Those are really nice! Great job on installing them perfectly. I love how the lights change color when you open the door and then turn back to the color they are supposed to be. Thanks for sharing!!!
Hello! I installed the Big Rig kit on a 2012 Ram. This may differ if yours is a different year. Driver's side of the truck, open the access panel on the door side of the dash, find pin #13 (courtesy lights - white w/yellow stripe) and tap your white wire from the Big Rigs here. For a more detailed explanation, I highly recommend reading my writeup found at the link above in the description.
Also note, I brought the white wire up from under the drivers side kick panel, pull out one of the white clip receptacles and from underneath the bracket hole for the steps you can see day light, fish a wire down and connect to the white wire and pull back through...
All of my pics can be found on the ramforumz website (link is my description for the video above).. along with most of my write-ups on the mods I've done so far.
Thank you so much for this video. I had one question - if say the amber lights are on and I open the door... do the courtesy lights come on for both sides of the vehicle or just the respective side you're on?
The courtesy lights are tied to the dome lights - whenever the dome lights are on, the courtesy lights are on. So, the answer for your question is the courtesy lights on both sides would come on no matter which door is opened. Also know, that if you are driving down the highway and need to turn on your dome lights, the courtesy lights will also illuminate (without the doors even needing to be opened) since they are wired directly to the dome lights. I actually wanted to wire it so only the passenger side bar would illuminate when either passenger door is opened, but I was unsuccessful.
I just installed these (well partially) on a 2015 3500 Laramie longhorn dually, I like your write up, I was wondering about the park/turn hook up, I don't want to remove the headlight if I don't have to. I tapped the courtesy lights into the yl/vt wire in the drives side wire bundle under the kick panel, I did cross the right side across the engine bay to the left and tap.
Not sure what your question is, but I'll take a guess. My installation was on a 2012 Ram 1500. The 2015 Ram 3500 is, I would guess, most likely different as it has the newer headlights. You may or may not be able to tap into the parking/turn signal wire without removing the entire headlight assembly from the grille. Again, I am not familiar with your specific rig and its setup or layout. All I can suggest is to give my method a try and you'll quickly find out if it will work for you or if you need to remove the headlight.
My running bar lights are actually built into the running board. However unfortunately the running boards arn't made anymore. So i may have to make a compromise. I was considering getting the retractable running boards. Then installing the Recon's providing they don't interfere with the mechanism. Nice demo here as was wondering how this would look. :)
Thanks! I have had them installed for almost three years and have yet to encounter any issues. So I can wholeheartedly recommend them. I, too, have considered the AMP Research Power Steps. I did enough research to learn that, given the mounting location of the Recons on my Ram truck, there would be just enough space for the AMP power steps to fold properly without either mod interfering with the other. I've also thought about it for too long I suppose, since I now see no way to justify swapping out my existing steps and putting out the investment on the AMPs. lol
+Kylle Hardzog Good call! Ah as a recommendation i found replacing my turn signal, running light, fuse relay with a digital one. Fixed 99% of my lighting problems. I have all leds even my reverse lights, Front daytime running, Turn signsls lol. Only normal lights are my HID's. So it was a significant problem. Anyways thanks for the heads up on that. :b
From what I know, the 2012 and 2013 Rams are not much different from each other as far as body layout. So, yes.. this is a straight forward install if you possess basic and common knowledge. I did a writeup of my install if you're interested in how I did mine. I added the link in my description above.
Not entirely sure on the jargon of "pinch weld". I mounted my bars on the thin flat surface located directly below the doors. It has proved to be a perfect mounting location as I have yet to experience a single issue with the bars since installation two years ago.
I bought this kit for my truck but never installed them but I was thinking of installing them on my 2017 Nissan Altima can these lights damage any electronic components in a newer car??
Hello I have a 2016 ram 1500 and I just installed these on my truck I have no problem at all with the turn signals working although my running lights aren't working did you have any problems with yours not working?
No problems here. It's been so long since I installed these, so bear with me. I believe you wiring may be to blame. I believe I remember needing to connect the bar wires as follows: courtesy lights (white wire, I think) connected to the dome lights wire; in the driver side headlight assembly, the running lights (yellow wire) connected to the parking light wire and the turn signal lights (red wire) connected to the turn signal light wire. As I said, this is all off of the top of my head as it has been years ago for me. Since you say you recently installed the kit, I would highly recommend reviewing the installation instructions that came with the bars as chances are high that you still have them. It would be better than taking me at my aged word. lol Good luck!
So I used those nasty vampire clips Sunday. Have you had any problems with yours with moisture? Debating on going back and full splicing and using heat shrink.
vampire clip is the splice clip. where there is no cutting and don't have to use the heat shrink tube splice connection. if you know what i mean. if not, then type in vampire clips on the internet.
i installed on 2015 f350. everything works fine, just When i unlock the truck, the driver side is white courtesy lights but the passenger side is still amber. The passenger only turns white when you open the door and not by unlocking the truck.
Both of my bars (both sides) illuminate with the dome lights - I had to extend (add wire) to the courtesy light wire for the passenger side, ran the wire up through the passenger front wheel well, through the engine compartment and over to the driver side.. then connected it with the courtesy wire from the driver side bar and ran that combined wire into the cab through the driver's footwell and tapped it into the dome light wire. I can only guess that your bars are not functioning simultaneously for one of two reasons: either you didn't install them together (combining the courtesy wires) or your F150 wiring is completely different from my Ram 1500 (which is the more likely case). I see you posted this a year ago.. so I hope you have it figured out now!
Yes, they are still working great. Haven't had a single issue with them since installation. For the courtesy lights, I tapped into the dome light wire so the white leds on the bars illuminate with the dome lights.
WOW.....That is a great price! The body shop that I checked gave me a price of $667.00. So.....needless to say I don't have any cab lights !!!! Yet!!!!
None at all. These lights are worth every penny and have not been an issue at all. I did have the kit installed by my dealer's body shop.. so if anything does ever happen, their work is warrantied.
Those are really nice! Great job on installing them perfectly. I love how the lights change color when you open the door and then turn back to the color they are supposed to be. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you and yes, I purchased Recon's clear cab light kit (part #264146CL) and had my local body shop install it for me.

