The reason why folding phones haven't taken off is almost entirely due to price. Like most people, I'm not paying $1800 a folding phone, and $3000 for a 3 screen phone is even more ridiculous, even my entire gaming PC setup doesn't cost that much.
ive not paid more than £200 for about 10 years now, just get a decent refurb when my phone breaks and get another 2-5 years out of it, the jump in tech isnt as dramatic phone to phone as it was 10-15 years ago so its not worth it
I've had a couple folding phones over the last 4-5 yrs. I've paid outright and never paid more than $800 for the entire bundle after trade-ins and rebates. I could've gotten the Fold 6 for under $500 with trade-in US if I'd jumped on this most recent sale before Nov 1. The issue isn't the price as much as there's only micro improvements, if any at all, to justify the increase from previous Iteration, which - while better than other foldable phones, hasn't reached the potential it could be at. Samsung and other tech companies are now on this AI train while not improving, or unable to improve hardware.

We're seeing smaller improvements and even less improvements that would actually impart the average user. Companies are desperate to us AI as a buzz word (when it's not even real AI) because they need people to actually want new tech again. The problem with a buzz word is that it's just that, a buzz word. "AI" still doesn't have the real useful applications for everyday people it needs to take off. We're just seeing this bubble where everyone things it's eventually going to skyrocket in demand once someone finds that must have use for it. As of now that it's only really getting used by businesses to take over mundane tasks and will potentially take over more complex tasks down the line (which... I'm not a hundred percent sure less people having good paying jobs will help any consumer electronics markets).

Samsung completely abandoned their popular budget and midrange series of phones and started focussing solely on cutting-edge expensive flagships. In Asian markets (India and China most importantly) they lost the budget and midrange market share to competitors which offered far superior value. They need to regain their strong foothold in affordable non-flagship segments along with the excellent trajectory they already have for the flagships.
They need affordable flagships, longer lasting too! Both my wife's S21+ and my S22+ are having significant downgrades in the quality of pictures, on top of a slower phone, and less battery time on top. These were really expensive phones!!! Samsung should definitely "innovate" on consistency.

Their 5nm and 4nm processes' was HEAVILY rushed out of the door to show the market that they had the newest tech. The results? poor efficiency, overheating, degrading performance after updates, dead motherboard, expanded battery. Hell, they even tried other shady tactics like completely removing cooper vapor chamber for the S22 lineup despite knowing that the phones will overheat even more without them. I'm surprised they weren't smacked with lawsuits for that.
Samsung has been on a downward spiral since DJ Koh left the company. Their recent launches like the Fold 6 and Buds 3 Pro have been a letdown. They’ve given up on their unique design and copied Apple which is a shame.

Ever since Huawei got banned from international market, Samsung fell into the comfort zone and nerfed themselves. Things we wanna see in Z fold 7. Better Durability and Dust Resistance is a must, S pen silo and outer display s pen support Better battery life and faster charging. Better and usable inner display camera for video calls and stuffs. Slightly, just slightly wider cover display and reduced bezels. Anti reflective coating on both, especially on outer display... These are the bare minimum essentials of a merely flagship phone in 2024. They are ahead in software, and features as of now tho, but still you wanna use an 1800 dollar phone just like a flagship or maybe something more than it. Do not gatekeep on usability #Samsung
Well, they keep putting their prices up and not innovating to actually attract people back, they will either need to adapt to continue as they are or downsize their range of products to focus on their most profitable ventures, sorta like how Toshiba downsized when it couldn't compete in the household product space anymore.
I have a 3 years old Samsung M52, at first it was good but then after a bunch of almost forced updates and user policy changes, I am not sure if I'd ever buy another Samsung phone again.

