Thank you for these videos, they have now become my reward for the long ride and swim workouts I do on Sunday’s in preparation for Ironman Canada. They help to distract from my job as a nurse during this difficult time.
Video production is getting so much better and better. Keep up the great work. Love the coffee project, think that is super cool what you all are doing in highlighting a company. Also name of last song please really liked that one.
I just discovered TTL recently, and your videos have been the perfect motivation as I start to ramp up my training for my first Half Ironman this June. Thanks for the awesome content!
Another fabulous video. Love the bike footage. If I am not mistaken, I spotted a pair of On Cloud Stratus running shoes, on Eric's feet? If so welcome to the On family Eric. I have been running now for 37 years Yes I am that old, during which time I have worn them all! And On shoes are the very best I have ever owned. I have countless pairs on the go, at any one time. I would love some TTL inspired coffee, and whilst I am awaiting a TTL shipment here in the UK. But not sure about getting coffee shipped all this way would work. Great video, see you next week!
Nice work Eric. I enjoyed this weeks video more than last weeks. Felt it was easier to follow the "story" of the week. Enjoyed the more vlog style. Keep up the work.
Looked like a fun hair raising decent on the road! I can't wait to get back on the pavement. Cool concept with the coffee roast feature, I look forward to this.
Loved the downhill finish. Looks like a blast! Great idea with the small business coffee shops. I appreciate the humility you guys have as you approach a new project. 👍🏽
Glad to see Eric cranking it out again, seems like it has been a while and I was starting to get worried. The hound dog is so cute, my Labrador is very interested.
I’m just usually unable to film hard efforts since I’m doing them and Paula can’t film when we ride outside. It’s good to have Wattie helping us out a bit 🎥
Love the philosophy on highlighting small batch roasters!! I would love to learn about any special sustainability practices the roasters employ and their business model!
Great video! I’ve been following more closely since the big results in Daytona (congrats, btw!) and am so excited to see the crossover with coffee! I have almost the same coffee station setup. And would be really interested in supporting TTL coffee, but I’m not sure if it will be available in Finland. Any idea if you’ll be shipping internationally?
Yeah I’d say starting with something like the Breville barista or barista pro is a great place to start. We have the profitec pro 500 machine, plus a grinder, which is a more semi-pro setup haha
Yeah I’ve never done it before but I couldn’t find my AirPods (which are on the fritz due to sweat) I liked it a lot, but I’d want to confirm they were waterproof if I was going to do it more 😬
Yeah :( there are some issues with food shipping internationally and also freshness of coffee is so crucial. We really wish we could magically do it worldwide
A ramp test question if I may, I was under the impression that you’re supposed to remain seated. Am I wrong please? It may be purely my lack of knowledge and understanding.
You're correct, it is supposed to be a seated effort. I've heard some say that short periods of standing to give the butt a break won't affect the result but I'm not sure how true that is.
Our coach doesn’t mind if you stand. I think different coaches are trying to get different things out of it. I stood for the last 20 seconds or so, discussed that with my coach, so all good. I think standing for a minute or more would probably defeat some of the purpose
Just subscribed, looks like great stuff. You are pouring sweat indoors, do you have a fan going on each of you? I mean like a big fan. I didn't spot one in the video. You can really hurt your power numbers without proper cooling. As a TrainerRoad user I perform their ramp test in ERG mode. A couple things I have noted... they give a short ramp up into the next effort, say 2-3 seconds. That prevents the sudden resistance that requires such high force that you talked about. Also they give a 3 second countdown to the next interval so I can spin up 3-5 rpm, again to prevent the need for high force low rpm "bogged down" efforts.
Yeah we do have one of the Wahoo super fans going. It’s like a jet. I just have a ridiculous sweat rate. I can anticipate the power jumps, so that’s slightly less of an issue than the feeling of riding with the brakes on. I’m a pretty “dynamic” pedaler for lack of a better word, and having zero sensation of momentum really messes with my ability to put out power like on the road
Generally speaking, the ramp test is used to find your max heart rate (HRmax) which you can then use to help dial in your training zones. Our HRmax decreases as we age, which is why athletes will take it every year or so. FTP is used to determine max sustainable power for one hour, which can also be used to determine training zones, and general efforts for varying race lengths, and just to gauge your progress in training. Deciding which test to take depends on what you want to do with the information.
Personally I find doing the ramp test much more approachable than the max 20 minute effort, which you would really have to fully rest for to do well. And plenty of people have an insane FTP and can’t translate it to a 70.3 effort at all.
Ramp test is also used to find your Max 1min power, not just your Max HR. Both used to set your HR and Power training zones. I do a ramp test every 6-8 weeks. Anyone wanting to improve or use structured training will take them on a regular basis. It’s also worth noting that your indoor/turbo power might not be the same as your outdoor power. I’ve not done a 20min power test for nearly 2.5yrs. Ramp tests suit me better, personally. Mentally they feel shorter. Power increasing every minute so I have to keep pushing myself. Possibility of scoring new HR and Power scores. Compare that to a 20min test where you are trying to pace your effort and really give it gas for last few mins. If you don’t pace your effort at the start, you risk burning too many matches too early and blowing up. Ramp testing - you have to take the power as it is and deal with it. You can either hold it or not. As soon as you can’t hold the power, you stop. Lots of pros and cons and everyone is different. As Eric said earlier, you have to be fully rested to give it 110% effort too.
Eric, your right! ftp tests are the worst day of the year. I'd rather race the Boston Marathon with no training than IM tests to start training. Are you both still going to race Homestead?
We’re working on some shorts that could be run in, but they’re more lounge-y. We’d like to do a collaboration for that type of thing, like the coffee. Leave it to the pro athletic companies ;)
Pretty sure there are no worldwide rules for sitting or standing in something called a “ramp test”. Depends what your coach is trying to get out of it.
@@ThatTriathlonLife No “worldwide” rules as you say, but your numbers won’t be as accurate. Standing can cause a spike. We do these tests to set our training zones as we get better aerobic fitness but imagine having your training zones wrong and your over reaching! It’s also like changing gears when in Erg mode during a ramp test. The KickR has to adjust slightly. You’ll notice a drop of watts until it stabilises again, which is why it’s best to stay seated for greater accuracy. Otherwise why test. Remember you have lots of followers, other triathletes and road cyclist that look up to you guys. Smile dude! 🙂
As much business as possible to the roasters? Does that mean you are not taking a percentage of sales? Fine either way but in the interest of full transparency, you should divulge that.
These videos are SO good guys! I am training for my first triathlon and they have definitely motivated me a ton!
You'll crush it starting is the hardest part and then you get hooked 😉
The Paula/Eric and Heather/Wattie combo is my fav!
Great video, love ur honesty, humility and the fact that u support small craft businesses! BTW, the 1/4 zip windbreaker is awesome thanks!
Eric you've crushed it with the graphics lately - always watching your videos for shooting and editing ideas thanks for the inspiration!
So cool to see how much Paula has grown in confidence in front of the camera over the last year or so.
Part of it is just getting used to it. I had to surprise her with the camera back in the day :)
She was so not into it at first haha

