Them correcting their mistakes is good. But this situation shows true intentions. I wouldn't be shocked if the galaxy's drone module now coincidentally will take a very long time to develop.
@@floki6548 not at all. What I condemn is to arrificially prolong the Release of a ship to increase Sales of a similar one. but lets See what the Future brings
They randomly made the Starlancer to replace the Galaxy on this cycle. They already had the ship designed, but chose to make a different one. They also spent the time reconcepting the entire Pioneer, so them saying before that the Galaxy just couldn't be done, was nonsense. They should have released the Galaxy instead of the Starlancer. They already told us it was going to be made, don't surprise us with something different when you already had the first one.
Yeah... but still may be years out as they concentrate on the Starlancer BLD future sales... Looks like that is being set up for base building before the Galaxy. Things are getting SKETCHY in the verse. Hope you guys at CIG are reading this. Trust is starting to falter...
Dude they did not "fix" this. JCrewe is the one that suggested things were speculation. He is the LEAD vehicle guy. How did HE have the information wrong? I don't think there was misunderstanding - I think he got caught in a lie and was forced to say the building modules would be coming to the Galaxy. And stop with this "be nice to the devs". This is an example of a dev basically lying to us about something, treating it as a misunderstanding, and then supposedly "fixing" the problem by just saying, "we fully commit to delivering said feature in the future" leaving it up to LITERALLY A SPECULATION ON WHEN. Edit: Maybe I'm emotionally damaged by this. SHAME ON ME for feeling lied to and being unsatisfied with this "clarification"
Have to agree. CIG is NOT your friend. They are a business who wants to take as much money as they can out of your wallet. Just look at how every ship coming out is OP and then after the sales are over (and the refund period expired) they will go in and nerf it into oblivion. Mercury, Ares, Redeemer, Corsair; just to name a few which were awesome to fly at launch and now are just nerfed to hell.
I think they probably planned to do it, realized that the new direction (drones doing the building) wasn’t going to be easily compatible. Then forgot that they announced it on stage as a base building ship and figured they could axe that module without any blowback. I don’t think they deliberately intended to bait and switch, but that’s what it looked like. Then they saw everyone linking the 2023 clip of the galaxy in the base building presentation listed as a large base builder and said, “Oh crap we screwed up. Gotta deliver that promise now… CAN we deliver the promise? Yes but it will take a while? Good enough!”
I agree with your breakdown. This whole thing was a complete communication fiasco by CIG and they tried to correct it. Lets move on to the next community freak-out.
Yep, EXACTLY what I was thinking. Shit happens during development, but they sucked it up and are going down the harder route to stand by their word. Happy to see that happen but will definitely add some time onto the production of the galaxy once it's up after the perseus.
That's exactly how I understood it when I read it too. That currently, the Galaxy is not capable of having a module for base building with its current design. They're going to have to take it back to the drawing board and redesign a part of it in order to be able to accommodate drones and cargo space for resources for the drones, as well as drone arms on a galaxy.
One thing CIG DOES need to do is address the "100 systems at launch" debacle. This has been a staple of SC for over ten years. In fact, the $41 million stretch goal was procedural generation, so we would never run out of systems. It's also the reason I CCU'd my starter ship (from October 2012), to a Freelancer DUR, as soon as I could. Entire orgs such as XPLOR (with almost THIRTEEN THOUSAND members) exist SOLELY to discover and explore unknown jump gates and systems. Other orgs exist solely to find habitable planets, beyond UEE influence, to settle and create independent colonies. Instead, CIG wants a VERY limited number of planets and moons to contain thousands of "points of interest." CIG, we want to discover and explore EMPTY systems with NO points of interest, places people (and Xi'an and Banu) have NEVER been before. It was supposed to be a "sandbox" (go anywhere and do anything) MMO. Instead, we've been told we can't go outside, that we have to play in the house with our brothers and sisters. CIG, FIX THIS!
We now have a question as old as time: we have two very contradictory statements, both sounding as certain and confident as the other. Which do you believe? The second one that implied corrective knowledge or the first one that portrayed significant confidence?
This is good news. The Galaxy is on my list of ships I definitely want to own in the future. And being able to slot in a building module is a big part of that appeal.
Yeah, they didn’t do a U-Turn at all. They said they’d make the Galaxy right after the Polaris and that the Galaxy would be able to build bases. Now, even though they’re working on RSI, they made a MISC ship that NO ONE WANTED just so they could make more money. And now the Galaxy isn’t getting made any time soon now
The Starlancer BLD will most likely be the first ship with large building drones, but just knowing the Galaxy also gets it down the line is wonderful news!
