For feraligatr i think "sharp teeth" where biting moves have 100% crit (or could just ignore defense boosts if the extra dmg is too strong) For venusaur "Entangling vines" On switch in and on contact: Lowers all enemies speed by 1 and prevents them from switching for 1 turn For blaziken "Blazing kicks" Kicking moves: 100% burn, if target is already burned: either 100% crit or does 1.5/2X power For delphox: "Multi magic" Special moves attack 3x(each dealing 80% damage), -25% accuracy, 2x PP usage
You inspired me to think up some other exclusive abilities for the starters: Venasaur - Toxic Aroma: Active Pokemon (except Poison-Types and Steel-Types) become poisoned if they stay on the field for 2 turns while the user is on the field. Charizard - Dragon Soul: All the user's Fire-Type attacks double as Dragon-Type attacks (Similar to Hawlucha's Flying Press attack). Blastoise - Pressure Shot: All the user's Special Water-Type attacks gain a 30% critical hit chance. Meganium - Pollen Draw: All spore and seed moves are redirected to the user and the user gains +1 Defense and Sp. Defense. Typhlosion - Revenge Fire: If the user's HP drops to 50% or less, all of the user's Fire-Type attacks gain an increased 20% burn chance. Feraligatr - Slick Scale: If the user is hit by an Ice-Type or Water-Type attack, the user's next Ice-Type or Water-Type attack will gain +1 attack priority. Sceptile - Siphon: If the user makes contact with a target, the target has a chance of having their Speed drop -2 and the user's Speed will increase +2 (Similar to the Poison Touch ability). Blaziken - Air Combat: Physical attacks gain +1 priority and a 1.25x damage increase against airborne targets. Swampert - Mud Shower: All Electric-Type attacks decrease in power by 0.5x for the next 2 turns if a Ground-Type attack is used. Torterra- Bark Armor: All Fire-Type, Bug-Type, and Ice-Type attacks do increased damage (2.5x) but all other attacks do half (0.5x). Infernape - Power Blitz: If the user's Attack or Sp. Attack stat(s) increase, the user's Speed will increase by the same amount. Empoleon - Impact Wash: The user is immune to entry hazards and clears them away upon switch in. Serperior - Grassy Shroud: The user's Evasion stat will increase by +1 while in Grassy Terrain each turn. Emboar - Stubbornness: The user takes no damage from status moves (Leech Seed, Toxic, Stealth Rock, etc.). Samurott - Quick Draw: Cutting moves will always critically hit the first turn the user is active (Razor Shell, Fury Cutter, Cut, etc.). Chesnaught - Guardian Block: If an ally Pokemon is targeted by a super effective attack, the user draws the attack to themself and the user's Defense or Sp. Defense increases by +2 (depending on if the attack was physical or special). Delphox - Magic Drain: If an opposing Pokemon use Fairy-Type or Psychic-Type moves in succession, the Pokemon will lose 1/16th of their max HP and the move will lose 2 PP. Incineroar - Torrid Fur: If the opponent makes physical contact with the user, the opponent will take additional damage from Fire-Type attacks for the next 2 turns. Rillaboom - Green Beat: All sound- based moves become Grass-Type. Inteleon - Liquid Meld: The user's Evasion stat will increase by +1 each turn when in the rain or on a water-based battlefield. Meowscarada - Escape Act: The user is immune to moves, items, & abilities that prevent switching out. Skeledirge - Offering Boost: If the user consumes a berry, the user's Ghost-Type attacks will do increased damage (1.5x) until they leave the field. Quaquaval - Duet Dance: If another Pokemon uses a dancing move, the user will immediately use the same move right after.
- Fiery terrain is intriguing. I would also allow rock types to avoid the fiery damage, just cause I feel like they could use a boost. - The ability for Blastoise is WAY too powerful! Just boost its physical defense. That's what the shell is there for, after all.
For torterra I'd do something like. Rich Harvest, when this pokemon uses a berry it gains the effect twice. It has a bonus out of battle effect of doubling how many berries you harvest outside of battle if it's in your party.
@@TheMS991 I feel like doubling the yield of berries you gather would make competitive players happy. Being able to more easily reset evs by farming twice as many ev lowering berries would be great.
@@Xatumi should battle bond really count tho especially since it's gone from the games and anime due to an episode in journeys and only a specific greninja got it which you can only get by playing a SM demo
If I could just change some of the starters abilities with currently existing abilities. I would change: Charizard, Blastosie and swampert to have their mega's hidden ability (drought, mega launcher and swift swim) Meganium: Regenerator Toterra: Solid Rock or Multiscale Emboar: Sand Rush Delphox: Magic Guard or Magic Bounce These are the ones I could think of at the moment.
@@TheMS991 emboar has high offensive stats but too is slow take proper advantage of them, so I decided to use a weather conditions to boost its speed, the idea came wondering about changing emboar's type instead of being fire/fighting why not fire/ground (but that's irrelevant to this explanation).
