Android Auto on an Indian Challenger using the Ottocast U2-X Pro

- Using a device called an Ottocast U2-X Pro to have Android Auto in the Indian Ride Command system. Polaris currently does not support Android Auto on their Ride Command system. Thanks to this wireless device, however, it is still possible to use it. Note, this only works with Indian Challenger, Pursuit, Chieftain, and Roadmaster Limited and Dark Horse models which have the 7" Ride Command Infotainment units which modems and support Apple CarPlay. Excuse my allergies killing me during this video.
Because CarPlay and Android Auto are essentially the same technology with different licenses, this clever device which is designed to make Carplay connections wirelessly can also be used to fool your stereo into thinking the screenshare signal from your Android device is actually a properly connected Apple device. Works like a charm!

Car Play requires that a microphone be hooked to the Ride Command to activate, so you'll need either an in-helmet Intercom System like a Cardio or Sena, or will need to pair a set of Bluetooth headphones or speakerphone to pair to your bike.
I personally use a Cardo PackTalk Bold:

Great info. I've seriously held off since 2021 up-grading my 2017 chieftain limited because they didn't offer Android auto and most importantly wireless Android auto. Now I may pull the trigger after this deployment.
Thanks for the tips. Ottocast has a sale on right now too. Ride safe!
Question, with this setup are you required to have a headset and or a microphone to get CarPlay to function? I have a 2020 Challenger Limited and want to use CarPlay primarily for music and maps, would this allow me to do so? Great content btw! 😊
Yes, you need a headset of some kind, even just air pods paired in the saddlebag.
Got tired of staying on old firmware and heat stability issues with the carlink. Headed the Otto route now.
@carl barrett
edit: re: mic issue with latest ridecommand firmware. I reached out to ottocast support and they gave me the option I needed to set in the ottocast settings.
When ottocast starts connecting, on the blue screen click the settings icon (bottom left). Scroll down to audio options and choose option 3. Unplug ottocast and reconnect.
Working mic in Android Auto.

