Forgot to mention that the mountains in the Montana flag represents the Granite Peak - the tallest peak in Montana.
Adding a pentagon to Virginias flag is bad idea! That’s a federal military base and doesn’t belong on a state flag.
Sorry but you can’t remove the Palmetto from the SC flag. It needs to be somewhere on the banner. It’s more of a symbol than the moon is for them

I like the virginia design but one thing, Virginia is often represented with a trident so I think that could have been included, also we were the LITERAL FIRST STATE the British first settled here so that’s just something I thought that needed to be more included.

They should have put the trident as a continuation to the yellow stripe.

I have a real problem with Virginia. The Crown was there to represent the phrase "Sic semper tyrannis" as in 'As always unto tyrants" or "Death to tyrants" - crowning the military gives a very different sentiment; one I don't at all like.
Accidental truth
"Sic semper tyrannis" becomes "As always for tyrants" with no change to the Latin
I've loved these redesigns! You have GOT to do Arkansas. Their flag looks like the sign to a casino on the Las Vegas Strip
I'm DEFINITELY doing Arkansas next time. I feel like it's just a bit better than the flags shown in this video which is the only reason it was pushed back.

Never change South Carolina flag
Exactly, it’s not the flag’s fault that the average person isn’t smart enough to know what a palmetto tree looks like.
As a Georgia state resident that has lived for the majority of their life in SC, a palmetto tree is easy to draw.
As someone who’s been obsessed with flags since a lad. This whole hatred, for seals is funny to me, it’s like the whole online discourse is solely based of the NAVA and nothing else.
As an Oklahoman, I think the flag redesign is pretty great! The only problem I can see with it is the exclusion of the blue from the original flag, but it’s good nonetheless
The only reason I didn't include the blue is because there didn't seem to be a reason to keep it. Like the rest of the State flags, it just seemed like it was included to fit in. Thanks for your input though!

Not one penney should be spent on changing state flags until their residents are properly fed and housed.
I think for the Carolinas, the South’s flag shouldn’t be changed. Accept for updating the design of its Palmetto tree. But for the North, I think it should have a red version of the South’s flag with a flowering dogwood tree in the center since it’s the tree of its state flower and the sun or its state bird the cardinal in the corner like the moon is for South Carolina’s flag.

Please fix my flag, Ohio, but mostly, less stars, other than that we have an almost perfect flag.

UH! being a native born Tarheel those "random dates" on the flag are not random!, google it and you'd find out It bears the dates of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (May 20, 1775) and of the Halifax Resolves (April 12, 1776), documents that place North Carolina at the forefront of the American independence movement. Both dates also appear on the Seal of North Carolina. you sir have offended me, maybe do research first before you go criticizing a flag of different states. and no our flag doesn't need a redesign Thank you very much.

Ehhhhh as an Iowan i cant really get behind a state flag that dosent have the Tricolor. Maybe instead of an eagle a hawk for the hawkeye state?

Great ideas! I tried to keep the tricolor but I ended up not having much reason to over the green/blue. I'll see what the hawk design would look like on both though!

Ok to be fair, I didn't do as many this time around. Plus, some of the ones I did do were done for a significant purpose. Although I have to admit, Iowa and Maine didn't need it.

Nice designs but I think a lot of these are bad flags. Mainly because a flag isn't just about looking nice or original. It should represent the history and people of a place. I've lived in both Virginia and South Dakota. Virginians who know about their flag like the symbolism of Virtue defeating Tyranny. This is why a crown is thrown to the side and chains are broken in the tyrants hand. So changing it so that the new flag has a crown at the top is stupid. South Dakotas are great people and they only hate one thing: being confused for or considered the same as North Dakota. So making their flags connected is something only someone outside the state would do. Everyone I met from their would think thats dumb. Lastly, there is no moom on the South Carolina flag. That Crescent shape is meant to represent a piece of metal that was fixed to the caps of South Carolina soldiers or around the neck of officers (as something called a "gorget"). And the Tree is a BIG deal to south Carolina's. They love their flag and they use the symbolism of it everywhere. So the only people who would suggest changing it don't live in the state. These designs really are cool but I have a hard time believing anyone from these states would consider these flags as better alternatives.
Really good points about all of these states, especially Virginia. I knew about the symbolism of the crown, so I really can't see what reason I had to use the crown in the context it's in. It's been a while since I've done these flags, so I'll have to make another video, when I have the free time, rethinking all the redesigns. Thanks for writing this!

I don't think I like the "sister" flags for North and South states. It makes them too connected to each other and feel less like independent states. Maybe the states should just change their names to be more distinct. South Dakota could become Rushmore and South Carolina could become Palmetto while the Norths just become Dakota and Carolina respectively. But guess remaining states is another video.
The cultures of North and South Carolina are especially distinct - but the history of the name is old and no one is going to want to change them.

I actually don't really like the redesigns aswell.
What i hate about these flags is that they don’t even represent their state at all. examples being Pennsylvania know for key stones don’t have it on their flag, or Wisconsin known for their cheese doesn’t even have cheese on their flag, and New York doesn’t even have the Statue of Liberty on the flag.

The redesign of the Virginian flag is terrible. You do realize that the point of the crown on the flag is that it has been _knocked off_ the tyrant, right? So it is about a _rejection_ of the crown ... which you want to put back on top. The pentagon is also a federal building that happens to be in Virginia, but is not representative of the state. Plus, the flag is just plain ugly.
Generally I dislike the seal on a blue background, but Virginia can be allowed an exception due its special status as the mother colony and the fact that the seal is awesome.
The "spikes" on South Dakota's flag are because they represent the sun, South Dakota being "the sunshine state" (a nickname it shares with Florida and Queensland).
The current Iowa flag isn't great but it isn't terrible either - but the colors of the redesign ... No.
Georgia doesn't need to be fixed, other than perhaps a simplified design in the canton. The Stars and Bars are a feature, not a bug.
As you say, Oklahoma could use some simplification, but it needs a better implementation and should probably keep the original colors, more or less.
Maine should revert to the old flag, but the redesign isn't bad.
The Montana design is actually pretty good.
The North Carolina flag does not need a redesign. It's inspiration is from the Stars and Bars. The dates represent two resolutions calling for independence.
South Carolina has a great flag. It does not need a redesign. Having a joint flag with North Carolina makes no sense, as the cultures and history of the two states are so distinct. Finally, that isn't a crescent on the South Carolina flag, it's a gorget. If you don't know why it's there, you shouldn't be redesigning the flag.
Okay. But do you want to look at the eyesore it currently is?
There are much better NC redesign flags out there than this and CGP Grey's design.

Most of the flags could be used as flags for African countries, not for US states though
