That Mule is just too cool. I'm somewhat of a novice player. Started playing when I was 55 years old. I'm 59 now. I'll never be a pro; but I don't really care. I just love the things. I already own nine guitars, and a bunch of amps and such I don't really need. Pretty silly. But, since I don't drink and smoke any more, I've gotta have a vice of some sort. Resonators really fascinate me. Haven't added one to my arsenal yet. But, I think you have me sold. Great review. Thanks.
Get a reso! I got my first one last year and haven’t put it down. I got it to learn slide and open tunings...haven’t had so much fun on the guitar for years :)
I have a brass bodied mule with a cut away... amazing guitar. Beautiful sweet sound, that works great for fingerstyle guitar... and they look great too. Matt's a great guy to deal with as well.
My first introduction to this channel. Incredible production value and just the right amount of playing/talking to make me want more. I'm impressed that the tabs for your demo songs are just a click away. New subscriber. Awesome channel, very well-thought-out to appeal to the appetite of acoustic guitar nerds.
Mule Resophonic Guitars are getting better and better every year, while the price point stays relatively the same. I received mine earlier this year and couldn't be happier. I am extremely happy and glad I got a Mule.
Great review Tony. I've never heard of Mule Resophonic Guitars before this video, but I am sold. I've been wanting to get my hands on a steel guitar for several years now and I think I found the one I want, minus the pickup. Gorgeous instrument. It'd be great to see more videos by small luthiers on your channel. You reviewed at least one Kevin Kopp guitar a few years back and I'm actually having a guitar built by him right now. After I take receipt of that guitar I think I'll put down a deposit for one of these from Matt. Cheers, from one guitar geek to another.
Love that sound. Mule in the #1 maker of resophonic guitars in my book. Have you reviewed the Fender Acoustasonic Jazzmaster yet. Some people don’t like it, but it’s going to find a niche soon and it’ll take off in popularity.
That has an amazing warm tone! I have always wanted a guitar like that but could only afford to do a drop D or E and use my imagination lol. Are you gonna be showing how it sounds plugged in? I hope so 😁👍🏼👍🏼
I have a Recording King Swamp Dog with the patina finish. I love my guitar but the patina finish on the Mule looks better. More natural looking than the Recording King.
I thought you would never stop talking and start playing. I've been watching Tony for years and I know the format, but maybe you need to intersperse the playing throughout the video instead of all at the end. Or maybe start with an appropriate song at the beginning and do the standard tunes at the end. And if it has a pickup... PLUG IT IN!
Thanks Tony! I was never very interested in a resonator until recently (watching the Prime series "Justified" with the soundtrack by Ganstagrass) their sound is killer. and this was a great review! The Mule guitars sound great. Thanks again. Is there such an animal as a "budget minded" resonator or should I simply save my pennies. I have a pretty good collections so far. I've got G.A.S. and my budget for a resonator is considerably less than the Mule product line would allow. Got any recommendations? These sound phantastic but....
When I buy a new guitar I want it to look like a new guitar. Same goes for a new car or a new anything. The guys who bought and played those guitars in the 1920's didn't want a guitar that looked 40 years old then. They wanted a shiny, scratch free, cherry looking ax. I prefer to put my own battle scars on my own guitar. So much for that. Back around 1977 I went to the Dobro factory in southern California and had them make me a 12 string all metal resonator guitar. They didn't have one made up but I roamed around the factory and found a nice "shiny scratch free" body, a 12 string tail piece and a 12 string neck all in separate bins on the factory floor. In a few hours time they bolted it all together and I had my Dobro 12 string. One of the very few in the world at the time. Unfortunately I sold it about 10 years later having got bored with the metallic sound and wanted to go back to wood. Big mistake. I should have held on to it but I was doing a lot of traveling and couldn't manage owning several guitars. I sold it for about $500, around what I paid for it, to a member of my band who played steel guitar. He passed away several years later. His family contacted me about the guitar and I told them it's history. They sold it for $5000. Silly me!
I don't see it that way at all. It seems more like a finish on the guitar. Not all wood guitars are made with a clean natural finish. Adding "aging" to the metal guitar seems similar to adding finish to a wood guitar.
I saw someone in the subway playing a guitar that looked similar to this. i know nothing about guitars but his music sounded a lot more southern? like twangy. do you know the name of that kind of music played with a guitar that looks like this? thank youu!
Resonator was one that I always wanted until I bought 2 They were Gretch models. Bought them at the same time. I really wanted them to work for me, as I only play Blues. They both ended up in a cupboard unused after 6 months. Awful guitars. Sold them both on. Back to the trusted Guild M-20 solid mahogany build that works very well.
Great review man! I love the way this guitar sounds. Anybody would be lucky to own one of these. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the patina they add. Don't get me wrong it looks great and looks old and all. like other people have previously stated, you have to earn patina over years and years of playing. It shouldn't just be bought. I feel like these guitars are in a sense "road worn". Not a fan of that.
Well , Tony , I've watched some of your stuff , pretty good by and large . One gripe tho' , nothing gets a look-in unless it's 2 grand or more . Time to rename this "The guitar review channel for millionaires and bank-robbers " Cheers to all , Nige .
You have to wait 5 minutes in to hear the guitar then you don't even plug it in to hear it's electric side? C'mon man! We gotta hear that thing plugged in!
Leif Linder yes I agree but have you seen the prices, they cost like two grand or something if I'm correct, I better get patina, hell I better get an original 20s resonator for that, lol
That sounded like crap. Yes, I'm aware it is a reso and you have to stick with the songs all reviews here are played in. as such, they didn't benefit this guitar. Still sounded like garbage.
My favorite small bench guitar company reviewed by my favorite guitar reviewer. This is amazing I can't believe it...

