Hey dude, found your channel recently. I see no uploads in a while, (so as a total stranger from the internet), I hope you're still making video/film/commercials & whatnot. Even if it is just personal projects every once in a while. All the best dude 👍

Many thanks! And yes, still cranking out lots of video content, just for clients right now (took a traditional 9-5 because I had a kiddo and wanted the stability for a few years). Hoping to get back into some more of this stuff at some point in the not-too-distant future :)

If I catch him using one of these exact book lights I'll poo myself, BUT, I do think he uses this method all the time :D

@@DroiMedia Deakins uses a cove light (bounced light that forms a cove from multiple light sources at different outputs strengths). Shane Hurlbut is known for the book light.

How's this different from a softbox?

It's not enclosed, it bounces and diffuses light, and it's not directly attached to a light. A softbox is enclosed, just diffuses light mostly (yes there is SOME bounce), and usually attaches to the light. Otherwise they pretty much produce the same nice soft light, just a different way to get to the same spot 😁
