Makes total sense that I’ve had queens blow up boxes 2 years (average) and longer. They lay insane amounts of eggs 2 months of the year, and will throttle back to nothing whenever prudent. Suits our area, and my style. But you’re 100% correct, it’s not apples to apples. If I was in warmer climes, and pushed them harder, I’d be replacing queens more often. Thanks for that, as it’s the 1st sensible explanation I’ve heard. 👍😎
It was nice visiting your place and picking up my first two nucs this weekend! They were loaded with bees and brood! Very good nucs Bob, Thank you! ( I am the guy in the silver truck in the video) lol
My best hive by far last year was a swarm from 2022 . She was a laying beast . This spring she became a drone layer at the time she was needed the most . I put a newspaper and excluder and another smaller hive on top and they combined and now are full of brood Ill miss her .I hope her daughters that are queens in some of my hives are like her . Our trees are just starting to bloom ✨️.

Nuthing like the trial by fire of a newbee driving home 4 hours, from Bee Pickup Day in Ohio, with a tipped over nuc in the back seat, and a car full of flyers, covering the windows all the way home. Air conditioning on full blast. I didnt know my Wife yet, thank G-d.

Just found a yellow dot in my op, not sure how she was missed as I run fresh queens every year for the Almond run. She is running slower than the rest of my hives. Her hive will help us make more splits. Love the double screen boards we had made and use them exclusively in Southern OR spring splits. Thank you for sharing your info Bob, I've learned much!
My wife did a presentation to her science class last week. The queen in the observation hive was a yellow dot queen. There was a supercedure cell in the hive, so I figured one last round for her. The queen is still laying in a small nuc box. A bit testy in temperament that's for sure.
Dandelion on like donkey cong with autumn olive coming fast 76 yesterday in Michigan things are month early... Can't say I've ever had queen fail that I got mated here in the north... I think our over all mating weather perfect really they must get well mated on those mating flights.. plus there's probably more drones in the air up here and we're on flow pretty much may thru September.. will normally have dearth for week in Aug ... unless it rains like last summer just way to much record setting rain not good for honey... I don't know everyone that replaces queens because of age we normally like them old for grafting... You work those queens to death we don't have long season for making nucs like you do... Started using double screen boards more and more definitely great tool
Had a friend picking up queens. I had to make certain no workers were on the queen cages. She kept getting upset as the workers kept jumping back 9n the cages. I pull a queen while they stand there or a few minutes before they arrive. My queens smell real good to any workers flying in the yard. Lol
Hello Bob. If I have a bee inside the vehicle. I crack the window a little bit and for some reason. The bee will land somewhere and calm down while it’s moving. I see few tulip poplar trees blooming. Keep your fingers crossed for a good honey crop
Appreciate the videos, one thing that I noticed this year is how much the bees will make a place for drone comb if you don't give it to them. I also run 10 frames in my brood boxes, seem more uniform, but a guy gave me some hives and he ran 9 and the bees cross combed it with drone comb, just really makes the frames look bad to me.
@@bobbinnie9872 only time I ever do is when I've had frames drawn out to fat on the honey band that it was a mess getting them in and out, usually I'll take a knife and trim it back.
Requeening makes sense for a commercial beekeeper. It's not worth the time to review. I have a few yellow queens and two are gangbusters still but 3 are weaker. I am leaving all 5 because I don't have anything to lose but it will be interesting to track how they do. I'd like to see a scientific study of queen senescence over time. Great video!
My bees built some real bright yellow comb last year. Almost neon colored, im in western piedmont in NC. What would the source be for the yellow comb. Ive never seen any this color before or since.

Bob, do you take deposits for these orders or do you just have people pay at pickup? I didn't do deposits myself this year and I'm selling 50 nucs and I'm not sure how I want to do it in the future. Sometimes I think it's simpler just to have people pay at pickup.
We've learned to take non refundable deposits so we don't get left holding the bag if people don't show up. They take it more seriously with a deposit.

April has not been good for making queens freezing temps and rain 🤬after Tuesday’s rain it’s forecasted that we will break a 150 yr old record of 7” of rain for the month of April
Just wondering when bee keepers are going to start spreading the truth about honey bees. Like how they’re invasive and one of the worst pollinators. The importance put on them is due to the honey and wax we get from them. Love honey bees just sick of the lies behind them
Go sit your ars down nxt to a good hive of bees and tell us all you work harder sun up to sun down 7 days a week no brakes no days off no Hollidays . Nothing can out work bees period

Thank you Bob. Q: Do you do any spring mite treatments with your NUCs before selling? Or is splitting sufficient?
We treated all of our colonies in winter when they were broodless and being a split does help so we don't treat the nucs.

American holly makes great honey. The wild cherry trees in our area make the honey you are referring to.