It's great that you replaced unhealthy habits with music, good luck to you :)
go back and get your cigarettes it's a lot cheaper....
I absolutely love seeing comments like this
Keep on playing man!
Get a reso! I got my first one last year and haven’t put it down. I got it to learn slide and open tunings...haven’t had so much fun on the guitar for years :)
Now if I could just balance my Net income with my Gross habits...
He starts *playing* the guitar at 4:51
Thanks man
Thank you.
Thanks
story gives context
You the real MVP
I have a brass bodied mule with a cut away... amazing guitar. Beautiful sweet sound, that works great for fingerstyle guitar... and they look great too. Matt's a great guy to deal with as well.
what would you say is the difference between the brass body and the steel body?
My first introduction to this channel. Incredible production value and just the right amount of playing/talking to make me want more. I'm impressed that the tabs for your demo songs are just a click away.

Tony you've finally gone heavy metal!!!
Absolutely beautiful instruments, and this feature is perfect! Lovely work all round, thank you!
What a gorgeous guitar ! From the old worn look to the lovely wood of the neck , it screams "BUY ME !"
jesus!!! that sounds phenomenal!!!
Damn that thing is incredible!

I'd be happy to build you one! e-mail me via the website muleresophonic
I emailed you on Sunday. Still waiting for a second response. Cheers!
Did you order the Mule and if your holding it, what do you think?
Beautiful guitar and beautiful sound
This has to be one of the finest instruments I've heard in my life.
Too bad I didn’t hear the P90 pickup sound, but an awesome resophonic guitar.
In a sense, it almost sounds like a banjo especially when the lower notes are played. It has a ring that definitely sounds somewhat similar.
Awesome guitar 👍
that is a beautiful instrument and I envy you for getting to play it
See it's an instrument you can play anything on it. Thanks for doing your thing.
Gorgeous tone! You should check out "Perfect Touch Picks" by far my favorite finger picks of all time!
I was so pleasantly surprised at “Freight Train”, thank you
Love that sound. Mule in the #1 maker of resophonic guitars in my book. Have you reviewed the Fender Acoustasonic Jazzmaster yet. Some people don’t like it, but it’s going to find a niche soon and it’ll take off in popularity.
That sounds really good.
Did I just hear The Chain? Superb playing!
Sounds and looks fantastic
Wish i'd had the money for a mule guitar. Sounds absolutely stunning. Its next gen ultra expensive collectors stuff for sure.
Thank you for the sheet music links ! I like your review though I ain't a guitar player.
4:39 dad jokes lol
I beleive mule is only making tricones? I just got my build confirmation and I'm very excited to get mine. 4 to 6 weeks!
That has an amazing warm tone! I have always wanted a guitar like that but could only afford to do a drop D or E and use my imagination lol. Are you gonna be showing how it sounds plugged in? I hope so 😁👍🏼👍🏼
Great Review Tony,
I think the late great Chris Whitley also play this guitar.
Sounded awesome.
Regards Rob, from Australia..
Ah man that thing is freakin awesome!!!!!! And man can you ever play it!!!! Wow can you play brother!!! Be an awesome guitar to play Mr banker!
Enjoyed it as always. Never seen anything like that Mule though.
Wow... What an incredible instrument! Wonder if I could get hold of one here in South Africa...
The next guitar you should review is the riversong guitar!! It’s beautiful!!
Beautiful guitar and great tone but I wonder why so stingy with the inlays? I'd prefer to have more for this price point
I’m not much of an acoustic guy (I started on electric cuz it was the cheapest option on amazon) and I wanna try a resonator they look so cool.
yes, resonator looks awesome but CAN YOU DO WRIST THUMP?
I have a Recording King Swamp Dog with the patina finish. I love my guitar but the patina finish on the Mule looks better. More natural looking than the Recording King.
Please please please make more videos on reviews of independent luthiers.
If I ever win the lottery I’ll be purchasing one of these.
Love it!

