Have you ever bleached your hair before? Share your experience with us here!
Nope but I guess quarantine is gonna make me do it!
Nope... Don't wanna but it's good to watch😀
I haven't done anythinging to my hair besides cut it
I have never and I don't think i ever will.
NO BUT IT WANT TO SO BAD BUT MY STUPID SCHOOL DOESN'T ALLOW US TO HAVE COLOURED HAIR UNLESS IT'S A NATURAL COLOUR!! 🥺😤😭😔
I was more impressed with the bleaching results than the actual colour in the end.
Same! the bleached hair looked amazing but the grey came out so dark and patchy
I said the same thing
As a hairstylist, I would’ve toned it twice to make it less patchy but honestly that’s just a personal preference. first to neutralize the yellow and again to fully deposit that blue gray tone. Personally I would’ve loved a lighter gray on her ends but maybe that’s not what the girl was going for 🤷🏻♀️
@@sarahs4244 well I assume the color would get lighter
I imagine the platinum blonde should of gone big
Kinda disappointing to see how dark she toned the hair as she really lifted the colour so much
Hsu-Hung, Timothy Huang yeah same! She lifted the hair to like a level 9 but dropped it so much...
@@lbishop6789 in order to achieve a color like that you have to remove as much pigment as possible (lifting as light as possible) or you'll be battling against a lot of warmth that will be extremely difficult to not only neutralize, but then cool down.
I agree , could of been better. She wanted grey not green. And purple 👀
Grey tones need a super white base
me too
Wait why go through all that for patchy greyyyy
Ik it's patchy!!!
cause it's cool but also yeah
The yellow stage was better
Because she wanted it ? Idk
the way her hair looked better before
The process was so, so beautiful. I was stunned by how evenly her hair reached a blond tone, but unfortunately the end result was really disappointing. Wish she kept it blonde
@@rain-yo2mx and thats where ure wrong
Loved the explanation. I thought that the end result looked all patchy and I don't think the colour suits her.
I agree her natural color was so perfect maybe adding light to that one was a better idea
Her toner or that gloss she put over was way too dark she could of just used purple shampoo and even let it sit for 5-10 mins since it was so light kind of sad that’s how it turned out too😕
She looks like an old lady
Every time someone from refinery gets their hair done it turns out disappointing or ugly (if there are time when it turned out good idr).
She should cut the hair , is to long!
I don't understand the point of bleaching her hair just to end up with another dark color. If I'm going to do that kind of damage to my hair, it's going to be for a much lighter hair color.
Her hair is lifted underneath. I think she just left the gloss on for too long, but as time passes by her blonde hair underneath the color will start to show. I would like to see an update after a few washes.
There is only a certain level of lightening that can be achieved in a single visit that will allow the hair to be healthy. It will take a few visits to achieve a light grey.
Same I expected a light balayage or something!!!
You can’t get that kind of tone with orange hair which is why it needed to lift pass orange to pale yellow.
PuPae S. Exactly!!!!!
I love how she really explained the logic and science behind the bleaching and toning process!
I’m sorry but this is not flattering. It’s purple, green and grey at the same time. It looks like an amateur did it.
ikr, plus it's patchy, i really want brad mondo to react to this
And it looks like gray hair of old woman now.
I agree. She bleached it really well, but that color job did not look professional.
Yes!! That swamp green tone at the upper mid section and then a deep purple at the ends! The colorist just tried to do too much in a single session instead of gradually lifting over multiple sessions within a 3-6 month period.
Yeah
moral of the story: healthy hair + a professional = how to bleach without damage
"less damage", not without at all.
Beatrice Ladouce i should’ve said “minimal”
Moral of the story: take up basic knowledge of how to apply bleach and you don't need to waste money or time on a salon visit, literally anybody can bleach hair
I learned that the hardest myself. No amount of healthy hair can prepare you for 15 mins of tangling the toner into a dreadlock and then have to comb it out for an hr and half. I do my own now.
