Adam Goodsell Same here! I started making videos two weeks ago posting them to my facebook and suddenly people are like, "I didn't know you had background in film." Hahaha
you must be the short note guy in the class who totally missed the fact that he explained the optical flow functionality which i guess 90%+ non-pro have any idea about
Your results will be even better if you adjust the shutterspeed to the planned speed e.g. 4 times slower = shutterspeed*4. So 1/48 shutter becomes 1/192 shutter, reduces the motionblur significantly and therefore helps the interpolation. Also avoiding crossing objects (like the finger in front of the phone case) helps reducing artefacts. Happy slow-mo!
using high speed camera (normal brain) using a program to fake slow motion (bigger brain) saying to the viewer to put UA-cam video speed at 0.5 (smartest human) slowing down the entire video so that it's look less bad when slow motion (intelligence of a god) drawing a frame in between the other frame (brain so smart it's using all the power the universe could create) not showing the video and saying to the viewer to imagine what would it be in slow motion (brain so smart it's making more power than every universe at any moment in time combined) slowing down the video and deleting every frame so it does not look bad (infinitly smart brain destroying and creating time and space and physics faster than infinitly fast)
there is a great plugin called "twixtor" that works on after effet makes a great job by making your tape super slowmo. i really like it i suggest to try it.
Can I just say, your background is fantastic! I love the dark shelves to the right which we are familiar with from most of your other videos but now on the left having your equipment bunker open with the natural light to really pop behind you. (You can't see it right now but I kissed my fingers the way an Italian person would do whilst saying "beautiful" or "perfect" or "benissimo". Then to top it off with the far left light that could either be a simple lamp or a light with a warm filter gel placed over it. I just wanted to say that this is probably one of my most favorite aesthetically pleasing tutorial type shots you have done (among every other great one). I love you work and now have an affinity/passion/desire for photography and videography. In school I always tanked in my art classes because drawing and painting stick figures always gets you through the third grade, but now after having graduated college a few weeks ago I am deciding to take my bachelors degree in English and make it fit this passion you have inspired in me. Thank you for such great content! Logan
higher shutter, not fps :D If you top out your fps and want more using PP or Twixtor programs, just film in higher shutter. Crisp stop motion frames create more information for that software to convert into better final image ✌🏻
Confession. It has taken me a minute to get into the flow of your channel. However, in the past week, I think I have went Game of Thrones-Binge watch cray cray on your stuff and I officially dig it. haha Just wanted to share the love. Keep up the good fight, you are crushing it, my man. I've learned bunches.
This is great! a client wanted us to add some footage that he had taken, to the project we were working on AND wanted it slowed down. The optical flow absolutely did the trick.
I love your energy, way of explaining and talent man!! keep up the good work. You seem to be able to educate me, inspire me and just make me laugh trough the whole video. Thank you so much for sharing YOU with us through youtube
Every time I watch one of your videos I want to subscribe again. It's rare that I come across a channel that makes me scroll down after EVERY video just so I can double, and triple check that I'm subscribed. I am. And I know I am. But I just have to make sure. Keep up the good work my man.
I can't believe you didn't talk about how important a high shutter speed is when dealing with frame interpolation! Motion blur and optical flow DO NOT work well together!
and the option you are looking for is "render and replace" which you can find after right clicking on your video (at least in 2018 CC version) edit: peter said the shortcut is just "r"
My dude, you just saved one of my stop-motion scenes... And I wasn't even googling how to, it just showed up in suggestions - I thought my video was finished and I was going to leave it as it was, even though it was the one scene that bothered me. But nope. I just had to see if I could make it smoother and it frickin worked! Brilliant. Thanks man!
Hey Peter. After watching a few of your vids, I realized just now that I’m not subscribed. So wanted to say thanks for all your work helping the little guys make their own stuff by showing us tricks like this. Cheers!
Hey Peter, just a quick note on this. What's most important to get a good result from opticalflow is that every single frame is sharp and has no motion blur. so, what you have to do is set your shutter speed to something like 1/125, 1/250 or shorter. as a result, the software can differentiate between two frames alot better and can generate a new frame between them without these artifacts showing up in your example. i never used optical flow, instead i'm using twixtor but since that is quite expensive i see why one would like to use optical flow since it comes with premiere pro. what i do know is that they both work quite similar, which is why both of them deliver way better results with a short shutter speed. in fact, you can get a really smooth 4-10x slow motion from 24p or 30p footage without any weird artifacts. so, maybe you want to add this to your video since this is actually much more important than any of the other things you mentioned. after that you can add back some motion blur to your liking, with plug-ins like rsmb for example. if you have a look on my latest video on my channel, the part from 00:05-00:12 is recorded with 30p and looks like its shot at 120p. no artifacts at all.
oh and of course: keep up the good work. i really like your attitude! one more thing: actually this is how i work on all of my videos. i shot at quite short shutter speeds, something that one shouldn't do normally, as you don't get natural motion blur in your shots. on the other hand, i can get slow-motion from my 4K 24p files and still use them at normal speed if i want to by adding motion blur in post with rsmb, which works so well that you really can't tell the difference between it and real motion blur. its also used on cinema productions. and i don't have to mess around with different ND filters to get a correct exposure.
You are such a BOSS trainer! I have learned so much from you, even your backdrop how you use lighting to make your background interesting. You are so gifted and have truly mastered your craft. THANK YOU PETER I LOVE YOU WE LOVE YOU THE UNIVERSE IS REJOICING WITH YOU!

it kinda sucks ive used it. its basically a different optical flow
Will Pochepan you don't know how to use it, optical flow sucks compared to good twixtor
