Ammo can coffee kit?! Yess!! So grateful for a shot of Arizona sunshine. It’s -46 deg C here so UA-cam & dreaming is the closest I’ll get to camping for a few months. Vitamin D through screen osmosis. 😎
I'm glad you brought up that vehicle noise mystery. I do a lot of suv camping in my 2015 Toyota Highlander & it makes the same bazaar tiny motor running noise, seemingly in the back end. It always made me nervous because I thought, 💭 great if this doesn't stop it's going to deplete my battery. (It goes for a few minutes & then shuts off thankfully.) Odd thing though, it isn't an every day noise after I shut the rig down, it runs about once a week. Thanks for posting your google search results on this mystery noise.👍That ammo box coffee kit is a cute little must-have on cold mornings in your rig I bet.👌 Thx 4 the good video!
@ShoestringMartha long ago I had a Lincoln that made that noise...1 mechanic said it was the electric fuel pump resetting....another said it was the load leveler air bags resetting. I have no idea...did it all the long time I drove it....till the axle broke and I got rid of it
I gave up on sleeping bags when I discovered wool blankets - recommended by Bob Wells. No more tangles and zippers. Have not used my electric blanket since.
I love your 4runner build, I wish i'd known about your channel sooner, as i'd incorporate many of your ideas on Bluto, my 2017 SR5. Anywho, my wife and I really enjoy your channel. Keep at it!
They only have a limited number of sites, so it definitely fills up. But the way the sites are arranged and with the vegetation and structures between them, it doesn’t feel crowded.
Your entire setup is genius Ms Martha but the thing about your no build / build that I absolutely marvel at are those two panels you have in the back windows those two functional panels. I would love to put at least one of those in the back window of my minivan I'm going to try to figure out something based off of your idea. I love everything you do you are an amazing person!!❤
I enjoyed this adventure quite a bit. The only thing I wouldn't care for is the shooting while out exploring.😕 So good to see you out with Gunther again. ❤ I got a laugh out of your morning "rave" 😅 I'm looking forward to the pie-iron video. 😊👍
You will also hear a noise when you turn off the vehicle shortly afterwards. This is the secondary air Injection pump coming on to clear out/blow out any debris/water etc. In the earlier years when they introduced the secondary air Injection pump/emission reasons, when it was not being used while driving, it could fill up or get water in them and cause problems later on. So they have it clear itself out when you turn off the truck. Like a zoom noise. This is a great link to understand in detail your 5th gen 4Runner engine. This guy has a 6 video series on the 4Runner, this is a link to the first/engine. He's was master mechanic for Toyota 20+ years and now ventured out on his own and opened up his own shop. Toyotas/Lexus exclusively. Love your videos as usual. I was where you were this time last year. Getting ready to take mine and go from Atlanta to tour BigBend, Guadalupe, Carlsbad national parks and then northern New Mexico forests. I implement some of your items and techniques on last years trip. However, I am not a foodie. I am boring when it comes to diet while disperse camping. I have mentioned this in the past on some of your videos. Love Gunther as always. Looking for a traveling rescue myself. If the link I provided does not work, search "Should you buy a Toyota 4Runner? Why is it so reliable?" UA-cam. You may already know this stuff, you are well versed on just about anything! ua-cam.com/video/wDeLFAAJCyk/v-deo.htmlsi=Xx2zpVBnw6lZMA-u
Good to hear from you and thanks for the channel suggestion! I'll check it out. I also like @VikingsGarage for 4Runner intel. I'm thinking about some mods, so I've been doing a lot more self-education lately. Your itinerary sounds amazing, and best of luck finding an adventure buddy. Stay patient; the right one will come along at just the right time. At least, that's how it happened with Gunther.
@@ShoestringMartha actually, I’ve seen quite a few of his videos and follow, that’s how I found your site kind of. I was just googling information on 4Runners, and for some reason yours came up and then you do things that I’m interested on top of that. Double win!
I get that sound as well on my 4Runner. Asked about it in a 4Runner group and forgot what the explanation is but it’s totally normal and nothing to worry about.
Love that HipCamp (minus the barking dogs). 😂 But, from what I’ve seen on the Internet, I believe your superflame issue with your little butane heater is due to the can laying on its side. Apparently, canisters need to be kept vertical for proper operation. Something to check out.