@@Chicken_strips73you cannot change types , or BST… just took Decidueye and Samurott the two of all 27 starters with the worst stats spreads , GF just revamp with Hisuain forms… For me Emboar is fine with Reckless, now that has access to Drain Punch and Trailblaze is doing things much much better , just test it and then you will know . Charizard ability Tough Claws so can be used with the Belly Drum set and all his physical moveset . Even a mixed set with overheat or dragon dance . (Drought is not a good idea as there better sun setter) Venusaur Thick Fat is too strong for the base so I’m agree with you keeping Chlorophyll Blastoise with Mega launcher and shell smash could be too dangerous , Dark pulse and Aura Sphere with (boost) stab and just two weakness for the Toise sounds pretty good, I like a lot , but think that could be too strong because SS make him very fast (dark pulse flinch , water pulse confuses) , Aura Sphere is an amazing coverage. But now that Sharpness is out and have a similar effect could be great addition Meganium and Regenerator doesn’t have a synergy so is better something like Flower Veil that is basically a boosted Leaf Guard Swampert with swift swim it’s nice and fit Magic Bounce sounds too nice for Delphox I’m definitely agree
@@arnoldwolf6 firstly who mentioned changing typing and BST as relevent to this conversation. I'm sorry but reckless sucks on emboar with 65 in all three defence, sp defence, and speed its not helping getting extra chip damage from recoil but a faster emboar is better with a choice band/specs or swords dance and double speed. It can be physical, special or mix in the sand, yeah this thing is way better and making it rely on sand is to make sure it doesn't go too crazy. Using drain punch and trailblaze sounds okay but considering other Mons can use choice scarf to nullify the speed boost from trailblaze and emboar being slow and it does have a good HP stat but with low defences it's not doing much against a faster Mon with a with a stab super effective move and with it being weak to common types in the meta it's recovery is pretty niche. Physical or mix charizard sounds cool but I prefer charizard to use solar beam for rock types, weakening water types (except walking wake), boosting fire moves and supporting chlorophyll, harvest, proto synthesis, etc... Venusaur I don't really mind about it since it already doing well. Blastoise...... Yeah it's op but I don't really care I just want the bazookas in its design and ability to go hand in hand. Meganium with regenerator yeah I couldn't really find anything really good for it. Swampert yeah that guy needs the speed assist. Magic bounce Delphox just sounds like fun And what's your thoughts on Torrtera?
Swampert is based on an axolotl which is a creature know for its regenerative abilities. Giving swampert the regenerator ability and recover would do wonders for its bulk, and moving 10 points from special attack into defense or special defense would make it a very strong defensive water type with only a single weakness.
Moving point something that needs almost all the starter decidueye and Samurott are the two more affected by this , that’s the main reason of why receive a revamp in PL Arc. About gen 3 and before the main reason is that non exist physical and special split , that is directly reheated with the type of the move. So ma boy Sceptile was the main affected after the split in gen 4. Because almost all his movePool is physical but his attack stat is just decent . Something similar with Swampert line, all water move were special in gen 3 so he needs that special attack for hit with his main stab , Swampert with Regenerator , only 1 weakness and flip turn is just too strong . I like a lot but he could be too broken for his typing , it changes all the mega by itself , almost all the ppl Will build more than 3 grass moves just for dealing with Sceptile and then he just Tera to Fire to avoid that and continues pivoting all day… Regenerator by itself is too strong but in a mon with just 1 weakness , great mivepoool and the ability to teralize turns all the thing too complicated
Serperior’s Royal Skin doesn’t outright prevent burn/paralyze/poison etc. at least as worded since it said immune to “secondary effects of moves” so moves that are entirely status moves, not attacks with chance of status, would still work. Toxic, will-o-wisp, thunder wave, confuse ray.
One way blazakins signature ability could differentiate itself is by instead applying the secondary effect twice so instead of doubling the chance of a secondary effect it doubles the activation making moves like flame charge provide a +2 speed.
Squirtle is my favorite Pokemon, so a better ability for him is welcome (considering the Bulbasaur and Charmander line get much more useful abilities than squirtle). However, defense and special defense raises after every turn is super broken. To make it more “balanced”, should be after every turn in the rain
The reason speed boost isn’t CRAZY op, is theres PLENTY of counter play that’s already built in to every good team, but this sig ability would mean 1. Shell smash go bRrRrR 2. Body press go bRrrRrr and 3. You’d have to have a counter to rain on every team
@@gameswiththeboys6379 yeah. It would be so incredibly broken. It's basically covering the liability of shell smash, making Blastoise an offensive juggernaut with no repurcussion. Or, like you said, makes Body Press just so powerful. The only counter would be toxic stall
This is a cool idea tho time after the abilities could do more. Since some are so bad competitively. Venusaur gets effectively worse. A lot of the offensive Pokemon got defensive abilities as well like infernape and feraligator witch make them go from good to useless aswell
I'd just give swampert Sap sipper and call it a day. No weaknesses Blazeakin a karate boost lile Hitmonchan to make his kicks and punches stronger while also giving him more punch coverage. Sceptile like Greninja to change types depending on his move used to always do bonus damage and make his coverage moves all matter to be defensive against anything
Such a cool idea. Lets see the regional route 1 mammals get these types of abilities. Ex: Furret sig ability Walk Cycle: For every turn its on the field, it switches places with its ally. (Works only in doubles)
@@sephiross6438 beedrill, nest guard. When hit by a bug type move, it’s special defense grows. It is also unaffected by leach life, and any form of sticky Web.
These are all some pretty cool ability ideas, but a couple of the names could definitely use some work 😅. Here are a few that kinda just popped into my head: Charizard - Scorched Tracks Blastoise - Fortify (2/3 Kanto starters' abilities being _____ Boost kinda bothered me) Sceptile - Draconify (Thankfully Galvanize broke the "ending in -ate" rule for these kinds of abilities, so no need to make up a new word)
Charizard getting a speed boost would help its competitive viability Solar Power specs is great for nukes but it wears charizard down easily and without good priority, he gets killed easily by pokemon who are faster
Idk infernape is a glass cannon that ability seems kind of useless competitively. A better alternative would be fast hands and their punching moves would get priority.