@@yvetterivers Bleaching the hair is going to give you a good amount of damage. Luckily she has really strong hair so it took it pretty well!
This was terrible. Her hair looks purple instead of grey
It has to or the tone will fade and turn yellow again, the purple tone fades within a few washes
It needed to be purple at first so it eliminates all yellow undertone so when it fades it become a good shade of silver/gray
It’ll wash out fast. She should have shampooed it out
it looks great
She is so cute and pretty, but this coloring aged her.The coloring is uneven, with weird shading of goo green and weird purple;and the hair looks weaker.A video here a year ago,a asian also girl Nicole;why got her dark hair bleached on ice blond and it turned out beautyful, healthy looking. And it was a real ice blond.
I agree her hair lolked thinner. This process like perming for black people is a recipe for baldness
This video should be titled “How to bleach hair and bring it back to the same natural hair color as before”
Thank you!
5:38, 5:40 Are you blind? It is definitely not the same color!
@@Maki-00 exactly wtf
@@Maki-00 not the same but the hair didn't need to bleach that much
@@NomNomGirl1 if she didn’t bleach it that much her hair would’ve been too orange. In order to make it that cool tone she needed to be bleached a lot
Why was this edited like a suspense /scary movie?
That's exactly what I thought
with a really dull ending
i know right
I feel like she would have looked so much better if she would have kept the blonde hair, but simply with a toner so that it took out the yellow tone. The gray was ok, but I liked how the blonde was looking on her😥
Hey! Just commented because you used 'would have' instead of 'would of' which made me so happy. 😂 I know my comment is weird but I don't understand why people nowadays use 'of' instead of 'would have' (correct grammar).
@@yuki109zel Haha aw thanks! P.s. that's not weird at all. I try to use correct grammar because that is a good way to show that I learned something back in school :P
@@yuki109zel your comment made me so happy! I thought I'm the only one who can't stand it when people use "would of" :D
So you extremely bleached her hair to do this DARK color?! What's the point of so much lightening!
So in a nutshell: go to a professional who knows what they are doing and don't just wing it at home
My friend went to a salon to get a lighter brow she came out with a brassy blond fried hair
I've never touched my hair but in the quarantine I make it curly then I did a highlight then I cut it my pour hair😂
@@sunnight8287 Eek, your poor friend! I hope she complained to the salon
But not this professional 👍
My trust issues wouldn't let me given that I've heard a lot of failed coloring jobs 😳
as a dark haired girl myself, who has worked with toner before, 1) end result is so, so beautiful and suits her, and 2) i promise you a few shampoos later the color will be lighter and even more gorgeous. This was beautiful work. But having a 100 percent virgin hair canvas helps. Bravo.
Is it just me, or is the background sound kinda grose? It's like squiggly worms 😖
Ik 😭
agree, it is quite disturbing
Me taking down notes so that I don't end up doing it wrong like my friends who bleached their hair at home during quarantine 😂
I did that now im blond lol
+aaryaask LOL!!
Brand mondo has leave the chat
Please I beg u to go to the salon I’ve bleached it so many times at home and my hair is so uneven and messed up
@@ellamellapee3169 oh okay I'll get it done professionally then! Thank you
I see the weird sound-fetishist mixer guy is back.
This made me bust out laughing
Haha, it's very artistic
😂😂😂😂
Lmao wut 😂
It's ASMR mate lol
This doesn’t look that good
yeah, i agree.
I agree. So blotchy
I think it looks terrible
The girl Nicole, asian too;got a real ice blond healthy looking hair. Not this weird mess.So it is possible.
Some parts look green
Is this actually what she was going for???? Looks like an oops diy. It's very uneven. She loved it.....so guess that's all that matters. I would have cried!!!
I’m so sorry but that was a really disappointing result in the color 😭 She did great on the bleach work 😞
I love the final result! Some comments say they are "disappointed" by how dark the end result was, but for hair that dark, the only choice you have to get a grey, beige, or any other cool tone is to bleach it out first.
