I want to say thank you for this awesome video. I wasn't sure I would be able to do it myself (minor experience doing stuff like this), but after seeing your video I was determined to do it myself. I was quoted 309.99 plus tax for the screen repair, I also had to change the battery due to it not working neither (109.99 + tax). I bought all the parts needed, LCD, battery, including the glue, clamps, (already had hot air machine) for about 105. Was able to repair successfully and now I am a happy camper. Thank you Brother!
When you get to the part when you have to feed the lcd ribbon cable through the frame, simply loosen most of the torx screws on the motherboard, and disconnect the rest of the ribbon cables, then the motherboard will be able to lift just enough that you can get the lcd ribbon cable through. make sure you clip the lcd ribbon cable on first, then set the lcd screen in place, if you don't you may end up sticking the new lcd on the frame and the ribbon cable won't line up, which means you'll have to heat it up and try again. good luck.
Thank you, only issue I had was getting the ribbon cable through. Added pressure to the metal backplate to give myself a little more room. Finally went though
Thanks for the guide, fixed my phone today. One thing that had me stumped for a bit is inserting the screen cable through the tiny hole on the side. I wonder if there is an easy way to push it through.
I ordered the part "with frame", thinking it'd be slightly easier -- did I do the wrong thing? Seems like perhaps there's a way to just move all the guts over to the new frame easier than dealing with the glue around the screen (on front)? Do you know? (Thanks, great video by the way!)
Thank you for this video. I'll be doing this tomorrow. Hope the screen works...by the way, how'd you connect the screen? Did you remove the motherboard or were you able to get the screen in without having to do that?
hey man great video - i gave my P4XL to a Google certified repair shop to replace my screen. They were not able to stick the back cover on after 5 visits - kept telling me it was a seal that wasnt working and that they used a 3xl seal because they didnt have the right part. It looks like its just glue! My back cover is still partially coming off. I noticed when i would charge the phone at night it would expand. What type of glue is this? At this point im down to clamp it and reglue it myself
Is it the same process for replacing the standard Pixel 4 screen? I've seen other guides where they go through the back and totally rebuild the phone on top of the new screen.
@@RealWorldReview Thanks, I'll make the change once the replacement screen arrives and I'll see what happens. Thanks again for the video and for sharing your experience.
You list "Double-sided adhesive" as part of the supply list but I don't recall seeing you use it. What is it for and do I need it do replace the front glass?
It is part of the list of tools I put on all my videos. I wouldn’t recommend it for the screen, but I generally replace the adhesive for the back, so that’s where you can use it. Those things aren’t entirely required for every repair, but they’re nice for other repairs if this isn’t the only one.
Right now looks like for an OEM part ( an original part ) its like $70-$110 in America at least. Ifixit.com or witrigs.com Also the ifixit kits are great! (the heat sponge for melting the screen glue isn't that good though, i would recommend a heatgun or hair dryer)
Got my pixel 4 xl screen broken recently and according to my sources no one is making unoriginal copies of the display as the phone was not that popular. I guess that's a good thing as all of the parts only are legitimate lmao
The heat gun I use goes from 600-1200F, but if you use a heating pad 150-250F should be enough. Generally I use the heat gun for 3-5 seconds on one spot and move around. You can feel the pressure, which will let you know if to use more heat or not.
will my phone keep its water resistant function after repair if I apply same adhesive from your affiliate link in description and follow same procedure as you did in this video ?
Not really, getting the water resistance back is pretty hard to do once the phone has been opened. You'd need to use special watersealing glue and also make sure that all of the potential entrance for the water is sealed shut. But basically once opened, better not try submerging phone in the water.
Hi, great video.I was told there are different quality of screens. Local phone repair places gave me two options 1. Google original screen(includes more than the screen like the part with the side buttons) $420. Includes labor. 2. After market screen, I think only the screen part. $220. Includes labor. I was told this one can break more easily, it's not gorilla Glass. I don't really mind it as the google option can get me a whole pixel4xl. But does non google screen display images just like the original? In 90hz? Thanks.
@@RealWorldReview Can you also talk about if either has gorilla glass, because they're also offering to install a screen protector. Going for the 200 option. Thanks!
Yeah, feeding the cable though can be difficult, but the Pixel 4 line seems slightly easier than the Pixel 3 line. At least with the Pixel 4 you aren’t forced to remove the logic board to replace the screen

I added pressure to the shielding backplate to give myself a little more room to work with, didn't have to remove any more screws
Thanks for doing this, super helpful. I would never have been able to do this successfully on my own without this video

Thanks man! I did this simply for the fun of it after snagging a cracked phone for $120 on eBay. I should get a nice $100 profit fixing it myself
Nothing like skipping the most difficult part in getting the connector for the screen through the gap

@@RealWorldReview jkkjk
It isn't that difficult to push it through, just be careful of the white wire running along side the LCD connector
@@adacustomcomputers4709 it's still the most difficult part of the whole repair.
@@craigspalding2622 no it isn't
Nice job.. and thank you for the repair walk through 👍🏿
Nice job. Google didn't want to make it easy.

In your video, you suggest to clean and remove the old glue with the speed of 400%. I tried hard, but I'm still unable to achieve such speed.
Where did you buy the new screen from?
Thank you for this video. I'll be doing this tomorrow. Hope the screen works...by the way, how'd you connect the screen? Did you remove the motherboard or were you able to get the screen in without having to do that?

What would you charge for a screen replacement on this phone?
does face unlock still work after screen change? I've seen that it doesn't work for many...
I’ve never had it fail in my 5+ times repairing the 4 series

When you tried to test the screen were you getting sound and touch only? Or was nothing happening?
I don’t remember, I just remember that the screen had to be “on the phone” in order to test to make sure it was working, which it was.
Great tutorial, least we know the screen ain't coming out on its own dam 👌👌
How much cost the screen? Hi from Greece!

How to get a original display for pixel 4 ? And where can we buy original display as it came from factory ?

What's a safe temp for the phone when heating up?

what are those two tabs at the bottom of the new screen?
Shipping I think. To make sure the cable doesn't get damaged. They do this on the Pixel 3XL, 4, and 4 XL.
I doubt it's water resistant anymore, IP 68?
Once you break the phone there's no more water resistance
Does OEM screen support 90hz?
Yes
Thanks man!

They're the same screens, one just comes in the frame. #1 is way over priced, but it is a lot of work compared to #2

When you replace the screen is ut still 90hz?
Yes
Wow.... You replied quick
Is it really that simple? Pixel 2 was the easiest to install up until this. The pixel 3 line is HORRENDOUS. You have to remove everything.
