    Great vid brother. I run a 1972 CT70 with everything wired but the turn signals. I’ve been wanting to wire in directionals to it. I’m good with wiring in at the ignition switch for the 12v feed? If so thanks and I’ll do that as you explained. Thanks again brother!

      I intentionally left it out as to not confuse people but it is stated. I did that because more than likely, if someone is doing this they will have aftermarket signals. That means the could be self grounding or have an actual ground lead. I did make a second video that shows the circuit being made in real time though. I try my best to explain things but sometimes I reckon I don't do a good job. Lol.
      But thanks for the support! I'm glad you like my videos. I'll be uploading another one on rebuilding a cv carb tomorrow.

    How does this work if your bike has running lights up front, what powers the rear lights? The switch?

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  Рік тому +1

      The running lights are powered from a constant ignition source. The turn signals are fed power from the relay, with a switch in between. You can put front and rear signals tied together to get front and rear to work with each other.

      If I understand correctly, it sounds like when you turn on your turn signals, both sides flash. This is usually because all lights are not installed or dont have enough resistance. If you are using LED bulbs you MUST have all of them installed for the circuit to work correctly. The circuit is based on resistance. If the resistance is not correct it will malfunction. As for your ground, If the lights you are using are just turn signals, then they will have either 1 or 2 wires. If they have 2 wires then onne is your ground. If there is only one wire then they are self grounding.

    3 wire led lights signals will work fine or i can disconnect the turn signals and allow for running lights cant get both to work together?
    Any advice? 86 honda shadow 700

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  Рік тому

      Great question. The running lights need to have constant power. Not power from the relay. If you are using a 3 wire system then you'll have no problem. But a two wire system can only be either or unless you create a 3rd circuit using resistors and a diode.

    • @matthewbeaver5026

      @@ThrashTestDummies its 3 wire just like the original (though led)
      As soon as i connect the turn signal wire (still off) it cuts out my running light.
      Idk if this has to do with the indicator light on the 'dash', something to do with honda running things weird. Ive read that it flows through the indicator over to the side not in use to get its ground. Being led these lights will only allow for one direction of flow.
      Im about to the point of sayin screw it and loosing the running lights ive been screwing with it for weeks.

    Is there any diodes in line usually? I have an indicator issue. ok. Engine off indicators work in all positions at the switch. Turn engine on indicators stop working. But if i turn on my headlights all indicators work again?

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  3 роки тому

      Not usually. The diodes and resistors are what turn led turn signals and brake lights into two phase lights. Meaning two varied brightnesses. Thats all in the light itself most of the time.

    What makes all 4 turn signals work when u push left or right the all blink like hazard lights

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  2 роки тому

      I'm not sure whether you are asking how to wire hazard lights, or how this circuit works. If you are wanting to wire hazard lights there are a couple ways to do it. One being to run the power out from the relay (flasher) to a separate switch or button which would then take the place of the power to that switch, then wire the power coming out to all 4 lights. The other way would be to wire all 4 lights to a separate pole on a 3 position switch. This would make two poles operate left and right signals, then the third pole would operate the flashers.
      If you are confused as to how this circuit actually works, I have another video that further explains it. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask. Thanks for watching!

    Nice bike. I have a question. I hope you can help me. My turn signals don’t turn on at all. I get 12 volts at the blinkers conector for a few seconds but then it drops to 0.34 volts. The fuse is good and the switch looks good too. I check the flasher relay and it shows continuity. What could be the problem? It’s a 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  3 роки тому +1

      I may be understanding you wrong, but if I do understand you correctly it seems like you may have a short somewhere. Either that or bad lights. The voltage drop, however, is normal. If you think of electrical component in terms of components that control water, your wiring is like the pipes. A relay is like a valve that allows short bursts of water to flow through as the amount of water builds. like a switch turning on and off. However, if there isnt enough current to turn it on and off they can turn on for a second, then turn off without the proper resistance in the circuit. I would check the simplest things first. like your bulbs. Make sure all 4 are good. If they are, move inward toward your harness. check for all power and ground and make sure there are no shorts. If all that checks out check your relay to make sure it is not stuck. If you have any questions about how to do any of these things feel free to ask.

    • @TheMaximomex
      @TheMaximomex 3 роки тому

      @@ThrashTestDummies Thanks. I check the bulbs and they are good. I will check the wires harness next. I hope to find a wire shorted to ground or a burn wire or something. I just realized that the previous owner of the bike had switch a couple of fuses with fuses with greater amperage. There was a 30 amp fuse where a 15 amp fuse is supposed to be and a 25 amp fuse where a 10 amp fuse should go. When I put the right size fuses in there they shorted out right away. I think the previous owner new about the problem and instead of looking for a short in the electrical system he just added bigger fuses. Smfh.

    Hello, how can i convert from US style turn signal always on to only flashing turn signal(EU style) ? They are working fine but i want them to be off and work only when i switch to that side. Thx!

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  2 роки тому

      So if I understand you correctly, you are wanting to only have light from your signal come on with your turn signal, meaning no running lights. If that is what you want, all you need to do is find the wire that is constant with ignition power on, then remove it on a 3 wire setup. The process will be the same on a 2 wire self grounding setup where the signal housing provides the ground. And if you have a single wire, just connect that wire to the wire from your turn signal switch. If any of this is unclear feel free to comment back and I will try my best to help you through it!
      Thanks for watching!

    What about 2 pin relays? How are you supposed to wire those into the system?

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  3 роки тому +1

      Most 2 pin relays would be the same as 3 pin but they do not require a ground. so from the battery it would go fuse, relay, turns signal switch, and then from the switch to the respective turn signals. The example I gave in the video was of a 3 pin simpley because most people are familiar with +/- wiring and 3 pin relays are very easy to find.

    Probably should have mentioned that the switch and turn signals are grounded also but a good instructional video

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  3 роки тому +1

      the switch is not grounded if you have a 3 pole 3 position switch. Usually, the center post is power in (from relay) and each outside post is power out (to each turn signal). And depending on the type of turn signals you have, they may or may not need to be grounded via ground wire. this is why I did not mention it. But good job at paying attention!

    • @ThrashTestDummies

      You would connect the resistor on the power side. You can do each one individually or put a single resistor on the power out wire from the relay. But before doing that I'd check to make sure the relay is working properly.

      This video was intended to show how the turn signals work with the relay and a switch. Running lights will depend on whether or not the turn signals you use are just turn signals or have running lights. If you are confused, I recently did a revision of this video where I actually make the circuit using live components.

    As shown there is no flasher module. There will be no flash of the actuated turn signal and will stay on continuously until the switch is turned back to the off position. In the case of a momentary switch, it will stay on and continuously until released. In any case it will not flash. There should be a fuse placed before the relay on all circuits of this design. Wire in a 2 pin flasher just after the relay.