Ridecommand firmware: 4/23
Sena headset
DUDE THIS WORKS. I'll be making an updated video but good catch!
do you have an ottocast initial install video?
would the A2Air Pro Wireless Android Auto Adapter work or only the U2 Carplay work? You talked about fooling the system. I have a samsung phone.
thanks for reviewing! Your affiliate link is broken, FYI
Did you ever have an issue with the volume being incredibly quiet? I'm using this device, rolled back to the 2021 software and everything works except the sound. I saw someone on a forum had the same issue but no resolution. Max volume is maybe as loud as normal conversion levels.
Try turning the volume for Media up on your phone.
I do not see the U2-X Pro listed on the Ottocast website. They list the Ottoadapter MX Wireless CarPlay/ Android Auto 3-in-1 Adapter. Would this be the "new" model? Any experience with it?
Ottocast makes a number of adapters, some of them have more complex front ends, but the only one I've ever used is the U2 - X
I bought the MX, It doesn't seen to work. I don't see a U2 X Pro, only the U2 Air Pro?
You seem to be the best. I have a 21-year roadmaster. I want to use a Samsung phone, but I'm relieved that Android Auto is available. My question is, do I have to rollback the update to November 21 to use the AutoCast? Another thing is that I often see phone or Siri not working when using Apple CarPlay. What's causing this
I need to make an updated video, but you can now use the Ottocast with the newest Indian update. You just need to make sure the Ottocast is on the newest firmware and is on Audio Mode 3, and voice commands and everything will work.
@@cl2eep_rides Thank you for your sincere response. Have a nice day
Good morning, I bought the unit for my 2022 Challenger. It does not work at all. Everything connects but can not launch AA. Any tricks would be appreciated. The Company is in China and has been totally unresponsive. Thanks Joe
You probably need to roll back to the November 2021 Ride Command version on their website.
wow. i didnt know any of this information! thanks!
Ottocast doesn't work anymore with latest update.
Which update? April? I tested it and works fine except the voice commands were messed up.
The link is broken. So I ordered an ottocast 2 (same name as in link) After spending $185, won't work. I am lucky I am able to return it on Amazon. I wish I had direct line to speak with you to do exact step by step and ask questions. I have a cardo, samsung s22, so tried having different combinations. No joy. Help needed if you can tx .
@@Frogman172me too, he does a lot of information talking, but doesn’t really show you how
Do I have to have ride command in order for this to work? I just received mine and I'm not getting anything accomplished at all.
You have to have the modem/nav package.
Hey. I have Apple iPhone. Was thinking of using this Ottocast. My phone has problems directly charging to lightening chords. So. Will this work on my 2023 Indian pursuit? The Carlinkit 5.0 does not.
Both the Ottocast and CarLinkIt will work if you roll back your Ride Command to the November 2021 Ride Command update, but yes the Ottocast will work.
@@cl2eep_rides actually. Hooked up the Ottocast to my 23 pursuit CarPlay works seamlessly with current ride command software. The carlinkit 5.0 did not.
So should I disconnect the phone to the bike and connect the phone to the cardo and ottocast? Then have the cardo and ottocast connected to the bike? I have a Samsung z fold 3, also can I have the intercom connected as well to talk to friends?
You can let the phone connect to the bike, but there's no real reason to and it can confuse things. The required configuration is to pair the Cardo or other headset to the bike, plug the Ottocast into the bike, connect the phone to the Ottocast. And yes, your intercom still works fine. Intercom will always connect, irrespective of whether you have something connected to the bluetooth. I do like to connect my phone to the Cardo as "Phone 2" and the bike to the Cardo as "Bike" or on an older Cardo as "Phone 1", because that way the Cardo keeps talking to the phone if you shut the bike off.
@@cl2eep_rides thanks bro
Does this still work? Just bought one(not exact unit, this one is sold out and not avail on Amazon) and trying to get it to work and I'm getting zero results. Did they nix the Otoocasts too?
This does still work perfectly fine, but you do need this unit. Other ones can work, but not as well. Still use my Ottocast every day though.
@@cl2eep_rides thank you!
What's the version that the voice command works on? Just so I know exactly which version I need to download
November 2021
My cardo won't play anything after it's connected. I have a 23 challenger, galaxy s23, ottocast. Android auto works on my bike but only plays sound through the bikes stereo? Need help
Go to the Indian Music screen. In the top right there is a toggle that switches between helmet sounds and the bike sounds.
@cl2eep_rides I unpaired everything and reset everything and now I can't get android auto to connect. Can you please give me a very simple step by step assuming I'm an idiot because apparently I am.
Got it working for the bike and cardo unit, but now I can't connect to my wife with the cardo? Any ideas?
Installing this today. Have cardo bold also. Can you still use normal intercom w other cardo still? Also can i take phone calls while riding? Update I am using the A2air, doesnt seem to be working just the pic of bt with the device name pic and nothing else
Yeah of course. As far as your Cardo is concerned, the bike is just like a phone, just something paired to Bluetooth. The Intercom to another Cardo is a whole different channel.
🤘🤘🤘
Do you know of any that BLUETOOTH MAPS. I don't have it on my bike but want it on my screen.
You do have to have the modem/nav option enabled on your Indian for this to work. It doesn't use Indian's mapping software, but you have to have the modem/nav upgrade to have Car Play.
@Carl Barrett - cl2eep NO navigation, I have the base challenger. If you blutooth music like pandora why not Google maps or waze...? Makes me wonder
So if I'm not going to use the voice command... this would still work for without having to get any other device's?
You'll still need to pair a Bluetooth mic of some sort, because that's a requirement for Apple CarPlay, which is needed for these adapters to work. If you don't care about voice commands, you can just pair a set up bluetooth headphones or a speakerphone to the Ride Command and keep them in your pocket or throw them in one of the saddlebags or cubbies.
Anyway for this to work without a helmet?
You can pair any kind of headset to work as a mic, like air pods or something.
If I pair it with my helmet headset to begin do I have to have my helmet with me at all times for it to work? Thanks.
Yes, or at least the headset unit. The stereo needs to think it has a mic paired to it.
So I have a 2022 Roadmaster...not limited. Will it still work?
You need to have the a modem/nav module. If you've done that upgrade, than yes.
What kind of trunk is that? Advanblack?
It's a TCMT trunk with a Advanblack quick release mount.
how to get that version NOV 21?
Indian unfortunately pulled them from the site, I could try to host the old updates!
Do you have a Samsung phone?
I use a Pixel 7 currently, but I've had Samsungs as well.