In 2022 the shipbuilding business at Samsung was losing billions of dollars. In fact Samsung Electronics had to make the shipbuilding business a large loan to keep them afloat. In that business they are actually only 3rd place among South Korean shipbuilders. All three of those companies were losing large amounts of money and seeking government bailouts. The profitable business is in fact Samsung Electronics.
Just because Volkswagen going down the hill doesn't mean Samsung is anywhere close to it. If you read financial reports Samsung clocked 280% in net profit this quarter. I didn't see a single EU company doing anything close to it. Don't know who funds your channel but Samsung is more than on the the safe side right now. Y'all should focus on your downward going economy as inflation in EU rose 2% this year.
Maybe one more reason is that Samsung is a cheabol, and for the time it's leader was missing because of facing the consequences of breaking the law, has been a mostly directionless company coasting on the momentum it already had.
Problem is you are paying more for LESS features, no hedphone jack, no sd card slot, no replacable battery, no charger. And the camera quality not a good selling point
The removal of the SD card was the best thing to ever happen. Micro SD cards are much slower than the internal storage on the device itself, prone to corruption, and not supported by most apps on android outside of media content like photos. Headphone jack is understandable but not that big of a deal. In regards to the replacement battery issue, fast charging solves any qualms from that and in order to have a replaceable battery would mean forgoing on things like waterproofing or having wireless charging. So gunna hard disagree with you
1) Too expensive 2) Offer less than what consumers consider standard because they believe they are a premium brand, 3) Competitors offer better specs 4) They've lost touch with consumers after building an ivory tower of bad customer service, no customer feedback and no improvements.
To this day Samsung uses cheap short-lived flash memory within their phones, making them slower and slower as the years go by. I realized this issue with my first Samsung smartphone over 10 years ago. And now, all those years later, the issue remains the same. It is astonishing that no one talks about this purpusefully created problem. But maybe enough users are waking up to it, and realizing that other manufacturers (e.g. OnePlus or Google - but especially Apple) do not have this flaw.
Nowadays most (big brand) phones are practically copies from eachother. So staying with one brand isn't as important as it used to be. My last few phones have been samsung's, good quality for a decent price. But after my galaxy S10 goes kaput i'm switching to a fairphone one. Fairphone has phones that are easily repairable by the consumer, so repairablity with them is way better than other brands. And that will mean i'm able to do a lot longer with the phone. The prices of having your battery or cable connecter replaced are just over the top nowadays. So i rather buy a phone where i can do thise things myself, without needing proprietary tools and "locked" hardware. Planned obsolescence is a nice money grab in the short term, but eventually customers will choose the few brand who didn't/don't join that bandwagon.

They need to slash prices to remain competitive and increase consumer interest. For example, the only reason foldable haven't caught on is their extreme price - whereas manufacturers like Motorola can make a foldable for under 600 dollars. They need to lower prices across the board and offer foldables for the same price as their slab phone products. The z fold needs to be at or around the price of the s24 ultra and the z flip needs to be at or around the s24.
The reason for Samsungs slowing sales in the smartphone market is they copied Apple with removing accessories in boxes and users could easily switch to other Android phones. Whereas iPhone users were embedded in the ecosystem something samsung has tried to emulate although not as successfully as of yet.
I have the folding phone, and I love mine. My friends always enjoy checking it out. I love it for streaming the PlayStation, good sized screen for playing games and being able to read the screen

Samsung needs to manage their Quality Control better. In my country too many people are facing green line issues. S20 S21 S22 and in some cases s23 series phones are getting green lines on displays.
Since the introduction of smart fones, i never had any other brand except samsung. But my problem with samsung started when i got my s20. After just 2 years of normal use, meaning no gaming, no resource intensive apps, no heat inducing processes, my screen just broke. It started with 1 vertical green line and then it multiplied so much so that the fone is almost useless. I went to samsung service center for repairs. The officer said my fone is out of warranty and the screen replacement will cost me as much as a new one. At first, i thought i was just unlucky. So i got a new samsung s22, again same thing happened in less than 2 years. After much research on the net, i found out that im not the only one. Tens of thousands have suffered similiar problem and samsung refuse to acknowledge its a hardware fault. So with much regret, i ditched samsung and went for another brand. Samsung's product quality seemed to have deteriorated so badly
Price is too high and software quality dropped too much. I switched from a fold 3 to a moto g stylus 2024, and it felt like a big upgrade despite being 1/6th the price
As well, they lie about pricing. I looked at replacing my old galaxy Buds+. Looking at their roughly equivalent now options, they told me I'd get 50$ off before trade in, then adding in the trade in drops the discounts without explanation of why. I just can't trust the company
What people fail to realize is that Samsung is actually gaining significant ground right now in the US. Yes they are mov8ng towards more Apple like products but I believe this might be a worth it strategy to convert some of the Apple customers. Samsung products are still significantly cheaper ( a lot of sales going on) and much of the Apple users are gett8ng fed up with the lack of inovation and high price tag of Apple. First 3 apple iPhones are used off the shelf Samsung SoCs as their main processor. Samsung also makes tanks (not water tanks 😂 actual tanks used in war i mean) and they're the people who made world tallest building called burj Khalifa 😅
A very important factor is that Samsung is not integrated and Samsung smartphone has to compete with other manufacturers for their own screens almost on the same foot. Same thing for other components