Cant enjoy what you cant play. CIG has made sure to really fuck the pooch with 3.24.2. If the constant 30k error every 5 mins wasn't enough, now I can't even load past the main menu.....
I guess they showed the Galaxy in 23 because they didn't want to show us the Starlancer. If they had of told us then that it might not be the 1st large base builder this current shitshow wouldn't have happened but hey then they wouldn't have sold as many Galaxies.
The biggest problem with this is that if they would have said 'we have another specialist ship for bases but the Galaxy will be the modular do anything ship' they would have sold just as many and gotten people excited for the 'upcoming' one. people will buy what they want and more if they are happy, make them mad with this type of crap and they will now, not all but most, hold back buying large ships until they have more concrete info. The Galaxy is still the better ship and the Starlancer an option for more dedicated builders. Now the Endeavor could be the best overall modular ship if they ever build it
@@martinsantos6497 Yeah, after the 23 announcement I had speculated that the Endeavour might get a space station building module. Maybe it still will :).
"Don't attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by [incompetence]." Hanlon's Razor pretty much sums up CIG's project management, including what is and isn't part of ships now or whenever.
Is this backtrack speculative? Memeing aside, this could be a backtrack, or it could be a placation hoping its forgotten. That “speculative” comment is incredibly toxic to trust, even retracted
I'm glad they actually listened to us, had they kept up that line of action I would probably have sold my Galaxy and use the money elsewhere. You don't get to tell us it'll be part of base building when it's announced and sold, then uno reverse no it won't, that's blatant misrepresentation and I'd have considered it theft of my money.
I honestly believe JC did not intend for it to seem like the BB module for the Galaxy was never happening. To me when i read: "There are no current plans to have a base building module for the Galaxy, that doesnt mean there never will be but there is nothing concepted, planned or in the production schedule" i saw: "there is nothing concepted, planned or in the production schedule" most saw: "There are no current plans to have a base building module for the Galaxy" This is a HUGE leaning lesson for CIG about clarity in the first sentence, with zero room for interoperation.
i love the idea of modular ships, and i would love to use it as a jack of all trades, so im glad they changed their minds on this. I would love to get this amazing ship once it finally releases
BoredGamer thank you sir for keeping us up-to-date and providing your feedback since you do an amazing job and we are so lucky to have you keeping us in well-informed. Believe it or not you actually bring calm to a storm when there's so much drama in that storm. Also please forgive some of my negative comments but I am getting damn sick and tired of the drama from some people who can't possibly realize for one possible moment that if they were doing the same exact job at CIG they would make the same exact mistakes over and over again. It's also more proof that it's so easy to criticize someone for something as opposed to ever realizing that things like this are bound to happen because what is being done on this game is extremely complicated and none of them would be able to ever avoid any of this situation either and they are too afraid to admit it. It also proves so well that you do not know someone until you walk a mile in their shoes and many people today still do not understand that phrase. Even those who do understand that phrase are unwilling to admit that they would do the same exact thing if they were in their position as well. Which again proves is so easy to criticize someone without ever sitting there and trying to think about for one possible moment that if they were doing the same exact job they would've made the same exact mistakes. Sorry again for my negative comments but I felt some of this needed to be said and I know that's some people in the game might consider me a little bastard but someone needs to say it because too many or too afraid to admit it let alone say it.
The main issue for me had been that it was no longer in the development pipeline as it had looked pretty far long when the concept was launched and last year we were told they were focusing on RSI ships so I had been stupidly hopeful that we would have it this year or the next but it looks like it's not planned for anytime soon now and that's my issue. I was always confident that even if they did not have a concept for the base building module right now, they would eventually add one as once they got around to adding modules, I imagine most modules that they could feasibly create they probably would, because why not. Now I just wish we would get an update on when we can expect the galaxy, I was really hoping we would get it before the Perseus because who needs another big gunboat but of course that ship sells for $680 so there's that....
