- An old VHS Electronic Press Kit to promote Bryan Ferry's Mamouna album in1994. Interviews with Bryan Ferry, guitarist David Williams, drummer Steve Ferrone and producer Robin Trower. Also seen is some rare studio footage of Bryan at the piano doing a piano & vocal version of The Only Face & Mamouna.
Such a beautiful man.
so mamy layers to his music. they dont make songs like that anymore. god bless Mr Ferry
At least once a year 'Mamouna' will play in my car, and always, someone will ask what it is. I'm happy that I've turned at least two people onto it. It's like sharing a beautiful secret, and feeling pretty proud of myself for doing so. It's like a tapestry with real gold thread sewn into it.
I like to play "Chain Reaction" nice and loud. One of the most haunting songs he or anyone else has ever done. The whole album is perfection from the songwriting, performances, and production to the sleeve.
CR is a perfect album closer, no doubt!
Mamouna is a sonic treasure trove that keeps giving. One of my most loved albums.
I'd love Bryan Ferry to revisit "Mamouna" with just a piano.
best and most heartbreaking album of all time.
An absolutely gorgeous, textured and melancholic album.
This is a lost masterpiece!! I have only just discovered it, after years of loving the late Roxy and Ferry sound. I think the tepid reviews, on it's release, kind of buried it. That, and perhaps being more of an atmosphere piece than an album containing obvious hit songs. I have to agree with Robin Trower, this is probably Bryan's best complete work as a "solo" artist. I've been listening a lot to the 80's into the early 90's Ferry / Roxy era. I love the albums, such as Avalon, Flesh and Blood but also some less known gems like Is Your Love Strong Enough. The production and the SOUND of it all on a nice hi-fi is so enveloping. I think this is also probably his last great complete solo album (of this era of sound. I do like the musical standards he's done too etc.) As I mentioned, it doesn't have the smash radio songs from his Boys and Girls album, like Slave to Love and Don't Stop the Dance. But, hearing this work, for the first time, that quality is actually a strong point in creating that mesmeric mood. The elements are united without immediate "songs" jumping out at you. This gives it more of the possibility to be a grower. And I know that it will grow. It's incredible to me, that Mamouna has slipped under the radar (my own included). It may have been brushed aside by critics as merely "pleasant", or an "album of B-sides" / "album tracks". But, on re-assessment, (actually my first assessment) it's "all killer, no filler". Excuse the awful reference. My congratulations to everyone involved in this towering, beguiling, emotional, oceanic work.
Saw him in Dallas on this tour. Brilliant show.
Mamouna is a timeless, haunting, beautiful work of art! It is often overlooked but this album contains some of his most brilliantt compositions!
Absolutely agree an overlooked masterpiece
Agreed; can't wait for the reissue with bonus and demo tracks
@@p.m.8666 - Not only overlooked, but - incomprehensibly - very much maligned when it came out.
He is a genus musician. A total class act in his music and his personality. Mamouna has some of his most melancholy lyrics.
He's dead-on about painters setting aside their work for a long time & coming back to it with fresh eyes . Fortunately, this album is a fucking masterpiece right out of the gate.
great album, Mamouna is far underrated. A master piece. Bryan Ferry, an amazing artist. Always been and will be.
Underrated does not exist, .any way shape or form.....
That is what I tell people this is a masterpiece
Cracking underrated album
So good looking, and talented. Wow!!!
One of the best albums I've heard, few have such style.
LOVE M A M O U N A ... Thank You BRYAN :-)
Masterpiece! R.I. P. David Williams.
Toujours impressionné par la profonde beauté de cet album, même 26 ans plus tard et je dirais surtout 26 ans plus tard avec le recul
A great singer & songwriter, his songs have an amazing haunting quality to them, there is no one else quite like him. And STILL such a classy and eloquent looking guy, sadly today's pop stars wouldn't know the meaning of those words, now it's more fashionable to walk around looking like an unmade bed. Ed Sheran for all his talents, classy & eloquent aren't part of his resume. Seeing him at these star studded award ceremonies he looks like someone who's come to empty the bins but just snuck in to see who's at the show. Bryan is a true class act and a proper gentleman, long may he continue to make great music, a legend and a true musical icon.
He is such a beautiful looking man and outstanding performer and writer
Vanessa Jones he’s the whole package.Very rare human being.
fantastic album !
