These turned out SO YUMMY! Family favorite right away, especially my husband who is the picky eater haha. I mean they were mismatched sizing and some stuck together, but overall I’d give myself a solid B. I didn’t have bacon so I added sautéed mushrooms and spinach, topped with pesto. Served with roasted chicken. So good! Thank you for the dinner idea Chef John!
My Godfather and I make gnocchi regularly. We've never done it with sweet potatoes but this looks absolutely amazing. We've done them with butternut squash but this color is so beautiful that I have to try them. Thank you, Chef John!
This is so delicious and easy to make. It just takes a little time to make the gnocchi part of it. I just now made it for my family and they are in heaven. I did add some of the grease from making the bacon and fried the gnocchi. Thank you so much! Recipe not chewy at all.
I made a vegan version of these about a week ago - just sweet potato and semolina. I caramelised some leek and infused it with fresh thyme. Then braised the stems and leaves from a bunch of beetroot on the side. Sprinkled chopped walnuts on top. The combination of orange, purple and green was so gorgeous and the sweet flavour of the gnocchi paired perfectly with the earthy and savoury veggies. But honestly I think those gnocchi go with almost anything!
i love that you show you are human...and not an unattainable but absolutely photo perfect chef...so thanks it looks delicious...and after all isn't that the goal?...😊🍁
This will be the third recipe of yours that I have tried. The Gnocchi is in the fridge. It looks perfect and I certainly hope it floats when I boil it. I've also prepared the firehouse chili and the creamy corn pudding. They were delicious. Thanks for your videos! You are a fantastic teacher.
I love all things gnocchi! We had a famous chicken soup restaurant that burned down. . . i swear their secret ingredient was gnocchis instead of dumplings..i cant get the moisture right otherwise
Great stuff. Never tried gnocchi before and never tried making dough myself. In the end everything turned out great and mega-tasty. Big thanks to Chef John for easy recipe with very useful tips on the process of cooking.
Just made a double batch of this recipe, and it was soooo good. Didn't do the bacon butter, but I did a wine sauce with caramelized onions and frozen peas to counter the pasta chewiness. I was honestly expecting a consistency like those korean rice sticks, which I don't particularly like... these are not that... super soft and pillowy. I cut mine about the size of mini marshmallows. Love them and will definitely do this again (not to mention I have a bunch uncooked/frozen for later). Thanks for the inspiration!
Chef John, I’ve been away for awhile and found myself thinking about you especially since I find myself doing mental gymnastics after forgoing grocery shopping for a month! Anyway watching this was like visiting an old friend who doesn’t need an explanation about where you’ve been but is just happy to have you around. Thanks for making a bright spot in my day, and oh yeah the gnocchi looks great- think I’ll give it try!
This recipe was clandestinely simple to make, and outrageously tasty. I just pulled off blobs of dough, ran a fork through them, and I was done. I’m so full typing this words escape me. I used leftover red sauce but the half dough I froze will get the brown butter bacon when it’s time. DEF MAKE THIS

