I never understood the ‘cold and stoic’ rhetoric about Nadia. She showcases plenty of joy and levity during after her performance. Sure, she definitely concentrated and wasn’t always smiling, but she wasn’t a robot
I just watched Athlete A last night where it was showed how the coaches trained them. It's horrible! It's based on fear and intense pressure with slapping and neck grabbing. Aside from that, they're under a communist regime at the time. I can totally understand why the athletes from the communist bloc didn't smile that much.

I admire an artist in whatever field who manages to make their performance look/sound effortless.That is achieved by very hard hours of disciplined training. Today very few younger people appreciate that.Smiling and laughing come at the end.of the performance.
Perfect. Love the artistry. Love the precision. Joy to watch. Remember, the floor mats back then had no extra spring in them like today's do. I dedicated my grade 8 speech to this athlete. Nadia and Terry Fox were my childhood heroes. I just don't find the gymnasts of today compare to Nadia's standard of execution.

There will never been another Nadia Comaneci. The level of professionalism, the work ethics, she was so well rounded. It’s no possible to have anyone like her these days and age.
No one will ever hold a candle to Nadia no matter how many medals they win. I wish it was still more about the artistry than the tumbling. I enjoy watching it but miss the artistry today's gymnastics seems to have lost.
There's a certain "float", to my eyes, that Nadia has to her jumps that is remarkable. Saw this in Michael Jordan in ~1989 and in NatGeo shows on snow leopards. Baryshnikov too. There's something uncanny about the movement tho That's the difference for me with Nadia and other favourite gymnasts. Cheers
