- Empress Sissi's time in Venice would today be a media sensation. But in the second half of the 19th century it hardly made the news. But why would an Austrian Empress choose to stay in Venice over her native Vienna in 1861, when it Venice was such an anti-Austrian city...?
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

WELL RIGHT OFF THE BAT, I WISH I HAD NOT CLICKED ON THIS. THE MUSIC IS TERRIBLE AND IT IS TOO LOUD.
Native Vienna? She was Bavarian and hated the Viennese court, that was the problem.
Yes. Please Correct that.
RIGHT!! And she didn’t even “escape” she was told to go their by a doctor because they believed the weather was better for her and even when she got to Venice she was still sick and her health would fluctuate.
Can you please make a documentary about Sisi? She is such an interesting woman and so much overlooked.
Yes that truth,Hello how are you doing 👋👋👋👋👋
Too much garden not enough Sissi.
You never answered “why?”…nice scenery but misleading title.
I'm sure MANY enjoyed this. I was disappointed, since I'd been expecting a biography, not a horticultural presentation.
Documentaries and biographies have been dumbing down the population in past 20 years .
It started when Lucy worsley turned these Documentaries into dress up sessions instead of well researched Documentaries.
FYI there are 10s of Documentaries on the social life of the Tudors but not 1 famous 1 about the birth of the Tudor navy , monetary policy, lives of average ppl etc .
Most of these videos are = to historical gossip nothing more , with the speaker trying to get as much attention as possible for themselves.
I agree. Ended up learning very little about this interesting, mysterious woman.
@@ageofechochambers9469 Sorry, but SOME of Lucy’s documentaries are impeccably researched and a VERY entertaining.
Glad to see ANY documentary on the mysterious SiSi. They are impossible to find anywhere in English.
@@randykirkland3927 are you a historian or are you a history student ?
If you watched her documentaries do you have the knowledge to catch mistakes ?
Even your response is phrased as if your a expert .
Your giving a verdict as though you've reviewed and revised her material put it up for evaluation by experts from Cambridge or Oxford and reached a conclusion, its very holier than thou sentence.
I LOVED this! Everything about it! So much more Venetian history, please!! Absolutely intriguing!
please ... honor to read ths.... yes it is... for me, wonderful
Thank you. I appreciate the historical perspectives with maps, decor as well as the gardens.
Hello 👋
Fascinating. She was the Princess Diana of he day.
I've been trying to find a documentary of empress elisabeth in the English version for years, but this was not I've expected. But all and all this episode looks absolutely beautiful.
Please upload more documentaries of empress Elisabeth as much as you can.

@@margaretdunn1032 You're not the only one, I've never heard of Empress Elisabeth until I watched a movie called "Sissi" when I was 10-years-old, on TCM which it was in T.V. at the time. Empress Elisabeth was a princess of Bavaria known by her family as "Sissi" until she married Emperor Franz Joseph and became empress of Vienna. And of course her mom Ludovika was the twin sister of ArchDuchess Sophie of Austria.
Hello 👋 Johanny
i agree. While i enjoy gardening shows but i had wanted to watch a documentary on "Sissi". And i was b
very disappointed.
Highly recommend a short but very good documentary on Sissi. The channel Tea Time with Lindsay Holiday has really good documentaries.

I'm absolutely in love with this cinematography!!
Hello Jody how are you doing 👋👋👋👋
Thank you so much!
Awesome video.
Lovely, Thank you! 🤓
Hello 👋
Love my yearly visits to Venice in Winter/January for 3 weeks.
So interesting 👌
A visually lovely video - but disjointed, annoyingly confusing, and basically pointless, with very little to do concerning Empress Elisabeth.
Excellent documentary 👏👏🍿. Perfect for midnight marathon
There’s so much wrong information. In this documentary
@@Recartloaded like what??
@@chris.asi_romeo like when they say Elisabeth escape to Venice, she was told to go there and Madeira because she was sick and the doctors thought it was better for her health , and they say she’s native to Vienna when she’s not she was from Bavaria, and born in Munich and grew up in possi
@@Recartloaded how do you know that??
She was gorgeous beautiful marrying too young she was not in love with this person horrible sad. She was deeply saddened and depressed 😕
Sissi was just a child when she married into the Austrian imperial family and having Archduchess Sophia aka "The Mother-in-law from Hell" around, you really can't blame her for preferring to travel. She was the Princess Diana of her time.
Not only was the archduchess her mother in law, she was also her aunt. Yes Sisi married her 1st cousin, emperor Franz Joseph
I still can’t believe her mother in law treated her like that despise she is her own niece. Even if she is not your favourite niece you shouldn’t treat her like that.
@@moonlightpaw5868 I have a feeling Archduchess Sophie was jealous of Sisi
she wasn't Princess Diana of her time.... the Emperor loved her from the first time, sissi denied his affection, she doesn't want him to even touch her, she even selected an actress to be his mistress so he would leave her alone.
royal protocol also told that the child should not be brought up by the Empress herself, Marie Antoinette even follow these
@@samanthasmith61 she was the Princess Diana of her time because she was greatly loved by the people but shunned by aristocrats
Elisabeth wasn’t even native to Vienna she was from Bavaria
What a disappointment! Yeah it’s a great history of Venice in her time, but that’s as far as it goes!
Nice comment hello Peggy how are you doing👋👋👋👋👋👋
I love seeing the beauty
I agree with the comment on so many of the videos being misleading in there titles
Here is a great but short documentary actually about Sissi. The channel tea time with Lindsay Holiday has wonderful documentaries.

Not continuing to watch...not about the Empress Sissi at all!
Palazzo dei Doge is quite nice.
That area was still being renovated in 2019 October…
好棒的威尼斯,真想去旅行。
Sissi probably ate fish and chicken, which are low in fat. The texture of skin turn to water after digested. And salad, also. With exercise, she could stay quite thin.
Nice comment hello Evelyn how are you doing 👋👋👋👋
According to records she “ate” mostly meat juices, egg whites, and oranges.
She rode her horse for sanity
The Venician don't lovet Austrian Power and Sissi...many war vs Austria. The Lombardo Veneto.
My great great great aunt was rumored to have female lovers. This is another explanation for the photographs of women.
‘Perfectly romantic for the incorrigible” what a ridiculous statement
random - badly written dialogue and poorly filmed
Damn, why would you make a documentary when you are so poorly documented??? How can you say something like "Venice was part of Austria-Hungary until 1866"???... when Austria-Hungary started to exist after 1867 and up till 1918??? Thumbs down for the HUGE historical ignorance!!! :( :(
This is a biography
So if she had already fled what the heck is this all about?
Just an observation.... you don't 'park' boats.... you 'moor' them.
The only reason I disliked this because the title lead me to believe it was about sissi not about the city. Very disappointed
Your advertising is horrible.

Immature presentation.
Venice doesn't impress me.