samsung just looked at all the anti consumer apple money making schemes in the smartphone market and copied them, no headphones (or headphone jack) included with the phone, no charger included with the phone, no replaceable battery, no phone case, the phone being unuseable after like 3 years, etc. a lot of people with less money loved their older gen samsung phones because they would be reliable products with a reasonable price and with a manufacturer who cared about the products being good and not only the advertisements

On the face of it. Samsung do make some very very very nice devices and their software support as far as android OS and security updates are second to none. But the problem is they are being seriously undercut to the point where their devices look terribly overpriced compared to the competition. I bought a Motorola for £200 about a year ago. For a similar specd Samsung id be paying close to £300 if not over for it. Obviously there are some caveats where Samsung is straight out better. Longer support, better camera tech and really refined build quality. But the amount of people with huge amounts of disposable income to splash on flashy and expensive mobile phones these days have taken a jump off a steep cliff. Xiaomi have taken over such a huge part of the market as well and Samsung cant compete unless they lower their prices

I own a Pixel 8a smartphone. Over the past couple of days, I purchased a Galaxy S24+ for my mom and set it up for her. Even though the Samsung phone is far more powerful and expensive, I would stick with my Pixel 8a any day of the week. Samsung's One UI sucks IMO. It looks bland and Samsung filled this phone with so much bloat it's nuts. For every Google program there is, Samsung added their own program which again, I'd say is inferior if only for features. Why would anyone want to use a Samsung branded web browser over Chrome, Firefox, or Opera? Why would I want to use Samsung's messaging app over Google's? Why the hell would I want to use Bixby, which never took off over Google's assistant or Google Gemini? Also, it's not as if I can simply uninstall all of these Samsung branded programs. I have to simply disable them, force stop, and even then when going through Google Messaging and changing settings, the Samsung messaging app still wants to pop in at times. IMO One UI is a waste of money and with the hardware that Samsung is putting into their high-end phones, giving people the option to have a fairy stock Android experience would be a great option.
I think the actual issue here is Samsung trying to compete with Apple. If you go back through Samsung's financials they had their most successful years when their devices were more affordable yet still close to that flagship quality. Now I feel like they are trying to be the apple of the Android world and charging way higher prices than what most cell phone should cost. Look at what OnePlus does they are selling phones that one could argue are actually better than Samsung Ultra phones yet they are $300 cheaper. So I think Samsung needs to go back to their roots which is offering affordable high quality cell phones

1900$ is a single component in the pc, the GPU. So ofc a phone with a whole lot of components and an advanced screen will cost that much.

The biggest reason for samsung's poor sales in phone segment is exynos.

These are the bare minimum essentials of a merely flagship phone in 2024. They are ahead in software, and features as of now tho, but still you wanna use an 1800 dollar phone just like a flagship or maybe something more than it. Do not gatekeep on usability #Samsung
Well, they keep putting their prices up and not innovating to actually attract people back, they will either need to adapt to continue as they are or downsize their range of products to focus on their most profitable ventures, sorta like how Toshiba downsized when it couldn't compete in the household product space anymore.