They repeat time and time again, new ships > new features for old ships. If your ship isn't launching soon and has the features you need from the get-go, you are in for the long wait. Carrack came out in 2020 ? And it needs drones, bells and whistles more than galaxy which isn't even out yet, but we know the next releasing ship is going to get it all before they even do.
i know this is a dead horse at this point, but i dont care : 2:30 the original concept Q&A on the corsair specifically states that the pilot will have full control over the front facing guns, and can OPTIONALLY give the co pilot the controls. So clearly there are some lines they are wiling to cross when it comes to what we can feel confident in beeing accurate
Haven't been keeping up with SC for a very long time I immediately paused the video after I heard this about the Corsair and went to look deeper... I cannot believe they've done this what a joke there's nothing they can say to justify it. I personally want a refund
Yeah, that was just insane! Now the co-pilot will be overworked as they now have to manage those 2 guns (with limited movement+visibility), the remote turret on top, and any and all engineering related stuff. Imo, they could have either reduced those guns to S4 if it really did too much damage; OR actually tell the community that it will become a full turret and then turn the small top one into an automated defense turret with a free AI-blade.
So, the intention was more likely to increase the interest for the starlancer bld as the only ship to be able to craft large buildings. Most people who were interested in the galaxy for exact that mechanic already payed their money.
I figured they'd eventually end up adding the base building module to the galaxy anyway (even with the note from John Crewe) - but I'm betting they'll get it done faster now.
I think the continuing issue for me was they said anything not in the store is speculative and then in the 180 they are asking for a “trust me, bro” after saying anything said but not in the store is speculative.
I personally think, there going to sell a build module for the carrack before any other ship as it neeeeeds a update as well it already has drones so there's that, a exploration build ship is where it's at imo, it's a reasonable size as well
Galaxy were announced with building feature. Just feeling CIG want to get rid of it because of resource constrain and tight schedule. Got feeling we may only see Galaxy in 2026 onward.
I feel like it was a misunderstanding. I never took what they said as the ship just not getting a base building module just that it wasnt going to be available for awhile. Maybe I missed something but when I heard them talking about it not being available till later pretty much lined up with my expecations
Yay Great news. Glad they brought this out as quickly as they did. could have seen a mini riot from those who have invested in one thinking base build module was going to be a thing otherwise.
After citcon I was urgently keen to know what size building drone(s) the Galaxy would have. I’m also glad that I didn’t hear about the Galaxy drama was until this clarification. So much in the comments ascribing motivations reading the tea leaves. So often reading between the lines, people are just falling into the holes in their own mind.
The big drama „ups“. It is just so Strange, that no one at CIG noticed this in the meeting. Well at least they do came back to us and gave us some honest feedback again! Development will change stuff, but lose functions would be not fair for buyers
I've read that the initial concept of base building shown at Citizencon 2023 was largely Todd Papy's "baby". If this is true, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the high level decisions surrounding base building changed after he left early this year. The "Building" module for the Galaxy very well could have been one of those changes that fell through the cracks due to miscommunication.
Good of you to turn around and update as fast as they did when the firestorm started. still doesn't change that this was a pretty significant oversight/disconnect from ads and plans they made. at this point I will take it as an oopsie whoopsie and not as some kind of intended scheme as there is no real proof of that. Could there have been marketing intentions? sure but to me its just as likely that someone just misscommunicated and I am willing to give CIG the benefit of the doubt in that respect.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Galaxy module only comes with 2 large drones to be worse than the Starlancer's 4. Modules are meant to be worse than dedicated ships. Now that doesn't really explain or excuse them trying to completely delete an announced and planned module from that ship, so glad they didn't ultimately do that.
yeah bit off to change its selling point, ideally illed like it to have different base modules. one that does multiple medium (or small) and a different module for single large, for example
CIG still deserves some criticism with the Galaxy. This is a solid response, but dropping the Galaxy down the development list (behind the Perseus) and not being early large base building deserves negative coverage. When people (including myself) spend around $400 on a ship last year in part because of the implied time frame and capabilities it is a bit weak to drop it down the list because it shares fewer assets with the Polaris. This doesn't seem to be a BMM situation where the important people left. This was probably a chance to sell a new ship (Starlancer) in one of the roles with a couple more excuses they can publicly use. I can appreciate John Crew's response to this, but I can also lack respect of the culture issue that allows for some of these decisions to happen.
This is the power of gamers. It happened with AC Shadows. It happened with Helldivers 2 Sony fiasco. This happens again with RSI Galaxy's module changes. We are your investors.

"Unless [it's] in the pledge store or available ingame treat it as speculative." Spectrum isn't the pledge store or in game, so until the base building module is in those places I'm going to continue assuming that CIG are lying.
Them correcting their mistakes is good. But this situation shows true intentions. I wouldn't be shocked if the galaxy's drone module now coincidentally will take a very long time to develop.
Likely never.
This situation only shows that people are just lazy and want everything when they want it.
@@SpaceDad42 correct, they do that to bump sale!
