Just pulled apart the rear brake on my new-to-me Yamaha bruin 350 and found the rear end bearings and seals toast. Great info in this video, will help me rebuild the rear diff....Thanks for posting it up!
awesome vid and explanation of rebuilding the diff. haven't even finished the while vid yet but the tips with the shims is crucial that all the other vids I've watched have left out. nice job!
MIne is a 1998 Big Bear 350, When I took my rear diff off, inside the drive shaft tube has some surface rust and so does the drive shaft. The splines look good. Can I put some Evapo Rust Krud Kutter in the tube and on the drive shaft, then wash it out with engine degreaser? Also I was thinking of lifting the rear end up so that the drive shaft is close to vertical and putting some engine oil or diff fluid in the drive shaft tube to keep it from rusting again. Would the drive shaft tube and rubber boot hold the oil or diff fluid? thanks.
Does anybody know where the serial number for the rear diff is on the 1998 big bear 350 4wd? I have ordered the All Balls Racing rear diff seal and bearing kit from Partzilla and it has the wrong bearing. I sent it back and they sent another and it still has the wrong bearing. I talked to someone at All Balls Racing and he says that it is the right bearing. He thinks that the previous owner replaced the rear diff with one from different model. When I bought it, it was only 5-6years old so I don't think it was. I am trying to get in touch with the guy I bought it from but that was 18 years ago.
working on a 99 wolverine with same diff - just started - is there a bearing in the end of the swingarm as well - behind or in my disk brake housing? havent looked to hard but the schematics show 2 rear bearings - i ordered both with seals but found loose balls behind the disk caliper bracket
If you could reference me a video of the axel being removed, my 93 timberwolf same layout except not just push it through seems very hard to remove..tc
How does the bearing come off the pinion shaft has another piece in front shaped like a bearing don't spin tho I got the lock nut off finally need help with bearing removal info
I rebuilt the diff just as you did and when I connect it to the drive shaft it is binding up and will not spin. It spins fine when not connected but when I connect it will not turn. I have checked all of the shims and took everything back apart. Still the same. Do you have any suggestions?? I am out of ideas. Thanks
Hello, I was watching your video. I was wondering what problem my son might have. He has a 1995 Timberwolf 2t0 with 4x4. The rear wheel s don't drive just the front ?? Someone said they all have a same problem. But I am wondering , What that problem would be "?
There was still one ring left on your cloth that was on the right uppper side of the screen. Was that a replaced part or was it a spacer that was supposed to be re-installed also...?
Would this same procedure apply to a 2005 Bruin 350 4X4 ? The Bruin differential looks just like this one. Reason being my coworker wants to sell me one. Says there is oil leakage on top of the differential. But it also making an ungodly noise. So I think the bearing is bad as well. But he says the rear end is not slipping or clunking. Also why didn't you replace the pinion bearing and seal while you were at it? There is a piece that requires tool with four notches to remove the collar.. I've heard you can use a punch and hammer and tap it sideways.
Thanks for the reply. I guess if push comes to shove, I can replace all the other bearings but have the Yamaha dealership replace the pinion bearing and seal.
hey mark, I heard you say that you need a special wrench to change the pinion gear seal and bearing. i'm redoing all my bearings and seals. I have watched other videos but they don't show you how change that. can you let me know how and where I can get this wrench?
How does the bearing come off the pinion shaft has another piece in front shaped like a bearing don't spin tho I got the lock nut off finally need help with bearing removal info
On top of the diff, the breather tube, is it suppose to screw in or anything ? think thats how water got in my diff, but nobody talks about it, any info? thanks.Oh btw awesome video !
you would ruin the bearing. If your replacing it you could. I would heat up the outside where the bearing makes contact but you would want to replace the bearing if your going to heat it up.

I rebuilt my 1995 bear rear end successfully after watching your video. Thank you!
Thanks for the video, I’ve got my 1997 kodiak rear torn apart and this video was great confirmation of how to get the bearings out. Thanks!!!
Great video, this is a big help, watched the whole thing twice.
Dude, thank you so much. I just traded my Savage LS650 for one of these and it needed the seals and bearings.

Thanks, Mark. Great video. Hopefully it'll lead me to changing the rear seals on my 1997 Kawasaki Prairie 400!
ive got oil leaking out of the left side of my 2000 prairie 2x4 rear diff. hopefully its an easy fix
I am looking at doing this on my 1995 Yamaha 350 Big bear. Very informative and educational.
Thanks
Great video man! Thanks!
Do you have a video on how to replace pinion seal? Step by step. Thank you.
this was very helpful thanks for posting
Head of hammer falls off... had to take a second to regain my composure from laughing! good video dude.
GOOD JOB....THANKS FOR POSTING
Excellent video! !

nice video. any chance you have one showing the replacement of that pinion gear? im stumped on separating the inner race from the bore
I'm curious too
Man i wish you had a video of a 2005 kodiak rear end rebuild. mine has developed a clicking noise. time to replace. I plan on rebuilding the old one.

What size insert did you use to drive the seals and bearings out.

I am having the exact same problem. Did you ever get an answer on how to remove the collar on the pinion shaft that prevents the bearing coming off?

It sounds like there is something wrong with the differential or the drive shaft. I would start there
I agree with the procedure. The installing of the bearings was not correct. Should have used a press or the correct size seal driver
How do you get that gear off the cover??? I have all the bearings but cant get that dam thing off.
Your body shop called. They want their hammer back😂
There was still one ring left on your cloth that was on the right uppper side of the screen. Was that a replaced part or was it a spacer that was supposed to be re-installed also...?
that was a o ring for the other side of the axel tube. brake side

ITS pretty much the same, the only thing you won't be able to do is the pinion bearings they take specialty tools to remove the bearings.
Thanks for the reply. I guess if push comes to shove, I can replace all the other bearings but have the Yamaha dealership replace the pinion bearing and seal.
do you remember which allballs kit it was ive got the same one
What’s a good way to get the seal and bearings out with out a bearing seal drive
I just use a socket that fits nicely on the edge of the seal and bearing
hey mark, I heard you say that you need a special wrench to change the pinion gear seal and bearing. i'm redoing all my bearings and seals. I have watched other videos but they don't show you how change that. can you let me know how and where I can get this wrench?
+Derek Perkins check ebay for a tool that fits your machine. that's where I go to first.
Okay, thanks Mark for the information.

the short metal tube should be pressed in the rear then the rubber hose attaches to that.
thanks
The bearing at 7:19 , i cant get out, would it hurt if i heated the bearing itself?
you would ruin the bearing. If your replacing it you could. I would heat up the outside where the bearing makes contact but you would want to replace the bearing if your going to heat it up.
Donde puedo yo conseguir un diferencial completo amigos
Any one have a video in how to get the axel out
Hammer + finger = Ouch!!!!
That's not a differential, it's just a bevel gear.
It's more of a spool locker setup.