This is beautiful. Looks so natural. Love the fact that no aluminium foil was used. Have often wondered if that was the only way to bleach white hair being black had no idea.
Sadly, at 2.44 she says she uses foil x
CreativiTéa Arts foils are used to trap in heat and separate sections, so I don’t see why you think it’s a problem to use foils?
@@ginakarsteie5497 oh no honey I know what foils are and what they do, I've had tin foil hats on me many times. I think Gloria was hopeful that no foil was used as it's bad for the environment and I was just informing her that sadly they were still used. Thank you for the reply, even though you missed the point xx
CreativiTéa Arts I mean aluminum is easily recycled but plastic like they used is not recyclable or easily decomposed
@@florabescansaluers I mean it's not... its hair foil which is different I believe. Also, it has bleach on it. You can only recycle clean foil and sadly most hairdressers don't scrub away the bleach from their foil before they recycle them... anyways I was just informing Gloria that they did use foils. I don't know why I am being got at. I can't speak for someone I don't know, I was just expressing my opinion. Maybe she thinks that foil is bad for your hair even though it's actually good as it helps keep the bleach warm while under the heat lamp and it processes faster meaning bleach is on your hair for a shorter time.
Anyways, have a good night x
The grey with curls looks so good on her!
+hazellee Agreed!
nah
Ion like how she said “Cleansing the melanin”.
Lmaoooo
Glad I wasn’t the only one lol
when she said “ i’m a colorist “ i was like um u coulda added the hair part but okay
Sounds weird but there literally is melanin in hair so it makes sense to say that
what she should have said is "I'm taking the pigmentation of the hair out"
What the heck is up with these added sound effects?! Were they supposed to be artistic or enjoyable? Because they were not, haha.
Right!! So disturbing
Chelsey Sullivan I loved them lmao
Literally! Hair coloring does not sound like that at ALL🤣
Ikr they sounded like gurgling stomach juices 🤢
It honestly looks super spotty. There's still blonde in some areas and then darker blue in other areas. Wouldn't say that they did a good job.
It is not the hair dressers fault if the color lifted to different tones, using the same saturation solution. I personally like the grey finish color on the model even if it was not perfect. I’m not sure why the glosser which is just a clear coating of shine toned the hair into various uneven tones of grey & patchy blond & blues amongst the new grey palette.
Not everything you do has to be "empowering".
👏👏👏👏👏
I know! 🙄 I’m getting tiered of the internet making everything empowering and positive.
Facts! Lol you cut or dye your hair and suddenly ur living your best life? Ok.
@@panda22518 I mean sometimes it can feel freeing lol
I cringe so hard at how often that word is used. It's really not that deep. 💀
Those sounds during the process was so satisfying lmaooo
Same
the hair lady was so sweet and knowledgeable but PLEASE fire whoever added those sound effects 😭
This video was so satisfying!!! All those close-up shots...AMAZING!! Thanks, Refinery29 for another gorgeous video with stunning edits :)
The top of her hair looks patchy. Probably shouldn't have put it on such yellow hair
I saw that too
Next video: "Going to Guy Tang for Color Correction"😌
Lmaoooo
He is equal parts brilliant technician and artist. I admire his work so much... he would do great on this hair.
Ah, man. Doesn’t look good. There’s a blond ish part on her right, doesn’t suit her complexion either.
I got up for a minute to receive a package while the hairdresser was applying what I thought was a toner, to come back to dark hair 😒😒 This bothers me after a bleaching process lol.
@@dorism.5478 Yeah I love how the hairdresser did her thing but then was disappointed that it went from dark to light to back to dark. I don't get it...
