    Dear Fr Casey,
    As an ex-Protestant and ex-atheist, I have recently joined a Catholic parish and begun RCIA. I would like to add that this Sunday I have begun praying the rosary and have been doing so every day since. I love it very much! I am also an ex-atheist, ex-protestant , if you have time for it, I would recommend 4 rosaries (watch gabiafterhours), and especially the book the ways of mental prayer
      It goes into how to do mental prayer, and the various stages of prayers in prayer life
      Adoration is also necessary if you have free time for it and it is available to you, it is great to be with Jesus

    I was an alter server for a Franciscan parish and my Patron Saint is Saint Francis of Assisi. I now currently attend the Tridentine Mass at a parish run by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP). I will still state that my love and heart will remain Franciscan, and my faith has gone to a more traditional calling. I may not be in route to becoming a priest, but I am happy to see more priests, monks, and friars celebrating their vocations. I am happy to see how conservative and traditional the young priests have become, it gives me hope that the Church will be in good hands for the future. If the Church were to visibly shrink, we Catholics are known for never going away and thrive underground while in persecution (for example: Great Britain during/after the Protestant Revolution; the persecution of the Irish by the British; the Russian and other Latin or Eastern Catholics behind the Iron Curtain). We are the One True Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Christ Himself upon the rock Saint Peter. We may be persecuted, spat on, beaten, cursed by others, plundered, and shamed, but we will always be the One True Church. I pray that my hopes of a bright Catholic future will be true.
    This hope comes after reading an amazing book on the history of the Soviet Union from prior, during, and after its collapse called "The White Pill: A Tale of Good and Evil" by Michael Malice. I read that book then read through the history of Our Lady of Fatima and the current crop of priests...especially those from the FSSP and others. We are in a time of struggle, but we will prevail. Seeing so many new friars, priests, monks, nuns, and converts should be evident enough that we have a very positive future ahead.
    Keep up the great work Fr Casey.

    I was raised in an atheist family, but I have always felt some inner spiritual emptiness, and have been searching for a way to fill it for years, I have studied the teachings of Buddhism, Islam and others. But in the end, it was in my local church run by the Friars that presented a form of spirituality and worship that just felt right to me, from the first time I attended a mass there. I'm 36 now, married and a father of two, my wife and children are all baptized, and I am about join them, it makes me a little nervous to be honest, but I know it is the right thing to do. I stayed at a Benedictine monastery once. It was a Friday night and they had the best fish and chips I ever had. I asked to talk to the guy and back who was making the fish. I went back there and asked if he was the fish friar. He said he was the chip monk.

    I'm happy that the Order called you to Italy. I'm certain it was a great trip for you. And frankly, given all your tireless efforts as a Franciscan, I'm sure you deserved it.

    As another commenter noted: falling birthrates, delayed marriage and a hyper-competitive dating climate are contributing factors. I would add to this an increasingly polarized economy that leaves more people fighting each other for scraps. Monasteries have always functioned, in part, as an escape valve either for those who are fed up with the rat race or those who - for one reason or another - have "failed to launch." This isn't a popular or glamorous perspective to take, and I don't mean to denigrate monasticism in elucidating it. Quite the opposite, actually: it takes a special kind of "ambition" or "motivation" to want to give up the chance at a comfortable life for one of constant spiritual and physical struggle, even if your basic needs are taken care of.

      @WilhelmEley You have no clue what you’re talking about bud, no offense. Dating and traditional relationships are all but dead in the world today. The male loneliness epidemic is extreme.

      @@NoneofYourBusiness667 I don't disagree that have always been men who, for one reason or another, fail to find a romantic partner but what exacerbates it today is greater income inequality. The latter is the true crisis, and while it doesn't address it on a systemic level, monasticism at least provides an opportunity to ameliorate the suffering of those experiencing its worst effects.

      @@Fiona2254 Read the account of Saint Moses the Ethiopian. He didn't enter monastic life with entirely pure motives and he struggled at first to maintain the spiritual disciplines. Nevertheless, he eventually overcame his personal hurdles and died a saint and martyr, whom we venerate to this day.
      You're correct in implying that vocations are spiritually discerned but real-life circumstances can play a role in that process.

      @vivacristorey4363 Місяць тому +1

      For everyone offended by the comment, you are missing the point. People are called to religious life for all sorts of reasons. And in times of crisis sometimes more feel called - in part because of the crisis. That doesn't mean that the vocation isn't real, but that a crisis for an individual or a society can help remind us of what is truly important.

    It’s very inspiring and gives hope in our faith and youth that God and the Holy Spirit continues to work in our world. I always pray for the Clergy, missionaries and everyone who evangelizes specially to young people. The youth needs guidance from those who give the bread of life, the word of the Lord, to heal them from the deep pain and suffering within their minds and souls. Too much emptiness, anxiety, depression that makes them fall in addictions and all sort of problematic behavior. Thank you Fr. Casey and all doing amazing things to rescue them. THANK YOU LORD JESUS!!!!!

    This is great. For a long time I have not been worried about a lack of vocations. Why? Because God will build His Church. Religious orders are not necessary for the Catholic Church to thrive. Yet God has used them to keep the Church thriving for centuries and will likely continue to do so.
    I am happy to see so many young vocations. In some ways I am not surprised. Many say that our younger generations are more depressed and unfulfilled than ever. What could be more fulfilling than a life dedicated to God?