For feralghter since he is a crocodile alligator maybe his signature hidden ability would be something like if terrain area is a jungle riverbed 100% to speed and all biting moves become water type and gain 50% power to all biting moves someone let me know what you think of this signature ability what you would call it and or if you would keep it the same or tweak it
Okay as a competitive vgc bss and 6v6ss player I can confirm that some of These starters would absolutely wreck havoc on the competitive side I mean....c'mon u gave blastoise tank boost which could proc so well with shell smash And its also got a plethora of support moves for vgc
i think rillaboom having an ability that makes all sound moves use rillaboom physical attack would be cool, as most sound moves are special and rillaboom is a physical attacker.
I feel a better idea for a Megan Ability would give Protect when using a Status Move instead of Priority. What you came up with is actually just Triage
- Blastoise's Ability could be like Stamina but raise the stat based on the attack type. That way, Protect shenanigans wouldn't be a problem. - Fiery Terrain could also burn held berries to give it a situational but distinct utility from Grassy Terrain. - Feraligatr should get access to Outrage by level up and/or a water type version of Thrash, then get a signature ability that locks the opponent in when Feraligatr uses those moves, like a gator/croc death roll. Don't know what to call it, Vice Jaw? - Rillaboom could have an ability called Percussive. All sound based attacks calculate off his physical attack stat.
Protean actually isn’t exclusive to Greninja. Of course in gen 9 Meowscarada gets it, but even back in gen 6, Kecleon also got it. But technically Greninja still has Battle Bond, so it’s not like it doesn’t have a signature ability.
For Infernape I’d do something like ‘Infernal Rage’ which boosts it’s attack by 1 stage every time it takes damage or when hit with a fire type move, take no damage and increase attack by 2 stages, since I don’t really think 25% off supereffective attacks is doing bro enough justice
Greninja shares protean with Kecleon, so I’d give it an ability called Smokescreen Retreat. If the user is supposed to faint from the opposing Pokémon’s attack, the user would live at one HP, attack, then retreat using a smoke bomb, switching Greninja out. This would also have a 50% chance to lower all opposing Pokémon accuracy by 2.
Here’s my thoughts on what signature abilities to give to the neglected (or genuinely terrible ability) starters Blastoise: Carapace: Contact moves do 50% less damage Meganium: Full bloom: all grass type moves have a chance to lower evasiveness Swampert (purely because it deserves better than damp) Aqualize: All normal moves become water type and do 1.2x more damage Torterra: Fertilise: Berries have double their effect and can be eaten twice (cud chew meets ripen) Emboar: Boxer: does 1.3x more damage with contact moves and takes 33% less damage from contact moves Delphox: Witchery: (serene grace but themed) (Gen 7 got all the ability love) Inteleon: Pinpoint: Crit ratio gets increased and Crits do double damage (sniper meets super luck) Thoughts?
Emboar ability Reckless fits well , Boxer is way too strong . Delphic with serene grace helps a lot I like the Blastoise one combining with assault vest mine him tooo tanky and with small nice of moves to make real damage I like a lot Torterra but it’s better combine cud chew with harvest so not always can be eaten twice just sometimes Meganium needs better , maybe some kind of adaptability or a Big Root turning ability which all heal moves heals X % more than usual.
it would be nice one hability for infernape based on Luffy, like when the hp is below 25% he gains a boost in all stats. This kind of already happened in the anime too, in the battle of infernape vs electivire
„These abilities aren‘t supposed to be broken, they‘re supposed to be well-designed“ *proceeds to give every single starter except Venusaur a game-breaking ability*
I think you kinda missed an opportunity for the Gen 4 starters. Here is what I would do. Torterra: Terraforming- upon entering the battlefield, removes all field hazards and terrain. (Essentially an entry rapid spin that also gets rid of terrain) Infernape: Monkey King’s Staff (his design is based on Sun Wukong)- all physical moves do not cause contact. Empoleon: Emperor’s Presence- causes Pokemon fighting beside Empoleon to deal 15% more damage. (We honestly don’t have enough double battles abilities)
to hisuian decidueye i'd give it a new ability called archerary which gives priority to all non-contact moves like spirit shackle, triple arrows and such but takes away 10-5% (cannot decide on how much HP it should take since it may be too broken at a competetive stand point) HP every turn's end since decidueye somehow has a pitiful base speed stat (actually all alola starters have a pitiful base speed that's the reason incinaror is a support pokemon) to hisuian samurot i'll give it the new ability called vengence which boost a move power by 25 percent if you moved last and 50% if a ally fainted last so a base 50 attack is 62.5 BP and can be 75 BP and turn these 2 boosts cannot be stacked however to balance em out since you know earthquake and many other moves are base 100 BP to hisuian typlosion i'll give it spirit guider which makes the ally's and it's own status moves and ghost moves always hit the opposing team and ignore all accuracy drops and make paralysis only make ally pokemon and itself unable to move only 26.5%(~) of the time instead of 33%(~) and reduces sleep by one turn (if max number sleep turns is 3 turns into 2) so extremely viable in competetive where spore and other status are extremely common i think decidueye should get a better ability since most times long reach is not valuable at all since it'll either die in 1 turn or never out speed so para doesn't even matter so boost long reach to give 25% extra damage as well
Screw losing HP it should just lose the ability to gain priority by a unique status if the moves secondary effect doesn't activate and if it doesn't have that then it losses the ability to have the priority either until it switches out or for 1 turn.
