Love Carcassonne, Lanterns gave me too much AP, did not like this. It seems as though the premise of Cacao can be summed up with 'having a turn is bad'
Great review Zee. My family is enjoying this one quite a bit. One small correction: Set up calls for the game to begin with a one cacao tile and a two coin market tile, not the two random ones you show in the video.
I've added this into my list of games i'm interested in right after the Origins preview. I like Carcassonne, so this one appeals to me and it is really visually appealing and light paced.
One thing I find important when I try yo sell the game is the fact that you start at a minus amount of points and that you can ''Go up the river'' to boost your endgame scoring.
So during the gameplay example, your last move was placing red at top middle and causing the cacao field to be drawn and placed to the red players right. Would that placement of the red player also cause another jungle tile to come to their left? So do you draw jungle tiles for every instance that two players tiles "intersect" or just one and they get to choose which spot to play?
I am thinking about buying this one, so i revisited this review. However just before that i was watching Jasons Kraftwagen review where he calls it a light, light/medium weight game and you call Cacao a light/meidum weight game. :D Kinda funny to see how different the light/medium/heavy terms can be from person to person. For my taste I am much closer to your taste Zee. :D Kraftwagen seem to me pretty heavy, whereas this seems on the lighter side :)

You made a mistake about the Jungle tiles. There are supposed to be 2 revealed and you pick one, not a draw from the top.
I wonder how well this game plays with just two players?

And I was expecting the dice tower cares about game rules, that way it seems not doing justice to anyone ;-(
