      Sarah getting blindsided as the swing vote was great Survivor. What a great move by the opposing alliance. They identified Kass as a potential flip, and didn't even try to get her to vote their way. They told her "who do you want out, we'll vote with you". Kass picked Sarah, who felt fully comfortable as the swing vote, and boom. Great blindside.

    The edit framing Rob going after Matt the first time as a logical, smart play because daring to shake hands with the other tribe was some sort of unforgiveable sin is one of those keystone moments that you can point to if anyone ever wants to pretend that Probst isn't in love with Rob and making sure that he's only shown in a positive light.

    • @handsoaphandsoap
      @handsoaphandsoap Рік тому +50

      I mean yeah but to give him some credit, weaponizing mob mentality is Rob’s whole thing so by taking out Matt there specifically due to an openness to even mildly fraternize with the other tribe, it sends a clearcut message to the rest of his alliance.

    • @JRiff93
      @JRiff93 Рік тому +30

      It WAS a logical, smart play by Rob to remove Matt from his tribe. Unsure why you would think otherwise. By removing Matt, he was eliminating the most strategically threatening pair (Matt & Andrea) left on his tribe. He didn't allow their alliance to develop to the point where they tried to recruit other Ometepe members to flip on Rob (which would have eventually happened without a doubt)

      It reminds me of watching Whodunnit and being VERY pissed that the heel of the series carried it all the way to the end. Especially because the reality show IS scripted and I don’t care who says otherwise-maybe not line by line, but deciding who gets taken out at the end of each episode was seemingly random and not based on merit.
      Dana being in the bottom two twice in a row and not being “killed off” was confusing to me until the very next episode it turned out her background was extremely relevant to the solving of the case and so she had a shining moment to be super impressive (and she was!), which made it abundantly clear that’s the reason they kept her, to ‘redeem’ her in a way.
      Reality show hosts & execs definitely pick favorites and save players that deserve to have been gone ages ago. The way the show tried to gaslight the viewers into thinking the finale’s protagonist wasn’t a heel (he played victim to an absurd extent, ew) truly disgusted me. Everyone questions why they didn’t get a second season and the huge production costs definitely played a part, but wow. Way to have a completely unsatisfying ending: the worst person ever winning and acting like it was hard fought through bullying and adversity? Gee I wonder why audiences were infuriated.

    Leann’s move is easily the worst on this list imo, I mean Matt Elrod’s is easily the dumbest but Leann could’ve easily just said nothing and she might’ve potentially won the game. You don’t tell your allies that they are not as valuable to you as they think, especially not if you’re attempting a blindside on a different ally and absolutely need their vote to pull it off.

    12:30 Rob ousting Matt because he "shook hands with the opposition" is a good read of the room, not a personal black mark. When you're able to make a group of people incensed to hate the mere concept of the other team getting a foothold, you can control their actions by sowing paranoia that your own team could lose their advantage by having a rat. The brilliance is that Rob managed to do so while removing any suspicion that he was doing so to maintain control, which David points out later - and STILL the original Ometepe are so enamoured by Rob's leadership that they hear David's claims as nothing but Zapatera propaganda.

    An underrated game-destroying move was Kenny’s in Gabon at the final 7. That move destroyed both Crystal’s and his games. They either should’ve just pinned both their votes on Matty to ensure he left or they should’ve had the insurance of both voting Corrine out in case she didn’t actually have the idol (which was the case). The way Kenny and Crystal split their votes just made no sense for that tribal and damaged their trust with literally everyone left.

  • @XanderMatthews-nv9zf
    @XanderMatthews-nv9zf Рік тому +29

    One game destruction I remember even if it’s obscure happens in season 26
    so the fans tribe loses immunity and the 6 person alliance that formed (Laura, Sherri, Michal, Matt, Shamar, and Julia) agree to split the vote between Hope and Eddie the other showmance on the tribe after Ally and Reynold were broken up.
    So Shamar (a player in the 6) wants to save Hope but doesn’t want to lose the trust of his alliance so he tells Hope to vote for Eddie to save herself.
    Hope proceeds to try to throw Shamar under the bus the to Laura to try to convince the majority to take him out to save her own 3 person alliance. Which leads to the vote split happening which ends up tied 3-3-3 between Shamar, Eddie, and Hope leading to Hope being eliminated on the revote.
    Hope was given a lifeline and tried to murder the lifeline. Sometimes thinking down the line just isn’t an option, she fell on the sword for Eddie.
    Crazy thing is if she voted out Eddie the season is irreparably changed: the 3 amigos never forms, Michael wouldn’t be taken out as the majority would have the numbers, Corinne wouldn’t try to flip on Sherri as the numbers wouldn’t be there.
    Course Hope likely goes out in the episode Laura gets eliminated so not much changes for her game as she’s not needed for challenge strength like Eddie was, but still.

    So I want to talk about the HvV merge. Rupert feels off on Russell and fears Parv has an idol. Imagine if he pulled a Boston Rob and voted out Russell (the apparent swing vote). In the event Russell is lying to you, Parv won’t play her idol on him and it’s a 5-5 tie. In the event he is truthful (which is never the case but they don’t know that yet), it ends up as a 5-4-1 and the Hero’s gain the numbers!
    The Matt Elrod vote happened 2 seasons later so there was no learning from it, however you can go back to Rob C when he turned on Christy as a swing vote to squander their position. I’d love to see a similar style vote in the new era if we ever get the chance to see the death of earn the merge…

      Chanelle risking her vote when they only have one number up on Hai and Lydia is incredibly dumb, and ultimately follows her to her early exit.
      Daniel on the other hand, upon hearing this tries to divide Hai and Lydia’s votes which immediately raises red flags and screwed his trust with both duos
      Personally I think they’d have been better off just ousting Mike, they did not have the numbers to reliably take out Lydia and was a very unnecessary risk that early, plus the idol would be re-hidden with Jenny as a reliable next boot.