I’d like a Sceptile with Dracolite. I mean I’m playing a rom hack where I have Treecko as my starter and all I have is a Groovyle and a Golbat. I don’t know what else I want on my team.
Charizard is my favorite Pokémon so I came up with an ability for it as well although a lot less creative I call it tenacity which does the same thing as moxie but for special attack instead of physical but i didn’t intend on being a signature ability
Read this Alternate options Venusaur : venomlize sprout This pokemon poison type moves do 50% more damage and statues moves have its effect doubled Charizard : flamery cord When at max HP This pokemon's fire type moves will always burn Blastoice : full throttle moves with higher base power(100) gets a additional 30% boost Meganium : majestic flower Any contact hits puts opponent to sleep Typlosion : volcanic dust This pokemon's fire type moves has 30% chance to poison or burn the target Feraligater : ripped jaws After using a Biting move the opposite pokemon takes damage every turn 1/16 of max hp Sceptile : overgrowed seed In sun this pokemon gets a 1+ attack and special attack Blaziken : brute burn This pokemon's fighting type moves deal 20 % more damage and ignores resistence at a cost of lossing 1/8 HP Swampert : muddy skin Accurecy of moves are lowered by 10% when used againts this pokemon Torterra : eco-enemy Super effective moves againts this pokemon deal 20 % less damage and gives it +1 attack Infernape : fist of monk Fighting types moves of this pokemon recovers 50 % hp back Empoleon : blessed truncheon This pokemom can redirect water types attack to opposite pokemon Serperior : wilder instincts In grassy terrain this pokemon gets +1 speed and ignores any other weather effects Emboar : hot tempered At 1/3 hp becomes immune to statues conditions and competly ignores resists Samurot : blademaster is already pretty good Chesqnaut : will armor After serving a super effective hit the user gets a +2 speed and +1 attack Delphox : tricky spell At 1/3 hp user gets a one time priority on one of its move Greninja : habitance of shadow User can survive a OH-KO if it uses a statue move Decidueye : artillery expert Ranged attacks do 30% more damage Primarina : melodious octave Sound moves gets a 20% boost and has 30% chance to put the target to sleep Rillaboom : brusting bass User sound moves damages opponent 1/10 of its max HP Cinderace : foul play Before fainting user gets a free hit Inteleon : 007 Lowered power moves (60) gets a +1 priority
I think that "Muddy surge" should create the Swampy terrain from the Water and Grass Pledge combo instead of an entirely new terrain, think of it, its name is literally "Swampert", so it should be able to make the swamp terrain.
I think some of these are really good but some don't really lean into what the Pokémon is good at or are waaaay to broken (even with the lense that they wouldn't be super viable anyway because of stat or movepool issues). Here's my thoughts -Venasuar would never opt into using physical stab over special stab when they both offer recovery. Instead, I would make it so opps who make contact are leech seeded. This will deter people from attacking him on the side he's weaker on defensively or suffer giving him a free setup turn on their switch, or a smart sack when he's at low hp to setup the next mon Blastoise's tank boost is a little too slow to be a viable ability. Instead something like a flat 1.5x def/sdef would be much more valuable as it let's him pick up an item instead of running assault vest and allow him to click setup moves when he does. Meganium is just so bad it's hard to make anything look attractive but I think "increasing" the effect of non damaging moves would be pretty nice upgrade for the niche role it fits (extending reflect/terrain/etc to 7 turns, doubling the effect of like stat changing moves, upgrading Poison to badly Poison with toxic powder, etc etc) Sceptiles ability, while cool, does not benefit him at all. Non stab dragon physical moves would be abysmally bad even with the small boost. I propose the ability finese, that calculates dmg using his highest stat that isn't speed or hp (which defaults to spa if ur not brain dead, I know). Sceptile movepool is insane but cripled by his stat split. With this you can run very diverse evasion and still expect him to perform dmg wise Blaziken with Serene Grace is a bit underwhelming, especially compared to other Serene Grace mons. I would give it an increased crit chance but restrict it to physical moves Muddy terrain is BROKEN, I would adjust it to lowering by 20% with a penalty to speed (similar to the ruin pokemons abilitys) The unova and kalos trios could use a small buff as they lack some real oomph to their kits but they fit very well thematically and gameplay wise And lastly, change echo burst from a strict dmg increase to a garunteed physical/special def drop from sound based moves and gice them priority. That way he can play into specs torch song spam in singles, or priority support in Doubles with stuff like disarming voice or hyper voice to lower opposing mons stats for tour partner.
Give atarter pokemon signature moves as well... Slight change with Blazing Spirit: It's just a Serene grace but for burns only (even fire moves for moves that do not burn can burn now) and all contact moves, now have a 15% chance to boost any random stat by one stage... Muddy terrain also increases the accuracy to all ground moves by 10% (so Fissure is 40% accurate now. - If the added bonus goes beyond 100% it's considered 100 %)
For Charizard: Dragon Heart. Basically it'll give it Stab on dragon moves but also make it weak to dragon moves. Kinda like a 3rd typing. For Blastoise: Shell Shocker (subtle nod to the first movie), all moves that make contact have a chance to cause confusion. Kinda like poison touch, but for confusion.
