The biggest deal is #7, the HDHP + HSA + HSBA.
Yes, you can only use it for health related expenses, however when you turn 65 it becomes basically another TSP type fund on the side.

Do you contribute to an HSA above and beyond your premium or does your premium become the HSA?

Hsa is above the premium and usually it’s a card use to pay for out of pocket insurance. Hsa is also pretax

The high deductible is a wash because the pass through to the HSA and the lower premiums. Switched a few years ago wish I knew sooner. Max out of pocket is less as well. Wish I switched sooner. Maxing out the HSA is better than TSP money.

      Do they match HSA?

What plan on you referring to? I am switching from NALC high option to mhbp standard option mainly because of the price. Any recommendations? I have 2 kids under 5 and a 3rd due mid next year.

Question: I understand that FEHB will drop your coverage at age 62, without notice

How do I find out if my prescription is covered on these different plans? It is an expensive prescription and could be the deciding factor.

The recent article in Fedsmith indicated an increase of 7.7% for Blue Cross in 2024. I thought last year was ridiculous. 😢😢

In Arizona many doctors are dropping the FEP BCBS standard and Basic plans. My primary care doctor told me to seriously consider changing plans because many surgeons are also dropping them. Problem is all the other plans are not as good as BCBS use to be, and they are all 65 to 80% more expensive with less coverage.

Get that HSA money over to Schwab and invest it for retirement, max it out before you max out TSP. Don't use your HSA for paying for medical or dental expenses now. Save all your receipts (I use Google Drive) that you spend on qualified expenses and save them for when you retire. Then when you want to get that money out of the HSA you can withdraw it as long as you have the receipts that haven't been paid out of the HSA before, there is no time limit. It goes in tax free and it grows tax free and comes out tax free.
