I loved how they managed to always get a “well known” actor to play the villains on this show! I loved the Joker,Penguin,Riddler,Egg Head and Catwoman the best! GREAT SHOW 👍❤️👍❤️
There are several comments here saying it would be nice to know the actors who played these villains, and I have to agree. A little Internet research should take care of that...
Joker: Cesar Romero
Catwoman: Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt (Lee Meriwether, shown first, was in "Batman: The Movie" only)
Penguin: Burgess Meredith
Riddler: Frank Gorshin, John Astin
Mad Hatter: David Wayne
Mr. Freeze: George Sanders, Otto Preminger, Eli Wallach
Clock King: Walter Slezak
King Tut: Victor Buono
Egghead: Vincent Price
False Face: Malachi Throne
Bookworm: Roddy McDowall
Bluebeard: Gil Perkins (From "Batman: The Movie," not the TV show)
Colonel Gumm: Roger C. Carmel
Marsha, Queen of Diamonds: Carolyn Jones
The Archer: Art Carney
The Siren: Joan Collins
The Minstrel: Van Johnson
Ma Parker: Shelley Winters
Zelda the Great: Anne Baxter
Louie the Lilac: Milton Berle
Lola Lasagne: Ethel Merman
Lord Marmaduke Ffogg: Rudy Vallee
Lady Penelope Peasoup: Glynis Johns
Shame: Cliff Robertson
Puzzler: Maurice Evans
Chandell: Liberace
Black Widow: Tallulah Bankhead
Sandman: Michael Rennie
Dr. Cassandra Spellcraft: Ida Lupino
Cabala: Howard Duff
Nora Clavicle: Barbara Rush
Minerva: Zsa Zsa Gabor
Killer Moth: Tim Herbert (not from the "Batman" TV series)
As a kid I use to watch this show every week. Loved it .❤❤
RIP Adam West.
we will miss you.
there is no other Batman there only can be one Adam West Batman.
Aw 1966 when things weren’t dark and broody and they were pretty silly.
Just some fun facts, Bookworm's actor went on to narrate the audiobook of the 1989 Batman novel and voice Mad Hatter on the DC Timmverse, and Frank Gorshin(The Riddler) voiced Hugo Strange on The Batman animated series
I had forgotten that both Gomez and Morticia Addams did guest shots on Batman. Thanks!
O.k. Bluebeard was a surprise. But you even had Killer Moth from the unaired test footage for Batgril. When you say every you ain't kidding.
Thank you good citizen, for compiling such a thorough list of adversaries I had to contend with over the years. Your research and chronological order in which it's presented, is clearly a job well done boy wonder! Keep up the good work .
They left out most of the henchmen and women assistants. Maybe they will be in Part 2.
Not really, the Riddler was the first one not The Joker.
Although I knew most of the actors who played the parts, a lot of younger viewers won't so my suggestion is to put the actors' names in as well, particularly when several actors played the part as with Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, and The Riddler.
I agree! 👍
I was honestly amazed they got Burgess Meredith to play as the Penguin. He's actually one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood history, having played in hundreds of movies all the way back since the 1920's. He's been in it least two dozen 5* movies on top of that!
I think I saw Michael Rennie from War of the Worlds.
@Milton Bradley Burgess Meredith was in there also.
@@maelwine1 The Obsolete Man was one of my favorite TZ episodes.
@@maelwine1 Michael Rennie as "Klaatu" from "The Day The Earth Stood Still" circa 1951.
Burgess Meredith was awesome!
I forgot how many accomplished actors played the villans. What fun they must have had.
Susan Hamercheck Yes it became a status symbol for big-name actors to appear as villains at the time. Another reason why the series remains so entertaining.
And if I remember right wasn't Liberace on it as well 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@MrVideovibes In the 60s, it was Batman. In the 70s, it was the Muppet Show. In the 90s, it was the Simpsons. TV is so fragmented now, I don't think there will be another show that even the big names want to be on.
@@jessicastiner2123 Yes, Liberace is listed in this group.
@@jessicastiner2123
Yes, he played two roles: Chandell and his brother Harry.
Loved to have seen Raquel Welch as Poison Ivy, she would have been great.
.... yeah, or how about Clint Eastwood as Two-Face?
Tor Johnson as Bane.
Eartha Kitt was purrrrfect.
Thanks for posting it !! I was a little boy and saw the first exibition of Batman here in SÃO PAULO - BRAZIL !! It's a pleasure to see all the villians in the tube here. R.I.P., Adam West, R.I.P., almost all of them !
I thought that I remembered all the villains from the Batman series. You proved me wrong. Thanks for posting.
Still Burgess as the ultimate Pengy!
There were two missing. Although they were technically heroes, they were considered arch villains. They were The Green Hornet and Kato.