For venasaur forest something which gives 100% accuracy 50% to special attack and physical attack moves 25% to speed only if terrain areas are forest same concept ideas for swampert typhlosion charizard and other starters that would look like they'd get a buff depending on their terrain areas
here are some abilities I would give to some starters: Swampert - I didn't decide on the name lmao - It will work like technician but will heal the user by 50% instead of doing boosted damage, it works well with his whole deal being based on an Axolotl which can regenerate his limbs Meowscarada - Magic trick - Gives 20% for every move with no secondary effect to enflict a status condition (and confusion and leech seed and wrap and it's varient also count as secondery effecs) Incineroar - Wrestle -Like Sharpness but for "Wresteling" Moves like the punching moves and the kicking moves Blastoise - Raining Wish -like Tank boost but only 1 of the defenses being rased randomly, only works in rain and disapear when the rain stops.
Ideas for empoleon: Authority/Emperor: no matter who has the highest speed Stat or speed boosts, they will always bow to the crown and allow empoleon to always go first(excluding priority move like quick attack or extreme speed). Dispersion: for every turn in the rain boost evaisiveness like an illusion that isn't there
i might just add mulch burns pretty well, so maybe only having it work for water and Ice would be nice, this also wouldnt make the expected fire weakness for grass-starters be weird
For my fire starter for my fakemon region, the Chokan region, I gave it the signature ability Stubborn. It basically works like defiant but for defense. It's also on a mule pokemon so it makes sense.
These are cool, but I think realistically the majority of the starters would never use these abilities. Serperior is never going to choose another ability over competitive. Venusaur enjoys being a special attacker with moves that already give it recovery + chlorophyll actually helps it out a lot on sun teams. Empoleon is also probably going to always run competitive just like Incineroar will likely never deviate from intimidate because it works too well as a support Pokémon. The random stat drops can’t be controlled, while intimidate guarantees an immediate attack drop. Rillaboom is another that just gets worse. Grassy terrain is so broken and with assault vest + grassy glide + passive recovery it’s such a pain to remove. I like the ideas behind these, but I definitely think they could be tailored more to suit what each Pokémon does best!
Having both defensive stats boost every turn is absolutely busted beyond belief. Stamina was already a really good ability, and that only boosted physical defense with the extra caveat of having to take damage. Blastoise would use protect every other turn forever with that ability.
I always thought that a signature move should be a 5th move only that specific pokemon can use, make's each pokemon unite and a move you expect to plan around
1:33 I would like to take this time to point out that a full 252 EV invested Attack on Venusaur is equal to its Special Attack...completely uninvested. And that Power Whip has 85%. For reference, the infamous Stone Edge has 80% accuracy. You would also be losing Venusaur's niche as the best Chlorophyll Sweeper/Support for being a tanky Grass type. ... With four weaknesses and no immunities. Venusaur would beg you for Chlorophyll back.
Also fun fact Greninja's Protean is not a signature ability anymore since Meowscarada, and Kekleon also get Protean... So give them signature abilities too...
I feel muddy terrain should lower the speed of all Pokémon who entered the battle instead of accuracy drop. It would be more helpful for a slower swampert.
Oh this sounds really interesting. Even more so this kind of ability would do wonders maybe not just for this sepcific pokemon, but for some other ground types since ground type pokemon are usually pretty slow. Im saying this cause ground types are one of my favorite
Nah muddy terrain to op with accuracy check instantly. Maybe restrict priority moves or give immunity to electric move to pokemon on the field but 50% accuracy or less to everyone is ridiculous when ground is already a really strong type.
6:32 is a typo! Should be Mud instead of Fire! My bad - carry on 😎
How busted physical Venusaur would really be against a steel type?
Hmm protean is not a signature dude battle bond is but they removed ash greninja soooo
For feraligatr i think "sharp teeth" where biting moves have 100% crit (or could just ignore defense boosts if the extra dmg is too strong)
For venusaur
"Entangling vines"
On switch in and on contact:
Lowers all enemies speed by 1 and prevents them from switching for 1 turn
For blaziken
"Blazing kicks"
Kicking moves:
100% burn, if target is already burned: either 100% crit or does 1.5/2X power
For delphox:
"Multi magic"
Special moves attack 3x(each dealing 80% damage), -25% accuracy, 2x PP usage
You inspired me to think up some other exclusive abilities for the starters:
Venasaur - Toxic Aroma: Active Pokemon (except Poison-Types and Steel-Types) become poisoned if they stay on the field for 2 turns while the user is on the field.
@@DSmith3279 these are so good
I love that you started out like “yeah let’s keep it balanced” with venusaur and then immediately went off the rails and never looked back
Venusaur was done dirty.
Also, some abilities sound like reskins of other abilities, which kinda removes the whole "new abilities" thingy. Like, Royal Skin is just Shield Dust
- Fiery terrain is intriguing. I would also allow rock types to avoid the fiery damage, just cause I feel like they could use a boost.
- The ability for Blastoise is WAY too powerful! Just boost its physical defense. That's what the shell is there for, after all.
What if instead of both at the same time it went back and forth? It’s a 50/50 which it starts with and then just goes from one to the other
Rock types dont need morebuffs and they already don't avoid damage from Sea of Flames (Pledge effect).

Specially hisuian decídueye (even if arceus did not have abilities)
Well, SOME have, like Cinderace with Libero, but yeah. Although, some not signature abilities fit (Protean in Greninja for example)
For torterra I'd do something like. Rich Harvest, when this pokemon uses a berry it gains the effect twice. It has a bonus out of battle effect of doubling how many berries you harvest outside of battle if it's in your party.
