    Had a go at this but omitted the red flecks in the upper sky by opting for a yellow ochre wash to create a halo effect. Thank you sharing the technique

      Hi Lisa Lisa! (I assume that is just your first name twice! lol) I love the red too and am amazed how it captures that red that you see at sunrise or sunset and goes really well with the mix of cobalt blue and light red! Happy painting! Cheers Scott

      @@ScottSwinson I can hardly wait to try some of the ideas I’ve watched on your videos. At the moment I have a cast on my right (dominant) hand, but it comes off in 11 days (and counting!) One of the first things I’m going to do is wet a sheet of watercolour paper and play the way you do. You’re a real inspiration, Scott, and I appreciate your generous sharings on UA-cam. Cheers from southern Ontario in Canada.

    Gorgeous colour choices in this one Scott! So evocative!! Have really come to value the muted violet of the Cobalt/Light Red mix I can't make it work well yet but in your hands it's a magic colour.

    • @ScottSwinson

      Hi Starving Artists! Yes I do love that colour! It is unfortunate that cobalt blue is a series 4 paint!! ouch!! $$$$$ but I do love that combination of cobalt blue and light red and find it difficult not to use somewhere in a painting! Cheers Scott

    Brand spank'en new to water colors. Found your channel on The University of UA-cam as I was searching to learn what I could. Joined your Patreon and I'm really looking forward to learning from you. Your style and technique have really grabbed me. My previous experience is in acrylics, as an abstract and paint pouring artist. If my husband oks it, I want to purchase Jervis Bay. I'm really loving the atmosphere, movement and color in this painting. Just sucking up all your videos here. Thanks sooooo.... much for sharing.

      Hi Sue! Thanks so much for joining Patreon! I really appreciate it! I will send you some links of videos that are good to watch to begin with to understand the medium of watercolour and some exercises to start with. You do have to learn how to walk before you can run in watercolour but it is a very understandable medium once you get to know it! And of course you are more than welcome to buy one of my artworks!! that would be amazing! At the tier you joined you will be able to download the high quality jpegs of two paintings that you can get printed for personal use! Any questions feel free to get in touch. I will send you a welcome message. Cheers Scott

    Hi Scott, I'm so enjoying your unique painting styles. What colours would you suggest for the red earth of the Northern territory? Would you please do a tutorial on a landscape from there featuring the bright blue skies and red earth?

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Deanne! I am really glad you are enjoying the videos. Light red is pretty good as a red earth colour for up north and I might mix that with a bit of raw umber, burnt umber or another red to create different colours.

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  3 роки тому

      Hi Lulu 2! Yes I could give it a go! It was painted quite a few years ago and is modelled from a JMW Turner Oil Painting of the burning of the houses of parliment. I have no idea if I could paint it again! I could give it a go sometime! I'll add it to the list of videos to make! That painting will never be for sale as it reminds me to take risks and to just experiment as you never know what you might be able to produce if you just dive off the cliff! Cheers Scott

      Hi Ruth! Thanks! For me I am often too tired to paint at the end of a full day at work as a Physio then dinner, bath, bed for two children then I start painting about 8pm. The funny thing is that painting gives me energy do even when I’m exhausted I have to remind myself of that. I have to say starting this UA-cam has really helped! I have to produce a video every week and do I paint! Taking the choice out of the equation has really helped me! Maybe you should start a channel! 👍👍👍 happy painting! And yes will do some trees some time! 👍

    I have just found your channel. Your very wet paper does not look like it buckles very much. Do you wet the back before you tspe down thanks

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Christine! I didn’t wet the back the time but I have in the past. It doesn’t buckle because it is only attached at the top so it is able to expand in 3 directions which means it stays flat. Then I should probably pin it out so it does not warp as I dry it! 👍 hope you like the channel! 👍

    • @christineravenscroft1453
      @christineravenscroft1453 3 роки тому +1

      Thanks. Is it only these large sheets that are only taped 1 side? I use a3 or a4 and every tutor wants all sides taped down, but l hate the troughs that develop. Ill have to try this.

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  3 роки тому

      Hi Christine, I do both. If I’m painting something that won’t require me to wet the page as much I’ll tape down all sides. If it is going to get saturated you could try only taping one side. There are no rules! Just consequences! You can decide! And you can do that for a4, a3 etc! You can even try not taping it down at all! Just wet both sides and put it in some glass! 👍👍👍

    Scott, this painting you've made here is not only beautiful but the way you did it gives me confidence to make an effort to paint something beautiful too...!
    I can hear the gigantic relentless rainfall there, YIKES! - are you hopefully not in the areas that are being overwhelmed by flooding?

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  3 роки тому +2

      Hi dragonfly! thanks! I know some people say that I make it look easy when it is not and I agree that many of the actions I take are automatic and unconscious because I understand the medium, but on the other hand if you followed every step I took you would not really need to understand the medium that much to copy and then learn from that. For me I love bold, simple landscapes that are evocative and so I don't get bogged down in detail because that does not interest me. Detail does not speak to my heart. But colours and light do. Good luck having a go at this. I will do a small scale one at some stage so people wanting to do something similar but on a smaller scale can copy. Cheers Scott