Good catch!
Add to that, Lee Meriwether as Catwoman in the theatrical release of "Batman".
@@oldrocker74 Wasn’t that Lee at 42 seconds?
Olga, Queen of the Cossacks was also absent.
Thank you for sharing that extraordinary cast of characters !
You will never see the likes of that type of television viewing ever again !
gotta love bookworm. his crime? failed to return books on time to the library
So underrated
Bookworm had a great costume, too.
Man, the 60’s were WEIRD.
You thought that was weird there were a group of protesters who are protesting about the Kennedy's shetland pony for being naked 🐎🐎🐎🐎
What about Miss Anne Baxter turn as a villanous, as "Olga, Queen of the Besarovian Kosaks", who helped "Egghead" in Season 3?
Yep, Anne Baxter was the only performer to play two different villains: Zelda and Olga.
Riddler was always my favourite Frank gorshin was the reason I went as Riddler for Halloween
To me there was only one Catwoman. The gorgeous Julie Newmar.
Oldrocker74, John Astin guest-starred as the Riddler towards the end of the 2nd season; Frank Gorshin returned in the 3rd season.
The Puzzler was also a replacement for The Riddler and was even mentioned in The movie with Jim Carrey.
I read somewhere that they wanted to include Two-Face in the show, but felt like he would be too scary for kids.
@@nathanharris6450 plus having Star Trek icon William Shatner voicing Two-Face for the animated movie.
@Eric Lewis Scarecrow appeared in the cartoon based on this show.
And Poison Ivy was introduced in the comics around the time this show ended. So it was too late to include her
Gameking poisin ivy was introduced a year before the show aired
There were plans to have Clint Eastwood play Harvey Dent/Two Face, but the producers thought that a severely scarred villain would be too intense for the young audience, so that idea was shelved. I would have cast Tony Curtis if I had the chance; I think he would've been great.
I’m pretty sure that is why they used False Face initially, he was more or less the Two Face stand in
So many great character actors in the 60s - got me to thinking who could play great campy Batman villains if it was remade today? Jeff Goldblum as Bookworm....John Malkovich as Mr. Freeze?
I'm not sure who they would play, but Nicolas Cage and Colin Firth (trust me, he'd probably do it just so he doesn't get typecast) would be great.
Eartha Kitt was the sexiest Catwoman on the show of all 3 actresses who played her.
PULL THE LEVER, KRONK
Holy supper villains Batman !
vaderboy121 what did you have for supper? Or did you mean super?
well done! i’d forgotten about some of those.
if you could come up with a collage of the themes played for each villain (some used the same one, i know), i’d really enjoy it!
i saw the series when it was live, so that dates me.
All
The 1966 Batman series was the best of the best of all the Batman's the originality is second to none beats the movie versions too
Fun Fact: The actor who played Mad Hatter was named David Wayne and that is ironic because he shared the same last name as Adam West’s Bruce Wayne/Batman.
I am digging the theme song remix.
Great lineup of all the villains! perhaps for the next time you do one of the any other villains, perhaps saying the actor or actress in the description who played that particular villain. Even though I know most of them would be nice to have actor or actress name. for example we all know that Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt both played as Catwoman. Just a thought and hopefully something you might incorporate. Other than that thanks for the trip down memory lane and great job :-)
The music was perfect. Those horns were great.
We lost 2 more just this year:
- Lady Penelope Peasoup (Glynis Johns) died Jan 4, 2024.
- Nora Clavicle (Barbara Rush) died March 31, 2024.
R.I.P.
Julie Newmar was so beautiful as Catwoman.
I wish she were fine.
There are not enough Frank Gorshin episodes, he was by far the best !!!
The Minstril had a motorized bike he called the Minstril Cycle ha ha ha!!!!!!
These villains look like I can beat them by just looking at them lol
T
Ok, millennial
@@eduardo_corrochio just admit it it's true
@@thepowerwithin3483 Not going to admit it, sorry ... but I enjoy your spunky persistence
@@eduardo_corrochio Thanks
Julie Newmar as Catwoman. 😍
Freddy The Fence...
Enjoyed this, Falco. Nice work. As I was watching it, I started thinking, damn, I KNOW that person! What was that actor's name again? Ever watch old shows and wonder if any of them are still alive?
