      Well they COULD do it ... "safely" (of sorts): ua-cam.com/video/nRxSUkZYeOE/v-deo.html
      There are also these other variants for such a kind of travel method: ua-cam.com/video/-kB-BGMXxZc/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/nj-Iwv5NJKg/v-deo.html
      It all depends upon the amount of money you can spend on the ride.

      They could do a whole ninja course suspended under a bridge across a river ... old ones with a lattice structure are probably best.
      The interesting part about it would be if they set up multiple paths to the other side ... and contestants could choose which one to take.

    The entire purpose of Adrenaline in the body is to give you the energy you need to escape from a life or death situation so blocking your pain is a very important part of what Adrenaline does. We wouldn't be here today without it

    Hi guys, I just wanted to warn you that taking a bad whipper onto a locking carabiner can end up badly if the said carabiner find itself sideway when being loaded (thus being impacted on its low resistance axis). You should tie in directly into the harness with a figure eight knot or if you want to stick with the carabiner, just adding a second one (doesn't need to be a locking one) with opposing gates will do.

    Adrenaline for sure covers pain. I'm sure I learned the mechanism back in med school but it escapes me right now. It's effect is responsible for all the stories you hear about people lifting cars off their kids, or walking away from a car crash with a broken leg.
    Pain massively limits strength as well in that our brain won't let us injure ourselves; people born with conditions which mean they feel no pain are capable of some pretty superhuman acts of strength. I knew a guy who worked as a car mechanic who had this and would lift an entire gear box (transmission) over his head and hold it in place while the other guys secured it. He also pushed a metal spike through his arm to freak out new guys. Not recommended.
    Edited to add: Yay for part 2!

    Some other people already commented on it: (nor)adrenaline indeed reduces the pain. It inhibits the release of neurotransmitters. The neurotransmitters are essential to activate the neurons that make up your nerves system. So by inhibiting (basically blocking) the neurotransmitters, it becomes much harder for your body to give signals - so you feel less pain!
    Although I have to say, I also saw another study that suggested the main reason people feel less pain when there is adrenaline, is because adrenaline is usually released when you are in danger. This means that you're focussing on the danger (in this case: the height) and you don't have much time left to concentrate on the pain. They tested it by giving people adrenaline and then asking them to focus on the pain - they experienced as much pain as people who didn't have adrenaline in their body and focused on the pain.

    At 7:14 when you were belaying in that scene, your right hand was holding the rope the wrong way. If he would have fallen there, you could have had a hard time stopping the rope from running through your device, especially on an ATC-device. Correct hand position should also be maintained when using a Grigri. (I presume they are using a Grigri in that facility).

    • @moonti6820
      @moonti6820 4 роки тому +1

      If they were using an ATC, I really don't think they would belay like Anton did. As you said it's pretty hard to catch a fall like that. I too think they are using grigri or a similar device, then it's not that much of a problem. But yea better keep correct hand position not matter the device.

  • @strawberriesnz
    @strawberriesnz 4 роки тому +2

    Ooh fun! Hell yes on part 2!
    Also, in answer to your thought adrenaline does impact pain - you will feel less pain as adrenaline increases. This is why people are able to keep running from or fighting, as part of flight or fight responses, even when injured. As part of this strength and performance are meant to increase. Would be interesting to learn more about the interplay of fear and adrenaline on strength and performance... 🤔

  • @pedroalric5447

    Hey Anton, I think adrenaline blocks pain a lot. I ride dirtbikes and I’m obviously used to it but everytime I have a lot of pain off the bike i don’t feel it when I’m on the bike. Once I was in a race and I pinched a nerve on my back and I couldn’t even walk because off the pain, but as soon as the gate dropped the pain stoped and I didn’t feel anything the entire race. Also a lot of professional riders have rode with broken wrists and other bones and barely noticed it.

    Hell yeah to part 2! 😎
    Actually I am just reading a book about fear, it is called “Feel the fear and do it anyway”. Let me quote: “If everybody feels fear when approaching something totally new in life, yet so many are out there ‘doing it’ despite the fear, then we must conclude that fear is not the problem. Obviously, the real issue has nothing to do with the fear itself, but, rather, how we hold the fear. For some, the fear is totally irrelevant. For others, it creates a state of paralysis. The former hold their fear from a position of power (choice, energy and action), and the latter hold it from a position of pain (helplessness, depression and paralysis). ....the secret in handling fear is to move yourself from a position of pain to a position of power. The fact that you have the fear then becomes irrelevant.” Hats off to you guys!
    Anton, can I make a suggestion on editing? When you show gopro footage, could you make a smaller sized video in the corner? For example your gopro view could be the main footage and at the same time show the outer view in the corner. This way we could see the action from two angles at the same time. 🙏

    Part 2 please!!! Height triggers fear. Fear triggers adrenaline. Adrenaline masks pain? Or perhaps increases concentration to where you aren’t focused on the pain 🤔...food for thought 💭

    Holy moly, my heart rate was up watching, great video waiting for part 2! 💪 and all three of you say how the height increases the fear but you came across as just 😎

    I love how much Anton likes to experiment. No doubt some of them will have huge impacts on the sport. Keep it up, but be safe!!

    I loved it :D
    Tbh you could try a similar setup including blindfolds where you have to do a challenge completely without sight.
    Depending on the obstacles one would have a number of pre-runs and then finally the blindfolded one.
    I am sure that will affect performance as well (also because of fear)

    Adrenaline massively decreases pain in the moment but it doesn't increase toughness at all. You can definitely still get hurt but you might not notice it which makes adrenaline dangerous. Also I'd love a part 2 of this