It's overall tone is very similar to a large headed minstrel banjo !

Dr. Harmonica I quite agree with you. It's like buying torn jeans - I don't get it.
I don't see it that way at all. It seems more like a finish on the guitar. Not all wood guitars are made with a clean natural finish. Adding "aging" to the metal guitar seems similar to adding finish to a wood guitar.
Great review! Is that a single cone or tricone?
This one's a Single Cone, steel bodied Mule :-)
Great sound! But you're clipping your mic preamp a bit. Guess it's a loud guitar!
Like a D-28 & a Gibson banjo had a baby
Can we get a quick slide lesson
Its just like playing a very old song when you play it
I saw someone in the subway playing a guitar that looked similar to this. i know nothing about guitars but his music sounded a lot more southern? like twangy. do you know the name of that kind of music played with a guitar that looks like this?
thank youu!
Maggie Murphy Folk
Is there a list of guitars you've done reviews of? I'd love to know what you think about Epiphone EJ-200CE
I love my National tricone.
Vinigar is the best runned with 4 ott steel.wool .
What model of mule is this particular guitar and how much is it?
How do you play those higher frets?? I mean the ones in the body of the guitar. Is it possible to play those frets or is it just for show?
Is it easier to handle that guitar in terms of humidity?
Oh yesssss

Review an Ibanez guitar next.
Tony, Please review Breedlove Premier Concert Rosewood, pleaseeeee🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I want one

what good is it if your not playing slide on it....... with all due respect
Can’t get the tabs
Wow!
Do you know the price Tony?
$2300
What Strings is on this guitar??
has anyone ever called you polecaster
Wow Rory Gallagher had a similar one
It's a nice sounding guitar.. not aggressively "resonator" to my ears. Shoot me, I know. 😖
Brothers in arms album guitar?
The guitar on the DS cover is a late '30s 14 fret National Style O.
Want.
Half way through and youv not played a not
Soooo... 04:52
If you are having any trouble getting the tab please email info@tonypolecastro.com and we will be sure to help you out :-)
No, I was just waiting for you to play the damn thing :)
LOL gotcha :-)
Very nice and clean picking though, my man. And the Mule sounds amazing!
Well , Tony , I've watched some of your stuff , pretty good by and large . One gripe tho' , nothing gets a look-in unless it's 2 grand or more . Time to rename this "The guitar review channel for millionaires and bank-robbers " Cheers to all , Nige .
when she says she loves metal music:
You have to wait 5 minutes in to hear the guitar then you don't even plug it in to hear it's electric side? C'mon man! We gotta hear that thing plugged in!
To exp,get a natl

Fucking WOW.
You look like guitar Jesus
Mate... JUST PLAY THE FUCKIN THING!!!!
you have to earn patina. like merit badges. you can't just buy them and suddenly be an eagle scout.
Leif Linder yes I agree but have you seen the prices, they cost like two grand or something if I'm correct, I better get patina, hell I better get an original 20s resonator for that, lol
Leif Linder
Toss it outside for a couple weeks...
Nonsense, people can do what they want.
Less talking and more playing next time please
Guitars are an over priced Rip off.
You talk way too much! We want to hear the guitar, not you dude!
Princeman Nah, we guitar junkies like to hear about the specs too.
That sounded like crap. Yes, I'm aware it is a reso and you have to stick with the songs all reviews here are played in. as such, they didn't benefit this guitar. Still sounded like garbage.
Trent Mason
i thought they were all tri cone?