@@falcofeenstra not many are. Joan Collins and Julie Newmar are the only ones that come to mind as not having passed away
oh wait! John Astin is still with us too I guess
Frank gorshin, burgess meredith, cesar romero, george sanders, anne baxter with jack kruschen, david wayne with diane mcbain, malachi throne, julie newmar, victor buono, roddy mcdowall, art carney, van johnson, shelley winters, walter slezak, vincent price, liberace, otto preminger, carolyn jones with estelle winwood, cliff robertson, maurice evans, michael rennie, john astin, jacques bergerac, roger carmel van williams bruce lee diane mcbain, tallulah bankhead, eli wallach, joan collins, ethel merman, milton berle, ruddy vallee w glynis johns, eartha kitt, barbara rush, ida lupino, zsazsa gabor with jacques bergerac
+Clement Ng The Green Hornet & Kato are technically allies rather than villains. Also, check out the Green Hronet/Batman '66 crossover comic book which brought back Colonel Gumm which teamed up with the Joker to take their enemies down.
Clayface (Basil Karlo) 1st appeared in June 1940,They should’ve added clayface in this show to add villain team
He was added in the cartoon based on this show
I had always thought that False Face was supposed to be a homage to Basil Karlo's Clayface.
É verdade recordar ó passado e viver feliz no presente e construir um futuro melhor.
My three faves were always Burgess Meredith, Cesar Romero and Frank Gorshin but Eartha Kitt was the tops of all the female villains.
I'm glad that I grew up with Batman TAS... 😂
Without this Tas would have never been made
I grew up with both
I Only remember;
Joker (Sometimes Guest Villian)
Catwoman
The Riddler
The Penguin
King Tut
False Face
The Mad Hatter
EggHead
Mr Freeze
Clock King
The Black Widow
Colonel Gumm (From the ep with the Green Hornet and Kato)
The rest i dosen't had any idea of theme
Holy Legion of Doom!
Where is Olga Queen of the Cossacks,Calamity Jan?
That's what I say too. I think in beginning credits it is mentioned "special guest villainous Calamity Jane" in episode with Shame??? Don't know about Killer Moth? Or BlueBeard though?
And Harry Mudd!
Nice Job. It's too bad you didn't put the name of the actors and actresses who played the parts. Maybe next time?
Julie Newmar…purr-fect!!!
Eivol ekdol, not zelda was the main villain, the only story without a big fight with henchman i believe?
You forgot about the Nora Clavicle story, no fight at all!
Wait a minute. I didn't see Eivol Ekdol, the evil Albanian Genius.
he was with Zelda the great
I never missed a show i am a Batman fan forever 😂
Also rip Adam West, You were one of the best Batmen
Most episodes stories, joker, penguin, catwoman, riddler ten or more, tut eight, tied four or five episodes egghead mad hatter marsha shame anne baxter, freeze six episodes three actors, three episodes ffogg, louie lilac, two episodes each false face bookworm archer minstrel ma parker clock king chandell colonel gumm and green hornet black widow, siren , minerva cassandra, nora clavicle one episode each, freddy fence two separate episodes as accomplice, diane mcbain four episodes two separate stories as accomplice or high profile supporting actress. Also ethel merman, michael rennie characters, aunt hilda five episodes with marsha, puzzler could be counted as riddler, as could bookworm.
Always disappointed me that Batgirl never really slugged it out with any of the female villians. Dumb decision by the makers of the series
Yeah, I woulda paid good money to see batgirl and zsa zsa gabor throwing hands at each other
@SRV. 123 dude what
Joker, false face, riddler, catwoman and king tut was my fav back then
I'm sorry but when I see (David Wayne?) the Mad Hatter I am immediately reminded of Ronnie Corbett in a Two Ronnies sketch
I was ten years old when I first saw batman on black and white TV that then was my favorite show.
Yeah b&w tv and it started out with "The Following Program Is In Living Color". We said yeah that's a lie.
I think the Siren is lovely
Delightfully obscure and exhaustive. Dying to see full episodes of these also-ran arch villains like Killer Moth, Sandman and the puzzler. And Geez, Chandell is Liberace. Surely that episode has to be out there. Seems like I do remember it as a youngn but anybody know if they actually shot episodes with this entire lot?
I believe the Chandell episode Liberace played 2 characters, the other being his evil twin...
love It
I always thought false face was the replacement of two face
It's more likely that he was a low budget version of Clayface, since both characters are masters of disguise.
IIRC, there were plans for Two-Face to appear, but was scrapped because it was thought he'd be to scary for the kids. I believe that Clint Eastwood was considered for the role.
The penguin is My favorite!
Terrific! Thanks for posting this
Who were the actors who played BLUEBEARD AND COLONEL GUMM?
Don't know about Bluebeard but Col Gumm was played by Roger C. Carmel
Lee Meriwether was only in the movie, not the TV show.
Right. Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt were in the TV series
Julie Newmar was on tv
sorry but ceaser Romero sexy joker I disagree,😍😍😍😍 zombie warrior said so , I hope you don't have a problem with that
I 💘 loved all the villains from Batman 1966
Frank Gorshin as the Riddler was my favorite
The big names that did this show! Wow!