So glad we’re able to be a part of your day :) thanks for letting us know, that means a lot to hear
Well done video. That intro with logo passing by was awesome and the end downhill was great. Music was perfect!
Thanks man! Much appreciated! Stoked you liked it
Love the energy in these videos! Great crew!!
Your videos punch me in the face with good vibes and motivation every single time. Thank you and keep the good work!

Excited to hear about the TTL coffee project!
Just ordered my first bag of the TTL coffee subscription!
Awesome! Thanks for getting on board! Can’t wait to get the first shipment out 🙂
@@ThatTriathlonLife Hopefully you'll bring it north of the border too i'd love to be a part of it!

The shots from the last minutes descending where amazing !!! Great content !!!
TTL has always been inseparable from coffee, now it IS coffee. Proud of you guys. Also the ending pace for that long run progression is making me ill.
Nice work Eric. I enjoyed this weeks video more than last weeks. Felt it was easier to follow the "story" of the week. Enjoyed the more vlog style. Keep up the work.
Thanks! Some weeks we’ve got a story, some weeks life is more scattered :)
Love the Lemmon downhill sequence!!!!
I live in Ventura and bike up to Ojai every week. I'll need to check this place out this week! Great idea to feature these small places.
Eric with not a drip of sweat: "That was fun."
Great music! And that coffee club idea-brilliant!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Indeed that music for the descent was spot on!
@@kevincashatt7040 Do you know the title and artist?

Wasn't going to wait! Ordered coffee from Bonito today. Love supporting small businesses.
Awesome!

Just did my ramp test the other day. I agree. Worst day of the year. I do not see the tank top in your product catalog. Will that be available soon?
We’re probably going to do a pre-order of it pretty soon. It’s actually pretty involved to make since it’s reversible 👌
@@ThatTriathlonLife It looked awesome so I am ready to buy. Cheers.
Nice training area. The mountain video was great.

Where do you get these awesome tracks from.
absolute class videos! How are the over ear headphones on the trainer? I've considered it but been worried it would just pool with sweat.

Anyone know the name of that last song? Great tune and another great video Eric. Keep it up mate.

Love the coffee project, too bad that it’s US-only. Any future plans making it avaliable in Europe?
Phase 2 (if it goes well in the US) will be Canada, but if we hire a full team of people to help us, we might be able to do EU.. goals!