@@dinh5532 my friend was asking me what was the point of going light. I said, dude IDK. I've always been a brunette and if I ever go light, trust and believe, I'd stay light at least for a while 😄 But hey, like the saying goes: to each their own🙏🏼
@@dorism.5478 Totally gurl! If I got light, it would be drastic and not as subtle or subdued, what's the point if not? lol
@@dinh5532 for sure 😄
This hairdresser did such a good job!!!!!!!!♥

+sheelasingh So glad you enjoyed it!
@@refinery29 maybe react to the critiquing comments too? The hairdresser did a mediocre job honestly
"Like a cool grandma" girlll😂😂
Thought it was interesting that the colorist's hair had yellower roots and pink/violet ends and the client's finished result had a lot of bluer spots in it.
i think this is the best bleach job i've ever seen on refinery29
No. It's a no for me girl. This color does not flatter her beauty and personality. Something bolder instead.
This "stylist" clearly doesn't know what she's doing. The reveal was a dumpster fire 🔥
Lmfao good description!
I basically had this exact thing done to my hair in grade 9. I have dark brown hair and wanted light grey, ended up with a colour that you could have mistaken for my natural colour. In the end it turned green after a week... never again.
Thats the worst coloring i ever saw in my life
And I’ve bleached my hair at home
It's difficult to bleach very dark hair. When I saw the video I thought for sure she was going to have blonde hair, but I was surprised at the result. It' looks nice on her. As long as she's happy with her hair that all that matters. I like how the stylist explained the process she was really detailed.
It looks great. Definitely not what i expected
+teresiahwangari Thanks for watching with us!
There are always so many negative comments on these types of videos. I think her hair looks great! Colours show up differently on camera, and why do a light colour that's going to fade in a couple of weeks when you can go a bit darker and it'll fade into exactly what you wanted and last longer
YAY ANOTHER HAIR TRANSFORMATION!
She looks so good with that color!
Really patchy. Damaged her beautiful hair over a bad out result 😭
It would have been much better comparison if they showed us the how hair strands looks before and after bleaching under the mini microscope (the one on amazon)
That is some perfect bleaching
This is very interesting 🤩 we need Brad Mondo to react to this video 😂
watching the process was so satisfying
+kay So glad you thought so, too!
I enjoy these videos so much....kinda guilty pleasure of mine....keep such fun (and educational) videos comin'!!!!!♥
+sheelasingh Will do!
Love that you softly added some of the sound effects from the other show :) And omg she's so cute and the result is great!
A dermatologist advised to use water with lemon after dye to re-balance the ph of the hair
i'm obsessed with the sound effects on this video omfg
Really nice grey hair!!! It looks so good on her!
I had grey hair before and it damaged the heck out of my hair, hers looked healthy.
To anyone complaining how her hair looked "dark" afterwards, let it be known that there is more to hair than blonde. Bleaching is a process to help you to change color/ tone of your hair. It is not only to go lighter.
I would have preferred to see more of a transformation. They did all that work to go from one dark colour to another.
The bleaching process is so satisfying i love repeating it
Why is everyone complaining about the colour. It was so beautiful and she's so looking georgeous
The bleaching was beautifully done, however I was suprised when I saw the color outcome of the hair. I expected an ash blonde with hints of caramel, with a slight dark root for a natural look. Boy did this do a 360 lol
i really love it, the gradient effect from top to bottom is gorgeous. i do feel however that it was over processed, it didnt need to be that bright yellow, it will be hard to maintain as the colour starts to fade.
there was another stylist on refinery that dyed a hair from black to red, they only processed it a little and it was gorgeous colour, just the right amount of processing without causing severe damage
Really like how she used the foam things to separate the sections. Seems like it makes it easier to go back in and apply the bleach at the roots.
