To be fair, the entirety of "Deep in the Willow" is a breakdown
Add "everything is quiet now." Both songs are one giant breakdown

So glad The Poetic Edda made #3! Haven’t seen many other people/lists mention the song much but god is it INSANE
To be fair I was the first person to expose people to that insane track on UA-cam and TikTok so expect it on a few more of my lists 😉

The “I am enough” breakdown from Immolation of Night by Invent is one of my favorites of the year

Deep in the willow and everything is quiet now should both be #1 haha. Not only are both songs meant to be listened to back to back, but both breakdowns are absolutely perfect, especially in the context of the rest of the song. Knocked loose killed it this year 🤘🏻

When talking about Spiritbox being nominated for a Grammy, in terms of metal bands being nominated, people seem to forget that August Burns Red was nominated for the song Identity, and for Invisible Enemy.

I appreciate that we aren’t just saying “X is breakdown of the year because animal noises”. A breakdown that fits the song and the feel of the song is huge.
Forgotten from The Plot in You is my breakdown of the year. That buildup was god tier. Super happy it was in your top 10.
I actually prefer everything is quiet now breakdown personally but still a good one!
I'm surprised no one for Hellions- Fit for an Autopsy on their list one of my top 5 breakdowns this year for sure! But great list can't wait for next years!

Thx for including Currents Living In Tragedy. From the first chorus end up to 2nd/last one, it was one of the craziest moment in a song I heard this year.

If it was most disgusting or filthiest breakdowns Larcenia Roe would have been in Top 3 for sure. Personally I didn't go crazy over the over the top disgusting, shock factor breakdowns this year. But for others who want that, they're killing it.
The first breakdown in The Orphan Breed by Allt is EASILY my number 1, one of the few things i go back 30 seconds in a song to hear over and over again
Or, if it counts, Atena - Leave, but its not quite a breakdown as much as just a really cool buildup to the chorus.
The list is just valid asf, opinions might differ. Personally, I think The Poetic Edda was the best song of the year, not even mentioning the breakdown was pure insanity, glad to see them in the top 3
I'd say the dubstep mid-song breakdown of venom by jiluka is the best
There is light From Immortal disfigurement humiliates everyone in the video
3:39 Humanity's Laste Breath had the best guitar tone to me.
Personaly I prefer Larcenia Roe' Alienation, just so over the top and heavy, but all of these are sick.

Solid list dude! My personal favorite is Spiritbox, 100% raw energy and the build up!! But wont argue with your list, 2023 was a GREAT year!

My personal take would be to remove watch the world burn for on the verge - thrown, and remove plan z for Sea of Fire - The Wise Man's Fear
On the verge is a sick song. I agree it should've been on the list
Awesome bunch of breakdowns that were intense but also different from each other. For me personally I would add the breakdowns from the album Arrival by atmospheric black metal band Mesarthim to a best breakdowns of 2023 list.
It is so hard to choose, but some that come to mind that aren't mentioned are Death Awaits by Resolve and False Divinity by Texas in July. They both hit the spot for me and I like the two-parter.

Deep in the willow is my favorite song of the year and glad to see it number 1, I will add seeing red by Architects as one that wasn’t mentioned on the list, love the song breakdown and the attitude in that song and think it’s super good
Dissipate is an absolute banger, glad it gets the respect it deserves
That breakdown from Everything is fine by periphery was absolutely massive
I was watching up until the top 5 , then was thinking that you may not have included the knocked loose in this list , glad you did and glad it was a winner . Well deserved
It speaks to the quality of the releases that I knew Superbloom and Heavener would be included but I had different songs in mind.

The lyric callbacks to Everything Was Sound, the “Plant the tree of life inside the heart of the machine” callout, the unique alien ass guitar tone, and the fact it DOESN’T predictably lead back to the chorus (my breakdown pet peeve). Chef’s kiss
Immolation of Night - Invent Animate
That guitar tone is so gnarly I can never just listen to this breakdown once. I don’t have analysis for this one, I’m just a Silent Planet simp
I do think Palefacee Swiss and Left to Suffer were under rated however HUGE love and HUGE props to Knocked Loose, honestly an incredible band 🤘🏻🫶

crazy unpopular opinion, but I think Immortal Disfigurement - There is no Light is by far one of the dumbest just overall songs i've heard. i dunno why, but it just goes incredibly hard to me, just like King.

This was a top tier list, but I think I would've included Architects -Seeing Red as a honorable mention for the disrespect and surprised that Make Them Suffer - Ghost Of Me didn't crack the 30.

I know a lot of poeple don't like their new stuff, but Asking Alexandria - Bad Blood took me by surprise. Listening to it for the first time it felt like the perfect song to mix some heavy vocals into, and I spent the entire song just waiting for it. When those sudden lows cut off Ben's singing, it was a blast of dopamine.
The speech taking so much longer than the breakdowns gets me in every position of the list

Almost every breakdown is pedestrian in comparison to every breakdown in the latest END album. Gaping wounds of earth annihilates every song on this list by a mile.