Really I want to say thank you for your work your channel really inspiring stuff and real cooking no complications keep it up sir with you humor very refreshing
cant believe this channel has been running for 13 years..!! i started watching 11 years ago and learnt most of my current culinary knowledge from here :')
In that first step after adding the flour I can totally see adding some yeast, kneading it and making some beautiful orange colored sweet potato bread.
I MADE THIS TONIGHT IT WAS INCREDIBLE!! My sweet potatoes were HUGE so they took about 30 mins in the microwave but apart from that everything else ran so smoothly and it truly was an enjoyable meal to cook :) It tasted amazing! Thank you chef john! You are after all the good looking of my home cooking
I had no sweet potato so I made regular potato gnocchi, and I had no bacon (it’s getting hard to find with this pandemic, you know), so I made a garlic cream sauce. Other than that it was exactly like yours, right down to the difficulty rolling the ropes. It was an incredibly delicious dish, very popular with my family, so thank you Chef John!
This is basically a sweet potato version of halushki (Hungarian dish, that i love with all my heart), which is extraordinarily intriguing (im Hungarian Gypsy). We do regular gnocchi, cottage cheese, cream cheese, bacon, browned butter (only one version of several).
these remind me of sweet potato version of "palushki" which is normally like a finger-sized potato gnocchi. I like them fried in onion/bacon butter and eaten with sour cream.
Japanese sweet potatoes are stunningly good, and purple sweet potatoes used in a second batch would make a visually amazing compliment to these orange gnocchi!😁
Rather than using a fresh cooked sweet potato, could I use canned? We have pressured canned sweet potatoes from the garden last year. This recipe looks like a GREAT way to use some for a side dish!
Sweet potatoes are popular for Thanksgiving and usually sweetened around here. I can see this with a brown sugar & butter sauce as something a little different. Maybe garnished with teeny tiny marshmallows too.
In my town we do it the other way around. If she floats she's a witch and we hang her. If she drowns she's not, well mistakes do happen. Haven't had anyone floating yet, but you can never be careful enough so we keep testing.
Just imagine how cute and otherworldly they would be 😮 Lately I’ve been making pasta sauce with beets which makes a pink sauce - imagine what that combo would look like
Maybe letting the dough rest initially, before rolling it out into snakes, would be a good thing to try. I'm going to try this with butternut squash as I don't have sweet potatoes/yams on hand. Thanks for this recipe, Chef John!!
I remember seeing something like this on old school Good Eats.😊💭 Alton used a combination of potatoes, though. I imagine all sweet potato would produce a less dense gnocchi, which sounds very appealing. I'll probably end up trying it both ways. 😋 The gnocchi look so vibrant when they cook; I was in awe. 🤩 I wish I could smell it cooking. 🤤 Thank you, Chef. 🙂 💜💚
I just wanted to pipe in and say thank you for this vindication. My boyfriend always asks what I put on chicken/pork/potatoes and since I'm a gremlin who measures and plans nothing I just go, "Scarborough seasoning," and every time he looks me in the eyes and goes, "Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen. It's not going to happen." 👍

You are the Chef Boyardee of your Sweet Potato Gnocchi.
Chef Boyardee was a great man. He made C rations for the army. The C stands for combat!

Made these today - pure joy and so delicious! Thank you.
Perfect timing! Bought a bunch of sweet potatoes from the farmer's market today! This will be made this week! Thank you!!!!!!!

This looks delicious. I prefer my sweet potatoes savory, not sweetened, and this is right up my alley.
I don't usually like gnocchi but my sister made these sweet potato ones and I LOVED IT! Thanks so much Chef John for always making yummy recipes.

They sound great with creamed spinach as well.

Chef John: Let's add butter to this fried bacon...
Me: Dude.....
Real butter is good for you
They cancel each other out
Absolutely Love Watching You. ✊🏽🙌🏾 Definitely a Reliable Source.
Laughed out loud half a dozen times during this video, John. 😂 'witch' is a good thing.

Please know that I like your videos before I even watch them. Much love Chef John. You're a gem.
Chef John, these gnocchi are genius!
It's been a while since I watch a Chef John vid, I almost forgot how good his presentations really are.
Brilliant timing... I’ve had a couple of sweet potatoes staring at me for a few weeks...

Japanese purple sweet potatoes are beautiful. The flesh is so vibrant.
"If they don't float, they're witches". 😄
He’d make a terrible witch-finder general. If they FLOAT they’re witches. His way would disappoint the mob.
@@overworlder But he could feed them gnocchi.

I’ve put on so much weight since finding chef John.
Totally worth it! 😋
And as always, enjoy!

chef john mixing up the o sounds for gnocchi and ricotta made this video even more enjoyable than it already was
This might be the best Chef John video I've seen so far.
I appreciate you showing your process. I learn so much from it.
A gnocchi making mantra is 'we never let the food win'. One of your funniest, Chef John!

Thanks Chef John for clearing up the yam/ sweet potato controversy.
A fig compote would go so well with that spectacular recipe. Thank you.

Those look amazing and when I am done failing at peorgie I will give this a try.

You had me at Sweet Potato... but the Bacon Butter was the coup de grâce.
Farmer’s market, here we come. 💜
Chef John you crack me up! And you gave a great idea for dinner. Thanks as always!

I used to make a similar recipe except no egg in the dough and served with a sage and burned butter sauce. good vego option

Thanks John! I'll be making these this Sunday night for pasta night!