I can’t wait this ugly toner to wash out so She can tone it with something amazing
Omg 😹 this is me eveytime after bleaching it at a salon
I suppose it has to be established early on what a client means when they say they want gray hair. This can mean anything from a white platinum through all the shades of silver into a deep charcoal gray..., and even the charcoals can vary greatly from a blue base to a violet base to a green base and others, like a taupe-gray or greige. The reason the colorist had to go so light to go back dark again was to remove all of the warm tones so that it could be a completely neutral charcoal but unfortunately there is some distortion in the color with a warm streak at the top by the bangs and some bluing underneath. However it would be possible to achieve a deep charcoal gray without lifting to blonde but only going up two shades lighter and then adding back a lot of blue to blue-green in the gray. This would prevent warm tones from seeping in during the oxidation and fading process.
Why the weird ass sound effects lol 😂 She’s just bleaching her hair.
Holy crap. This woman is soo good at what she does.
The color is just awful on her complexion, I know that whole gray thing has been trendy but it's not for everyone. She would've looked better with a warmer tone. Also they lifted her hair color just to darken it again, I would've liked to see a lighter and brighter color. This color will probably look nicer once it fades.
Her client was happy and that’s what matters I will say that it wasn’t lifted enough for this tone. The silver gray tones require the hair to be lightened past the canary yellow stage otherwise it looks drab and uneven. Once the “gloss” aka toner starts to fade those yellow brassy tones will show through if you don’t lighten it enough which isn’t flattering.
Wouldn’t of needed a double process if the hairstylist had incubated each section with foil, locking the heat in the foil but keeping the bleach wet so it doesn’t dry out and stop lifting. Bleach will always lift if it’s still wet. Just a total waste of time, and so much damage to those freshly bleached cuticles.
Agreed, I only bleach and tone on short haircuts.
She Just bleached it once, a double proces is bleach and tone ??
She only bleached it once... that’s not a double process. The toner she used was Demi permanent deposit only and shouldn’t damage the hair at all, just seal the cuticle and make it shiny.
robert björnesjö Mid shafts and ends then the roots. That’s the double process
" A cool grandma" yes girl.. absolutely yes... Yaaassss
The upclose shots and the over exaggerated noises of her mixing the bleach made me very *uncomfortable* 😭😭
I am damm impressed with the video Grapher. I was soo amazed how well the video was taken.
Wow! Perfect technique
I think it looked really good, especially when compared to her old hair at 5:36 :)
I don’t why people say dark brown when it’s black
Her hair took that so well! I love it! 😍
the edited and everything made it feel like she was giving surgery
this was so soothing to watch
The title should be: "how to hold in your tears"
LITERALLY IM SCREAMING
I had gorgeous healthy long natural black mane. Stylist bleached it dirty blonde and after getting addicted to the color change and two years later. I finally decided to shave off all the dead hair and start fresh!!!!! My hair feels so baby new soft.
This may be the most pointless bleaching I have ever seen! Who bleaches their black hair to dye it almost black again? 🤦♀️
I love the sound of these bubbles
Watching this cuz last time nearly burned my hair off 😂
im so happy that the macro sounds came back
I love how informative this video is!
+doedarling1215 Thanks for appreciating the details!
For all the people complaining and confused, when you go grey/silver, your hair will sometimes be dark when it's first done and get lighter overtime, making the grey/silver last longer.
This freaking editing is killing me lol
My bug-bear (I even made a small rant video, lol) is when you go to a salon and they are rough when combing out bleached hair. It's delicate and it can snap! Especially on day of treatment.
I bleached my hair now its damaged

@@irenemorro497 thanks :))
the hair looks so good i need to get the details about this hair!!
When you dye your hair, it represents your personality or your mood.
I'm impressed how you got her blonde right from the first time, however, I didn't like the choice of color after. It seems like a waste of effort to go from dark to blonde to dark again, and it came out patchy at the end.
Hi earlyyy
+nanyonikapatolia Hey there!
she looks very happy which in the end is that matters. a happy client
Great technique, but you made this woman look about 15 years older. Why any woman would want to purposely make her hair gray when she’s not over 50 is beyond me.
It fits some.
if thats the colour the client asked for!
I don’t think she looks older, but I think the colour is horrible.
What a cool outcome, such a nice color