I think that's a cool effect, but I think he said somewhere about compet. viable. I would love this thought as an in playthrough thing though.

If I could just change some of the starters abilities with currently existing abilities. I would change:
Charizard, Blastosie and swampert to have their mega's hidden ability (drought, mega launcher and swift swim)
Meganium: Regenerator
Toterra: Solid Rock or Multiscale
Emboar: Sand Rush
Delphox: Magic Guard or Magic Bounce
These are the ones I could think of at the moment.
pretty solid
Why Sand Rush? I mean I get it, I'm just curious what bought you to that thought process.
@@TheMS991 emboar has high offensive stats but too is slow take proper advantage of them, so I decided to use a weather conditions to boost its speed, the idea came wondering about changing emboar's type instead of being fire/fighting why not fire/ground (but that's irrelevant to this explanation).
@@Chicken_strips73you cannot change types , or BST… just took Decidueye and Samurott the two of all 27 starters with the worst stats spreads , GF just revamp with Hisuain forms…
For me Emboar is fine with Reckless, now that has access to Drain Punch and Trailblaze is doing things much much better , just test it and then you will know .
Charizard ability Tough Claws so can be used with the Belly Drum set and all his physical moveset . Even a mixed set with overheat or dragon dance . (Drought is not a good idea as there better sun setter)
Venusaur Thick Fat is too strong for the base so I’m agree with you keeping Chlorophyll
Blastoise with Mega launcher and shell smash could be too dangerous , Dark pulse and Aura Sphere with (boost) stab and just two weakness for the Toise sounds pretty good, I like a lot , but think that could be too strong because SS make him very fast (dark pulse flinch , water pulse confuses) , Aura Sphere is an amazing coverage. But now that Sharpness is out and have a similar effect could be great addition
Meganium and Regenerator doesn’t have a synergy so is better something like Flower Veil that is basically a boosted Leaf Guard
Swampert with swift swim it’s nice and fit
Magic Bounce sounds too nice for Delphox I’m definitely agree
Magic bounce Delphox just sounds like fun
And what's your thoughts on Torrtera?
I like a lot but he could be too broken for his typing , it changes all the mega by itself , almost all the ppl
Will build more than 3 grass moves just for dealing with Sceptile and then he just Tera to Fire to avoid that and continues pivoting all day…
Regenerator by itself is too strong but in a mon with just 1 weakness , great mivepoool and the ability to teralize turns all the thing too complicated
give it sap sipper
Serperior’s Royal Skin doesn’t outright prevent burn/paralyze/poison etc. at least as worded since it said immune to “secondary effects of moves” so moves that are entirely status moves, not attacks with chance of status, would still work. Toxic, will-o-wisp, thunder wave, confuse ray.
Typhlosion when it enters battle be like, "Domain Expansion: IRON COFFIN MOUNTAIN"
Lolol true
"It's not favoritism Tina.
If it were Charizard would have 2 signature abilities by now"
Oof wish i said that instead of
One way blazakins signature ability could differentiate itself is by instead applying the secondary effect twice so instead of doubling the chance of a secondary effect it doubles the activation making moves like flame charge provide a +2 speed.
Basically the ability simple
10:08 Yeah sure, Intimidate doesn't make Incineroar busted enough in competitive, lets give him an upgrade, right?
You get it!
i agree lets make blastoise only killable with crits and allow it to set up shell smashes 10x easier
He just need to spam Body Press
Blastoise presses protect once and it’s wraps
Squirtle is my favorite Pokemon, so a better ability for him is welcome (considering the Bulbasaur and Charmander line get much more useful abilities than squirtle). However, defense and special defense raises after every turn is super broken. To make it more “balanced”, should be after every turn in the rain
I highly agree,I love blastoise already but that ability will make him banned
The reason speed boost isn’t CRAZY op, is theres PLENTY of counter play that’s already built in to every good team, but this sig ability would mean 1. Shell smash go bRrRrR 2. Body press go bRrrRrr and 3. You’d have to have a counter to rain on every team
@@gameswiththeboys6379 yeah. It would be so incredibly broken. It's basically covering the liability of shell smash, making Blastoise an offensive juggernaut with no repurcussion. Or, like you said, makes Body Press just so powerful. The only counter would be toxic stall
Quaquival you missed an opportunity for “Dance, Water, Dance”
This is a cool idea tho time after the abilities could do more. Since some are so bad competitively. Venusaur gets effectively worse. A lot of the offensive Pokemon got defensive abilities as well like infernape and feraligator witch make them go from good to useless aswell
FACTS!
I'd just give swampert Sap sipper and call it a day. No weaknesses
Blazeakin a karate boost lile Hitmonchan to make his kicks and punches stronger while also giving him more punch coverage.
Sceptile like Greninja to change types depending on his move used to always do bonus damage and make his coverage moves all matter to be defensive against anything

Charizard - Scorched Tracks
Blastoise - Fortify
(2/3 Kanto starters' abilities being _____ Boost kinda bothered me)
Sceptile - Draconify (Thankfully Galvanize broke the "ending in -ate" rule for these kinds of abilities, so no need to make up a new word)
Dragonize?
maybe dragonification or something lizzar related, also a cool thing is that sceptile just got sheed tail in the neew dlc.
Venusaur, delphox, and swampert have the best ability in my opinion!

