Tarantino is such an anomaly of a film maker. On one hand, he fully admits from "stealing" from other movies and putting them into his own work. On the other hand, he has such a distinctive style that's instantly recognizable whenever you see it on the screen. I think that's the appeal of his movies. They're that perfect balance. They're just familiar enough to make you comfortable in your seat but just different and strange enough to challenge you and provoke thought in you.
"Stealing" by taking what's familiar in other movies but giving his own, very distinctive, style and making it more personal to himself by being emotionally involved with his films directing. Including when he writes
Yep, his style is instantly recognisible. AND I like that he "steals" from other films, puts his twist on it, then includes it to make a fresh statement. His films hold a mirror up to society, for good or bad.
"Be your own audience" wow, that's just what I needed to hear. I'd like to get involved with some film, but when I think too hard about the idea, I question the outcome. Just can't be worried. True. But paintings is something different. Music comes a bit closer. But movies - they take a lot of time and a lot of money. Hence, you got to be very careful where to you set the balance between listening to your own vision of the movie and other peoples' objective opinions. Others opinions save you from a possible tragedy movie, but can also keep you off from making a masterpiece. So yeah, try to objectively understand where's the balance point.

Having worked in the film industry for years, its amazing just many people, including directors, CAN NOT explain their vision, or honestly really appear simply not to have one. Quentin realizing that being able to explain his vision being an easy process is what separates the good directors from the pretenders. If one KNOWS what they want to see, and can explain it, that person really knows they ought to be a director or writer, and that their dream, just isn't some hokey dream.

Really liking these. Ever consider doing one on Jim Henson? There's a pretty popular book called "Make Art Make Money" that distilled his success down to his laid back, humanitarian approach to his work and the gradual expansion of his brand. Really inspiring to people who want to live off of their own talents without having to compromise their own vision and creative sensibilities. Rather than trying to make the easy buck through phoned-in sponsorship, he treated commercial projects as a means of making something he enjoyed, the profit of which he would use to improve the quality of his productions and get closer to the ideas he came up with. Number 3. I ALWAYS write for me. Also number 9, especially with regard to finding joy in the process. There are times when I write from 10 PM until 4 or 5 AM, then sleep for a while. When I get up, I'm frequently surprised at at least some of what I've written, and that's how I know that the process, for me is working. Thank you.
Number 9 could be reworded as 'Find your meditation''. That time away from the project, putting it down and doing something totally unrelated like swimming, relaxing, playing guitar, whatever your jam, that is the golden time for ideas to simmer and new ideas to emerge. Process is one thing...but I think the bigger message here is find your own form of meditation, this important creative time-out. Thanks, Evan.
Damn... Waves on a beach! There are millions of constant waves on the beach, but when the big comes around you don't notice the rest of them. Good shit.
This was a GREAT compilation of some of his best advice. And I loved the bonus moment on Django. With Underground, the Roots reboot and more, I would say the conversation we started is still going strong today. I'll add a bonus for you from Quentin - "You can argue with success, but you'll be wrong."
Federico Fellini ounce said "i registi sono bugiardi nella realtà e sinceri nella finzione", that means "filmakers are liers in real life but sincere in fiction"
You can never knock him as he's got a brilliant mind but for me his films really went downhill fast after Fiction. Some love JB but it was too bland for me. The last couple also bored me and I'm a fan of him. Hateful Eight was way too long and self indulgent.
" If I didn't have an artist soul burning in me." LORD!!! That is freaking gold. That describes us all watching this video. I'm gonna write screenplays. Good luck to you guys.
That guy is my hero! I saw my first film by him yesterday (Django) and was inspired to make my own movies! T was cool to hear some tips from my favorite director nice video.
This was great!!...I loved the Bonus feature where Quentin talked about how his film caused conversation amongst people. Being an artist myself, creating change is a big desire of my heart :)...Thanks!!!

+Lauren Brown Very true, Lauren. :) Thanks for sharing with us, and thank you for watching! #BTA119 Luka

Damn... Waves on a beach! There are millions of constant waves on the beach, but when the big comes around you don't notice the rest of them. Good shit.

No doubt he loved Mad Max Fury Road.
+Onmysheet Thanks for watching. #BTA128 Luka
Not enough dialogue
This was a GREAT compilation of some of his best advice. And I loved the bonus moment on Django. With Underground, the Roots reboot and more, I would say the conversation we started is still going strong today. I'll add a bonus for you from Quentin - "You can argue with success, but you'll be wrong."
+laura cayouette Glad to hear that you liked it! :) Thank you for sharing with us, and thanks for watching. :) #BTA138 Luka

Tnx for the vid.

You can never knock him as he's got a brilliant mind but for me his films really went downhill fast after Fiction. Some love JB but it was too bland for me. The last couple also bored me and I'm a fan of him. Hateful Eight was way too long and self indulgent.
Thank you for sharing with us, Andrew. #BelieveNation #BTA401 Luka
Kins Kins He came out of the gate too strong. He will never top Pulp Fiction, neither will most directors for that matter..
Kins Kins I've actually become much more fond of Robert Rodriguez's films, which are never boring, and extremely rewatchable..
I wish I saw this sooner! Great breakdown and his advice for success is amazing!
Thanks for watching :) #BTA1431 Veljko

A lot of these hit home for me, especially 2, 3, 7 and 8. I really want people to keep pushing the genre's and sub genre's, film is not done evolving!
