with 2nd Chapter Of Acts, but I don't expect to see him on stage with them. Maybe lots of people just had that look in the 70s? I had the awesome honor of seeing 2nd Chapter Of Acts at their 2nd to last concert ever in Tyler, Texas, 1988 as a brand-new believer. I was into very heavy music then & didn't think I'd like this "La La" Christian band, but I was blown away since it was the first place I experienced people actually worshipping the Lord from their hearts.

We all need to be saved from having to spend our eternity in God's lake of fire, because that's a fate we ALL deserve.
So be SAVED and believe that God LOVES us so MUCH that He manifested Himself on earth as the Lord JESUS Christ who shed His sinless blood for the forgiveness of our sins, who was buried and rose from the dead, three days later, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
If you believe this you're not only saved but sealed with the Holy Spirit and rapture-ready.
Read your Bible everyday and talk to our creator about everything and make Him your best Friend and share this GOOD NEWS = GOSPEL with others.