@@floki6548 not at all. What I condemn is to arrificially prolong the Release of a ship to increase Sales of a similar one. but lets See what the Future brings
True. Gotta delay the medical module for Apollo sales
I found out about this drama about 10 minutes before the reversal. Which just made the whole thing funny.
I like it when a company admits to mistakes and works to correct them, not all do that lol
Phew, lucky and thank you for the update.
The base building module was the only reason i got the Galaxy for the group.
he will forever be known as John Speculation Crewe
John and the Speculation Crewe sounds like a phenomenal cover band name
Good. Maybe that nickname will remind the community that literally everything in SC is speculative and subject to change and balance.
John Spec
They randomly made the Starlancer to replace the Galaxy on this cycle. They already had the ship designed, but chose to make a different one. They also spent the time reconcepting the entire Pioneer, so them saying before that the Galaxy just couldn't be done, was nonsense. They should have released the Galaxy instead of the Starlancer. They already told us it was going to be made, don't surprise us with something different when you already had the first one.
I think someone was pulled into a meeting and yelled at.
You know it. The second statement is the "I got a bollocking" statement.
Video goes up and Bored blinks
You know, I like it when a company admits to mistakes and works to correct them.
They only did it because hundreds of people were demanding refunds.
this usually works for games that has released - it’s all speculative promises at this point
It wasn't a mistake. They got caught.
@@dude14377 It's probably a good idea to not make speculative promises then. Let's make a promise when we're 100% confident.
Yeah... but still may be years out as they concentrate on the Starlancer BLD future sales...
Now I remember the shape of the galaxy. It looks like a Narn heavy cruiser.
You're right! Still waiting on my white star fleet tho lol. 😛
Man I love that show
I think they probably planned to do it, realized that the new direction (drones doing the building) wasn’t going to be easily compatible.
I don't think they deliberately baited at the time, but think they deliberately switched until they saw the blowup.
Agreed
They going to do the Galaxy module, just after the Caterpillar modules and the Endeavor modules! 🤣
Modules and drones are starting to come out now. It’s time for the Carrack to get some love.
I could not even finish the video saying its not!. Thats some quick editing.
And yet the voice recording is super chill and not rushed at all. Good work all around!
Phew! I knew it's absence from any mention in CitCon was ominous. I'm glad they caved.
Happy that they listened. I really like the design and didn't want to ditch the galaxy but I wanted at something that had base building options
Thank you for clarifying the message from CIG! :)
Good on you for immediately correcting your info!
CIG wasnt ready for the smoke that the community gave
Yeah, they didn’t do a U-Turn at all. They said they’d make the Galaxy right after the Polaris and that the Galaxy would be able to build bases.
Now, even though they’re working on RSI, they made a MISC ship that NO ONE WANTED just so they could make more money. And now the Galaxy isn’t getting made any time soon now
The U-Turn is about saying the Galaxy won't do base building, a year after Todd said it could and then changing their minds.
The Starlancer BLD will most likely be the first ship with large building drones, but just knowing the Galaxy also gets it down the line is wonderful news!
Meanwhile the rest of us that don't really care about multicrew ships can't even enjoy the Halloween event🤷♂️
Cant enjoy what you cant play. CIG has made sure to really fuck the pooch with 3.24.2. If the constant 30k error every 5 mins wasn't enough, now I can't even load past the main menu.....
They got slammed with refund requests and realized how many galaxy owners there are and how pissed they are.
Now the Endeavor could be the best overall modular ship if they ever build it
@@martinsantos6497 oh all those modules for the endeavor were “speculative”. 😉
@@martinsantos6497 Yeah, after the 23 announcement I had speculated that the Endeavour might get a space station building module. Maybe it still will :).
LOL that was quick. I'm glad though, cause I really want my star destroyer to be able to build a base
That really was a quick uturn. Im happy they listened.
"Don't attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by [incompetence]."
Hanlon's Razor pretty much sums up CIG's project management, including what is and isn't part of ships now or whenever.
"Continual incompetence however, is indistinguishable from malice." First corollary to Hanlon's razor.
Well I'm happy they addressed this so quickly.
Will the Carracks fabrication and drones be useable for base building? Was this stated anywhere?
It clearly doesn’t matter what’s stated. They can arbitrarily change anything at any time. The lack of integrity at CIG is absolutely clear.
Glad they made that post and admitted to the mistake. Interested to see how the Galaxy turns out.
I honestly believe JC did not intend for it to seem like the BB module for the Galaxy was never happening.