Thank you! That sounds about right. Upright, it tends to sputter, so I tried it on the side. The first time, it behaved normally. They next time, flamethrower! It's been suggested to me that if it's on its side, the notch should be up, like in a camp stove. I hope to get around to doing some testing, to verify.
Really like your content..and process. I must have missed it somehow.. The ammo box coffee kit- your idea /build ? please share the how or where. thanks-Angela
What a great place. That camp space is beautiful..absolute perfection. So good to see little Mr G back out n about. I have a dumb question. What please is a hip camp? Not sure what that means. Sorry im an old woman..lol. Thank you. I looked on your lists but can't find the thing I want to know about. That tiny STANLEY cup with screw lid you keep your coffee in.
No dumb questions here! Hipcamp is basically AirBnB for camping. People who have land can offer it up for camping: hipcamp.com/i/shoestringmartha My coffee container is the carrying case for the shotglasses in this set: amzn.to/3OpCYlp
@ShoestringMartha Awesome..thank you!! I looked on Amazon there's a container made by thermos about the same size..wide mouth. Think I'll get it for my coffee. I don't drink so no need for the cute bar set. Thank you for the info
You were in my hood. Ironwood is a good place for astrophotoghy but can be a little shady. I always take protection and recommend going with a friend. Border Patrol is usually out there. Looking forward to you getting your drone up, they're a lot of fun.
I have read lots of warnings about that area. I figured during the day, and not very far in, I would be OK. But hell, I couldn't even get in! I know there were other entrances up the road, but I was running out of time, and kinda over it at that point. 😑
Hi! I just found your channel and I am loving your content! I bought a 2023 4Runner TRD last summer (I had 2014 previously) and have been doing some public land camping in central and northern FL. Looking at your 4Runner build has given me some ideas for improving my setup. I have had a Napier SUV tent for a while, but honestly it is getting to be a bit too heavy for one person to manage. So, I ordered the Sportz Cove that I saw that you were using. I already have a Luno air mattress for the back of the 4Runner. I'm glad to see that Gunther has recovered well from his bladder stone surgery. I travel with 2 Frenchies, Ivy and Gus. Ivy had the same surgery this past November. It took her a while to recover as she is 9. How do you protect Gunther from fleas and ticks when you are out camping with him? Looking forward to more great content!
Two Frenchies - wow - bravo to you 👏 Our other pup is a young frenchie and total NUT. I couldn’t imagine containing him in the 4Runner 😂 Fleas and ticks aren’t much of an issue in Arizona, so I do nothing. However, we have plans to travel out east, and he’ll be on a monthly oral treatment before we head out.
@@ShoestringMartha Thank you for responding :). Ivy is pretty much a "potato" and stays where you put her. Gus on the other hand is a little over 2 years old and can be a challenge, especially with his "selective hearing". He is pretty good in the truck though. I started them both out young as puppies and we've gone on lots of road trips. I keep the 2nd row of seats up with a protective quilt on them and they have a doggy seatbelt that keeps them in their seat. At night they sleep in the back with me without any problems. During the day, Ivy can stay in the camp by herself and she's fine. I have to take Gus with me if I go out walking though as he'd probably destroy the inside of the 4Runner 🤣
This video isn’t suitable for young people 🤷♀️ way too much alcohol 😢 It’s up to you what you’re doing to your health, just showing such bad habits in an outdoor video? Don’t think it’s appropriate!
anneli1735 - this is her channel, I appreciate the videos she posts. Having a few drinks shows you don't need to get wasted to have a good time. If anything, this shows young people that moderate drinking is better than getting totally drunk.
Not good to be such a prude with your children that a responsible adult casually imbibing while camping would get ur nickers in a twist. (Life can be a grueling bitch at times, maybe it'd be good for your kids to see how to responsibly unwind a bit, it'd get them ready for LIFE! This world isn't a Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, shielding kids from every seemingly negative thing without facing & explaining it to them does them a huge disservice.)
Hello!
1st!!!
Looks like you found another cool place to camp!
Good to see Gunther back with you again! He looks well, glad he's healing.

Rave in the morning, lol! Nice quick trip. Love the mini fire pit 😁. Thanks for taking us along, cheers!!
This camp ground is well maintained, this it would be a place anyone can got to camp and feel safe

The irony of me "fixing" it by turning on the ignition, which just resets it and makes it start up again in a few hours. 😂

I just wish I could find a narrow one - like 30” max. I don’t like a lot of overhang 😕