Looks good! Your video has helped me and a few others from the cumminsforum decide to get these. Thanks!
Thank you much! Glad I could help out fellow Ram owners. :)
Thanks! It is the 62" bar for full sized trucks.
Also note, I brought the white wire up from under the drivers side kick panel, pull out one of the white clip receptacles and from underneath the bracket hole for the steps you can see day light, fish a wire down and connect to the white wire and pull back through...

Where exactly did you mount the led bar on the side of the truck? The pinch weld?
Not entirely sure on the jargon of "pinch weld". I mounted my bars on the thin flat surface located directly below the doors. It has proved to be a perfect mounting location as I have yet to experience a single issue with the bars since installation two years ago.
Looks awesome. Did you add the roof lights too?
I bought this kit for my truck but never installed them but I was thinking of installing them on my 2017 Nissan Altima can these lights damage any electronic components in a newer car??
I have no knowledge of newer cars, however I do know these can be and have been installed on newer trucks without a problem.
You mentioned your tailgate light bar had issues? Can you explain a little more. Was it the recon extreme? & how did you remedy the problem?
Moisture worked into the electrical connection. Fixed with lithium grease.

Hello I Just Put These In! Where do I hook the white wire! I tried the interior fuse block but they won't turn off!
So I used those nasty vampire clips Sunday. Have you had any problems with yours with moisture? Debating on going back and full splicing and using heat shrink.
Not sure what "vampire clips" you are referring to. I have had zero issues with my Big Rig setup since installation two years ago.
vampire clip is the splice clip. where there is no cutting and don't have to use the heat shrink tube splice connection. if you know what i mean. if not, then type in vampire clips on the internet.
Good deal. Very interested in addin them. Idk where your located, but what was the name of the body shop?
Doesn't have a name - it was the body shop at my local Dodge dealership.
i installed on 2015 f350. everything works fine, just When i unlock the truck, the driver side is white courtesy lights but the passenger side is still amber. The passenger only turns white when you open the door and not by unlocking the truck.

How much did your body shop charge you to install the cab lights?
are your lights still working after 2 yrs and your courtesy lights where did they wire them in at im putting on the same set
Yes, they are still working great. Haven't had a single issue with them since installation. For the courtesy lights, I tapped into the dome light wire so the white leds on the bars illuminate with the dome lights.
Very very nice truck
Thank you :)
thats great and thc for the info
The look really nice
Do you still have the truck?
How are the big rig lights holding up?
Yes, I still have the truck and the lights continue to work without issue.
Kylle Hardzog thank you for the reply back
Body shop at my local dealership charged me $189 total for install.. $46 per hour, took four hours.
WOW.....That is a great price! The body shop that I checked gave me a price of $667.00. So.....needless to say I don't have any cab lights !!!! Yet!!!!
Any leaks or regrets adding the roof lights?
None at all. These lights are worth every penny and have not been an issue at all. I did have the kit installed by my dealer's body shop.. so if anything does ever happen, their work is warrantied.
We are doing a lot of the same things to our trucks would love to trade pics some time
What state by chance?
Utah. But seriously, call any local Dodge/Chrysler/Ford/Jeep dealer in your area and speak with their body shop.
cab lights on a gas job. a little odd haha. still looks good tho
Thanks. I think she impresses quite nicely, both day and night. I'm not the first to install cab lights on a 1500. ;)