How many special guest villains actors actresses were there and characters?
I don't remember Bluebeard on the show or who played him!!
Agree I say killer Moth was not there either. And they missed out Olga Queen of the Cossacks who teamed with Egghead.
THANKS for posting all of these, I had forgotten some of them........ I suspect that once Batman episodes started airing, appearing as a guest villain/villainess became the "in" thing in Hollywood, and thus, the amazing line of them.
1:51 um thank you I can't sleep know
Nice vid, i still want to know who the female villain Batman and Robin had to deal with in an alley that had multiple arms!
You forgot that vile gangster Green Hornet and his hired thug Kato! Just because the dynamic duo had to briefly team up with them doesn't excuse their villainy!
puur jeugdsentiment. Spaarde jij toen ook batman plaatjes? Geweldige tijd.
Friedrich vanderWart
I like Catwoman played by Julie Newmar. Black Widow played by Tallulah Bankhead. The Riddler played by Frank Gorshin. The penguin played by Burgess Meredith
Cesar Romero the best joker ever,
Missing 1 version of Mr Freeze, Evol Ekdol, Olga, Calamity Jan.
They had all 3 people who played Mr. Freeze on this video.
Evol Ekdol did not get billing as a Special Guest Villian, so technically he doesn't belong on the list.
@@scotts1304 But I remember Olga Queen of the Cossacks did get one in the beginning credits with Egghead & so did Calamity Jane with Shame.
John Astin and Carolyn Jones on Batman! Was this before, during or after the Adams Family? Will miss Adam West RIP.
@Milton Bradley Cassidy did make a cameo as Lurch, his Addams Family character. He pokes his head out of the window during one the cameo Bat climbs.
A great trip down memory lane Thanks so much Would love to know all the famous actors' names
Joker (Cesar Romero), Riddler (Frank Gorshin and John Astin), Penguin (Burgess Meredith), Catwoman - film (Lee Meriwether), Catwoman - TV (Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt [yes, the singer]), Mr. Freeze (George Sanders, Eli Wallach [yes, Tuco, aka "The Ugly"], Otto Preminger [yes, the director]), Shame (Cliff Robertson), Bookworm (Roddy McDowell), Cassandra Spellcraft (Ida Lupino), Louie (Milton Berle), King Tut (Victor Buono), The Black Widow (Talluleh Bankhead - not sure I've got the spelling right on her name), Minerva (Zsa Zsa Gabor), False Face (Malachi Throne), Chandell & Harry (Wladziu Liberace), Siren (Joan Collins), Sandman (Michael Rennie), Colonel Gumm (Roger Carmel, better known as Harry Mudd to Star Trek fans). That's the ones I remember. I'm sure I've forgotten a few.
The Archer (Art Carney), The Minstrel (Van Johnson, I think), Egghead (Vincent Price), Clock King (Walter Slezak), Mad Hatter (David Wayne)
I 'am alive ... TY a million .. XOXOX
Ed Norton as the Archer.....
newt0830 they should have had Jackie Gleason play the Archer's answer to Little John.
Some one did a lot of work.
Nice Music
Adam West is the true Batman! May he R.I.P
No Aunt Hilda, Calamity Jan, Olga, Molly, & Chandell's Brother Harry~ & If you took out the double pics & got a pic of Harry & Chandell Together ~ you can actually make it all work with one video :)
... and don’t forget Poison Ivy
You mentioned Chandel, but you forgot to mention Harry his twin brother.
My goodness I didnt know they had so many villians.
I wish they made the cancelled Two-Face episode. The comic of that episode was cool
King Tut, Falseface and Egghead should be in the cartoon series since they were with the most common villains along with the jocker, penguin, riddler etc
ras al ghul, bane, twoface and the scarecrow were not introduced then
You missed Olga the Great Queen of the Cossacks. Never new Killer Moth or Bluebeard was in it???
The beauty and enduring quality of the show was not only Batman & Robin but the over the top villains they came up with.
(and you do KNOW that Lee Meriwether was NOT in the TV show, but only the movie, right? Julie Newmar deserved a better presence in your video)
I was going to say the same thing about Lee Meriwether.
Ms Meriwether as Catwoman/Kitka in the theatrical release, circa 1966.
I understand they wanted to have Two Face as a villain and to be played by Clint Eastwood, but the show was canceled. I wonder why the Scarecrow wasn’t a featured villain.
while the Scarecrow wasn't seen in the 60s Batman series, one of his tricks however was. When Shame used fear gas on Batman, Robin, and Batgirl
@@twotonedearly that’s right. Thanks. I know the Scarecrow was featured in the animated Batman series from the same decade.
Andi Leonard Currie
Lee Meriwether never appeared as Catwoman on the TV series