I moved to using traditional double edged razor blades because it was significantly cheaper than buy Gillette replacement cartridges at nearly £3 each.
I buy a pack of 100 Japanese razor blade for about £12.

Samsung isn't just electronics. Their construction division -- C&T -- built the no. 1 and no. 2 tallest buildings in the world. They also have a real estate business, defence, shipbuilding, etc.
In 2022 the shipbuilding business at Samsung was losing billions of dollars. In fact Samsung Electronics had to make the shipbuilding business a large loan to keep them afloat. In that business they are actually only 3rd place among South Korean shipbuilders. All three of those companies were losing large amounts of money and seeking government bailouts. The profitable business is in fact Samsung Electronics.

Don't know who funds your channel but Samsung is more than on the the safe side right now. Y'all should focus on your downward going economy as inflation in EU rose 2% this year.
Maybe one more reason is that Samsung is a cheabol, and for the time it's leader was missing because of facing the consequences of breaking the law, has been a mostly directionless company coasting on the momentum it already had.
Problem is you are paying more for LESS features, no hedphone jack, no sd card slot, no replacable battery, no charger. And the camera quality not a good selling point
The removal of the SD card was the best thing to ever happen. Micro SD cards are much slower than the internal storage on the device itself, prone to corruption, and not supported by most apps on android outside of media content like photos.
Headphone jack is understandable but not that big of a deal. In regards to the replacement battery issue, fast charging solves any qualms from that and in order to have a replaceable battery would mean forgoing on things like waterproofing or having wireless charging.

Why didn’t you talk about their quality issues? Samsung’s quality has dropped a lot in recent years.
1) Too expensive
2) Offer less than what consumers consider standard because they believe they are a premium brand,
3) Competitors offer better specs
4) They've lost touch with consumers after building an ivory tower of bad customer service, no customer feedback and no improvements.
To this day Samsung uses cheap short-lived flash memory within their phones, making them slower and slower as the years go by. I realized this issue with my first Samsung smartphone over 10 years ago. And now, all those years later, the issue remains the same. It is astonishing that no one talks about this purpusefully created problem. But maybe enough users are waking up to it, and realizing that other manufacturers (e.g. OnePlus or Google - but especially Apple) do not have this flaw.

Nowadays most (big brand) phones are practically copies from eachother. So staying with one brand isn't as important as it used to be.
My last few phones have been samsung's, good quality for a decent price.
But after my galaxy S10 goes kaput i'm switching to a fairphone one.
Fairphone has phones that are easily repairable by the consumer, so repairablity with them is way better than other brands.
And that will mean i'm able to do a lot longer with the phone.
The prices of having your battery or cable connecter replaced are just over the top nowadays.
So i rather buy a phone where i can do thise things myself, without needing proprietary tools and "locked" hardware.
Planned obsolescence is a nice money grab in the short term, but eventually customers will choose the few brand who didn't/don't join that bandwagon.

They need to slash prices to remain competitive and increase consumer interest. For example, the only reason foldable haven't caught on is their extreme price - whereas manufacturers like Motorola can make a foldable for under 600 dollars. They need to lower prices across the board and offer foldables for the same price as their slab phone products. The z fold needs to be at or around the price of the s24 ultra and the z flip needs to be at or around the s24.
The reason for Samsungs slowing sales in the smartphone market is they copied Apple with removing accessories in boxes and users could easily switch to other Android phones. Whereas iPhone users were embedded in the ecosystem something samsung has tried to emulate although not as successfully as of yet.
I have the folding phone, and I love mine. My friends always enjoy checking it out. I love it for streaming the PlayStation, good sized screen for playing games and being able to read the screen

Since the introduction of smart fones, i never had any other brand except samsung. But my problem with samsung started when i got my s20. After just 2 years of normal use, meaning no gaming, no resource intensive apps, no heat inducing processes, my screen just broke. It started with 1 vertical green line and then it multiplied so much so that the fone is almost useless. I went to samsung service center for repairs. The officer said my fone is out of warranty and the screen replacement will cost me as much as a new one. At first, i thought i was just unlucky. So i got a new samsung s22, again same thing happened in less than 2 years. After much research on the net, i found out that im not the only one. Tens of thousands have suffered similiar problem and samsung refuse to acknowledge its a hardware fault. So with much regret, i ditched samsung and went for another brand. Samsung's product quality seemed to have deteriorated so badly

