    I own a 64' Riv and the last time I drove my Buick was in 02/1995 coming back from my father’s funeral. I was in the Navy at the time. My father said, "never get rid of this car...." he loved this car, drove it for a while while I was in the Navy. But he passed three days before my birthday and buried my father on my birthday. I had to somehow deal with doing something with the car. The next time I saw my car was in 2001 on our way to Japan for my next duty assignment. After return to the states in 2004, wife had convinced me that it would be a cool project. I agreed. I didn't actually get the car back in my possession until 2012. After spending over 100k (cash) bring her back to life, motor is rebuilt, trans rebuilt, purchase a (whole) parts car (Black 64 Rivi) that I personally paid for, purchased so many new and used parts for the frame off shop...I'm now told, after signing a contract to complete the car, the frame off restoration business says, that are needing an additional $47k dollars to complete the car and that is just an (the 3rd) estimate. I'm stuck and don't know what to do. But I love your videos, such an amazing story. It breaks my heart that all I wanted to do is to get my car back on the road and my father happy (R.I.P Dad) that I never got rid of the car. Here it is, 2023 and it's so far out of reach, I doubt I'll ever get to drive my and my dad’s favorite car ever again. Your videos inspire me and just love how you bring this all together. My car is the exact same color, however, has AC but none the less, it almost makes me feel like I was there with you and watching your videos are so dang awesome. Thank You so much for what you do to help rescuing such a beautiful car! Stay safe and keep making these, I never get tired of watching your rescues.

    My dad had one of those, same year same color. We lived in Kaiserslautern Germany, it was the fastest car on the autobahn. I'll always remember our first trip down to Switzerland right after the 600 mile service ... remember those. As soon as we crossed the border, I started hearing a wine from the rear of the car. Being only 10, my father ignored me. A tow back home, and a 4 month wait for a new diff, we got our "new" car back. Seems the guy at the motor pool (they were authorized) left the drain plug loose. 😀

The car sat in his garage since 1979.Has all options, dual Carter carbs, I have original Uniroyal redline tires, vinyl roof, I never had to recharge the A/C blows artic cold during the summer, 2 years to restore, got the car had 79,000 miles now has 85K miles. I'm also a original owner of a 1987 Buick Grand National 32K miles, T-Roofs, some bolts, with 1989 turbo T/A heads and intercooler, not afraid to run against the new Mustangs and Dodges, just a guy who loves hot Buicks!

      Redline tires were a fad that lasted a few years in the 1960s..very cool look for a performance car. Also cool on the 1966 Riviera were the interior door release handles for rear seat passengers. A cheaper base model of the 1966 Riviera had a plainer door card and shorter armrests.

    I'm the proud and pleased owner of a 1964 Riviera in considerably better shape than today's subject vehicle. Five-digit odometer shows 49,900. Although it could be 149,900, my mechanic and I examined the underside while the car was on a lift, and we both agreed that there was no way that car had 150K miles under its (fan) belt. And of course a 64 Riviera is one of the most beautiful cars built in the 1960s. My family had a 1964 Electra 225 with the 401 and it was a beast! One of my first engine rebuilds in the late 1970s. After a full restoration the vehicle was totaled in 2004 from Hurricane Charlie in South West Florida. So I watched this series in Envy. Yes, the '63-4 Riviera's were something special, to be sure. The coolest Rivieras ever made, in many people's opinion, myself included. Richard did a great job reviving this car. The only problem is that cars that have been sunk into the ground for years can sometimes end up with serious structural problems due to chassis rust caused by contact with wet dirt. (The condition of the gas tank gives you an idea of what can happen.) Check that out before proceeding with an expensive restoration. Regardless, much good progress has been made! Congratulations.

    The legendary Harley Earl retired from General Motors in 1958. The popularity of the four passenger 1958 Thunderbird shook GM's management. Cadillac's general manager at that time passed on a smaller personal luxury car (eventually reversed that decision for the 1967 Eldorado). However, Buick's general manager showed interest partly because sales of big Buicks were weak in the early 1960s. Thus, the also legendary Bill Mitchell was tasked to conceptualize a Thunderbird competitor. Mitchell told his designers he wanted "a cross between a Ferrari and a Rolls Royce".

    Brings back memories of using my Heathkit Auto Analyzer to do the dwell and rpms. Wonder when you'll pull out the Sears timing light.

      @@whattherust do you also own a Snap on spring tip screw holder for using inside the distributor? I still have mine plus most of the rest of my Snap on tools from auto trade school 1966.

    I saw the first video where you started the engine and got the car moving. If the owner had started it twice per year and moved it each time..... You would not have been there to work on it. It would be great to see it restored and running down a road.

    It would be worth cleaning and painting down the rails. Can't tell it's ever had a dent. Buick was just a better vehicle, with class.

    I want to know if the frame is rusted to shit beyond what we can see. Some of that car is very good condition...

    • @whattherust
      @whattherust  2 роки тому

      Frame is good. The outriggers are solid, even the trunk floor is good, which is mystifying given the condition of the top of the gas tank. The driver side floor is pretty bad though.