Charizard getting a speed boost would help its competitive viability
Solar Power specs is great for nukes but it wears charizard down easily and without good priority, he gets killed easily by pokemon who are faster
Idk infernape is a glass cannon that ability seems kind of useless competitively. A better alternative would be fast hands and their punching moves would get priority.
Thats a great idea!
For feralghter since he is a crocodile alligator maybe his signature hidden ability would be something like if terrain area is a jungle riverbed 100% to speed and all biting moves become water type and gain 50% power to all biting moves someone let me know what you think of this signature ability what you would call it and or if you would keep it the same or tweak it

i think rillaboom having an ability that makes all sound moves use rillaboom physical attack would be cool, as most sound moves are special and rillaboom is a physical attacker.
I feel a better idea for a Megan Ability would give Protect when using a Status Move instead of Priority. What you came up with is actually just Triage
Fiery Terrain…
Muddy Terrain…
Sounds like what ya get from those combo moves :V
amazing video!! You’re so talented!!
Thank you so much!!
Battle bond
For Infernape I’d do something like ‘Infernal Rage’ which boosts it’s attack by 1 stage every time it takes damage or when hit with a fire type move, take no damage and increase attack by 2 stages, since I don’t really think 25% off supereffective attacks is doing bro enough justice
Annaihilape the Second
Greninja shares protean with Kecleon, so I’d give it an ability called Smokescreen Retreat. If the user is supposed to faint from the opposing Pokémon’s attack, the user would live at one HP, attack, then retreat using a smoke bomb, switching Greninja out. This would also have a 50% chance to lower all opposing Pokémon accuracy by 2.
Oops forgot about Battle Bond
Here’s my thoughts on what signature abilities to give to the neglected (or genuinely terrible ability) starters
Blastoise: Carapace: Contact moves do 50% less damage
Meganium: Full bloom: all grass type moves have a chance to lower evasiveness
Swampert (purely because it deserves better than damp) Aqualize: All normal moves become water type and do 1.2x more damage
Torterra: Fertilise: Berries have double their effect and can be eaten twice (cud chew meets ripen)
Emboar: Boxer: does 1.3x more damage with contact moves and takes 33% less damage from contact moves
Delphox: Witchery: (serene grace but themed)
(Gen 7 got all the ability love)
Inteleon: Pinpoint: Crit ratio gets increased and Crits do double damage (sniper meets super luck)
Thoughts?
Pretty solid i like them a lot
Emboar ability Reckless fits well , Boxer is way too strong .
Delphic with serene grace helps a lot
I like the Blastoise one combining with assault vest mine him tooo tanky and with small nice of moves to make real damage
I like a lot Torterra but it’s better combine cud chew with harvest so not always can be eaten twice just sometimes
Meganium needs better , maybe some kind of adaptability or a Big Root turning ability which all heal moves heals X % more than usual.
Bruh DRACIATE! It was literally right there 😂
Shell Smash tank boost Blastoise would go crazy
it would be nice one hability for infernape based on Luffy, like when the hp is below 25% he gains a boost in all stats.
This kind of already happened in the anime too, in the battle of infernape vs electivire
Bro muddy terrain would be too OP. Halves accuracy?! That would essentially be free 5 turns to do whatever with swampert
The king shall rise
„These abilities aren‘t supposed to be broken, they‘re supposed to be well-designed“
*proceeds to give every single starter except Venusaur a game-breaking ability*
It would've been amazing if you gave starters with two types their second type ability so like charizard a flying ability
I think you kinda missed an opportunity for the Gen 4 starters. Here is what I would do.
Torterra: Terraforming- upon entering the battlefield, removes all field hazards and terrain. (Essentially an entry rapid spin that also gets rid of terrain)
Infernape: Monkey King’s Staff (his design is based on Sun Wukong)- all physical moves do not cause contact.
Empoleon: Emperor’s Presence- causes Pokemon fighting beside Empoleon to deal 15% more damage. (We honestly don’t have enough double battles abilities)
6:28 That's pretty fucked up halfing the accuracy like that bro
sometimes you just gotta watch the world (aka competitive scene) burn

to hisuian decidueye i'd give it a new ability called archerary which gives priority to all non-contact moves like spirit shackle, triple arrows and such but takes away 10-5% (cannot decide on how much HP it should take since it may be too broken at a competetive stand point) HP every turn's end since decidueye somehow has a pitiful base speed stat (actually all alola starters have a pitiful base speed that's the reason incinaror is a support pokemon)
to hisuian samurot i'll give it the new ability called vengence which boost a move power by 25 percent if you moved last and 50% if a ally fainted last so a base 50 attack is 62.5 BP and can be 75 BP and turn these 2 boosts cannot be stacked however to balance em out since you know earthquake and many other moves are base 100 BP
to hisuian typlosion i'll give it spirit guider which makes the ally's and it's own status moves and ghost moves always hit the opposing team and ignore all accuracy drops and make paralysis only make ally pokemon and itself unable to move only 26.5%(~) of the time instead of 33%(~) and reduces sleep by one turn (if max number sleep turns is 3 turns into 2) so extremely viable in competetive where spore and other status are extremely common
i think decidueye should get a better ability since most times long reach is not valuable at all since it'll either die in 1 turn or never out speed so para doesn't even matter so boost long reach to give 25% extra damage as well
True
Screw losing HP it should just lose the ability to gain priority by a unique status if the moves secondary effect doesn't activate and if it doesn't have that then it losses the ability to have the priority either until it switches out or for 1 turn.
I would love to see a video on if each Pokémon had a signature move of some sorts.