To me when i read: "There are no current plans to have a base building module for the Galaxy, that doesnt mean there never will be but there is nothing concepted, planned or in the production schedule"
i saw: "there is nothing concepted, planned or in the production schedule"
most saw: "There are no current plans to have a base building module for the Galaxy"
This is a HUGE leaning lesson for CIG about clarity in the first sentence, with zero room for interoperation.
The base building option, was a nice surprise, but not what I got the ship for.
i love the idea of modular ships, and i would love to use it as a jack of all trades, so im glad they changed their minds on this. I would love to get this amazing ship once it finally releases
no ship should be a jack of all trades, then makes every other ship isolate
At least we know that applying the proper pressure (closing wallets) makes them poop their pants and rethink backstabbing their playerbase.
Glad the Galaxy thing got resolved, felt really bad hearing the bait and switch about it this morning and then them correcting it later.
I wish they'd react similarly to other cases where they dramatically change the role of vehicles after their release...
So, the intention was more likely to increase the interest for the starlancer bld as the only ship to be able to craft large buildings. Most people who were interested in the galaxy for exact that mechanic already payed their money.
I’d like to see a ground vehicle for building large structures even if it’s one drone and takes a while to build stuff.
“Not currently planned but I’m sure we can make it happen once everything else is built”
I figured they'd eventually end up adding the base building module to the galaxy anyway (even with the note from John Crewe) - but I'm betting they'll get it done faster now.
will i get to fly my idris. it's flyable. or i have to wait 2yrs for sq42 polishing
Good to hear. It's also good to see a positive dialogue about this
impressed with the change. that was really worrying that they were pulling that and especially on top of the other changes they've made recently.
The Galaxy can as of now: Refine, Carry Cargo, be a medical ship and build. That seems a bit op
I don't begrudge people who buy concept ships, but this is the perfect example as to why I don't.
Glad that was resolved quickly.
I think the continuing issue for me was they said anything not in the store is speculative and then in the 180 they are asking for a “trust me, bro” after saying anything said but not in the store is speculative.
The drive to enforce (however, very softly, softly) multi-crew, and to have crew be muti-purpose/multi-role is on!!
I personally think, there going to sell a build module for the carrack before any other ship as it neeeeeds a update as well it already has drones so there's that, a exploration build ship is where it's at imo, it's a reasonable size as well
I love that you mirror the thumbnail
It's good they re-explained the info about the Galaxy.
Galaxy were announced with building feature.
Just feeling CIG want to get rid of it because of resource constrain and tight schedule.
Got feeling we may only see Galaxy in 2026 onward.
very cool of them. i was immediately thinking about melting or upgrading it during IAE
I feel like it was a misunderstanding. I never took what they said as the ship just not getting a base building module just that it wasnt going to be available for awhile. Maybe I missed something but when I heard them talking about it not being available till later pretty much lined up with my expecations
Im glad they will listen to the community on these matters.
Accountability is not something you hear often about companies. I am glad CIG sees the importance of this... this time.
I've been so busy with homework that I didn't even notice any of this going on, and I don't know how I feel about that
I really hope we can get a combat or exploration variant of the Galaxy.
The mob has power.
Yay Great news. Glad they brought this out as quickly as they did. could have seen a mini riot from those who have invested in one thinking base build module was going to be a thing otherwise.
They better stick to their word becuase this game is taking a while
Oh awesome!! lol. I'm happy they changed their mind. Excited about the Galaxy again!
On other note, I'd like to know if ships like Vulcan will be able to use building drones
Well that's good. Hopefully they can all get on the same page before making announcements in the future
Ah, BoredGamer, I was wondering where you had gone. Glad to see you back!😁
Good of you to turn around and update as fast as they did when the firestorm started. still doesn't change that this was a pretty significant oversight/disconnect from ads and plans they made. at this point I will take it as an oopsie whoopsie and not as some kind of intended scheme as there is no real proof of that. Could there have been marketing intentions? sure but to me its just as likely that someone just misscommunicated and I am willing to give CIG the benefit of the doubt in that respect.
I said the same thing once the response came back out, wow that was a fast U-turn
They turned tail right quick, I'm happy they did.
The level of integrity with CIG is shockingly low. And it’s led right from the top.
I had a feeling this would get walked back quickly.
See how fast thing happen when the player base all comes together and unite
I like what you did with the thumbnail lol
yeah bit off to change its selling point, ideally illed like it to have different base modules. one that does multiple medium (or small) and a different module for single large, for example
I call it "The RSI Galaxy 360"