.... Robin Trower .... an Excel guitarrist that was part of PROCOL HARUM .... progresivo rock band ....
39 Steps is a stand-out track. Powerful.
Thank you for posting this. "Mamouna" is perhaps my favourite Bryan Ferry album from beginning to end. Certainly, the atmospheres, images and feelings that it evokes are incomparable. Hearing a version of "The Only Face" here with only Bryan's vocals and piano is just divine. Much gratitude once again.
Rewatching this documentary was a great idea. I still adore this album and its atmosphere. It's like a warm pillow to fall into. "Which way to turn" might be my favourite, but it's very hard to decide.
Люблю Браяна Ферри, очень талантливый человек!
Certainly one of his best ... Beautiful sound quality, that's for sure.
Brilliant record!
I love this documentary, love to see him and bandplayers working on an album.
It's so pure, and love to see Bryan Ferry in his comfortable habitat 😉
And i am drowning in his eyes anyway 😂
@bryanferry ❤
Love this album, it takes me to a wonderful beautiful Bryan Ferry universe.
My favorite solo Bryan album. Love the title track, Gemini Moon, NYC, The Only Face, and Your Painted Smile the most, but it's all fantastic.
Прекрасный человек, эстет во всех отношениях.
The consummate artist!
No other music can match the depth and texture of his work
Thank you so much for posting this - I remember seeing an edit of it on TV in the 90s in the Classic Albums series. Mamouna is one of my all-time favourite albums, and this is just a joy to watch!
I read once a reviewer describe Bryan Ferry having the ability to make three dimensional music. I thought that spot on.
Mega thanks a lot for posting this historical musical documentary from 1994 when I just started my musical journey in our Ukraine!
"... Cause it's the album I wanted to make... and there it is."
Thank you thank you thank you thank you Colette =D
Thank you for this great documentary. A masterpiece what more can you say and my favourite BF album. Apparently it's his lowest selling album which given how long it took to make he must have taken a big hit financially.
an under rated album. very mellow
This was very enjoyable. I think back to the summer of 1972. I had already got Ziggy Stardust and then shortly after in HMV I heard what turned out to Roxy's debut album. What chance of these two albums being released on the same day?! Magic times. At least Bryan is still with us and Roxy are in the RRHoF at last. Thanks for posting this.
ALL HAIL BRYAN FERRY AND ROXY MUSIC 🎶💜🌞🤘🏿
Very good documentary... Love it
Beautiful intro on the keyboards solo. Gorgeous

What a fascinating video. It's so interesting to hear Bryan Ferry & others discuss his process of writing his amazing songs. Thank you for sharing this, Roxysiren.

Nathan East base very young, awesome
Love him🤍
this is fantastic stuff! how much do you want for the VHS? =D
David Williams (Michael Jackson) (Madonna) detected !!!
And back then he was like he didn't know anything about Brian Ferry. Wow!!!
Lik' wine !
beautiful and haunting album..overrated? sure!
it's not overrated
The main ensemble track almost sounds like a Sade track
Thanks so much for posting this! Anyone know what he says at 2:57, after New York? I can't decipher it
"You look incredibly bored Richard" is what he is saying as he laughs. The documentary was directed by Richard Bell so I would assume that might be who Bryan is talking to at that point.
Thanks very much. I never would've figured that out! What a funny (comical & odd at the same time) thing to include in a promo video, but the comment & BF's face(s) as he says it are so endearing. Makes Bryan even more adorable, & it's such a contrast to the torment seen on his face earlier when singing in the studio. Again, thanks
Does anyone understand what BF says at 2:41? I can only understand "New York" and then it is "blabla" to me and I would like to know what he finds so funny =D
He says 'You look incredibly bored, Richard' and then laughs.
@@whitedogleeds Thank you! :)
At 12:30 is that an Arp String Machine or a Roland Vocoder?
What's the song at the beginning
"The only Face" from the 1994 album Mamouna but in more basic form.
Why only married for two jears???
He was initially married for 20 yrs to Lucy Helmore. His 2nd marriage lasted two years; it was reported in the media that it floundered when he changed his mind about starting a Family.
I used to be a big fan but i lost interest around this record...
Nope.. 80%, a mundane, mumbling, over produced mess. DULL!