As well, they lie about pricing. I looked at replacing my old galaxy Buds+. Looking at their roughly equivalent now options, they told me I'd get 50$ off before trade in, then adding in the trade in drops the discounts without explanation of why. I just can't trust the company

What people fail to realize is that Samsung is actually gaining significant ground right now in the US. Yes they are mov8ng towards more Apple like products but I believe this might be a worth it strategy to convert some of the Apple customers. Samsung products are still significantly cheaper ( a lot of sales going on) and much of the Apple users are gett8ng fed up with the lack of inovation and high price tag of Apple. I believe the next quarter numbers might surprise you.
First 3 apple iPhones are used off the shelf Samsung SoCs as their main processor. Samsung also makes tanks (not water tanks 😂 actual tanks used in war i mean) and they're the people who made world tallest building called burj Khalifa 😅

A very important factor is that Samsung is not integrated and Samsung smartphone has to compete with other manufacturers for their own screens almost on the same foot. Same thing for other components

samsung just looked at all the anti consumer apple money making schemes in the smartphone market and copied them, no headphones (or headphone jack) included with the phone, no charger included with the phone, no replaceable battery, no phone case, the phone being unuseable after like 3 years, etc.
a lot of people with less money loved their older gen samsung phones because they would be reliable products with a reasonable price and with a manufacturer who cared about the products being good and not only the advertisements
Samsung products don't have same quality as before. I don't think we need to consider brand nowadays. No one is making products with intention to last long.
On the face of it. Samsung do make some very very very nice devices and their software support as far as android OS and security updates are second to none. But the problem is they are being seriously undercut to the point where their devices look terribly overpriced compared to the competition. I bought a Motorola for £200 about a year ago. For a similar specd Samsung id be paying close to £300 if not over for it. Obviously there are some caveats where Samsung is straight out better. Longer support, better camera tech and really refined build quality. But the amount of people with huge amounts of disposable income to splash on flashy and expensive mobile phones these days have taken a jump off a steep cliff. Xiaomi have taken over such a huge part of the market as well and Samsung cant compete unless they lower their prices

Carriers going to 36 months so that trade in deal.fpr 24 months is gone
Insurance per phone going from $9 to $17
Software updates bricking $2100 phones and their warranty process accusing the customer
In total no one wa to to be 13 months in a 36 month agreement with no phone.

I own a Pixel 8a smartphone. Over the past couple of days, I purchased a Galaxy S24+ for my mom and set it up for her. Even though the Samsung phone is far more powerful and expensive, I would stick with my Pixel 8a any day of the week. Samsung's One UI sucks IMO. It looks bland and Samsung filled this phone with so much bloat it's nuts. For every Google program there is, Samsung added their own program which again, I'd say is inferior if only for features. Why would anyone want to use a Samsung branded web browser over Chrome, Firefox, or Opera? Why would I want to use Samsung's messaging app over Google's? Why the hell would I want to use Bixby, which never took off over Google's assistant or Google Gemini? Also, it's not as if I can simply uninstall all of these Samsung branded programs. I have to simply disable them, force stop, and even then when going through Google Messaging and changing settings, the Samsung messaging app still wants to pop in at times. IMO One UI is a waste of money and with the hardware that Samsung is putting into their high-end phones, giving people the option to have a fairy stock Android experience would be a great option.
I think the actual issue here is Samsung trying to compete with Apple. If you go back through Samsung's financials they had their most successful years when their devices were more affordable yet still close to that flagship quality. Now I feel like they are trying to be the apple of the Android world and charging way higher prices than what most cell phone should cost. Look at what OnePlus does they are selling phones that one could argue are actually better than Samsung Ultra phones yet they are $300 cheaper. So I think Samsung needs to go back to their roots which is offering affordable high quality cell phones
