As someone who has been a fan of Wes Ball for a long time but is only just seeing this after dropping out of film school due to a disability and financial problems, this is INCREDIBLY inspiring. I've been struggling with wondering if I'll ever be able to go into film or make my own films, but hearing from my favorite director that its OKAY to fail just like... turns my doomsday perspective on its head. Thank you for posting this.
I made a video you can search for it but it’s called 20 years of failure or something like that. Might be worth checking out. I was excited to give this talk because we all think everyone else had it easy and that first job was easy. But there’s constant failure and rejection until there isn’t. Just we never get to see that from other people so we think it’s just us that is going through it. It’s definitely ok to fail, it’s part of the process. But sticking with it is everything. Thank you for sharing, actually planning to reach out to Wes about doing another episode now apes is out!
Hi Allan, thanks for posting this. I can't wait to see his vision come alive for Zelda. Kingdom look great and a fantasy movie like Zelda seem to be the logical next step for Wes. I hope he will stay with Weta for it and build Hyrule with them. A good blending of Mo Cap, CGI and real location should be the good recipe for this project. I hope he will make it immersive, wonderful, big and emotional. A project like this could really be what the fantasy genre need on the big screen right now.