Here's my thoughts
-Venasuar would never opt into using physical stab over special stab when they both offer recovery. Instead, I would make it so opps who make contact are leech seeded. This will deter people from attacking him on the side he's weaker on defensively or suffer giving him a free setup turn on their switch, or a smart sack when he's at low hp to setup the next mon
Blastoise's tank boost is a little too slow to be a viable ability. Instead something like a flat 1.5x def/sdef would be much more valuable as it let's him pick up an item instead of running assault vest and allow him to click setup moves when he does.
Meganium is just so bad it's hard to make anything look attractive but I think "increasing" the effect of non damaging moves would be pretty nice upgrade for the niche role it fits (extending reflect/terrain/etc to 7 turns, doubling the effect of like stat changing moves, upgrading Poison to badly Poison with toxic powder, etc etc)
Sceptiles ability, while cool, does not benefit him at all. Non stab dragon physical moves would be abysmally bad even with the small boost. I propose the ability finese, that calculates dmg using his highest stat that isn't speed or hp (which defaults to spa if ur not brain dead, I know). Sceptile movepool is insane but cripled by his stat split. With this you can run very diverse evasion and still expect him to perform dmg wise
Blaziken with Serene Grace is a bit underwhelming, especially compared to other Serene Grace mons. I would give it an increased crit chance but restrict it to physical moves
Muddy terrain is BROKEN, I would adjust it to lowering by 20% with a penalty to speed (similar to the ruin pokemons abilitys)
The unova and kalos trios could use a small buff as they lack some real oomph to their kits but they fit very well thematically and gameplay wise
And lastly, change echo burst from a strict dmg increase to a garunteed physical/special def drop from sound based moves and gice them priority. That way he can play into specs torch song spam in singles, or priority support in Doubles with stuff like disarming voice or hyper voice to lower opposing mons stats for tour partner.
Scorch Boost would actually be pure sex. These Charizard sweeps are about to go crazy
I salute you my friend, for not give the dragon stab abillity to charizard, that probably make some gen oner angry somewere
For venasaur forest something which gives 100% accuracy 50% to special attack and physical attack moves 25% to speed only if terrain areas are forest same concept ideas for swampert typhlosion charizard and other starters that would look like they'd get a buff depending on their terrain areas
here are some abilities I would give to some starters:
Swampert - I didn't decide on the name lmao
- It will work like technician but will heal the user by 50% instead of doing boosted damage, it works well with his whole deal being based on an Axolotl which can regenerate his limbs
Meowscarada - Magic trick
- Gives 20% for every move with no secondary effect to enflict a status condition (and confusion and leech seed and wrap and it's varient also count as secondery effecs)
Incineroar - Wrestle
-Like Sharpness but for "Wresteling" Moves like the punching moves and the kicking moves
Blastoise - Raining Wish
-like Tank boost but only 1 of the defenses being rased randomly, only works in rain and disapear when the rain stops.
honestly really balanced
Keep chloriphyll on venusaur but give it a signature move that combines power whip and giga drain
Ideas for empoleon:
Authority/Emperor: no matter who has the highest speed Stat or speed boosts, they will always bow to the crown and allow empoleon to always go first(excluding priority move like quick attack or extreme speed).
Dispersion: for every turn in the rain boost evaisiveness like an illusion that isn't there
There are 2 types of fans of the famous playboy bunny pokemon:
-The one that likes bunnys
-The ones that are degenerate
lol and u can find each of them in the comments
Sceptile - phantom scale
Ups evasion when successfully uses a move
*competitive unfairness screeches*
i might just add mulch burns pretty well, so maybe only having it work for water and Ice would be nice, this also wouldnt make the expected fire weakness for grass-starters be weird

For my fire starter for my fakemon region, the Chokan region, I gave it the signature ability Stubborn. It basically works like defiant but for defense. It's also on a mule pokemon so it makes sense.
OMG Quaquaval's Dance Dance is gonna make "Dragon Dance" op
Don't let this guy ever cook again 💀

This would make Pom Pom style Oricorio the perfect Quaquaval counter.
Having both defensive stats boost every turn is absolutely busted beyond belief.
Stamina was already a really good ability, and that only boosted physical defense with the extra caveat of having to take damage.
Blastoise would use protect every other turn forever with that ability.
Nah you did Blaziken so dirty with that ability

I always thought that a signature move should be a 5th move only that specific pokemon can use, make's each pokemon unite and a move you expect to plan around
If skeledirge actually had that ability, torch song would go CRAZY
Muddy terrain should be like this
All grounded pokemons speed gets lowered by 1 stage??
1:33 I would like to take this time to point out that a full 252 EV invested Attack on Venusaur is equal to its Special Attack...completely uninvested. And that Power Whip has 85%. For reference, the infamous Stone Edge has 80% accuracy. You would also be losing Venusaur's niche as the best Chlorophyll Sweeper/Support for being a tanky Grass type. ... With four weaknesses and no immunities.
Venusaur would beg you for Chlorophyll back.

Im saying this cause ground types are one of my favorite
Gives a bit more competitive advantage
Very cool video! Maybe a new name for Dracolate could be 'Draconic Heart'?
I feel like the Swampert terrain could have just been the swampy terrain effect already in the game
For emboar alternate power up punch and drain punch to negate the furnace ability

Nah muddy terrain to op with accuracy check instantly. Maybe restrict priority moves or give immunity to electric move to pokemon on the field but 50% accuracy or less to everyone is ridiculous when ground is already a really strong type.
